I am a wheelchair user also. The first thing I noticed was the rugs on the floor. So hard to roll on and tracking dirt from outside to inside. (You keep them really clean!). We took all of the rugs out of our house and replaced with wood floors. ( I realize with a rental you can't do that). I have a shower chair I bought from Home Depot that goes over the tub. I can just shimmy from the chair onto the shower chair which works really well, then just swing my legs over into the tub. I also have a smaller portable shower chair for travel which works great. It definitely takes a lot of imagination, creativity and thought to make an inaccessible living space accessible. That and a positive attitude (though some days when I have crashed into doors for the 10th time, I get pretty cranky!). Thanks for sharing your ideas and you bright outlook.
I love your hack for kitchen spices. I do that for my household cleaners but never thought about doing one for my spices. I also have one in my bathroom for my shampoos, powders, etc. I live in the tiniest of apartments and I'm constantly stuck somewhere. I have an electric chair that feels quite massive. I'm soon moving to a fully adapted accessible unit. I haven't walked in 10 years because of my back. I'm looking forward to being able to cook again. I love how your living room is uncluttered yet still nice looking. And the lady.of the house has a safe place.to hide her snacks... Over the stove! 😂 Thanks for the video, I love how you've kept it real. I'm subscribing!
Thanks for the comment I know it's been a long time since we've posted anything new.. life has been crazy but we're hoping we can get back to it before the end of the summer
This was a great video! ! i am a person with a disability myself. i was born with one arm, no legs. i also work with people with disabilities who want to transition out of nursing homes and into their own place. Researching others' accessible apartments for a work assignment and ran across your video. Awesome job and thank you for sharing not only the features of your apartment but how you make it work (your transfers in the bathroom and well, everything)! Also loved your tips of making the most out of your kitchen storage! Thank you again. So appreciated!
Hi guys Loving the channel, it’s such a fresh look at these type of information channels. As a quadriplegic since 2011 I’ve seen many such sites spring up but for me they kind of lost their way a little aiming for subs and commercial success rather than genuine information interaction which I really enjoy with your channel. Long may you guys roll. Much love from the UK as sharing the love world wide is definitely the secret to a great life 😉🙏🏻🤗♿️
Thank you for sharing. I am looking at selling my home and moving to a wheelchair accessible place as i have primary progressive MS , and losing the power in my limbs. particularly my legs. accessible apartments seem very rare here in Ireland, so this has given me great ideas! Much thanks :)
Some great tips! We are three wheelchair users (although I can stand for short times) and we’ve been struggling with the kitchen. Your spice rack and your dishes storing solutions are game changers! Thanks!! P.s, can you share which grabber you are using?
I just found you guys and you might be my fave channel. Please keep making videos. You both are so awesome and amazing. I can’t wait till your channel grows!! You guys are so sweet and loving. I feel like I’m just hanging out with friends when I watch you.
Thanks my brother for this I am a disabled veteran and diabetic I struggled with working out and losing weight. Could possibly post video of cardio or strength exercises that works for you.
Thanks for the videos. I've been pushing around for 23 yrs come Father's day. Maybe a video on how to remember to do pressure releases? I'm very active just forget to get my butt in the air. Fighting a pressure sore at the moment.. Long healing process. You can get good grabbers at Rural King for $5. Strong like the 1 you have. Keep up the good work& smiles!!
Thank you! That is a good reminder about pressure release, I had one pressure sore when I was in college and I NEVER want one ever again, I'm fortunate enough that the good Lord has given me a decent amount of cushion on my back side haha but as I start to lose weight it's a good reminder to be aware of my pressure spots.... What kind of seat cushion do you sit on?
You guys are adorable! I love the tour of your wonderful home. I’ve been a paraplegic for some time and you touched on everything. Great tips and ingenious ways to get stuff done!
People With Disabilities who are in wheelchairs would not have as hard of a time finding real wheelchair accessibility if apartment complexes would stop renting wheelchair accessibility apartments out to people who don't need them. The second thing is if apartments were designed so if someone in a wheelchair needs to move in all maintenance would have to do is remove the doors and kick plates under the sinks in the bathroom and kitchen and the shelves under them. Having the stove built into the counter and the oven separate would mean maintenance would just remove the doors and kick plate below the stove and thus you can get your legs under the stove as well. In the bathroom just designing all of them so there is a space wide enough between the toilet and tub/shower would help make it safer and if the apartment is designed the right way the apartment complex can have some removable bars they can slap in when needed and they can be removed when the person in a wheelchair moves out. All it tales is people and architects to design apartments that can be hybrid more places can be accessible.
I'm in a interabled relationship my boy has Cerebral Palsy and my apartment is upstairs with no elevator and is very tiny what do you recommend he wants to come over...I keep telling him know but it's not fair..
Hi kasey I'm in a motorized wheelchair, I want to know if you know anyone that has a tiny skoolie bus with elevador access, but that they live in? I always wanted one but it has to have room for my chair. Also you can get a motorized wheelchair that lifes mine's I can get it way up and get thing's up high. Love you both God bless you always.
I've been in a chair for about 2 years now. I'm looking to move out on my own after a divorce. I was wondering if you, or anyone in the comments, had some resources or tips they could share with me? I've been looking two weeks but very few places have wheelchair accessible apartments. Thanks in advance!
Hey so depending on how new the apartment buildings are, i think some are required to have at least one accessible unit, but you usually have to ask specifically about it, and lot of the other buildings are required to have them, so sometimes you gotta just look at a lot of properties and see if there are any that you can make work
I was woundering i ..when ur in the shower..does it get really slippery n make it hard to wash ur self n transfer ?? That's my main problem with my apartment....Thanks ..... Vickie
Hey Vickie, Thank you for the question. Sometimes it can get a little slippery. The shower chair I use has a little bit of like "grip" on the sitting surface so that helps especially during transfers but sometimes I do have to be a little careful when I get too much soap on my bum 🤣... If you're having a lot of trouble it may be worth looking into a different shower chair

Thank you! and you're absolutely right if I could do wood floors or laminate I absolutely would!
Very organized! It really showing how you get into the shower.
