When i was 19 in 99 my mum was in the market for a new little hatch, I saw the reviews and told her to get a vts, she went for dark blue with no options and swirly wheels.
Interesting fact for the Saxo fans! The 16v badge on the rear qtrs actually originated on the ZX 2.0 16v, which also had the similar stick on arch extensions.
1997 I ordered a Mercury grey VTR brand new from my local dealership. I collected it at midnight as the new reg came in (R) along with several other customers. The dealership hosted a Casino night and at the turn of 12.00 we all got to drive off in our new cars. It was a big deal back then when the reg changed only once a year. Went back a couple of weeks later for the boot spoiler to be fitted. Mine had the immobiliser key pad too.
Mine was a 1996 (the first year of production I think) but registered post sept so on the R reg. Unlike this one mine had a proper glove box where the airbag is in this one, plus as I mentioned it had a key pad immobiliser. I’ve got an original brochure somewhere. Watching this vid was a bit weird as I can remember the feel of the leather gear knob and even the smell of the interior, yep I know weird!! I sold it in 2000 for a Seat Ibiza Cupra.
Incredible level of restoration! Considering Matt says he had lack of knowledge the workmanship says otherwise and has been done to a beautiful standard! Ps Sean mine is actually a mk1 VTS aswell 😛😛 didn’t realise they were that rare!

super clean! love the mlk1 106 and mk1 saxo
Man I wanted one of these in my teens. The pre face lift looks so much better imo. It would have to be blue for me but this one looks great!

Well done Matt, cracking job. Certainly brings back some memories from the Saxo days (SSC).
That engine bay is ridiculous! I thought was Golf was good for the age but this has inspired me to crack on with some bits that need doing
This was VERY clean when Nick aka retroplates had it, good to see it's been taken to the next level.
Hi @bungers99 this was not Nick’s car. His went to a private collector I believe. 😊
@@MatthewMoore5 You're right - my mistake!

Thank you!
Nice feature vid. Good to see you involving the community on the channel 👍
Love the rolling shots!
I have a white one, completely original with 38k miles. I will probably never sell it
I had a mk2 I think the mk1 was pre abs nice restoration 👍
Very cool. Does Matt have a RUclips channel or an Instagram with the rebuild?
@98.mercury.vts is the Insta
What was the cost?
Is there a button for the heated mirrors?
@pavlosvtec2059 Matt and I spoke about this...there isn't. We think it must come on with the heated rear screen.
