I really like that you show people how to make their own, basic model, as well as offereing a fancier model for purchase.

I think it's amazing that you give this knowledge away for free. I don't know what I love more: making things for my art or making art. Thank you for all the information. Much appreciated.

I find it so kind and humble of you to post these kinds of video! Some people are handy and would love making this and some would prefer your beautiful designed brush holder! It's so nice of you to give your viewers options like this.

One additional idea - I like your idea of getting the base up off the table to allow more table room, so you could glue or screw a 4x4 piece of wood to the bottom of the 2x4. I thought of this because I had a scrap piece of 4x4 laying around.

One little quick tip that I use in my woodworking. If you add a little salt or sugar, just a tad, to the glue while it is still wet it will prevent the pieces of wood to slide uncontrolled. It makes the gluing process much easier. Thanks for your videos Mark.

Hey TY, Ramon! You just solved a problem I was having. I am building a shelving storage system to hold all of my paint tubes It's similar to the displays in the paint stores where you slide your tubes in one after another and the first shelf was giving me he11. I was trying to glue the metal holding rack that I created to the underside of the shelves and as it dried they were slipping even though I had sanded them but this worked perfect for what I was trying to do. I just wanted to say TY!!!

Not Tryin' To Hear You! I am going to make a guitar pick holder like this!I'll just notch little slots for the picks and they'll be visible instead of digging through a tin of them!

Or better yet, just use a clamp.

Adding salt or sugar can react with the glue and weaken the bond. Not too critical in this situation where the bonds wont be under stress, but in other projects with weight-bearing glue joints salt/sugar is not recommended.

I have just started doing watercolor, and have been looking for a brush holder. This is absolutely right up my alley. I love to DIY, and this is also the best design I've seen so far. I will be going to Home Depot tomorrow.

I know this is an old video, but in case anyone is interested - The real reason why they are called 2x4 or any other measurement, when they are in fact a 1/4 to a 1/2 inch less than that, is because they are rough-sawn to those original dimensions at the lumber mill. Then the retailer planes the rough edges down with an industrial jointer to smooth and equalise all the edges. The jointing process takes off that 1/4 to 1/2 inch all round. You can buy lumber rough sawn, or with 1, 2, or all 4 edges jointed, depending on the seller.
Ton prevent slippage you may as well drive a couple of screws in.

Mark, thank you for this. I only paint in watercolor, but I really enjoy like these tips and such you provide. I am going to make a couple of these to hold my brushes. And your color theory and composition lectures here translate to all mediums I believe. Thanks again for the hard work with these videos. If I ever decide to venture into oil painting, then Geneva will get my business!
