I bought the Sonetto IIs a few weeks ago and I absolutely love them. I use them in a 2.1 system with a Hsu subwoofer and the overall sound is amazing. I originally was looking at the Lumiina II but I found the Sonettos worth the upgrade price.
thats amazing I did get the Sonetto III myself ( could not have the " wife of sub woffers in room" so had to go with the floorstanders.... hah but yea Sonetto line is AMAZING
I really enjoyed the breakdown of the choices in preference.. " what day of the week it is " - This resonates with me as Music is emotional ..and I figure so too is the responses we have to a speaker's sound. That delicate high-end and subtle details in the SF won me over. Thanks for this comparison list.. Looking forward to the results you present =)
Terry is the best speaker reviewer period! The work he puts in the reviews is insane..Terry,Since i value your opinion very much i need your opinion.Im thinking of buying Marten Oscar Duo.Right now i have BW 705S2.How much improvement and in what areas do i gain by going from BW 705S2 to Marten Oscar Duos.Ive listened to them but not in my room so its hard to compare although i was blown away by the bass that was coming out from the speakers...
Italians know engineering, style, taste, music and good tone. Doesn't get much more beautiful two way speaker. Complete with great stands. Not cheap but worth the money.
Sonetto II vs Lumina II (with subs) would be an interesting comparison. Sonettos come at almost twice the price as Luminas (that so many people rave about), so let's see the optimal resource allocation factoring in subs to fill in the bass. (Rather like KEF R3 vs LS-50 with subs)
i have compared the sonetto and luma series many times. The sonetto is much more refined sounding than the lumina and is a closer representation of the sound sonus faber is known for in their higher end lines. The lumina series is awesome for the price point, much preferred compared to its peers. If you have the money to to go sonetto, I strongly recommend it. Source: i work in the industry
@@PtheTinTHE Thx any thoughts on Sonetto 1 vs 2? I will be using them with a sub(s). I prefer the size/form factor of the Sonetto 1, which is closer to the Buchardt S400mk2 I currently own. I am looking for a more musical presentation, especially at lower volumes. Also Sonetto 1 is more comparable with Lumina 2 size wise, although names might suggest otherwise. Currently use Kinki monoblocks with Holo Audio Spring 3, but thinking of also trying out Hegel H390 as alternative. From what I have read, the Hegel with Sonetto has great synergy. Would appreciate your thoughts on amplification as well.
I have the Sonetto II as front speakers and the a Sonetto Centre as centre speaker and as surround speakers Sonetto I also a Gravis II as sub driven by a Denon AVC-X8500H which really sounds superb in stereo as in surround. It just sounds musically. I had many speakers and receivers before and always was listening to speakers. Now with this setup I finally listen to a very musically system.
Another very informative & enjoyable review. Sonus Faber are very stylish speakers For some that might be the deciding factor . Sometimes we " listen " 🎶 with our eyes 👀
I knew they'd be a winner! Thanks so much Terry for that review, can't wait for the next one. Your group tests are the benchmark for me, a great mix of technical and emotional, with some objectivity thrown in for good measure. Now, all I need to do is choose between a pair of these or a new lens for the camera. Why do I have expensive hobbies? Can't wait for next weeks contender and beyond!
Another Solid and comprehensive review. Thank you. However I would have liked you to compare the Sonetto 2 with the Lumina 2 rather than the Lumina 1. In fact I would like to see you do a full review of the Lumina 2. Thank you again I really like your reviews😎👍
Thank you for your hard work and dedication! You're saving me quite a bit of research and i've now got more time, to do what I love doing best.... chilling out and listening to music 😎 cheers mate
Great, easy-going AND informative review! My favorite part was the logo change! 😂😂😂 I am a Dynaudio guy ever so slightly higher up the line and your comparison confirms my listening preferences and my reasons for choosing my Dynaudio speakers. You're on the mark with your assessments in my world and it’s very reaffirming to the equipment choices that I have made along the way on my audio journey.
Having just watched Peter Comeau interview, where he states anything that dips well below 4ohm is unnecessary and basically lazy engineering, I have to agree.
I have my own sonetto ll for one year , its very good to play classical music. The veneer became darker then i bought it. I use Denon pma 1600 to run it. I also try marantz the high frequency more softer than denon, but denon bass is more clearly. Denon 1600 has usb dac input that's what i need, so i keep denon to run sonetto ll till now.
🤗 THANKS TERRY…FOR SHARING THIS WITH US AND ALL YOUR HARD WORK 😓 THEY ARE INDEED A BEAUTIFUL 🤩🤩 looking pair of speakers and hopefully make many people happy 😃 for years to come 😍😍😍
Sounds like an interesting contrast between these speakers. I've heard the Contour twenty and really enjoyed them. They have a rich, energetic presentation. I'm not shocked you feel the Sonetas provide a bit more inner detail though. Having a pair of each to fit your mood is brilliant! You don't come across as Italian enough to have your logo on the dust cover though. No worries. Lot's of good British speakers may give you a chance.
Looking forward to the sound demo. Regarding the JBL 4309, because of their size, I would have expected them to deliver at least as much bass as the Evoke 20 but according to the specs, the JBLs hit 42 Hz at -6 dB while the Evokes hit 40 Hz at -3 dB. How does this play out in real use? The 1.6 kHz crossover frequency on the JBLs is interesting too. Can't wait for your in-room measurements and your take on these 4309.
I appreciate your review(s) very much. Some apparently like the looks of the Sonus Faber line, but I just don't care for that outlining around the tweeter. To me it looks cheap and chintzy. Keep it simple and clean, please. The wood is nice though.
Brilliant review! I realize you aren't trying to sell anything, but I'm sold! I want a pair. To be fair though, I say that a lot. The one concern I have about these, and about most high end speakers actually. Is if they'll work good with less then stellar recordings, or not? The comment about needing to have good equipment worries me a bit. I have the equipment, but that infers they may be a little less forgiving then I prefer. I mainly stream Qobuz, and mainly listen to popular type music. Classic rock mostly, but really everything. So I'm worried about speakers that are too revealing obviously. Either way, these are just gorgeous IMO! And I've always wanted to try a pair of SF speakers. Thank you for the review. ✌️
Best thing to do is try them out but bear in mind you can't move up the speaker food chain and them not be more honest about what you feed into them. Every speaker is the same
I have the Unison Research Unico 150, Integrated amp, would the Sonetto II be a good pair.? I listen to mostly Jazz and folk, folk rock, and acoustic music. Currently, my amp is paired with a KEf R3. I am contemplating upgrading my speakers, to a 4K USD budget. Dynaudio Special Forty, SF Sonetto II, Revel M 106, Spendor Classic 4/5. Standmounts only since I don't have a big space.
Thank you for the great reviews. How does the wharfedale evo 4.2 compare after all the recent speaker reviews? I believe you mentioned that you bought a pair.
Great video as always Terry! Quick question: can the LS50 Metas compete with the Evoke 20’s and Sonnetto 2’s or have we moved up in class? Thank you Sir!
@Pursuit Perfect System Thanks from Germany, great Video! I am really looking forward buying these speakers. Do you think, the Cambridge Audio EVO150 would fit to the Sonetto 2!? I would really like to hear your opinion… Thanks!!!
Dude Terry, Love the look of the SF. so well designed. I had the Evoke 20's and there are very good. I got rid of them. Maybe I should not have. I know somewhere in this Review will be the Kef R3 which I have now. I know its early but I loved the first round and this one even better. Next maybe after winter sets in. Do a tower speaker comparison. Looking forward in the JBL's
Got the Sonetto 3 and used to listen to BW stuffs before, my guess is that it is a little better than 700 series but still under The accuracy of 800 diamond series... An interesting/fair comparaison would be the 804 D3 vs Olympica Nova 2😉 And as I am more used to BW sound it has been a little disapointement at first listen to the Sonetto 3 but with time I start to appreciate the overall SF sound even with the roll-off on the highs 😌
The treble on the SF is unlikely to be rolled off - its probably raised its just being delivered from a silk tweeter its not as sharp sounding but its unlikely to be rolled off
A well implemented quality metal driver does some things a softdome doesn't do as well but a well implemented quality softdome also does some things better, both can be described as a different experience which one could prefer over the other depending on the music. When either aren't up to par, you get a harshness, a glare that mars the experience but these issues even sound different from one another depending on the tweeter material and perhaps the crossover as well.
Do you want to wind down or be wound up... That's a really important point. it's difficult for one system to achieve both. Hence you need two systems:)
Thanks for the review Terry, I've been looking at the Sonus Faber Sonetto range, beautiful looking speakers, I think that I might be going for the Sonetto V floorstander. Have you got a chance to listen to Sonetto V yet Terry?
No mate I haven't but I think I would prefer their floorstanders I think they would tick more of my boxes being a greedy sod for bass and loud noise :) thanks
