There isn't a MK III TC 1.7 teleconverter. The last version was MkII. Also, the TC20E III is much better than the previous iterations. It was released alongside the 300mm F2.8G ED VRII and provides outstanding results for such a high level of magnification. That being said, I have heard wonderful things about the Z mount Teleconverters. I hope they make some more lenses that are compatible with them!
Aha you are correct! Just checked my emails - I had the TC-17E II - my bad! Good to know about the TC-20E III fingers crossed it bodes well for the Z 2.0x - thanks again!!
Very nice review Christopher! I just picked up a new 70-200 F2.8 S lens (well...traded in a bunch of equipment to get 3 different lenses) but I did not consider the 1.4 TC. I might just pick one up (one of these days). Although, at CA $730 it might be a very long while - lol. Thanks for posting!
Thanks so much for your comment, I think it's honestly worth considering, that extra 40% of reach is certainly worth it given the sharpness is still spot on!
Another brilliant review and I avoided all Tele converters like the plague in my Nikon and Canon gear. This review I will have to re examine tele converters if I go to Mirrorless format in future from my D5 and D6 plus the Canon 1dx mark iii
Honestly, it has completely made me rethink teleconverters. I think we are going to see a lot more innovation. I've been wondering if it has anything to do with the fact that the actual optics of the converter are closer to the sensor? It's an interesting question to ponder. I think it is probably a combination of many factors. Enjoy your current cameras, the D5 is a beast - haven't seen a D6 in the flesh yet!
Good to know the quality and resolution reproduction is this good, I’m looking forward to the 2x but the price is making me wonder if I’d rather buy the Z50 as a spare DX camera
I just got the 2.0 review up - here: ruclips.net/video/eWxHTnwR7TM/видео.html I think the Z50 would actually be a better choice! Thanks for your comment and please consider subscribing.
Nice video Chris! Remember now, the Z 1.4 Teleconverter in crop mode with the Z6 II or the Z7 II will give you a 420mm f:4 which is very, very attractive!!
Very true, and thanks for your comment. I have just reviewed the 2.0 Z as well, it's not quite as good as this though - from what I can tell. But more testing to be done. Please do consider subscribing if you haven't already :)
This is untrue, cropping an image reduces the effective aperture, so it would be an equivalent 420mm f/5.6; basically the same as just using a 2x TC. There is no such thing as a free lunch with optical physics.
I’m being realistic, I would be extremely perplexed if they don’t work. Also, without naming names, a certain live stream with Nikon reps on it kind of intonated that they would be.
@@HamerReviews awsome, i hope so, justifies the price tag slightly if the tele converter will be compatible with those other lenses....thinking i will pick up the 1.4X...due to the higher image quality and sharp auto focus
That’s the one I’ve mostly been using. They are honestly very good but the 1.4 is extremely good. I have no doubt that the TCs should work with the 100-400 and I’d be surprised if they don’t work with the 200-600
That’s my view at the moment yes. I’ve been spending more time with the 2.0 but my results remain inclusive beyond the 1.4 being mindblowingly good and the 2.0 being OK
Well, if you crop you lose resolution and image quality. It’s an option if printing small but not if you need the resolution. Perhaps an option on the Z7 II but I think it’s a push on the Z6/Z6 II. If you can avoid cropping you’ll always get a better image.
My question might sound silly but I've got to ask anyway. If you put an Z teleconverter on your Nikon Z camera than add an FTZ adapter than an F mount lens let's say Nikon 300 mm F4 pf , do you think it might work? Cheers.
@@HamerReviews One more question if I may....Do you have a big loss in quality when using and Z teleconverters. I know that there is quite a bit when using a F mount teleconverter but I was wondering if Z teleconverters are much better, Cheers again.
@@andreiiasi the 1.4 is undoubtedly better than any other 1.4 I’ve used. It’s above and beyond the quality of other teleconverters. I’m still analysing the 2.0, I’m not sure if it holds up or not. Hi. Great review. Are you going to review the 2x converter to? Plz provide cropped (1:1) picture examples too in you reviews. 😊
I’ve got it in pre order but still waiting for delivery :( that being said the squirrel is 1:1
Great review. Glad to be part of your community.
Welcome aboard! Thanks so much for commenting and for subscribing 🙂
Thank you for your thoughts I believe that extenders on mirrorless cameras are sharper the on DSLR

@@HamerReviews D6 is great for sports plus an improvement on the D5 with faster focusing.
I have no doubt in that at all! I’ve not owned many single digit D cameras. The D1 was my first and I had a D2hs and D3 for a bit - lovely cameras!

Thank for the Review.
How is the influence of the TC on possible close-focus distance (lens on 70 and 200mm)?
It doesn’t change them, incredibly
Great review!
Glad you enjoyed it 🙂
Which source told you that the teleconverters will be compatible with the 200-600 and 100-400 :)
I’m being realistic, I would be extremely perplexed if they don’t work. Also, without naming names, a certain live stream with Nikon reps on it kind of intonated that they would be.

So my next question, is there really a difference between the 1.4x teleconverter and just cropping with the 70-200z on its own ?
Well, if you crop you lose resolution and image quality. It’s an option if printing small but not if you need the resolution. Perhaps an option on the Z7 II but I think it’s a push on the Z6/Z6 II.

Sadly and rather frustratingly the FTZ adapter won’t with on the teleconverters, they physically won’t fit 🙁

Hey there, will this 1.4x TC work with a Z mount 50-250mm? I have a Z30.
It won’t sadly.

Honestly the Nikon ones are the best choice - TC1.4 E III?
I got the TC-2 to “reach” further after Ricci did a quick review. I’d be interested in your comments
I’ll have a video up as soon as I get it :) fingers crossed it is sooner rather than later!
