Industrial Sewing Machine Table Retrofit and Complete Setup

  • I acquired a post bed machine, head only, so I needed to put it in a table. The machine's base is 7” by 20 3/8” and the Table that I have has an opening of 7” by 15 1/2”. In this project I enlarge the hole to fit the new machine.
    Additionally I add some wood to the two remaining corners to properly support the new machine. I make some custom rubber cushions, update the hinges, install a new servo motor, a different thread stand and a foot pedal for the presser foot lift.

    Thanks for the video. I just received my first post bed head yesterday, have a blank tabletop already, and legs for it on the way from a local seller. Now having seen this, my mission is clearly outlined!

    • @AlexanderDyer
      @AlexanderDyer  Год назад

      I like both methods, the pedal is dirt simple and so you can be up and running quick and reliable. Most knee lifters are either janky or require removal and proper install to work. The previous installer almost never seems to get it right.

    Re: Angle of the belt comment. It is the WRAP angle of the belt that determines its friction and effectiveness ... the verticality of the belt is irrelevant, all things (pulley sizes, belt length) being equal. Alexander is correct.

    if you have an old residential sewing machine motor put a small rubber wheel on it, wire it into a cheap ebay speed controller and use it to power your bobbin winder. its much funner to wind bobbins when 100 pounds of sewing machine isn't clanking away.

    Loved the video. All of it. I learned on a 'power' sewing machine. Watching you create a home for your machine is really nostalgic. Now, I'm getting my old Bernina 117K ready to use again after years of not using it. Your machine is unique, being a leather machine. Mine is pretty heavy duty and, will sew leather but my intent is regular sewing. Currently I have no cabinet or table so watched your vid for any help I can get. Thanks for posting.

    • @AlexanderDyer
      @AlexanderDyer  6 лет назад

      I am not 100% sure but I will bet that you can get any old fold down sewing machine cabinet and your machine would fit. Those cabinets from the 40's-70's were all the same style in how they hold a machine so I would encourage you to check into that. You can probably find one local on craigslist for cheap and you could try before you buy. Good Luck.

    Hi Nice videos, I have a 754 Consew, and I can't get it too use booth needles with out braking the thread. I bought reverse twist and that seem the work but the right needle must be out of time... spent lots of hours try to figer it out. I use it as a single needle now. when I bought the machine it had very low hours. it a great machine it just needs someone that knows how to fix it. you want to trade ?

    I like your videos. I just picked up my first industrial machines, a Singer 111W155 and a Singer 112G139. I have a question, I only have one motor and table and the 111W155 doesn't have any hinges. I am going to make the hole to (the table top only has a belt slot so I can router in what I need) fit the longer 112 machine and the 111 with the addition of a filler plate to compensate for it's shorter overall length. I would like to upgrade to the new style hinges like you used but I am unclear how they attach to the machine. Would you be able to provide any insight on this?
    When completed I'll be making seat covers for my vintage snowmobile and recovering my pontoon seats along with making a new cover.

    • @AlexanderDyer
      @AlexanderDyer  6 лет назад +1

      A simple round pin is held in the machine head by a set screw usually. Be sure and check your machines though, I have had some older machines that had a different style where the hinges were screwed to the base of the machine with a couple of screws and so would be more difficult to convert.

    • @brianbarnum48414
      @brianbarnum48414 6 лет назад

      Thanks for the advice. As luck would have it each machine is different. I think I can fab a bracket to the 112G139 (old screwed in place brackets) and weld the new style hinges to the bracket. This would allow me to space my hinges the same on both machines since they aren't even close. Do the hinges help hold the machine to the table to prevent it form rising up when the knee lift is used? One more thing, as I am an amateur sewer I'm thinking about upgrading to a servo motor. Do you have any that you prefer over others? The Consew servo with the dial control is about $100, a Sailrite is about $200. I'm assuming they are all made in China? Thanks again for the great videos.

    • @AlexanderDyer
      @AlexanderDyer  6 лет назад +1

      The hinges only engage the table when the machine is rocked back. The machine head sets on four cushions at each corner when upright. I show a couple of servo motors I like in this video and there are links in the description. ruclips.net/video/lavkvsU5ltk/видео.html

    Feels like people are missing the point of the video (or perhaps _I_ am missing it)... I took this to be almost an artistic video; it's not necessarily meant as a how-to, so much as how your brain works. People asking logistics questions or commenting upon the music, etc., seem to be missing the point. Again, I could be the one in the wrong here.
