Love to hear about Doug's dad and Granddad. You don't know how fortunate the generations that followed them are. It was obvious each preceding generation allowed the next generation to step in without hesitation. I know many incidents in my neighborhood where the fathers treated the sons as no more than hired men. I see the addition of Brody as another step in adding another branch of the Larson family. I hope Randy's son also takes an interest in the farm.
When Chet said we didn’t even have an impact back then I just about spit my coffee out. When I was young on the farm a ratchet was a luxury. A tool box was a red steel thing that you had to dig thru to find the wrench you needed. Of course I’m 75 so that was like the dark ages. Any way I now own 2 impacts and a rolling cabinet although much smaller than yours. You guys keep doing what you do and we’ll keep enjoying the content and the people in it. 👍🇨🇦
Wow you must have been lucky. It had paint left on it! The one we used didn't have any on it. But it is out in my garage full of old bolts.

A suggestion for labeling your new (and existing) tool box drawers... Buy some rolls of "Roll-N-Cut Flexible Magnetic Tape" (1/2" wide, 1/16" thick, 15' long, around $8/roll on Amazon). Cut it into 3-4" lengths. Either directly label them with a Sharpie, or create labels with a label maker and stick them to the magnetic tape strips. The magnetic tape then sticks anywhere on any drawer, all while letting you reorganize the drawer's contents at will at any time. Works very well in my experience.

Seeing the $1,000,000 ‘s of dollars worth of equipment you have now it’s humbling to see that not too long ago you worked out of a kids wagon for your tools. Good things come with hard work....the younger guys in your shop I know respect how far Larson Farms has come Doug O. Hope you can hold it together with the crazy prices we’re seeing now. I know I speak for everyone when I say we love the history lesson and the flashbacks of what used to be! I come from a very small farm and it never got bigger than that. So neat to see your progression.

I grew up on a farm but we didn't farm it ourselves, my father had a mechanic shop there working on small gas engines and bigger diesel engines.
It was really my thing so I left and ended up with my uncle doing anything & everything pertaining to semi trailers. I did painting, refrigeration, welding and fabricating.
My passion was welding, fabricating & machining but it's kinda hard to do that with one arm in a wheelchair. 🙂🙂🙂🙂
Thanks for the inspiration it's really been tough on me and my wife with prices of medications food and now gas and i not being able to provide like I was doing im not one to ask for help I did start a gofundme page that was useless but got a little help from church and friends that were very helpful i wish I could just get back to being me on the road was my happy place now I just sit at home praying for a new government that cares about people like us 🇺🇸

Well Chet, I'd recommend that you put the swivel wheels on your new toolbox on the ends and the non-swivel ones in the middle so it's much easier to move around the shop.

Luv the Dougo Dap! My father was a master mechanic with Pratt & Whitney. I have his tools and will be proud when the day comes that I hand them down to my sons. They don't build'em like that anymore. You can see where my father engraved "Falcon" our last name on each tool. Great memories and many engines, hours, and miles were traveled on account of his drive and dedication. God Bless

Had the same thing with tools when I was young with my Dad. Then I went to mechanic school and got a big tool box and filled with tools. Now being on the farm again it is so much easier to work on things and much quicker.

That tool box is sweet, but I even choked up a bit when Dougo rolled out the wagon. I love getting new tools, but those old ones really are something special; especially when they’ve come down through the family.
What I like most about the green and gold is that it’s my Packers colors and I’m so proud of you for being brave enough to have a lot of green and gold on your farm being in Minnesota. Go Pack Go!!

My father and I had a scrap metal job when the price was high when you was talking about we made real good money during that period I remember one job I worked 4 hours and made 2500 bucks and I was only getting 25% of the profits

The biggest green and yellow tool box I have ever seen in my life... let's get some Larson Farms decals on that box right away and keep the Big Suede away from it... he breaks everything! First of all. Dougo it is most interesting when you talk about the old days. Really enjoyable hearing how things were years ago on the farm. Enjoyed seeing the old tool boxes on the wagon compared to the brand new tool center box.
I personally am proud of your operation as how far you have progressed thru your hard work all the time. Take pride in what you have as you got it by good farming methods and honest hard work. You and your family deserve everything you have in your operation now days. Wonderful farm family Dougo!!!!!

That new tool box is a beauty. Love the John Deere colors. You can move that box anywhere you need it in the shop. That box will hold a lot of tools and equipment. Super addition to your operation.

In most all farming communities there are cafe's where the old timers hang out for morning coffee...would be a good place for a video. Also, thank you bankers for your infrastructure support of high grain prices.

The last sentence from Dougo is a midwest saying if I ever heard one. Boy it did bring back memories of when I was a kid.
You guys have a great, safe trip to Colorado. The Honda is looking great on tracks.
We did not have a "shop" , we did have a place with a concrete floor where some things could be pulled inside. there were tool boxes attached to most of the various pieces of equipment and each one had a collection of what was needed the most. the baler had sheer pins, and the two wrenches needed to tighten them and a grease gun. the mower had a box with mower sections, rivets and the thing to squish them and a hefty hammer, punch and chisel to knock out the old rivets. It also seemed like most everything was either 1/2" or 9/16" wrenches or sockets. I am guessing that 10mm is the metric equivalent now days. The new tool box sure looks nice!
When I was a kid back in the early 60's , we were pretty poor , with a 2 seater outhouse , drew water from a hand dug well , and all bathed in a washtub in the middle of the kitchen floor . I say all of that that to tell you this . We didn't call the dumps dumps , we called them " The Shopping Center " , because we always came back with more than we took . Scrap iron to sell for extra money , lumber , you name it , it was there . Even found a brand new ten speed bike , and all that was wrong with it is that it had a flat tire 🤔 . I didn't know just how poor we were until I had a family of my own . Every family around us lived the same as us , so we didn't know any other way to live. 🙏❤🚜
That stor loc chest is the best! They are made about a half hour from me and they are built way heavier than anything else!

Chet very nice tool box. The little wagon that your dad used a few years back is very cool as well because farm are not the most organized people. The reason they are not is because there is only so much day light in a day. Sometimes you have to update the hand tools just like the field tools. The video larson farms make are some of the best. I would put larson farms in the top five and I mean that. Have a good planting season.
Love to see you got a store loc toolbox we are just 20 min from store lock head quarters and we were the first one to get them we love them actually on the website if u see a row of deere color tool boxes thoes are ours love the vid
I would spray bright yellow enamel on all tools for the new toolbox station\workbench so that all tools with yellow paint belong to the new box and all other tools belong to the other toolboxes.
Love everything you put out in video but I really enjoy Doug's segments. It's always best to never forget your raisings!

Congratulations on your new tool trolley! That is a huge step forward for sure. With that being said, organization is everything in a storage unit that size. If I may recommend using Kaizen Foam in your drawers to organize all your tools. In addition to keeping them organized, you can instantly inventory your drawers for missing items. As an aircraft mechanic, this is of supreme importance to us. I believe it would serve you well too.
There are videos on RUclips about it. You can get the foam in various thickness from Amazon. Good luck with your project!

My grandfather work the same way as you Dougo he farmed 88 acres his workbench was a tailgate of the old Chevy or a hey wagon
With the boys gone it would be a great time for Dougo and Randy to do a history of your farm, including all the old equipment you once used
Remember selling beans for $4.36 a bushel out of the field, highest price of the year!! Sealed corn at $1.85 a bushel, summer time to pay seal loan, $1.87 against the corn with interest, sold it for $1.85 to cattle feeder!! I could have forfeit it n haul it to elevator for $.12 bushel!!! Couldn't help but make money!! Not!!
Have installed tracks on an old Honda quad. Ran it in a Swamp with water up to the bottom of the motor oil sump. Never got stuck with tracks.

Some of the best fishing i ever done in my life was in Fergus falls just 40 minutes from the farm . Best catfish you can eat are from grants mill
We recently doldrums our Polaris 900 with crew cab and tracks. We have multiple pictures of it stuck in snow! Many times we couldn't use the winch to get out due to the cable being iced and frozen. So we sold the machine

Love the wagon tool box setup reminds me of the 60s when I was helping in a stock car crew that is about all we had and no power tools back then. The new toolchest you will love as we have that type in the V8 team setup. The only thing is remembering where you put the tools in the chest from the start. Great to see Doug telling how it started.
We had checked a couple weeks ago and the price for scrap had went up to $200. per ton.
When we had our auction in 2010 it was around $360.00 per ton or a little more. Like 6 years ago we cleaned out shop & shed and hauled off a couple dumpsters off old engine blocks and parts that were leftover from my father's diesel mechanic business. I think scrap prices were around $120.00 much lower than they were before China quit importing our scrap.
Here we are at 85 degrees here in Houston and all the farmers have their crops in.
So great when Douggo talks about the old days. Kids do not know how different it was. Like working on all the equipment out side in the dirt and wind and not inside on heated dry concrete, walls and lighting. We farmed over 1100 acres in the 60's and worked out of a two car garage on our machinery. Our best wrench sets came from Supersweet Feed points to finally to get a new wrench set and socket set free. Otherwise we worked with random tools my dad bought at auctions off the hay racks and usually the tools were in what was left on a corner of the rack with what did not sell with all to go.
That old tool box serves and I bet it still works pretty good
when I was a kid, i had a coast to coast bike, drag slick on the back, 5 speed stick shift, little wheel in the front. came from coast to coast hardware store. I saw one restored a year ago, he was asking $3k for it. we all came from little to where we are now. I'm afraid we are going back to little.

I’m about the same age as Doug. I’ve always had nice organized tools. Not my Dad! 5 gallon buckets full of everything except what ya need!
For Christmas last year I bought him a really nice, albeit Husky roll around box. He has about 1/8 of his tools put in it as of last week. Tells me that it doesn’t matter. He knows where my tools are!!
