I can see why you would’ve related it to that. Lol I’ve seen people like vegan teacher compare eating animals/using chickens for eggs to the Holocaust . 🤠 Oh also the movie was based on a wwII movie “the great escape” so that could be it
I grew up knowing a bit what Holocaust was and the barracks, watchtower, barbed wire in the movie screamed concentration camp to me. Plus in my language dub intead of "The only way we get out is wrapped in pastry" Ginger says "The only way out is through the furnace"...
Its actually based off of "The Great Escape" a bunch of WW2 PWS tried to escape a prisoner camp and i think the all got caught (except for one or two) and then the Nazis killed 50 of the escapees. I don't know the entire number of men who tried to escape I just know how many were killed
“Unlikeable”? Rocky? That’s a bit harsh, IMO. Yes, Rocky could and should have told them the truth sooner; however... it was either continue the lie (which he didn’t start), and pretend to be what they assumed he was, or admit he couldn’t help, and get turned in and handed back over to the circus (which one gets the idea is little better than Tweedy’s Farm). I can understand why Rocky did what he did. It wasn’t that he plotted to scam them; it was from his point of view a matter of survival. And for whatever it’s worth- he DID honestly try to tell Ginger, right before he left. ...He just couldn’t bring himself to say it.
@@moona3206 They were. ...But, that has little to do with whether Rocky as a character is likable or not. And he did try to help them (or at least, Ginger specifically) avoid being pies.
Rocky's actually adorable ^u^ and he IS the main focus, technically. I mean, the broken-wing thing? He was a chicken so it didn't make a difference but because they thought he could fly they treated him like a king (except for Ginger and Fowler)
People are getting hyped about the sequel, and so am I, but I at least equally want a prequel about Rocky. There’s so many more subtleties about him the more I watch him in this movie, including and especially his offended reaction when Ginger accuses him of not being able to care about anyone as a lone free ranger. They could show flashbacks in Dawn Of The Nugget, but I don’t want that if it takes away from the main story. Rocky deserves his own solo film and I want it.
I’ll never forget this movie . Went with a childhoood best friend , little did I know it would be our last time together . He went out on a fishing trip with his father in Mexico . I’ll never forget , love you josh , and thanks for the chicken run clear ball that we got with our popcorn in the movies , still have it .
I know that I watched it, but I remember nothing about it. The only Wallace and Gromit I remember is that short skit of them on a picnic on the moon, eating all the cheese.

dad's leaving being a common thing makes me so sad and whenever i see a video of a dad being and actual dad i get so happy. people that run from fatherhood are not dad's, they are nobody
@@No1ofConsequence the stereotype is so bad honestly, like imagine being a dad and having that hanging over you. Paired with the fact that some dad's get asked if their kid is even theirs because people think they are a kidnapper is just so wrong
Fathers abandoning their kids is the worst because the stereotype they have created has real far reaching consequences. For instance: -It can make people wrongly believe that all mothers are inherently better childcarers than fathers, even in cases where the mother is _clearly_ the more irresponsible parent and the kids would be better off with their Dad. -The way that women pursue and act within relationships can be affected by a fear that their partner might flee from them the moment kids enter the equasion, forcing them into single motherhood because it's more commonly expected of women to bear the burden of childcare than men, ultimately leading to power imbalances and abusive relationships. (This goes both ways with one option being the man taking advantage of the woman's insecurities, the other being the woman becoming manipulative and controlling to try and entrap a man in a relationship). -Fathers get ridiculed for doing things as simple as _actually being present_ and caring for their kids, which is a totally backwards and weird thing to discourage a parent from being and further isolates men physically and emotionally when they deserve just as much love and happiness as anyone else. Ect ect. I'm glad there's been an uptrend in good dads recently. Shit _sucks._
When I moved into my first apartment alone I couldn't afford cable so I just watched DVDs all day. Chicken Run and Coraline were my go to bedtime movies. I never got tired of either. Love this movie
No, don’t take back that last statement Bionic. If you’re one of the 55% of people who unironically picked Chicken Little over Chicken Run, your hair IS bad 💯
I remember seeing this in theaters and having the VHS tape. Total classic. But I also think it’s unfair to compare it to Chicken Little because they are both great films in their own ways. I did vote Chicken Run as the superior on the insta poll tho.
Chicken Little was good? Sorry, I only watched it once and it's going in the Never Again pile with Mars Needs Moms and Butterfly Effect. Chicken Run I would watch once a week if it was on TV that often.
I can’t believe he grazed over the fact that not only did they escape, but in the ending scene, there’s young chicks being taught the whole story, their presence implying that the rooster got AROUND after they escaped-
This movie traumatized me as a kid. The scene where the crazy lady rips off the paper and reveals the insane and ugly face with the knife in her mouth. I remember being extremely scared when laying in bed, getting panic attacks and sobbing my eyes out. To make things worse, my father lashed out on me and hit me until i had a bruise on my lower back (yes because i wasn't able to sleep cus i was too scared he decided to beat me till i shut up). 15 years later the scene still made me rly uncomfortable, but I'm glad to see how far I've come since then. No more in contact with the abuser and healed enough to watch a video about that movie again. Thank you for this review. I've always wanted to revisit the movie but i dont think that even now i could watch it again. This was a great chance for me to see things from a different perspective and understand the metaphor of the scene that had haunted my dreams for years :) Edit: spelling
In defense of Rocky, yes he was a bit selfish in the beginning but he wasn’t unlikeable. After spending time with the chickens, he does realize that they live in a death situation and he tries to lighten them up. He develops into a sweet character later on in the film as he helps the chickens escape and falls in love with Ginger. He’s the best character in the movie in my opinion
Thank you for showing appreciation for such an underrated movie. Saw this in theaters as a kid and still love it to this day. Aardman animation studios did a great job here.
I liked this film a lot as a kid. And enjoyed your review. A lotta people seem to be misinterpreting the POW camp stuff as Concentration Camp stuff, when most of it is nearly 1:1 with the POW camp from the Great Escape.
Chicken Run is a movie I have watched since I was little and the reason I still love Aardman to this day. Wallace and Gromit was also got me into Aardman and I still love that franchise still to this day to.
Not So Fun Fact: This movie is actually based off of Auschwitz and the Jews that went there. The buildings are similar, and the fact that the chickens didn't think anything would happen to them is a reference to the fact that the Jews thought that nothing bad would happen when they got to the camp. There are other things as well if you watch the movie. More specifically it's based off of a famous escape attempt "The Great Escape." Sadly most everyone was caught and killed other then 1-2 people. Crazy stuff. Where I learnt this: My highschool history teacher
I was a bit traumatized by this movie solely by the part of when the hen got butchered. Yet I was fine with all the other creepy shit shows consisted of back then. Animal dies? Nah I can’t even.
Me too, the scene when they cut the hen's head off traumatized me in a sad way. Ms Tweedy going insane and losing her shit in the climax really spooked me out as a child tho.
Between this movie & "Curse of The Were Rabbit" it's almost as if Aardman was low-key nudging its audience into giving up eating meat (chicken, rabbit) or at least consider the proposition as a legit choice. As a 100% pure vegetarian, I approve this message.
You forgot the scene where a CHICKEN HOLDS A FULLY GROWN HUMAN on just a wire, because Mrs Tweedy cut the light's cord with her axe while trying to kill Ginger, Ginger fakes it by tucking her head in at the last second, only to reveal the now cut wire, that she's holding with brute strength alone, and dropped it, sending Mrs Tweedy plummeting to the ground. These are fucking strong ass chickens
Chicken Run was one of my favorite movies as a kid! I watched it all the time, and it's also the movie that introduced me to stop motion. I still love it to this day.
i wouldn’t call her a “trad wife” … seems more like she’s just a gold digger. edit: a *mean* gold digger at that. trad wife literally means “traditional wife,” aka they’re homemakers and some-what subservient to the husband. just fyi.
I agree with you to an extent but the idea of a trad wife leads women to want to marry rich so the man can pay for them while they do the house work. Its not necessarily that she is a trad wife but she is a product of people wanting to be a trad wife.
@@BionicPIGtv wouldn’t that be more the aspect of being rich to be happy in general? Otherwise the whole shift away from trad-wife would have lead to little to no women going for money in relationships. However it’s still heard about all the time.
@@BionicPIGtv also a gold digger would 100% leave if they found out their money was drying up whilst Mrs tweedy was still trying to find a way to make money With him.
@@Sheriden. You're right, it shouldn't have to be subservient, it can be an equal exchange of work. Someone does necessary work around the house, and takes care of the children if they have any, and someone works outside the house to bring money to the home, pay the bills, etc. Also, people ignore that the husband has to enslave himself on his job and work a sh*t ton of hours to provide for the whole family, yet no one would call that subservient? Why is there such a blatant double standard?
my dad still knows every line of this movie, because as a 3 year old I was obsessed with it along with shrek. He never got bored of them either. He says we had a period where we would watch those 2 movies every single day. Bless his heart.
Fun fact - chicken run is based off of the "Great Escape". Basically a bunch of ww2 prisoners of war tried escaping a prisoner camp, but all of them got captured (i believe one or two made it out). The Nazis ended up killing 50 of the escapees (i believe a bit over hundred tried escaping).
Mrs. Tweety to me as a child was just as terrifying as Hopper from a bugs life. She was scary in her presence and introduction, and she looked scary. Also both of their deaths frightened me as a kid.
I have very vague memories of watching this movie when I was little, but only once. I feel like, in some way, it traumatized me, so maybe I'll rediscover why.
Chicken Run is amazing. I love it so much. Aardman really popped off with it and I cannot wait to see what they do with the sequel. I could talk about chicken run for such a long time, the absolute beauty of the story and the characterisation and the design. It's pretty interesting how they made it too. The puppets were actually quite big
Broooo this was one of my go-to movies as a kid and I had completely forgotten about it until now! Movies with this type of animation were so sick! Flushed away, Wallace & Gromit, & this were all awesome, it's sad that no movies nowadays use this animation style.
Just watched this with my dad a few weeks ago. Fuckin love this shit. The death at the beginning and the weird ‘cut her head off’ scene at the end were the only things I had remembered vividly from when I saw it as a kid.
Chicken Run is my treasured memory. It was a film I choose to watch, bought a ticket and went to the cinema all by myself - a memorable achivement for a shy kid (up to keeping used ticket in candy bar I got as a snack to the movie as a memory)
This is why I LOVE YOU BIONIC PIG! Not only do you bring back the memories, but you defend these underrated classics! This was just freaking amazing 😍💜
Something particularly dark about the chicken taken: Ginger asks one of the hens why they didn’t give her some of their eggs and she was told: “She didn’t tell me, she didn’t tell anybody!” This implies Edwina ( the chicken killed at the start ) knew what would happen to her but chose not to tell anyone because she couldn’t take it anymore
OK, I'm not offended by this or anything, I just wanted to throw this out there, uh... she did infact still need a man, after Rocky left, because they begged Fowler to fly the giant ship after they finished building it, so... food for thought... Lol
I was 5 years old in 2000 and loved this film the moment I saw it. What attracted me was the design of the chickens and that it had the same design style as Wallace and Gromit. Those chickens looked so unique and appealing. Ever since my first viewing I've periodically rewatched the film over the years to see if it held up and EVERY time I watch it I feel the exact same emotions and think the same thoughts every time. I go into it without bias and come out in love. Definitely a kid's film that never fell from grace.

I can see why you would’ve related it to that. Lol I’ve seen people like vegan teacher compare eating animals/using chickens for eggs to the Holocaust . 🤠
Oh also the movie was based on a wwII movie “the great escape” so that could be it
I grew up knowing a bit what Holocaust was and the barracks, watchtower, barbed wire in the movie screamed concentration camp to me.
Rocky’s character development is one of the reasons why he’s my favorite character
They were about to get cooked tho
@@moona3206
They were.
...But, that has little to do with whether Rocky as a character is likable or not.
Chicken run is on that Rango level of goofy animated greatness.
FACTS
I remember watching this movie on Field Day in 1st grade.
That chicken said, “SHUT IT!” And you hear children gasp across the room.
I was just thinking about this movie yesterday. I wasn't sure if this was a real movie at first. It felt like a fever dream to me.
I've had pretty much that exact experience before, too
Same bro, Wallace and Gromit also feels like a fever dream every time I think of it
Literally me man lol
👌
Bro you have to be lying I did the exact same shit
I’ll never forget this movie . Went with a childhoood best friend , little did I know it would be our last time together . He went out on a fishing trip with his father in Mexico . They went missing . Later determined to be murder by pirates in those waters . We were 6 or 7 around that time . I’ll never forget , love you josh , and thanks for the chicken run clear ball that we got with our popcorn in the movies , still have it .
My most sincere condolences, friend.
Wallace and Gromit: Curse of the Were Rabbit is up there with Chicken Run. Both great movies.
I used to love Wallace and gromit! Thanks for reminding me of it 😆
@@Bonnie-lo3zh better go watch it now
I know that I watched it, but I remember nothing about it. The only Wallace and Gromit I remember is that short skit of them on a picnic on the moon, eating all the cheese.

Factoid: Disney's Mulan was filmed just north of Tweedy's Farm.
Sorry, it's nearly 8am, I run on American time despite being a Brit, I've gone through this mindset -
"Mulan... You obviously don't mean the 90's animated version so you mean the live action version....
But Tweedy's Farm isn't a real place... Do you mean in a studio past Aardman's, or where I assume Aardman's used to be if they moved after the fire?
.... I also assume this is a joke but what is the joke?
Do I need to have seen the LA Mulan to get this??
... I need sleep."
@@Roadent1241 lol You're A-Ok, It's a joke about the Concentration Camps for the Uighur people and political prisoners in China. Because live Action Mulan had it's on location scenes filmed close to them. And Disney is in good standing and paid them to shoot there.
@@JKurayami Ohhhh. Thank you for the clear up.
OOF, I get that reference...

I watched this movie as a young child and many other times growing up. Never once made me stop eating chicken or any meat. Never even considered it.
Same, I watched this movie countless of times as a child, I loved it. I also ate chicken today for lunch lol
For me, I'm grossed out by the idea of chicken pie because of this movie, but I'll happily eat from KFC and Nando's. A bit oddly specific, but there you go.

dad's leaving being a common thing makes me so sad and whenever i see a video of a dad being and actual dad i get so happy. people that run from fatherhood are not dad's, they are nobody
It was my mom that left. Stereotyping dads as the abandon-er kinda sucks.
For instance:
-It can make people wrongly believe that all mothers are inherently better childcarers than fathers, even in cases where the mother is _clearly_ the more irresponsible parent and the kids would be better off with their Dad.
@@conspiracypanda1200 everything you wrote here was completely true and that's just so sad
Is it really that common though, feel like I see a lot of dads around
When I moved into my first apartment alone I couldn't afford cable so I just watched DVDs all day. Chicken Run and Coraline were my go to bedtime movies. I never got tired of either. Love this movie
No, don’t take back that last statement Bionic. If you’re one of the 55% of people who unironically picked Chicken Little over Chicken Run, your hair IS bad 💯

@@StoryMing It just makes sense.
for real chicken little is one of disney worst cartoon and movie in general
I like how he couldn't remember the name of 'The Hole' or solitary confinement. But called it a hole and was accidentally correct.
I remember seeing this in theaters and having the VHS tape. Total classic. But I also think it’s unfair to compare it to Chicken Little because they are both great films in their own ways.
I did vote Chicken Run as the superior on the insta poll tho.
Why must we choose?!?! Lol I like 'em both for different reasons.
Chicken Little was good? Sorry, I only watched it once and it's going in the Never Again pile with Mars Needs Moms and Butterfly Effect.
Chicken Run I would watch once a week if it was on TV that often.
Chicken little wishes it was chicken run.
I can’t believe he grazed over the fact that not only did they escape, but in the ending scene, there’s young chicks being taught the whole story, their presence implying that the rooster got AROUND after they escaped-
"I hope I'm saying that right"
_Narrator: He was not._
Don’t fall for it, clearly Coffee Chris and PETA Jones are in cahoots!
Loving the many side characters you create.
I loved this movie as a kid, the gritty tone was just chefs kiss
Are we just going to gloss over that Mr Tweety kills Mrs Tweety at the end? He pushed that door, that wasn’t an accident.
I kinda can't blame him, honestly. She was such an abusive wife to him.
@@declaracionespolemicas Don’t get me wrong, I get it, but that’s first degree murder.
He got away with it because no one saw him
This movie traumatized me as a kid. This was a great chance for me to see things from a different perspective and understand the metaphor of the scene that had haunted my dreams for years :)

Still quote this movie religiously, one of my favorite movies ever.
I still to this day quote, “Me life flashed before me eyes... it was very boring.” All the damn time.
I was scared of this movie when I was young, found it kinda creepy.
Bro, chicken run is the most underrated film ever. Literally my childhood and it still holds up like a champ.

"They're going to kill themselves... wanna watch?"
"Yeah, alright."
Chicken Run is a movie I have watched since I was little and the reason I still love Aardman to this day. Wallace and Gromit was also got me into Aardman and I still love that franchise still to this day to.
Have you ever seen Creature Comforts? It’s such a hidden gem.
Capitalism doesn’t corrupt people.
Greed and power does.
I blame this movie for making me a vegetarian. I loved and was terrified of this movie as a kid

Wallace and Gromit are calling you.
I remember watching this as a kid and being terrified. Then going back and watching it as a teenager and loving it.
i wouldn’t call her a “trad wife” … seems more like she’s just a gold digger.
edit: a *mean* gold digger at that. trad wife literally means “traditional wife,” aka they’re homemakers and some-what subservient to the husband.
I don’t think there is anything wrong with being a trad wife….. as a women I wouldn’t feel “Subservient” to my Significant other.
When Aardman makes “The Great Escape” but with chickens instead 😆 I liked this as a kid & still enjoy Aardman’s work when they make a feature or short
I watched this movie constantly at my grandma’s house when I was four. So dear to my heart

my dad still knows every line of this movie, because as a 3 year old I was obsessed with it along with shrek.
I was, like, five years old when I first watched this movie and that chop scene floored me.

Got this movie as a Christmas present when I was a kid. Watched it so many times, the tape fucked up.
"And let that be a lesson to the lot of ya! No chicken escapes Tweedy's Farm!"
I quote this line with no context way too often
Did you hear of the chicken that laid eggs in winter.
She was no spring chicken.
Sorry for bad joke saw chicken in video and want to make this joke.
Generally movies that win Oscars are not underrated, which this one did.

Rocky is a bard who made the hens think he's a knight.
This is why I LOVE YOU BIONIC PIG! Not only do you bring back the memories, but you defend these underrated classics! This was just freaking amazing 😍💜
Something particularly dark about the chicken taken:
Ginger asks one of the hens why they didn’t give her some of their eggs and she was told: “She didn’t tell me, she didn’t tell anybody!”
This implies Edwina ( the chicken killed at the start ) knew what would happen to her but chose not to tell anyone because she couldn’t take it anymore
Chicken run is so popular, everyone i can think of recognizes it as a classic masterpiece
5:40 It would seem to take elements from "Animal Farm" as well.
16:20 I just thought Mrs. Tweedy was this movie's version of Cruella DeVil.
I'm so dead. Coffee Chris is my favorite character in the Bionic Pig Cinematic Universe.
But where is bootleg Pete?
For some god forsaken reason my mom showed me this movie when I was young . And I refused to eat chicken for a straight month
So you said the only good thing he does was throw a party, bit isn't him risking his life to help save the main "chick" (pun intended) something good?
