Most auto shops make their money ripping people off because they know that a majority of people will pay their prices instead of fooling with trying to fix whatever problem they may have with their vehicle or motorcycle. Its a good thing that you've found a work around and will be able to install a new push button as a permanent solution. That will definitely help so you won't have to worry about the wires being exposed to the elements and getting wet whenever it rains. Last thing you need is to short out your electrical system or starter trying to start your bike because the wires got wet. The mic setup sounded great by the way and except for the noise from the bike, I heard no wind noise whatsoever...
it's true that shops will charge a fortune because of the ignorance of people not wanting to learn or take the time to do things on their own, as far as the mic goes, I am trying to block more wind but I do want the sound of the bike to come thru, so that people know that the video is legit and that I am not doing a voice over or something, I like people to be able to hear the bike and the traffic and maybe a dog barking in a car or whatever just not all the damn wind hitting the mic while I am riding..lol
Good on you Bill. I'm pleased that you found a work around for the starter. Your audio sounds great too.
it was simple to do but now I need to fix it the rest of the way...lol
Sound is good.
right on thank you.

Just wire in a momentary switch if you don't care how it looks.
Audio sounds great.
