    My wife has a 40 year old Singer that needs some adjustment. I now have a guide I can watch again as I examine the workings of her machine and decide if it is in time or not. Will also watch your other videos. Thanks so much. As a child my dad took me along when he took a television set to the TV repairman. The shop has a big sign inside that said, "Do it yourself. When I get it, I want it messed up good." I live by those instructions.

    Hi Sir`I am very impressed with the way you do these video`s,you show it in a way that it comes across a lot easier than I have seen other people try to explain and I still never understood most of what they were explaining,I love the way every thing is done slowly for the viewer to take in and the camera work is excellent so big thumps up to both of you`unless you have a third arm we don`t know about LOL.all I can say is BRILLIANT keep them vids going you are helping us out loads and I for one appreciate all the help you give for free,For us who cannot efford to get our machines functioning properly by a repair person`you give us hope to sort out several problems with our Machines,
    Thank you
    ps That bar you bang in`To take it out would you knock it all the way through untill it comes out of the bottom,

      +Cechaflo Wow I would never of guest`I have watch a hundreds of vids for months and I me telling you now,you teach very well and you seem a natural in what you do,from a viewers point of view we can be the biggest critics`I know there is so much more to learn about sewing machines especially these computer ones now`that`s where your son would be handy LOL.I am old school love the old stuff I don`t like to see it get forgotten,The old stuff was always over engineered well and quality steal and decent cast not like today,Any ways` the stuff you have shown your viewers is what we needed to know,There ain`t to much that goes wrong with machines if they are set correctly and cleaned and oiled regular`but We have to learn it first from some one because We don`t want to damage a machine because we did not follow the correct principles,And like I say I have my 132K6 AND 45K1 on my kitchen table that I can see to now because of what you had taught me on your vids I have a better understanding on timing and setting ect,you are a humble man you should take a little credit for what you have learnt thousands of people.
      Hope your son gets where he wants to go in his courier,And you would of been great as a teaching engineer with the sewing machines.;-)

    Thank you so much for the tutorial , and I'm not sure if I missed other parts of the tutorial or not cos I want to know what happens if the outer part of the rotating hook does not move as it is supposed to , and also I would like to know if had caused more damage to the machine while fixing the timing by tighten the screw found just behind or underneath the rotating hook , the one that seem to be holding the handwheel from underneath .

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  2 года назад +2

      If the (outer part) hook point is not close to the needle scarf it will not catch the thread properly and perhaps break/fray the thread apart. If too close it would be prone to breaking.
      The needle bar descends to a dead point, then starts an upwards movement. Just 3 mm upwards the thread loosens and forms a loop. This is the moment the needle point should be passing the needle scarf catching the upper thread for a round to form a lockstitch with the bobbin thread.
      If the hook point gets to the scarf before the mentioned 3 mm high of the needle bar it would be slow and would make skipped stitches.
      If the hook points gets to the scarf faster before reaching the 3 mm high of the needle bar then the loop is not well shaped and would also cause skipped stitches and probably tearing/fraying of upper thread.
      No problem with the fixed nuts of the shuttle nor the machine. It is hard steel. The problem could happen with the adjusting bolts. They could strip or their heads could suffer damage. Just replace them for new ones.

    U gave me in the last hint the magic key to solve my recurrent problem...Thanks a lot...U waaana know wich this one was???.....The loop created by the ascending movement..Now I know that i have to adjust the bar lower to the point it current is... I was trying to sew fabric not suitable for the machine iI´m using..So it´s kind of medium thick matrial (windsurfing sail). It wasd keeping on breaking lines ot missing stiches...very annoying...But now ill cooorect this..and hope it´s going to work..

    Hi Cechaflo, Superb videos for people wanting to get to know there machine better, i'm using a Frister + Rossmann FR6 - 7 - D industrial sewing machine, don't know if you've heard of one before, i have never came across one anywhere it works pretty much the same and is a pretty good machine when it is running properly but it can be a bit temperamental, i going to do the put in time procedure, in the video you say the needle bar must remain still so, clutch the motor. Can you tell me how you go about clutching the motor.

    • @junglemom1263
      @junglemom1263 6 лет назад

      I think that means that you loosen the wheel on the end, the one that you would loosen to wind the bobbin, so the bar doesn't move as you wind the bobbin. :-D

  • @TheLablover3
    @TheLablover3 2 года назад +1

    Hello Cechaflo, first of all, you are so talented! It’s also obvious that you have a lot of knowledge about the mechanisms of sewing machines! I have a questions I’m really hoping you can answer…I have a old singer 281-1 …I’m new to this machine and I’m wanting to work with some leather and also upholstery fabric, I’m doing a box cushion right now that has welting…. The thread keeps breaking at the thicker parts especially! It has been working real well up until now (there maybe is 6 layers of fabric ( which isn’t that thick). I have it threaded correctly and put a new needle in and still breaks? Could it be the timing? So frustrating

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  2 года назад +2

      Hello Heather, I understand the frustration. It has happened to me several times. Be patient and find the issue. Perhaps, the needle bar became disadjusted and went upwards a little bit due to an extra force over the material.
      The solution would be to take off the needle plate and presser foot to let a wide view on what is causing the issue.
      The needle bar goes down to a dead point and starts an ascending movement. At three mm approx. upwards the thread forms a loop and the hook point meets the middel of the needle scarf. If it does not meet the center of the scarf it means the needle bar needs to be lowered a little bit.
      The other problem would be the timing. It means the needle bar is ok but the shuttle for some extra force moved fast or slow and the hook point is not meeting the center of the needle scarf.
      ruclips.net/video/IJvh7yoNN4s/видео.html
      Perhaps the small screws are not tightening enough due to they are somehow ripped off or the heads for the screwdriver.
      I hope it helps.

    • @TheLablover3
      @TheLablover3 2 года назад +1

      It looks like I only have 2 adjusting screws for the shuttle… hoping I can just replace the bolts and not the whole assembly!

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  2 года назад +1

      @@TheLablover3 Yes, sometimes these little bolts are not well tightned and the shuttle slides a little. It is more than enough to cause the issue.

    • @TheLablover3
      @TheLablover3 2 года назад +1

      Another question, do you think this machine can handle all this or did I just buy the wrong machine? I’ve been told it is meant more for clothes? Not heavier work like this

    • @TheLablover3
      @TheLablover3 2 года назад +1

      Ok an update…. So I moved the needle down a bit more as I thought it was a bit high… the thread continued to break….I tried a bigger 20 needle, tried thinner thread… nothing, frustrated and just wanted to get this little project done I removed my welting foot and put on a zipper foot…. Voila… Thread stopped breaking, I’m not sure what the welting foot did to make the thread break but putting the zipper foot on worked????

    Good video! As far as I know Singer 241-12 can make 5.5 stitches per inch. This is the longest stitch. Is there any way to make it even a little longer? I wish this machine had reverse... Thank you!

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  3 года назад +2

      The maximum stitch length is 4 mm. An eccentric mechanism is responsible to make the stitch length. It would be necessary to make a new one mechanism to elongate the stitch length. But, this job would cost more than the machine itself.
      A trick I used in the past when I worked with these machines was to carefully pull the material while doing foamed pleats in order to get longer stitches. This could be done with a roller presser foot.

When zigzag stitch occasionally leaves on the left side of the stitch and sews a straight on. it happens more often the wider the seam is adjusted. I'll see if it's timing. thanks to your good explanation I should succeed. THANK YOU

    Hi, Cechiflo. I love all your videos and it has got me interested in having a go my self. My question is, do you need a certain kind of sewing machine? Is a standard sewing machine for doing dress making different than upholstery sewing machine?
    Thanks again for the video's, and keep them coming.

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  8 лет назад +1

      The machine I show in the video is used in dressmaking and shoemaking. But it can be used to do upholstery. I used to work with this kind of machine many years ago. In fact, the way of doing upholstery has changed and nowadays the ideal machine to do upholstery (cars and furniture) is an industrial, heavy duty, triple transportation(walking-feet) sewing machine...pfaff, juki, consew, adler, singer, etc. trade marks.

      Querido Cechaflo. Soy super fan de todos sus videos. Soy un aprendis tapicero. Quisiera especialisarme en hot-rods y classicos. Piel y vinyl. Note que usa una maquina de coser marca pfaff en todos sus videos. Y singer en algunos como este. Queria escuchar su opinion en una maquina de coser JUKI. Es una walking foot de tres barras. El precio que me la venden es 25 % mas barato que la pfaff. Me recomienda que la compre o que me espere a juntar mas dinero a comprar la pfaff. Su opinion sera tomada muy enserio ya que admiro todo y cada uno de sus videos.

    Domingo 08 de mayo del 2022. Buenos días, como están, le saluda su amigo Wilber Urbina Pajuelo desde Lima-Peru.Consulta: Tengo una máquina Singer 241-12.El problema es que al apretar el perno sin cabeza de la barra del prensa telas al parecer no logro precionarlo bien por más fuerza que le ponga con el desarmador plano y jira sobre su propio eje ( rotación) moviéndose el rodachin que fue puesto en reemplazo del prensa telas para poder coser calzado de cuero con el riesgo de romper la aguja y causar un accidente a la persona que está cosiendo,como puedo solucionar este problema??.En espera de respuesta.

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  2 года назад +1

      Estimado Wilber, Si entendí bien, me parece que se refiere a este tornillito que da ajuste a la barra para que no se mueva.
      ruclips.net/video/IJvh7yoNN4s/видео.html
      Es muy posible que el roscado donde agarra el tornillito esta desgastado y no da ajuste. Un solución sería cambiar la piezita o bien hacerle hilo nuevo y cambiar por un tornillito mas grueso. El que le sigue en medida al que tiene. Antes que todo revise el hilo del tornillito. Puede que su hilo esté gastado y ya no da ajuste, sino se da vuelta con todo. Hay que reemplazarlo por uno nuevo.

The sewing machine head has at its lower part a small turbine that while is in movement the oil is suctioned through thin plastic tubes that run inside the sewing machine head, lubricating the necessary parts. The lubrication is done automatically.
      In other sewing machines the lubrication is done manually like the Pfaff 1245 I show in this video:ruclips.net/video/g-64WWA_E8Q/видео.htmlsi=cKMo1OkDVIO0NekV&t=54
      The lubrication is done in oil drops in each marked in red holes.

Recently I adjusted the foot to sew the invisible zipper but some things went wrong so the automatic lifting up foot part doesn’t work anymore. I tried to find out the way to fix it online but I couldn’t find it. I would like you guys tell me how to adjust it, please.

    What does it mean to "clutch the motor"?

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  2 года назад +1

      To clutch a motor means to make the two plates(one with friction material to avoid touchin iron with iron) of the motor touch to start our the running of the sewing machine.
      When the sewing machine motor starts out running a plate with friction material rotates but the machine does not move until the other metal plate touches it. A lever make them join together while it is activated by pressing with the pedal with our foot.
      It can work as the clutch of a car if press it hard then it will run faster than if I press it gentle.
      Alexander Dyer, shows us in a video how a clutch motor works:
      ruclips.net/video/oQ0W90XfP6Y/видео.html
      A servo motor is the ideal motor to sew stitch by stitch. We can keep control of speed at our will. At any moment I will buy one of them for my current machines.

    Hola Cesar, espero y te encuentres bien!Espero y me puedas ayudar con mi problema: al momento de coser, en vez de la bobina( donde se coloca el hilo de abajo) quedarse fija, es decir, sin moverse, en mi caso se mueve, se mueve al mismo ritmo que el sistema de abajo el llamado "cangrejo" y solo me enreda el hilo, espero y me pueda ayudar y decirme cuales podrian ser las causas, sin mas por el momento muchas gracias por su atencion, saludos!

      Estimado amigo, me encuentro bien, gracias.
      Estoy tratando de entender que podría estar pasando, pero no logro atinar. ¡Que marca de máquina es la que tiene? Si fuera posible unas fotos para tener una mejor idea, por favor.
      En el min 7:04 del video apreciamos que el 'portabobina' permanece en su lugar por la barrita que sostengo en el min. 7:10
      En el min 5:02 apreciamos 'la bobina' dentro de su portabobina o cangrejo. ¿Esta bobina es la que queda dando vuelta y por supuesto enredaría el hilo? ...de ser así, entonces la palanquita del centro de la 'bobina' tiene su resorte vencido y no da el ajuste para que permanezca en su lugar. Habría que reemplazar por una 'bobina nueva'...la palanquita que tiene un resorte, ya no tiene fuerza para mantenerlo pegado hacia el 'portabobina'.
      Hágame saber que pasó.

    Does this machine have an oil well? I'm unfamiliar, but the Singer we had growing up was a mechanical pedal, and as far as I know, dry under the deck. Just curious. Thanks!

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  8 лет назад

      Yes, it is a semi-industrial sewing machine. It has an 'oil well' and a 'small turbine' in its lower part which sucks and distributes the oil to lubricate many parts of the machine . This machine was designed to sew clothes at a high speed.
      Other machines should be lubricated by hand as the old black Singers, including my industrial Pfaff 1245.
      Thanks for watching the videos!

      Aveces es bien difícil destrabar el volante de la máquina con la fuerza normal de la mano. Para que se mueva la rueda hay que presionar un botón que está en la parte superior, con la mano izquierda, mientras uno intenta darle vuelta al volante.
      Cuando está demasiado duro, lo que hay que hacer es ponerle una pinza/alicate de presión para ayudar a hacer palanca y hacer movimientos hácia adelante y hácia atrás hasta que se destrabe.
      ruclips.net/video/4ah-sIpRGnA/видео.html
      El ácido muriático (sulfurico) es de mucha ayuda para quitar óxido, dejando las piezas remojar de un dia a otro. Después de este proceso hay que lavar las piezas con gasolina. Luego aceitar y engrasar.
      Encontré alguna información acerca de los engranes.

    Hi, how do I know if the presser on my sewing foot is correct?
    Greetings, Kathleen

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  8 лет назад

      +Kathleen Pruvoost Try to pull the material (fabric, leather, etc) backwards, and if it is easily released...it means, the 'presser foot' needs more pressure and it should be necessary to turn on a little more the 'upper tension regulator'...not too much, just enough to let the material adhered to the feed dog and moved backwards...if too much, it could leave marks or cause wrinkles on the material.

      No le queda otra solución que desarmar para ver que pasó. Es muy posible que la aguja golpeó al portabobinas y provocó un desajuste. Mientras no se haya torcido el eje central que es muy difícil solo es asunto de poner a tiempo. El hilo se atora también aveces y causa el ajuste. Hay que cambiar una nueva aguja.
