I play a little bit of Ness at times, and lemme say this: I agree. Ness usually gets the least juicy slander because everyone just goes "hurr durr pk fire spam bad", so seeing someone actually be creative when slandering the Earthbound protag is hella nice.

I had a buddy who nonironically "mained" random, but the thing was it wasnt just from a fun perspective he made it a point that he picked random because hes "too good" when he gets a chose. Then try his very hardest on any character he got like this was life or death going as far as to research anyone he didnt do good on. Took the fundemental idea of I just wanna play smash and genuinely nuked it to the max.
I sympathize with your buddy. I no-lifed Smash Bros and Rivals of Aether a few years ago and got what is, among my close friend group, unbeatable skill. In reality it's probably nowhere near tournament level, but I am the undisputed best of my friends, who are the only people i play Smash with, though I always love playing it with them. I find it unfun to win without challenge every round, and they also find it unfun to lose without hope every round; it's a lose-lose scenario. So i change up my characters every round to put myself at a handicap so we can all have fun. They've been getting better though, which is awesome to see. I think someday soon they'll be able to go toe-to-toe with me, and I'm excited for that. I know I'm sounding arrogant, but the point is that I understand your friend's position, at least somewhat.
I was so surprised when i first learned Samus' "spamus" reputation a few years ago: I've always been a samus main and I've always loved bringing her into close combat- not because she's good at it but her melee combos are so satisfying to pull off- chaining the uppercut blasts into a screw attack is probably the most satisfying combo in the game imo

Captain falcon is legit the most genuine character in smash. I don’t even main him but he feels so honest. Even his most bs moves feel super fair and satisfying to land. Plus he has the coolest character design

As a Dedede main with crippling self doubt, that "settle for something comfortably safe and much easier to fix when you fuck up" cuts pretty damn deep. I'ma give all your Dedede mains a treat. If you haven't seen it watch the Kirby: Right Back At Ya! show. Some of the voices in it are great and that definitely includes Dedede. The lines are over the top silly too frequently.

alright I'll play bad cop lmao Captain Falcon is hype but not as hype as Falcon upplayers say he is. Knee hasn't been an interesting move for 2 decades, and fishing for stomp knee 10 times in 30 seconds isn't an interesting play style. I main Wii Fit but yeah, I don't go online and prefer playing to have fun... She's really awesome, has inspired me to be more physically active, and is always a great first pick when playing with friends. I was thoroughly expecting to get roasted but ended up with tears of joy in my eyes.
I have a friend who plays Wii Fit and is actually top ranked at my college. Very nice guy, he paid for a hotel room when we were going to a tournament with other people from the college and wouldn't even let me pay for part of it, and during that trip I found out we went to the same tiny high school and I actually knew his younger brother. That is to say, if you main Wii Fit, I already have respect for you. As for the character themselves, I think they're underrated. They're fun, and while clunky I'd say they're solid if you know what you're doing. If Incineroar didn't exist in Smash, I'd probably try to main Wii Fit.

Maybe that's also why she's so popular in Heroes, she always places high in their official poll (CYL) and actually “won” (2nd place in females guarantees a special alt) this year's. Outside of them, MKleo the goat of smash LOVES Corrin and Fire Emblem Fates, I remember this because on one of the online tournaments he hosted during the pandemic, he used Corrin against I think a FT10 vs Spargo? Just to prove how much he loves them. And then I remember on twitter someone joked that that they would personally go and become the best and beat him just because they were so offended that he had that opinion lol

Blessed comment, I also think its fair to point out that what someone perceives as “cool” is completely subjective. To me when I first saw Corrin’s design and move-set I thought they were the coolest character I had ever seen. I was extremely depressed around the time their Smash reveal came out, I decided to pick up Fates and tbh I loved the game so much, it helped me out of my depression and nobody can take that away from me.

Tbh Kid Icarus Uprising is REALLY REALLY fun. The combat is highly customizable and a bit tricky to master, but the plot is fun, the voice acting is great (I still sing Pit's little song to myself all the time), and if a sequel was ever in the works I would buy it in a heartbeat.
Dude same, loved the games, begged my mom to get it for me and by god are they fun. I see where he comes from from some of the points but I still think Kid Icarus dissevered a spot in the game. however dark pit could fo been a skin and Plautana was an unneeded inclusion, happy it got more light on the game as a hole though.
Palutena is a really endearing character in KIU, Smash gave her exactly none of that other than a few canned voice lines. Her animation in Smash 4 and Ultimate is really good though, and at a competitive level she's good against the cringe zoners that no one likes.

I was pleasantly surprised by how uplifting his message about Incineroar's inclusion was, since I liked his moveset and he pretty much ended up as my main. What he said next put me in hospitalization.
Speaking of incineroar: When I was in middleschool, I found out that they chose incineroar over decidueye; I was in denial that decidueye wasn't in the game, and I went through every stage of grief because of it. I now realize (in retrospect) that I could've just picked up a copy of poken, and none of this would happen.
i played kirby in the brawl, and yep. you're right. kirby's up B, down B and hammer is what i love to do the most, because it feels the best when they are telegraphed so long but still get them to land.
It needed to be a Wii title, the way you have to move your hands is horribly uncomfortable and i cant really recommend other people play it because of that
I am a kingdom hearts fan. I started playing the games incredibly late into the franchise’s lifespan; around half a year before kingdom hearts 3 finally released. I got those 2 pre-3 collections of the games and played them all in chronological order of release. I had an incredibly fun time playing through all of the games and just taking in the experience for the first time. The amount of triumph I felt after completing 0.2 just one month before KH3’s release was one of the most gratifying feelings I’ve ever experienced in my gaming life. I felt legitimately prepared to jump on the kingdom hearts 3 hype train with all the other kingdom hearts fans. I became so invested in the series that I even tried out the mobile game and the 2 DS games, enjoying one of the 3 so much that I played it to completion 4 times on 4 separate cartridges. And I popped the hell off when I saw that the flaming object that Mario threw in the air was a keyblade. And as a kingdom hearts fan, I must say that every single one of your complaints with the series is entirely accurate.

As a pit/dark pit main i would like to say... That's about right. I love the great recovery, and the fairly decent damage, but the lack of kill power is an absolute pain. Pit has the one of the weakest spikes in the game. It can take 3-5 OFFSTAGE SPIKES to take single stock...
ok so im a ridley main and last night I had one of the most clear and realistic dreams I've ever had where the next SSB games demo dropped and had all the characters they are gonna bring back with no new ones, and ridley was in that roster. I strictly remember that in the one match I played ridley, he was ridiculously strong. Holding down up B causes him to glide after it, down air could be canceled at any point, neutral B was now a Rob-like laser beam, and his frame data was really good. After I woke up I could quickly deduce it was a dream, since nothing will ever go right for ridley mains

Kingdom Hearts is cringe and overly convoluted, and that's why we love it. Also it's objectively true that every KH OC is terribly written minus Riku, the sea salt trio, and MAYBE Sora. Aqua and her friends are PAINFULLY boring and cringe and the female OCs are all terribly written, especially Kairi. They're getting better with the writing though as shown with ReMind being peak and finally starting to redeem Kairi after 25 years of useless damsel-ness. Can't wait for the next arc.

As far as characters I am disappointed aren't in Smash, I think Shantae and Shovel Knight are my top two. Shovel Knight was something of an unexpected poster child for Nintendo in general for a while, in addition to being THE poster child for indie games. As for Shantae, she's a sleeper hit character with a lot of originality in her design, and her controls are jarringly similar to Smash Bros controls, but optimized for a platforming adventure instead of a combination fighting game/beat-em-up.

Don't take them too seriously, because while everything I say is objectively true, it's also an absolute joke since neither of them will ever go outside the "indie" sphere. Shantae: Have you ever heard the classic taunt "I can win with one hand tied behind my back"? Shantae players are a step above that, because they can win with one hand down their pants furiously beating off to a character and series that is best known for 99% of its female characters dressing like they came out of a porn parody of Disney's Aladdin and for its heroine getting stuffed in an even MORE stripperific outfit than normal for some random-ass reason in every other game, with its generic sometimes-a-Metroidvania-sometimes-not platforming gameplay and "Oh wow, we're so self aware" writing being shoved to the wayside. Oh right, this is a Smash video. Well, Shantae's available as a Mii Brawler costume and a Spirit, I guess. Set aside some time in your schedule of wanking to the half-naked half-genie heroine's 8,500+ entries on Sankaku Complex to master Mii Brawler, because that's all you're ever gonna get. The series started out on the Game Boy Color, so at least it was Nintendo-adjacent until it went multiplatform with a Kickstarter-funded step beyond DSiWare. All told, Shantae and her cult of creepy fetishists fit the Mii Brawler mold but with LOLTITS instead of LOLPETERGRIFFIN. Now do humanity a favor and wash your goddamned hands. Shovel Knight: I really have nothing bad to say against Shovel Knight. He has a solid moveset that can be used for both melee and ranged combat. He's relatively short but he wears a full set of armor, so he can be as heavy as gameplay balance necessitates. As far as I know, he doesn't have a cancerous fanbase or a bunch of memes around him. In fact, I can't say anything more about him. He's just...good. Shovel Knight is just unequivocally, unremarkably good. So if a surprise Nintendo Direct announced him for the next Smash, it'd get the usual amount of likes, a small yet undisclosed number of dislikes, and an overall reaction of "Huh, neat". And that's the reaction you get if you choose Shovel Knight. "Huh, neat". You inspire neither fear nor favor nor respect nor disdain, just ambivalent positivity. Yey. At least he has his own Smash-adjacent mode in his own game. Just play that rather than wishing upon a star for the Blue Burrower.

As someone who was really into Kingdom Hearts (I've kind of fallen off of it nowadays), every bit of criticism of the series that you laid out is absolutely right. I'd also add that they completely ignored the crossover potential of Final Fantasy and Disney properties by the second game, with a small handful of FF characters just appearing in the one or two levels that weren't just Disney movie locations.
Always thought it was really odd that it was billed as a FF crossover and then that was just abandoned heavily. and then they tried to bring in TWEWY in DDD? and THEN KH3 don't even mention these characters until DLC lol
Everything said about Mega Man is correct. The better you get at him, the more you understand that you just make things happen. And somehow, without knowing what you're doing, you stumble into victory and keep trucking on despite inconsistent performance. He is at his core consistent, but what other people can do with him isn't. Just like Capcom's own handling of him.
Yeah I mostly just jump'n'shoot while cycling through sub weapons until I see a chance for a meaty Hard Knuckle. It's fun treating other characters like robot masters while using the shield button as little as possible.
The fact that Sora is in Smash means that Mickey Mouse is also in Smash because his key has a Mickey head shape on it, which is absolutely hilarious and that alone makes him worthy of being in the game and no other reason. (And yes, the Miis are one of my most played characters right next to Steve from Minecraft, just in case you couldn't tell).
The hilarious thing about "Ah they didn't use the paintbrush for Bowser Jr. because his character slot represents all the Koopalings and them using the paintbrush doesn't make sense" is that all of them literally transform into Shadow Mario for the Final Smash.
They could've also *only* had Bowser Jr. use the paintbrush while the other koopalings use the wand from SMB3 that Huggbees mentioned during the video. lol
Wise words: It’s not about the character’s moveset, it’s about how you use the character. You could be using an F tier character, yet you could still win a tournament if you play them right. You could play an S tier character, yet you’ll lose if you don’t play them well.

I tend to toss out missiles to go in for a dash attack or grab. But then again I am not good at the game so that's probably suboptimal.
I usually use charge to either scare/intimidate players into doing less risky things, or as a hard read/punish option, like a roll read

Then try his very hardest on any character he got like this was life or death going as far as to research anyone he didnt do good on. Took the fundemental idea of I just wanna play smash and genuinely nuked it to the max.

I sympathize with your buddy. I no-lifed Smash Bros and Rivals of Aether a few years ago and got what is, among my close friend group, unbeatable skill. In reality it's probably nowhere near tournament level, but I am the undisputed best of my friends, who are the only people i play Smash with, though I always love playing it with them.
I find it unfun to win without challenge every round, and they also find it unfun to lose without hope every round; it's a lose-lose scenario. So i change up my characters every round to put myself at a handicap so we can all have fun.
They've been getting better though, which is awesome to see. I think someday soon they'll be able to go toe-to-toe with me, and I'm excited for that. I know I'm sounding arrogant, but the point is that I understand your friend's position, at least somewhat.

I was so surprised when i first learned Samus' "spamus" reputation a few years ago: I've always been a samus main and I've always loved bringing her into close combat- not because she's good at it but her melee combos are so satisfying to pull off- chaining the uppercut blasts into a screw attack is probably the most satisfying combo in the game imo

Captain Falcon is hype but not as hype as Falcon upplayers say he is. Knee hasn't been an interesting move for 2 decades, and fishing for stomp knee 10 times in 30 seconds isn't an interesting play style. Also, Falcon players tend to either be pretty cool people, or the cringiest attention-hungry mofos out there that only play him because others think he's hype, there's no in between.

I main Wii Fit but yeah, I don't go online and prefer playing to have fun... She's really awesome, has inspired me to be more physically active, and is always a great first pick when playing with friends. I was thoroughly expecting to get roasted but ended up with tears of joy in my eyes.
I have a friend who plays Wii Fit and is actually top ranked at my college. Very nice guy, he paid for a hotel room when we were going to a tournament with other people from the college and wouldn't even let me pay for part of it, and during that trip I found out we went to the same tiny high school and I actually knew his younger brother. That is to say, if you main Wii Fit, I already have respect for you.
As for the character themselves, I think they're underrated. They're fun, and while clunky I'd say they're solid if you know what you're doing. If Incineroar didn't exist in Smash, I'd probably try to main Wii Fit.

Tbh Kid Icarus Uprising is REALLY REALLY fun. The combat is highly customizable and a bit tricky to master, but the plot is fun, the voice acting is great (I still sing Pit's little song to myself all the time), and if a sequel was ever in the works I would buy it in a heartbeat.

I see where he comes from from some of the points but I still think Kid Icarus dissevered a spot in the game. however dark pit could fo been a skin and Plautana was an unneeded inclusion, happy it got more light on the game as a hole though.
Palutena is a really endearing character in KIU, Smash gave her exactly none of that other than a few canned voice lines. Her animation in Smash 4 and Ultimate is really good though, and at a competitive level she's good against the cringe zoners that no one likes.

I am a kingdom hearts fan. I started playing the games incredibly late into the franchise’s lifespan; around half a year before kingdom hearts 3 finally released. I got those 2 pre-3 collections of the games and played them all in chronological order of release. I had an incredibly fun time playing through all of the games and just taking in the experience for the first time. The amount of triumph I felt after completing 0.2 just one month before KH3’s release was one of the most gratifying feelings I’ve ever experienced in my gaming life. I felt legitimately prepared to jump on the kingdom hearts 3 hype train with all the other kingdom hearts fans. I became so invested in the series that I even tried out the mobile game and the 2 DS games, enjoying one of the 3 so much that I played it to completion 4 times on 4 separate cartridges. And I popped the hell off when I saw that the flaming object that Mario threw in the air was a keyblade.
And as a kingdom hearts fan, I must say that every single one of your complaints with the series is entirely accurate.
Kingdom Hearts: One of the most important series ever to exist to dozens of thousands of people, a unifying force for nerds, and one of the most interesting worldbuilding premises and executions, and simultaneously maybe the stupidest fucking game in existence (coming from a serious KH enjoyer and main of Sora despite my hatred for the best boi)

As a pit/dark pit main i would like to say... That's about right. I love the great recovery, and the fairly decent damage, but the lack of kill power is an absolute pain. Pit has the one of the weakest spikes in the game. It can take 3-5 OFFSTAGE SPIKES to take single stock...
ok so im a ridley main and last night I had one of the most clear and realistic dreams I've ever had where the next SSB games demo dropped and had all the characters they are gonna bring back with no new ones, and ridley was in that roster. I strictly remember that in the one match I played ridley, he was ridiculously strong. Holding down up B causes him to glide after it, down air could be canceled at any point, neutral B was now a Rob-like laser beam, and his frame data was really good.
After I woke up I could quickly deduce it was a dream, since nothing will ever go right for ridley mains
Just recently started following this channel, somehow I still haven't caught onto the fact that everytime I think it's going to be a cool quick 15 minute video to fill a little time I'm actually in for a beautiful two hour rant.
Huggbees, I'm just going to say that a solid 95% of Kingdom Hearts fans agree with everything you said about the series.
And I am one of them.
Kingdom Hearts is cringe and overly convoluted, and that's why we love it. Also it's objectively true that every KH OC is terribly written minus Riku, the sea salt trio, and MAYBE Sora. Aqua and her friends are PAINFULLY boring and cringe and the female OCs are all terribly written, especially Kairi. They're getting better with the writing though as shown with ReMind being peak and finally starting to redeem Kairi after 25 years of useless damsel-ness. Can't wait for the next arc.
As a Ness and Lucas user, with Ness, no word other than 'if' is truly the best description. For Lucas, I just ended up laughing too hard. Was not expecting it. Amazing.
I love how the only thing for K Rool is "you guys ranked him wrong" while the funi music plays

As far as characters I am disappointed aren't in Smash, I think Shantae and Shovel Knight are my top two. Shovel Knight was something of an unexpected poster child for Nintendo in general for a while, in addition to being THE poster child for indie games. As for Shantae, she's a sleeper hit character with a lot of originality in her design, and her controls are jarringly similar to Smash Bros controls, but optimized for a platforming adventure instead of a combination fighting game/beat-em-up.
Well, time to dash your hopes and dreams with some roasts of my own. Don't take them too seriously, because while everything I say is objectively true, it's also an absolute joke since neither of them will ever go outside the "indie" sphere.
Shantae: Have you ever heard the classic taunt "I can win with one hand tied behind my back"? Shantae players are a step above that, because they can win with one hand down their pants furiously beating off to a character and series that is best known for 99% of its female characters dressing like they came out of a porn parody of Disney's Aladdin and for its heroine getting stuffed in an even MORE stripperific outfit than normal for some random-ass reason in every other game, with its generic sometimes-a-Metroidvania-sometimes-not platforming gameplay and "Oh wow, we're so self aware" writing being shoved to the wayside. Oh right, this is a Smash video. Well, Shantae's available as a Mii Brawler costume and a Spirit, I guess. Set aside some time in your schedule of wanking to the half-naked half-genie heroine's 8,500+ entries on Sankaku Complex to master Mii Brawler, because that's all you're ever gonna get. The series started out on the Game Boy Color, so at least it was Nintendo-adjacent until it went multiplatform with a Kickstarter-funded step beyond DSiWare. All told, Shantae and her cult of creepy fetishists fit the Mii Brawler mold but with LOLTITS instead of LOLPETERGRIFFIN. Now do humanity a favor and wash your goddamned hands.
Shovel Knight: I really have nothing bad to say against Shovel Knight. He has a solid moveset that can be used for both melee and ranged combat. He's relatively short but he wears a full set of armor, so he can be as heavy as gameplay balance necessitates. As far as I know, he doesn't have a cancerous fanbase or a bunch of memes around him. In fact, I can't say anything more about him. He's just...good. Shovel Knight is just unequivocally, unremarkably good. So if a surprise Nintendo Direct announced him for the next Smash, it'd get the usual amount of likes, a small yet undisclosed number of dislikes, and an overall reaction of "Huh, neat". And that's the reaction you get if you choose Shovel Knight. "Huh, neat". You inspire neither fear nor favor nor respect nor disdain, just ambivalent positivity. Yey. At least he has his own Smash-adjacent mode in his own game. Just play that rather than wishing upon a star for the Blue Burrower.
That's the thing, shovel knight isn't Nintendo he's all over the place 😂

Plus pyra and mythra, have absolutely no legacy in gaming as a whole, so they weren't picked because they were important to anybody compared to someone like king k rool.

As someone who was really into Kingdom Hearts (I've kind of fallen off of it nowadays), every bit of criticism of the series that you laid out is absolutely right. I'd also add that they completely ignored the crossover potential of Final Fantasy and Disney properties by the second game, with a small handful of FF characters just appearing in the one or two levels that weren't just Disney movie locations.
Always thought it was really odd that it was billed as a FF crossover and then that was just abandoned heavily. and then they tried to bring in TWEWY in DDD? and THEN KH3 don't even mention these characters until DLC lol

Everything said about Mega Man is correct. The better you get at him, the more you understand that you just make things happen. And somehow, without knowing what you're doing, you stumble into victory and keep trucking on despite inconsistent performance. He is at his core consistent, but what other people can do with him isn't. Just like Capcom's own handling of him.
Yeah I mostly just jump'n'shoot while cycling through sub weapons until I see a chance for a meaty Hard Knuckle. It's fun treating other characters like robot masters while using the shield button as little as possible.

The fact that Sora is in Smash means that Mickey Mouse is also in Smash because his key has a Mickey head shape on it, which is absolutely hilarious and that alone makes him worthy of being in the game and no other reason. (And yes, the Miis are one of my most played characters right next to Steve from Minecraft, just in case you couldn't tell).
I fail to see how rambling about Mickey Mouse being in Smash makes it obvious that you play Mii and Steve, but perhaps I'm missing something.

The hilarious thing about "Ah they didn't use the paintbrush for Bowser Jr. because his character slot represents all the Koopalings and them using the paintbrush doesn't make sense" is that all of them literally transform into Shadow Mario for the Final Smash.
They could've also *only* had Bowser Jr. use the paintbrush while the other koopalings use the wand from SMB3 that Huggbees mentioned during the video. lol
Wise words: It’s not about the character’s moveset, it’s about how you use the character. You could be using an F tier character, yet you could still win a tournament if you play them right. You could play an S tier character, yet you’ll lose if you don’t play them well.
