Soul eater is also a really good charm, yes it takes alot of notches, but it's way easier to get than unbreakable strength on normal, and it's upgrade is really noticeable.
Weaversong + Grubsong is a really underrated combo for spell builds imo! The little spiders generate soul when then run into enemies, it's really useful in steel soul since it lets you stay at a safe distance and just blast bosses to death
Fragile charms don't break in dreams, so still most of the time unbreakable one isn't needed. Godhome and all dream boss (exept for rad) you can use fragile version. Edit: Also Glowing Womb should be the worst charm on this list. It is interupting healing, have knowback, deals pathetic dmg and attacks sometime things that it can't deal dmg to. Also if compared to grimmchild that beat mawlek in 3 min and 35 s, glowing womb needed 7 min and 54 s
I understand where you’re coming from with quickslash, but for me all it did was lead to me being more aggressive leading in failing more fights. Also, you got me with the silksong thing.
I never noticed quickslash being particularly good. It's really only useful against slower moving early game bosses (when you haven't gotten quickslash yet). By the time you get quickslash, you're late enough in the game that you're fighting the faster bosses who will only allow you to get one hit in at a time regardless of whether you have quickslash on or not. Against regular enemies you can sneak an extra slash in, but again, by endgame you've probably upgraded your nail to where everything dies in two hits anyway and you can get two hits off on normal enemies without quickslash.
In defense of Dreamshield: it is extremely helpful against Primal Aspids, since it also does damage when you swing your nail, allowing you to be farther away from the hellspawn when you attack it. Also it's not terrible against Markoth.
@@CommentPositionInformer This is the Megaman paradox in a nutshell. When you fight the boss, his power shoots columns of fire from ground to ceiling that take up 80% of the screen. When you absorb the bosses power, you shoot a tiny fireball that's no different from your regular pea shooter.
As fiddly as it can be to use effectively, Dreamshield is pretty great for chip damage and sneaking in hits at otherwise impossible angles; the fact that it also occasionally blocks projectiles is really just a bonus. The notch cost is indeed hard to fit into many normal builds, but if you treat it as a (loosely) controllable familiar mixed with a recharging pseudo Baldur Shell it's actually pretty good value, and definitely worth giving a try.
KingSoul is actually good cause it unlocks the moment of the game that made it my favorite game I've ever played. The Accent up the Abyss with the Pale King's monologue was just PERFECT! But yeah other than that its useless.
The knockback charm has one very particular usage which saved my life, in the colosseum of fools, in the last trial, in the section where there is no floor, I use it to knockback everything into the spikes, made it really easy
imo dream wielder is better then quick slash just because of the wielder's multipurpose. can be used to heal while exploring better or can be used on bosses for 66 soul AND quicker. all for one notch. also i would also say steady body is 5th best as well cuz... its just good for so many bosses... and the primal aspids everyone hates so damn much
the best combo is probably spell twister and soul catcher when you like spell casting also if you have 5 notches you could either get wayward compass or any other one notch charms its the best combo tho
@@inertia179 personally I would use dream wielder for one notch as a way to get soul. You get 66 soul from a dream slash with dream wielder equipped, and the dream slash has a much shorter charge time. So three dream slashes on a slow moving enemy will completely fill up every one of your soul vessels from 0, and just one dream slash gives you two spell casts.
Honestly, quick focus is easily a top 5 for me. In the harder bosses you'll be able to get 2 heals in instead of 1 during staggers, which is really huge, and there are points in bosses that are run killers in P5 (Markoth, NKG, Abs Rad, etc) where you'll be able to get in a cheeky heal or two without risk of getting hit. Frankly the only time it wouldnt be useful would be against radiant bosses.
NKG gives plenty of times to heal. Just wait for the flame pillar, and immediately heal once you know where the 4th is going to be. The reason why he's a run killer is because he can deal 2 masks of damage, meaning that if you have 11 masks (the most without lifeblood), it'll only take 6 hits to kill you. And he can easily get 3 hits in if you get unlucky with the slash or dash attacks.
@@wta1518 also, at least for me, NKG is the least rng of the bosses. Every attack is dodgable and consistent, so as long as you can see what attack he's doing you'll be fine
Not too different we both share 3 charms in both 5 bests and worsts even if they're in a different order: Best: 5. Fury of the Fallen 4. Shaman Stone 3. Steady Body 2. Strength 1. Quick Slash Worst: 5. Dreamshield 4. Glowing Womb 3. Thorns of Agony 2. Grimmchild 1. Joni's Blessing.
Stalwalt shell is a really underated charm in my opinion With quick focus you can heal immediately during the invincible time With quickslash and steady body you can basically face tank almost all the base game boss easilly Sharp shadow is also a very underated charm to deal with boss that constantly dash toward you With that charm I manage to defeat mantis lord and hollow knight very easilly
Theese are my top 5 best charms. (And no this is not arguable) 5. Spell Twister Great placement in the video, fully agree. 4. Steady Body this may be a contrervesial pick, but p5 runners use it and it generally makes every encounter easier. its value is undeniable. 3. Fragile/Unbreakable Strength Great charm, although it is bad when doing challenge runs like no nail upgrades. 2. Quick Slash Good charm all round, it works in a spell build and in a nail build. 1. Shaman Stone This feels obvious, but it is by far the best charm in the game. It alone can make an entire spell build, you don't need things like soul catcher or spell twister. It can be intergrated into a nail build to make a hybrid build, for maximum destruction. Worst charms: Every other charm thats not: Shaman Stone Steady Body Quick Slash Strength Spell Twister Dash Master Soul Eater Grubsong Mark of Pride Nailmasters Glory Soul Catcher Shape of Unn Dream Wielder Heart Carefree Melody I cant rank the worst ones in order because there are so many equally bad ones. Most notably Fury of The Fallen For speedrunning Baldurs Shell and Stalwart Shell For doing radiant 2.0 and 3.0 Hiveblood and Deep Focus For doing white palace, Thats about where their usefullness ends though.
Pretty much all the "bad" charms on this list have some use in the game. Grimmchild can be traded for carefree melody, which is actually a top-tier charm, dreamshield is pretty decent against certain boss fights and arenas (looking at you colo 3), and kingsoul is actually required for certain endings. Heavy blow is even useful against some enemies and bosses. Glowing womb is probably the only truely useless charm in hollow knight.
For colo 3 I find that offensive builds work better. Look up the speedrun build and take out Fury, maybe replace quick slash with mark of pride and you're set. Dreamwielder lets you recharge soul on those enemies with a shield and knife, they're not as aggressive compared to the other enemies. Even without Fury, one great slash one-shots aspids and the red mosquitoes, and the soul sanctum teleporters are one shot by Shaman spells
Quick slash is definitely in the top 5, but also definitely isn't top 1. The reason simply being that in most situations if you only have 3 more notches, taking Strength is much more useful than taking Quick Slash. While quick slash technically has a bit higher DPS than Strenght, Strength will allow you to kill normal enemies much easier, and with bosses it will allow you to deal a ton of damage without having to play risky or aggressive. The only time Quick Slash is better than Strength is if you're using a spell build, since it allows you to charge sprlls faster, but other than that Strength would be better 100% of the time.
I personally found mark of pride to be the best charm because its just sooo much easier to hit your enemies And shaman stone saved my life in radiance because i just spammed abyss shriek☠️
honestly dream shield would be fine if it costed 2 charm notches or maybe even have 2 shields and have it cost 3 charm slots so you could fking mimic the stupidly broken boss called markoth
Hollow Knight is a game with a charm inbalance that's large enough that certain charms are always going to be top 5 best and worst respectively and it's hard to argue otherwise. A more unique tier list would be making a "Underrated" Charm tier list as there's quite a few Charms people look over.

I tried that thinking it would be a really fun time, but man does kingsoul recharge your soul SO SLOWLY. It's so ridiculous, why did they make it so laughably slow especially for a charm that costs 5 notches and that gets deleted from your arsenal if you want to progress the game? Personally I think they should've just made it an infinite soul charm given that it's gonna get deleted by voidheart anyway, but even without doing that, at least make it recharge at a rate that's at least fun to play with and doesn't make it a complete joke.

But as I said, in steel soul, this charms is insane. Or for people who have played the game before and wont die with the fragile one.
Quick Slash as no. 1? Man, that shiz is situational at best. Half of the bosses and most of the fodder only give you time for one or two slashes at a time. Also useless on any and all flying enemies or enemies you should pogo. It's good for a select few fights where you're given a few seconds to whail on the opponant... which isn't a lot. Failed Knight/Champion, Hive Knight, Mantis Lord's, maybe Oblobbls if you get them from the side, Markoth if you get lucky, Collecter, and a few others. Everything else, you're getting your slashes in when an opening appears, so you give them one or two slashes and then back off. I would have personally put Mark of Pride as no.1 and added in Quick Focus, Grubsong, or Nailmasters Glory because they're all good no matter what.

Bro has rustys voice lol
lmao, He's where I got the inspiration to make this video, I take that as a compliment
Dead!?
