To be honest i think you could have a square piece of wood and it would feel the same as any hand plane. Also i have only used it in closeout barrels such as the wedge so i haven't had a lot of time on a wave to feel how it really rides. It is definitely faster than having nothing.
Looks nice. I'm working on one made from a broken skateboard deck, and I used 3 coats of marine varnish for the water proofing, small stainless steel screws, and finishing washers, with 3 inch woven nylon. I plan on making more out of broken skateboard decks. This time I will experiment with epoxy resin, that you get at your local West Marine.
Three thumbs up for the cool video, dude. I enjoyed the different angles, the music, and the footage - except ya gotta link to an example of using it at the wedge! I'm going to go check your other videos to see if you've got one. I just finished my first handplane made from an old school wooden chess board, but there's no wedge on the east coast.

Man out of all the videos i have see about this subject, yours is the best!
Hey man, good work skating it except it’s pretty much upside down. the concave should be on the bottom, its the way surfboards channel the water,

For the belt sander I used 80 grit and hand sanding was 120 grit. The brand doesnt matter that much
