Another huge review done perfectly. Thanks bro, loving these speaker comparisons. Fantastic work Terry.
Great job sir! You give us a great deal of things to think about. We really appreciate all your hard work. Thanks, from across the pond.
You've got to be congratulated on the huge effort put forth in this content.
Thanks, it's much appreciated.
Thanks for noticing and appreciating it :)
Fantastic undertaking Terry! Superb job and very much appreciated! You deserve a reviewer of the year award! 👌
Thanks Craig appreciate it :)
Used all my popcorn in watching these videos and I must say very interesting, informative and amusing! Can’t wait to see what’s in store for the future and thank you for making this huge effort! 🙏
Thanks for the kind words and the support I really appreciate it
Very much appreciated effort detailing these options. 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you Terry amazing group testing !!!!
Love your vids Terry, its great work you’re doing! Would be great to see you review some small British monitors like Proac tablette’s, Harbeths, Spendors and ATC scm7s etc
Great approach lots of information packed into your review is much appreciated. So often reviewers spend half the time on nonrelevant topics, promotions off-topic stuff. Thanks again
Cheers in more recent video last 18 months or so I have tried to keep the waffle to a minimum
Very nice, always a pleasure watching your videos Terry.
Appreciate it thanks very much
Thanks Terry, for a considered review of a wide range of speakers at this price range. I get the impression that it took a considerable amount of organisation and effort on your part to create this well presented content. The result is really something you can be proud of, and is a very useful summary for me that I can use as an asset when considering a future upgrade of my Focal Chora 806 stand mounts that I am currently enjoying in a small room where they are 0.75m out from the wall, 1.2m apart, with my listening position 1.2m in front of them. What is interesting is that your overall winner does not seem to be available at this time via dealers in Australia but many of the others included are.
My winner of this test the Arendal is a direct sale to customer company so you would buy them direct from Arendal not through dealers, although they wouldn't be suitable in your setup as they are way too big :)
Thank you som much! the best, most informative and most relevant rewiever on youtube!
Great work. Always appreciate what you do. As a floor standing adherent, im not hugely suprised that a larger box comes out on top, this merely reinforces my own stereotypes! I bet they can belt out some Astrix well, eh!!?
This work will really help people short listing at this price point, and you've done them a huge service.
For weirdos like myself who dont need any speaker (wharfdale evo 4.4s do it all for me), you've also entertained and infomed along the way.
Looking foward to your future content.
amazing video!! CONGRATS!!
Well done, and thank you so much for these monumental comparisons. I always learn so much. Really enjoying my Quad S2's and the Z's seem to share some of the same attributes, just maybe not as refined (glad you gave the quads some love!) Nice to see how all of these might work in different scenarios relative to all your testing. Looking forward to the next one!
Thanks John , appreciate it- I wouldn't let my comments deter from you a demo of the Z2 - they are going to be a better speaker than the S2 but if you prefer them obviously is a different question - always have a demo of course
@@PursuitPerfectSystem Oops…I meant the reverse of what it seemed I was saying pardon me! I wrote that rapidly and didn’t proof..meant to say the Z2’s would be more refined/better by all means. And yes, I’d need to sample them (hope I get to some day). Would consider those an upgrade.
Thank you, thank you - for always getting straight to the main points about their characteristics. I’m glad you don’t use a lot of filler and fluff, and I appreciate your highly developed vocabulary.
Sonus Faber do truly try to make their speakers beautiful. Let's be honest most of us in here are male and we need any speaker we buy pass the "Mrs" test. If it was just up to me I'd buy the best sounding speaker but there is no way the Arendal would get the nod from the boss.
Tekton Moab honey...?

Thanks for a competent and balanced presentation, Terry! Just for the record: The JBL HD1600 has a real compression driver, the patented 2410H-2.
Great work my man!
Just excellent work, love your thorough videos.
Thanks very much Leo
Love your work buddy please keep it up. Can we have some Pmc on the next test. Pretty please

Terry , your voice is most friendly and comfortable to listen to and the big range and varieties of speakers AMP DACs are always best picked , fantastic video , absolutely enjoying your reviews every time I watch , cheers.

I like you Terry Ellis. You do a great job of reviewing speakers. Thank you. Keep up the good work!
Thanks Ken
Thank you so much Terry,, 👍🌟👍
Thanks for the great review, Terry! I would have liked to see (in the line-up of speakers) the superb VFM Q Acoustics speakers, particularly the Concept 50s. Another great little speaker from the company is the (active) M20, priced very reasonably (about $750/pair, give or take).
Fantastic winners, I wonder what you would think of the Arendal 1961 stand mount that I have, great job again Terry, well done 👍👍👍
The 1961 Monitor is a great speaker, I run them in my theater.
Great reviews! ...I was hoping you would include the Totem Skylight.
I did contact them sadly they didn't get back to me
Excellent work, Terry! Since I'm one of the "people" championing the Quad Z2 😀, I would suggest that it would be a great choice for those who like to listen at moderate volumes. At those volumes, I don't hear any roughness in the upper midrange. I just hear stunning clarity.
New Billie Ellish album track 1 give that a spin
@@PursuitPerfectSystem ha yeah 😆
Been enjoying these speaker reviews and roundups.
Are there many overlaps between the three price categories - or are all the £1300/£2K speakers generally an improvement on all the £650/£1300 ones?
Merry new years!
Really useful group test.

Hi Terry thanks for taking time to review speakers in this pricepoint. Can you please inform me what amps and digital front ends you used in your system. Also what cables and mains equipment used Many thanks. Rick Short
Great vid!

... Absolutely essential.....
Great round up 👍🏻
At least one person gets my sense of humour!!! Cheers Marcus
Nice job, Terry! No surprise about the Arendal….Now…we can assume that you will be comparing that to the Buchardt S400 II in the future! 🙃
Was it me…or was that shelf sagging in the middle with all those beautiful speakers on it??? 👍🏼😂
Yeah I got the Mrs to take that photo as literally pit the last speaker on and took it off as quick as ai could I was worried the desk would fail and ruin my life
Never thought I’d hear “grower not shower” on a speaker review.
”Reasonable amount of love…. From me. Too” Terry the master of subtle hints 😂
An excellent exercise!
Nice job 👍
Thanks mate
Please do a review for the smaller Arendal 1723S. I am trying to find out which one to choose.
Love those Sonus Fabers!
Nice video Terry thanks a lot!
What is your methodology when comparing speakers? Do you always have the same placement? Same room? Are the speakers level matched?
I'm asking because the Arendal is bigger and more efficient (89db) vs other speakers like the JBL that are smaller and less efficient (85db).
Did Arendal won the contest because music sounded louder?
Not surprised 😆 I would contend that the slightly smaller Arendal 1723 Monitor S would still be at the top of the list, right under it's big brother.
Lots of speakers available in this category, that being said, I wish the GoldenEar BRX would have been included in this test. Would be interested in your take on the BRX.
Great, great work - really fan-damn-tastic. I love the little dig at that unnamed youtube reviewer. I'll just call him Too Slick.
It wasn't a pop at the person as I dont know them just a sly one at the ridiculously over the top and at times I think disingenuous video titles or thumbnails that I think are at times misleading. Fan-dam-tastic great example
Also I find it a bit odd how someone can review sometimes multiple sets of speakers hifi and home cinema and different amplifiers and maybe a TV or something else in one week. A home cinema system would take minimum a day to setup and minimum 2 days to test and tweak and then compare that doesn't leave many days to do the others and make videos and everything else - its a bit quick hit listen and make a video for my liking
@@PursuitPerfectSystem You're right, of course. I don't know him either and shouldn't have used that nickname. Unwise to post comments while watching sports and drinking trippel.
In my opinion. ...sonetto 2 👌
funny.... great review ,, i thought you were the terry ellis from the jethro tull days//
Hi Dear Terry Ellis. I’m really liking ur reviews - such a help. May I have ur help (yes - it’s ur taste :)) What would be the speaker to buy at around $700 ? And what’s ur thoughts on the Evo 4.1 ? Thanks so much.
Thank you for the in-depth review(s)
I feel a Harbeth would have been good in this test
The most affordable Harbeth is £2500 these days so it was above the limit for the test
Really enjoyed the whole series from start to finnish... Ae300s in the first group test , Atc smc11s second test and the Quads in the last test for me ... the Quads had the biggest impression on me as I thought they sounded beautiful, so much so that I'm gonna demo a pair of their smaller siblings, the S2s for a set up in my bedroom to replace my old Kefs.. any recommendations for a amp under a grand to pair with em... ? .. thanks for all the demos , really great ... what's next then.. 🤔..? cheers. Regards Simon .
Thanks Simon - I really appreciate it - I cant see me doing another group test for a while but I have some cracking bits of kit lined up for the next few months some new brands for the channel and generally some very cool stuff - some very high bits and some nice more entry level too
I have the S2 ina medium sized room and they are beautiful both visually and soundwise. Buy with confidence
Now it is time to test the big boys, the 1723 towers 😉
Superb reviews. Can I ask if you deliberately discounted ATC ? tough crowd to shortlist though I grant you.
I haven't discounted any companies deliberately I contacted as many as I could about this and some included speaker some didn't - ATC included some for my last group test to £1350 because at the time the SCM11 fitted that criteria ruclips.net/video/_ZvBdPHtc3M/видео.html
The SCM19 costs £2300 thats above the criteria for this group test
Interesting content about the JBL speaker terminals. These cheap upward-facing biwire terminals seem to be ubiquitous even in fairly pricey speakers; both my SF Chameleons and ATC SCM7 have them, as did my Piega Classic 5.0. They often have nasty steel nuts on the inside as well. I still can't understand the thinking of having them point up - it just seems to put extra stress on the cable and plugs. Give me a better quality pair of single-wire terminals facing straight out anyday.
Ascend Acoustics Sierra LX or Sierra 2EX should be tested against the Arendal's next. Arendal's are fantastic speakers.
Knew it, I was following a DIY dream theatre build from a guy who had a 7.1 build with all Beyma drivers with 15in LF units even in the surround. When it was time for him to move house and downsize he got the Arendal's
Got a link to that ht build?
@@secretsquirrel2 Search; HT of the Month DIY to the Nth Degree
Beautiful summary. I would save up for Evoke 20, for a muscular presentation.
Buy a active studio Monitor Form dynaudio, really, U will not regret it.
@@Longbranx which one? How much?
BM15A. A bit bigger, super neutral Sound with muuuuch headroom and amazing bass performance. In my opinion even Looks better but i think Most people would not agree. :)
Hi Terry, are the speakers in this group a big step up from the 1300er group in all sound cathegorys?
Maybe you should do a comparison of larger stand mount speaker like the Lynton, Spendor or KLH 5, etc. then you could add the Arendal and declare a runner up in this comparison as the best bookshelf speaker of appropriate size. You got me curios so I looked up their web site and when I found a speaker sized similar to the rest of these reviewed. It was a sealed box with a bass response of 65hz. Their "Bookshelf" sized speaker seemed to be a rebadging of one of theire surround speakers. But then I could be wrong.
They have an S range which is a smaller version of this - by smaller its still a dual 6 inch driver MTM array - the 1723 are priced accordingly and the right category so its fair game as this is what you can buy - I used all speakers on the same stands so that is only really an issue if you have young kids in the house and you want stands that will bolt to the speakers for topple security
Great job and thank you again for doing these reviews. Problem with this group for USA buyers. Quad Z2 nearly impossible to find or demo. Sonus - horrible distribution methodology. The Arendal although great are just way way too big for me as stand/bookshelf speakers. I would just prefer buying floor standing as I never understood the need for bookshelf in large room on massive stands when a floor speaker takes the same space. Just me! For me, I like the KEF R3, Monitor Audio Silver 7g or the MA 100 - Gold. Finally, Revel M106. However, I understand there is no way to test them all and do truly appreciate your effort and the way you truly make it easy to understand and learn.
Arendal do deliver an "s" for smaller-ish model. Might be worth a look.
Over here in Europe it's the same issue with the more unusual Canadian and US brands. hard to source or demo, and the end price ruins any idea of value.
I have sonetto II and i get the dynamics and and bass With the amplifier ! I tried differents amplifiers like atoll in 100, exposure, rotel... and you have to be very prudent with the amplifier because with the rotel the treebles are too shine and i stoped the demo! The accoustic of the room change the song too, it's important i just discovered this last year. I have already bought, focal aria 906 it was not detailled and immersive. The BW 706 s2 was better but Sonus Faber is the champion.
I used a very good amplifier with them and if you compare the Sonetto to the Evoke 20 or Arendal 1723 you will hear where they have limits the other two don't. That's how it is not end of the world
@@PursuitPerfectSystem i already bougth the Dynaudio emit M20 4 years ago, if i remenber it was for the dinamics. And the evoke 20 when i listened i was fan but i didn't have the money ! The arendal i don't know. I am french, in France it's not famous for the moment. My amplifier is the Arcam SA20 ,i bougth 2 years ago. I am curious about Harbet people say the song is natural, i will listen one Day !
I'm comparing different classes and (price) categories maybe but would the Dynaudio Evoke 10 or 20 be a good alternative for the Kef LS 50 Meta? The Meta play very clean and precise but the bottom end is a bit lacking I feel. Up to the point that it isn't in harmony with the mids and treble.
Dynaudio Evoke 20 reigns!
Just for shits and giggles it would be nice if you included the winners of the lower price bracket speakers in your comparison.. thanks for all your hard listening Terry ! 🤙🥑👄🥑🎶
Arendal 1723 Really it has two drivers come on! 🤔
You did a great job up till the end!
They are all the same price, maybe the end is the result is related to the Arendal offering more drivers and a larger speaker for the money. Its called being honest
@@PursuitPerfectSystem It's called not being fair to the other speakers two drivers versus one. There's a lot of two driver speakers in that price range that can compete.
@@gregorybond2859 my allegiance is to the viewer and I showed them 10 different options in the price range and picked one that performed the best for the money. That is being totally fair and I contacted lots of speaker manufacturers to include them. Some said yes and some said no. This is a very good spectrum of what’s available
The companies that said no missed out

How do you like the Wharfedale Evo 4.2 in comparison to say the Dynaudio Evoke 20?
Are any of Polk's offerings for sale in UK or the EU? The L200 would seem at home here.
A: Quad Zee 2 ,or B: Quad Zed 2 ? A: American English... B: English English. Soccer or Football ? Terry is American :) Great review. Amplifiers make a big difference. :)
Kef R3 and Revel M106 would be a welcome inclusion :)
I had the dynaudio evoke 20, but much preferred the revel m106s.
please review the dali oberon 3
Need to add the new Buchardt S400 MKii's to this comparison review!
They were only released right at the end, I did still try but I couldnt make it happen
@@PursuitPerfectSystem Ah, too bad. Maybe make a quick updated video that includes the Bucharest? You do an AMAZING job, btw. I really enjoy your comparisons.
Mas não faltava uma caixa para ser analisada?
No con,s never. It is subjective 👍👍
What's the blurred out speaker?
Sorry bother you, again. I don't know if you have Eltax pwr vintage 1959 or Magnat 1500 or JBL Ti 240... or other JBL speakers. After listening for speakers for the last 4 months, I think the Eltax pwr has weak bass (even having 15 inches woofer for bass), not deep and not extension. I would like your Teacher opinion about what I think. I don't know anything about Speaker, only ohms. May you answer my question or leave a suggestion? I love very deep and extension bass, with very low frequency (I can hear -20Hz). My ear can hear every thing, even - (minus) 20Hz. Thanks for what you can say, please.
What about the Bowers & Wilkins 705S2 ?
shopping online for a pair of hifi speakers is like a blind marriage if you are on a very tight budget
I wish there was a shop where I can listen to many different sets before I buy it
Great enjoyable review ! Yet I’m left with a serious question, what would be your top second pick ? Because no matter how sonically impressive the Arendal are, I’m afraid this pair doesn’t come with the most impressive WAF amongst this serie…
I listed all the second picks after announcing the winner - because like all these things it would depend on your mood and music - I did really enjoy the Evoke 20's they worked well for the bulk of the music I listen to
I know its an difficult topic but i would never spend money into an passive compact. Maybe i‘m not that typical hifi guy that want to experiment with amps, but i prefer active gear since years. Neumann, Genelec, ATC, Abacus… for me the active crossover has more advantages against passive crossovers. specially in small bookshelfs. But thats just my experience after many years of listening.
The Neat Petit Classic is the best speaker I have ever heard.
Highly regarded pair of speakers. I've not heard them but cabinet on the smaller side. so law of physics suggests bass would be limited?
My opinion - is that MAGNAT TRANSPULS 1000 (650 euro) can easily do it all ...
Definitely the arendals would take the win, much more speaker for the money, but id have to say i would like the dynaudios or sonus fabers for keepers id imagine, but would be curious about the arendals, the others im just not really sold on so much, maybe id give the quads listen, but the keepers would be the dynaudios or sonus faber for me, if arendals i suppose id probably just go full floorstander instead.
I would ask what came in second place? The Arendal I'm sure is fantastic, but is really in a different category, too big for a bookshelf.
It's not really a bookshelf, it's a home theater monitor and actually made to pair with subwoofers for best results (high SPLs and punchy). These large LCR monitor designs are better for placement behind a projection screen where a bookshelf would not output enough sound and a tower speaker would be awkward to position.
Hey Terry!Where did the System Audio speaker go???
I explained this at the end of the last review, I ran out of time as I got sick and then had other things scheduled and planned so I didn't get a chance to review them in the time frame I allocated. Its just one of those things, not deliberate, shit happens. I will try and review them at a later date and sorry if you was waiting for that review
🤝
The 1723?! Objectively, the Ministra or Z2 reproduced the best overall sound from all the sound demos.
Not for size scale dynamics bass they didnt
No giveaway? I cant afford these speakers. The only ones I could possibly justify spending $2500 on is the Arendel speakers, but even that is way beyond what I can afford.
The Arendals are better engineered than the other speakers - where it counts. And that results in them being the best sounding speakers of the group.
My long term challenge is to knock up a pair of 4 way floorstanders for £1500ish. And then to hear how they compare to other speakers...
It seems to me that you don't get a lot of engineering content from brand new £2000 retailed speakers, due to overheads, taxes, mark-ups etc.
not sure why you chose that arendal for this comparison when its clearly in a different class all together - no wonder it wins.
comparing to their bookshelf s model in the same series would have been more apples to apples with the rest....
they are all price comparable so this is comparing what you can buy at the same money
Why the wharfedale Linton heritage not in this list ?
I have reviewed them before
Aww no Kef R3 Meta?
17:20. A speaker is blurred out. Elac? What happened?
I sadly was ill for a period of time and ran out of time, so I didnt get to include that speaker - its a shame after such a huge amount of work and time but its one of those things sadly
@@PursuitPerfectSystem shoot. Sorry to hear. Would have been awesome.
Just curious: none of your standmount group tests includes MONITOR AUDIO speakers...and it is a UK brand!....Reason? I have an interest in them and I cannot find any data on your channel about them...Your coverage of this brand is basically non-existent...Your opinion about them is:....? Do you recommends them? Ratio quality/price? Beside that I love your channel and so I was really looking for your reviews of MONITOR AUDIO as I value your opinion, data, evaluation, test,...no review basically...Tell me all about it! Best regards, Olivier Mannie, Belgium
If you look back to my very first videos which are of my system long before I started doing this you will see I owned MA gold and platinum speakers. I like them they are good
Thank you for your fast answer. Also thank you for your feedback on your own MA speakers and the brand. Now, the Gold and Platinum series are way above my price range and so if you could include in the future the Bronze or Radius or Silver series in your reviews that will be great! See you in your next video! @@PursuitPerfectSystem
This is a somewhat unfair comparison because of the disproportionate size of the winners. They may well be unsuitably large for many who are considering the others and therefore unlikely to be in the frame. Its like comparing 9 apples to 1 grapefruit or 9 compact saloons to a medium size SUV. Did you remove the port bungs from the Quads before you tested them by the way?
Please see the review of the Quads ro find out about the bungs and these are all the same price so if someone has that budget these are the options - thats a pretty fair way to do it
I like the idea of those Arendals.
The spiel on the rear however: 'Conceived in Norway, born in China, raised by you.'
😖 Cringe.
Its ok because you only see the back when you plug the cables in... haha :)
No Buchardt S400 / S400 MKII? Seems like it's more a "best speaker under two grand that I could get hold of"
You can look at any situation any way that pleases you if it makes you feel better in trying to be belittling in your comment, there is no need to be an asshole - I had 18 different speakers here at once so maybe yes just the ones I could get hold of - the truth is Buchardt didn't think it was worth entering the S400 because they had a new model coming out, that didn't come out until about 90% of the group test was over so the timing didn't fit.
@@PursuitPerfectSystem Apologies. It was an asshole of a comment. Thanks for the explanation. Maybe it's worth calling out notable absentees in the future and why they are absent.
No worries, I might have been a little over sensitive - across all the videos I have made for the two group tests looking at 18 different speakers I have spoke about this a lot - I also talked about it at the end of this video. I asked the community what speakers they would like included I then contacted all those manufacturers and more. Some said yes some said no for various reasons - I think 18 different options between £1000 and £2000 is covering a lot. Not all of them but a lot enough of a sample to make conclusions as to what is what. The Buchardt S400Mk2 are supposed to be coming here for review but it makes sense they went to Zero Fidelity as he I am pretty has a relationship with Buchardt and helped to get them going initially. Its seems fair and makes sense they went there first.
And what about Canton Vento 30?
Nobody asked me to include them when I asked the community
@@PursuitPerfectSystem I am always too late :))
@@piotrwoowicz5444 haha
