Your review is spot on and are the reason I purchased them. They have absolutely beautiful sound. Soundstage, detail, imaging, bass, etc. So glad I purchsed these, would do it all over again.
@@PursuitPerfectSystem , yes Sir, it was your review that encouraged me to order these speakers 3 days ago and before that I watched your video at least 3 or 4 times already. Thank you for the video, from California.
@@stevehoang5289what you think now? I feel like they’re similar in design to perlistens but for 1/6th the price (or a third of their R series..). I have always thought 2 way or even 2.5 way speakers couldn’t compete with similar quality 3 ways but it looks like I could be incorrect..
@Damon , I bought 4 height speakers from Arendal and regretted from buying those. Big mistake. I paid 3.2K for those height speakers. It's not that the Arendal speakers are no good, but the thing is for those height speakers, all they do were producing ambient sounds, and I should not spend that much money for height or atmos speakers. If I have to do it again, I will buy either Klipsch or SVS for half the price. BTW, I bought 3 JTR RT212 for my LCR channel and I have no regret doing that. So, don't spend too much money on height or atmos speakers, save that money on your front LCR speakers instead. Those JTR front speakers will be my endgame speakers.
@@stevehoang5289 well I think I’d go with the 1961 set for 1600 instead of svs for 1200… and with more and more atmos tracks on streaming I think it would be worth while. For just movies ya. Not worth it. But for a constant signal? I think there’s a point to it. I just got some cheap Polk owm3s and they sound surprisingly good for 180 a pair: we’re 100 a pair a few years back but those days are gone..
i have been waiting so hard for this review, i was only teased with the name and no the model, and now here it is. i am from norway and recently purchased one of their models, same type of speaker as reviewed but the newest and smallest version. the built quality and looks are great at the price point, and the use of HDF wood is something special. the sound is great and stands out i think. a bit edgy top end for a month or so, but really nice after that. i use them nearfuld and they sure brings the dynamic's to another level.
Just picked up a pair of 1723 THX Monitors and testing them against a pair of S400 MKII. So far pretty impressed with the 1723. Thanks for the great review Terry. These are huge but also sound that way.
@@slyfoxx8540 I ended up getting a pair of CSS 1TDX and really like them. I preferred the S400 over the 1723 but it was pretty close. The 1723 had more lower end but gave up some inner detail. I also really liked the highs on the S400.
Kef R7 vs 1723 monitor. About the same cost, I’d really appreciate which one you’d recommend. I’ve watched your reviews of both and would really value your opinion. Thank you and love the videos 👍
🤗 THANKS TERRY …for your TIME AND EXPERIENCE SHARING THIS WITH US AND IT IS VERY HELPFUL TO SOME…who are looking for the qualities that these speakers exhibit 😍😍😍
I've probably watched your review 30 times Terry, lol. I finally pulled the trigger on a gloss white pair from the outlet! My current primary setup has the Dynaudio Evoke 20's in gloss white, so I'll soon see if I feel the same as you sir! Thanks Terry, love these shootouts you do!
Exactly same thought here. I've ordered 3 of these speakers for my front L/C/R and I will receive them at the end of next April. My current speakers are Paradigm Studio 100v5 ,they sounded good but I just want to change to something new.
@@stevehoang5289 update: I'm extremely impressed with the Monitor Speakers! Evoke 20's are now thriving in my desk setup. The dynamics are so spectacular and the build quality and finish is mind boggling for the price! I previously had Revel F208's which are highly regarded in their own rights, but I can confidently say that the 1723 are the better speaker for my needs. I listen to a lot of hip-hop and electronic music and they just excel with this genre! Hope you're just as pleased with yours as I am.
@@JosephTongret , I am just so glad to hear your final judgment about the 1723 speakers, I still haven't received the speakers yet, they said I would get them in April. Yeah, sometimes I just wonder if I am wasting my money, since my Paradigm speakers sound good too, but after hearing your comment I feel much better now. BTW, my wife still didn't know I am spending money on another speakers, she seems doesn't like anything about speakers, home theater. Thanks for your response 👍.
Great review. I'd like to see you review the Ascend Acoustics Sierra LX. It's a phenomenal bookshelf that puts out full bass extension and is in the price category of these speakers. Wish it was in the comparison.
I appreciate the job you've done with this review, Terry. It seems like it was a workout. While I don't think I have a listening space big enough to accommodate these big boys, it's nice to know if that changed I might be able to consider these for music listening as well as home theater. I look forward to your sound demo comparison, but one thing it won't reveal is how they sound as you move around your lisrening area and out of the sweet spot, wich sounds like it may be smaller and more critical than with other designs.
I have a smaller space and didn't care about the size. So glad I bought these ones. If you use them plugged with a sub, make sure you crossover at 80hz.
I’ve got 2 pairs of paradigm studio 100s v3 and a pair of v4s too and a 570c (wish I had a 690)… These would be a no brainer “upgrade” for my taste. I thought they were 2499 each for these and 3699 for the towers but that’s a pair. These are the just as beautiful and well constructed younger siblings to Perlisten imo.. while the later are the super car of the two. But for 10k you can get 8 monitors for the same price of one of their S7t towers. Could do a an exclusive Arendal 7.2.4 setup with power, processing, and some room to spare compared to a pair of theirs. I could go on with the comparisons… haha.. I’d assume this new company meets a short short list for so many looking in this range. Even the 5k a set range. I’d have to test but I’d imagine a pair of 1723 towers would trade blows with the new paradigm mid/high range towers.. think they’re just over 5k a pair for the 100s.. wish I had the hook ups for testing. Thanks for the vid 🍻
Another great review the speakers definitely piquing my interest. I would love to see you review the ASR Emitter One and two integrated amplifier. I am curious to hear your thoughts and I amplifier. It is one that I am heavily considering purchasing.
I'm surprised you didn't compare the 1723 S model instead of the larger 1723. The S model has drivers much more comparable to those of your other choices, Thank you for the excellent review regardless. Well done.
Can you do an Arendal, Burchardt s400mkii, KLH model 5 comparison demo ? I am sure there a quite a few of us wondering how these speakers around the 2K price range would compare.
Terry, I have a set of Dynaudio Contour 20s …and I have been carefully listening & experimenting lately and my perception is that the bass is tighter AND faster with the plugs in the port holes 🕳 🕳 . Thanks for confirming my findings in this review, as you mention the same with these speakers. …so…maybe plugs-in and adding two Rel T/5x subwoofers will give me better cleaner, tighter "extended" bass…hmmm…🤔
Be careful with that bob - Arendal say the 1723 are designed to be sealed speaker first and then vented second. I dont know if every manufacturer thinks like this, I doubt they do. Bunging the ports will likely roll the bass off a lot steeper so it might be reducing some bass ringing your getting at a certain frequencies causing the bass to sound slow because its lingering in the room. This is where measuring really helps to work out what is what - I could be wrong on both accounts - but naturally do what sounds best
@@PursuitPerfectSystem I have a LOT of power driving The Contours…so I still seem to have a LOT of bass with the plugs in…and it’s definitely tighter and faster….but I will heed your caution and keep listening before doing anything rash! 😯, (can you fly across the pond and take some measurements for me! 😬).
Love this review and am buying a pair of the Arendals. Thank you! A completely separate question: where can I get sound panels like you have behind you? Thanks so much.
I wonder how the Arendal 1723 compared to the Amphion Two18 studio monitor which is 3 times the price. If you can, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do a comparison video!!🙏
No winner yet of course but a strong contender if you like a direct sound kind of speaker - the Z2 are really nice in the hands, they have a really unusual curved shaped too
Terry! Love the fine videos.. I am tossed up between these and monitor audio silver 500. they cost about the same!!! has anyone done any comparisons? Would love some feedback from absolutely anybody who might know. Listen to a lot of rap, synth heavy music, electronic, pop, alternative, rock, grunge, amy winehouse. lol Love a full and dynamic sound, loud and in charge with authority.
Great review...I myself am interested in getting these. I currently have the Dali Oberon 7's which I've had in less than a year. Would these be considered a wise upgrade or should I just stick to my Dali's? Thanks.
They might go louder but better, who knows. You can order them and try them out for 60 days. If you like them that much, you can sell the Oberon 7's or just send them back. Contact Arendal, they are very nice people who can explain everything. The finish is insane on every Arendal but the flagship are a bit extra for detail. If you don't have a subwoofer then I would suggest to upgrade this in your system. People think Subwoofers are dumb boom baskets but that's not with these subs! It let you hear things you never heard before in music.
@@johnlim7720 nice! Then you know what I'm talking about. Subs can be do nice in a system if you calibrate them to integrate with your system. And how is the sound compared to the Oberon 7's? @@Kwarkiemodo I'm not a trained listener but to me the Arendals just sound more dynamic. Plus the build is just top notch. These babies are heavy!!! Got the Arendal 1723 Tower S while I got the bigger 1723 Monitors for the Center.

I've had an interest in Arendal towers but am afraid of buying before listening. I know they have a good trial policy but I'm also shopping for integrated amplifiers at the same time. I think like most people, not having a live audition may be an issue, especially when you want the best amp match up. As usual, Terry does a great job. I live in Toronto. I'm hoping that in the very near future that I may see and hear them either at a show or dealer.
I think if your shopping for both speakers and an amplifier get the speakers first and get an amp that works best for them for you. Different if you have maybe already heavily invested in amplification
@@PursuitPerfectSystem Terry, thank you for being so generous to your fans. I started my search 18 months ago thinking all along that I would buy our Canadian brand Paradigm Prestige Series towers. And team them up with a Yamaha A-S2200. Did not care for the Prestige sound. Then my dealer thru at me comparable B&W 700 series and Monitor Audio silver. Neither to my liking. Last effort he had me listen to Focal Aria towers. I liked them. Now I'm in a different direction. So I stepped up looking at French and Italian brands. So far Triangle Signature Delta are my favourite. I have 2 more that I want to listen to. Sonus Faber Sonetto 5 & 8. Plus one more shot at paradigm new Founder Series 80 & 100. Do the Arendal 1723s sound lean towards the Italian and French brands or more towards B&W and the others I mentioned. As well my dealer is touting the Rotel RA-1592 mkii integrated as a versatile alternative to the Yamaha A-S2200. What are your thoughts on that? I'm confident just on pure sound reproduction that the Yamaha would be far superior. I'm not concerned about price. I'm good up to 10k for 2 towers and 5k for the integrated amp. I'm only interested in 2 Channel music. I have 2 rooms. One exclusively for home theatre and gaming. The other only for music. I find it insane the level in which one has to go through to get the positioning absolutely perfect to get the highest quality sound possible. You even mentioned that you thought that you still didn't get it right....and you're the audiophile/expert! I came back to this video after seeing that this speaker won your shootout. Honestly it is frustrating from an enthusiast standpoint watching a pro like yourself with the best accompanying equipment most can dream about basically struggle to get the best sound out of these. You made it sound basically impossible for the average Joe tbh. I really do appreciate your videos and watch frequently. I guess I needed to voice my frustrations ❤️🙏
Its not impossibe just took a bit of work that is made harder because the speaker is large and heavy. I didnt have the dedicated stands that put the speakers at a slight angle this could have been a lot to do with it. These are excellent speakers once dialled in
How do they compare to Ophidian Audio Mojo 2 when it comes to soundstage & highs, I have narrowed it down to these two speakers. Would appriciate your thoughts on this. Thanks.
5:45 Did you tilt them the 2,5° backwards? If not it could be the reason for the spiky timing. Because of the tweeter-horn the base of sound (literally the voicecoil) could be not in line so the upper chassis have to be set a little backwards (literally tilting the box). This is often the case when a mid or mid-base speaker is placed over the tweeter.
Hi Terry, you have reviewed the Wharfedale Elysian as well. I have the Wharfedale Elysian 2 and like to know if the Arendal 1723 come anywhere close in SQ to the Elysians? I also have the Elysian Center and some Wharfedale Evo 4S as rears. But Wharfedale has no ceiling/height speakers and no subwoofer in the Elysian series. So I am wondering if the Arendal 1723 series can match or come close to the Elysians. I also use my speakers for stereo music listening (with a REL S/510 and Musical Fidelity Nu-Vista amp, which both I believe you know as well). Would appreciate your reaction/opinion.
You know what this came up when I was with Wharfedale recently, I have not reviewed the Elysian and I have never even listened to them. Peter C the main man designer has told me how wonderful they are but its pure speculation for me at the mo. I dont know about how the Arendal but knowing how Peter designs speakers they will likely more musical sounding compared to Arendal which are chasing more traditional flat freq response neutrality. For heights you can use any speakers with any if you know how to set systems up well, especially if you have something like Dirac. For subwoofers the same - they dont need to match, buy the best performance subs you can for your money and set them up well.
The 1723 are becoming quite popular for Home Theater systems in USA. I was susrprised they were included in your group comparison, as they are not considered audiophile speakers. However neither are the JBLs 4390. I am quite lookiing forward to the sound demo Terry. Please bring it on ASAP. I've been quenching my thirst for sound demos with those from across the channel, specifically a well respected Dutch site. Now your demo set up are more 'real world', and differences are far easily more distinguishable. All this to say, I need your demos Terry. Thanks always.
the Arendal sound nice and clean in the vocals, they dont have quite the same character as the AE, you would need the character you want from your amp and a lot of solid state amps dont have much vocal character, until they start to get a little more expensive but it depends of course, you could add the character in other ways too
I have the SVS ultra system two towers, center channel, two bookshelves for side surrounds. I drive my speakers with an Xmc 2 emotiva processor which has dirac live and the Xpa 7 200 watts to 8 ohms by 7 channel and 390 watts to 4 ohms by 2 channels I’m not sure what the 4 ohm rating would be to 7 channels. I’m considering going to Arendal for two towers, center channel, and two monitors in the 1723 thx 8” versions. I know from watching audioholics they are technically closer to a 6 ohm speaker even though Arendal calls them 4 ohms. How much in volume and sound quality do you think I will gain?
Not sure about the distance from the wall, maybe ask them about that - remember for stereo we are always more fussy, multi channel less fussy and high frequency lift can be a good way to balance a lot of HC bass so it might be there on purpose. But again the benefit of Dirac is the same for all - if its an issue manage it
The Speakers are so Big and I believed that were focused to home cinema, to combination with subwofer .On other hand I have roksan k3 ampli. Would be good partner at size room 12 square meters ?
So many reviewers say these are "more for home cinema". That is completely false. I use mine in a 2.1 system only and they are incredible. Terry was absolutely correct, you would think the two 8" drivers would be bass heavy BUT they are not at all. Very accurate and dynamic. Yes, they will also work well for home cinema.
I think as long as long as comparisons are made in the same price range it's all fair game, obviously it's not fair comparing a 1k speaker to a 10k one 😀
I appreciate this group test greatly. I don’t quite know what you mean with getting the phase right or sounding phasey. How do you go about getting that right? Is it just toe in or hight or something else?
I own these speakers. I keep the tweeters at ear height or close. They are toed in at approximately 30 degrees. 15degrees worked well and so did no toe in. It seems from what Terry was saying, if the sound a little higher on the top end than you like, toe them in. It's a matter of taste.
@@lights80088 His hands actually suggested "toe out" when he said toe in and that is standard advice for bright speakers and other reviewers also recommend to "toe out" these speakers.
Look at the crossovers in the SVS (they don't all use the one they show on their website) and compare it to the Arendal 1723 THX Monitors. The Arendals use much better topology.
This speaker reminds me of my own ProAc EBTs. The driver arrangement is nearly the same, but the ProAc EBTs have smaller drivers and utilize a single port. The smaller drivers make them faster responding, but the 1723s will dig deeper. A speaker needs a sturdy and dampened stand to address your ear at tweeter height and disappear acoustically. These have heft so the top plate of your stand should address around 60% of your speaker’s footprint to give it a stable base. A countersunk trio of holes filled with chromed ball bearings will be provide both a stable platform and do an excellent job of removing the excess energy off the speaker so the listener can benefit from the lack of smear caused by this excess energy not being addressed. Most stands are not substantial and this speaker will not tolerate a weak stand. These speakers deserve the best stand you can get. Certainly don’t want an unstable stand with nearly $3K speaker pair sitting on top of them. Each must choose their own gear, but a poor stand makes a great speaker sound like crap. If the stand is untreated, the speaker sounds like garbage. Time spent treating everything makes it sound it’s best. The stands and their treatment makes your experience a positive one. Stay safe mates!😊👍🏻😷
Larger drivers don’t automatically mean faster as a larger woofer doesn’t have to move nearly as much as a smaller woofer. Requiring woofers to play higher frequencies is usually what separates speakers. It’s usually preferred to cross over the tweeter as low as possible for the best directivity and sound quality.
@@Cujobob, I’m afraid you misunderstand. The ProAc EBT is a mini monitor with 3/4” silk dome tweeter and two 4” mid woofers. It’s by no means a large speaker. Rather heavy for as small as it is. It is best crossed over to a subwoofer below 88 hz to open the sound up. It is down hard below 70 hz. When they are freed of low frequencies, they open up as do most speakers with such small drivers as used here. Less mass equals faster. That is just physics and math.
@@markphilpot8734 the crossover frequency is 1500 hz on these Arendal speakers, so the woofers aren’t tasked with playing particularly high. A lighter weight cone still can’t compete with an upper frequency driver that plays so low. Generally speaking, I prefer my upper frequency driver to play as close to or below 1000Khz as possible. What is the crossover frequency of those EBTs? I’m not able to Google it.
@@markphilpot8734 it’s all good! Just food for thought when you look at speakers is to consider how high they expect the woofers to play. IMO 1.5K is still a bit too high for me. In fact some of the highest resolution I’ve ever witnessed is from a compression driver in a massive waveguide crossed over to a 15” woofer around.. I think 800 hz.
If I upgraded to the Arendal 1723 THX towers, center, monitors for sides do you think that would be a huge upgrade from the SVS ultra towers, center, and sides? I don’t want to upgrade and less they play louder with more clarity.
@@dan_hitchman007I know klipsch are bright I had them before the Svs Ultras. Svs are known to be on the warm side from everything I heard before buying them. After owning them I would definitely agree that they are a warm speaker and withheld in the treble range most of the time. I now have JTR 212HTR monitors for LCR with 110’s for surrounds and 2 2400 Captivators for subs. After this move I haven’t looked for different home theater speakers since. I’ve never heard more realistic full bodied sound that never has me ask if their warm or bright. Their perfect. They are not pretty gloss speaker but have kind of a muscle car larger than life aesthetic that lets you know there isn’t any speaker out there that could overtake their greatness. With the move to the JTRs I finally looked for the biggest baddest center channel and then built around that. In my opinion, the center channels, dialogue, output, and clarity along with your subwoofers ability to supply bass more powerful than you would ever use are the main reason for wanting to try different speakers. This center channel makes you feel as if the actor is in the room and never has you leaning forward to hear what they said without ever maxing out the speaker’s abilities. These speakers kill any speaker that I’ve ever heard in all of those departments. I know I sound like I’m gloating but if you really want to be happy, I would give them a try. At that point all things will be right with the world.🤣
@@PursuitPerfectSystem i’m trying to decide between fyne audio f501sp and arendal 1723 thx monitor. i know there’s big price difference. however i think the deal breaker would be their low volume listening attribute.
Can you feel a kickdrum in your chest from those Arendals? I'm curious because I listen to a lot of rock and metal and have been considering them. It of course doesn't have to hammer hard, but at least a little bit.
You probably need subwoofer augmentation. These really are monitor speakers and they are normally pared with one or more subwoofers for a complete sound stage.
I have 5 of these on 300w amps and svs pb3000 and they are monsters. I have their new heights on order to replace my svs elevations because they don't keep up with the arendal
If you're comparing the Evo 4.2 which are also large monitors, the Arendal are much more expensive and being sold direct by the manufacturer, they likely have a higher build cost. When it comes to sound signature it's probably a lot down to personal preference.
I used Atacama Nexxus - the new XX ones but I think you would be better off with a more substantial stand for these, probably the Arendal made stands are ideal but a little toppy on price
@@PursuitPerfectSystem As far as I am aware, Arendal stopped making the stands for these. Not enough interest for the added price. They've said just buy third party stands or make your own.
A new take on the B&W DM602 S3 perhaps? I've often wondered why B&W never made another Big standmount after this one. After demoing the ATC SCM 11 last month (blew my DM601's out of the water but the lack of an effective dust cover was the deal breaker) I'm looking at alternatives. The Dynaudio Evoke 10/20 are very much on my radar and after looking up the dimensions I've just realised the Arendal's will be too big or my setup - 40 cm deep! The S version of these is a more manageable 32cm deep and £350 cheaper. Hmmm, might have to put their home demo to the test...
@@bobb.9917 yup, dust covers. My room is a dust magnet so I have to clean it every couple of days. The ATC drivers have a sticky coating which would probably get filthy after a few years of use. Not willing to take the chance given how much I'm looking to spend.
great review, I don’t want to sound like a jerk, but I’m thinking… instead of buying the stands just go for towers, plug the ports if in a smaller room maybe
Definitely floorstanders over floormounts + stands any time any day. There isnt a thing that floormounts have over floorstanders besides space only in certain situations. Gotta love a great floorstander!
@@Dpro78 i personally have not experienced any problems with large speakers in a small room, in fact I prefer it. Lol! If bass gets boomy and overwhelming, plugging the ports would solve it almost everytime, and plugging the ports in most cases can be a very good thing. Thanks in advance, best regards Jochen 😀
They give you 60 days home trial and arrange for them to be shipped back - there is a fee for this but that is understandable. - There is a more present treble with these than the Evoke 20 as I said in the review but how present that is will depend on a lot of factors like source, dac amp, room acoustics and the speakers setup. Hard to say best to listen to them if you can - I appreciate its a big package though

You already Said that the arendals Sound brighter. But ist the treble fatiguing or harsh in Any ways? Ive hot a Cambridge axr100 wich is more on the neutral Side.
They are revealing as Terry said but I do not find it at all fatiguing. These speakers will reveal everything in your recording. Good recordings sound excellent. Crappy recordings sound, well, just crappy. I listen to jazz and new age. Can't say much for rock music, rap or other types. I have these speakers plugged and originally had them crossed over at 63Hz (SVS sub). That is what I found fatiguing. When I set the sub to 80hz, it all worked together without issue. The bass also became directional at the 63hz crossover point when the bass went really low.
Gonna be honest. The fact that the 1723 line has no plastic parts whatsoever is a HUGE selling point for me. I hat the idea of spending 2 or 3 grand on a set of speakers that're half plastic. There should be no plastic on a pair of $3,700 tower speakers. None. Ever.
Every time I see these, all I can think of is the speaker-salesman scene with Judge Reinhold in Ruthless People. ruclips.net/video/19CvEO3Riy0/видео.html

@@PursuitPerfectSystem thx, but I'm still confused...Paul, said linear response means clinical, cold, sterile sound like all B&W's produce..(his words not mine)
i did not interpret Paul's statement that way but this way: microphone measured flat in room response is awful. either way it won't matter what speakers frequency response is if you got dsp. and that you need for any speaker once you place them in a room, and account for your own hearing.
@@sudd3660 interestingly most microphones are not flat a lot of them have a treble lift and other characteristics- its only really measuement microphones that are flat normally omni which noone would use for recording
Isn’t THX certification just a con? Maybe I’m wrong but I thought pretty much anyone can get a THX certification to allow them to use the THX symbol if they pay for it. I’ve seen real cheap crappy audio items that are labelled THX, items that obviously have no credible audio or construction quality.
THX ultra is a stringent set of criteria a product has to meet. Pretty sure they would have to pay to have the product tested and they probably have to pay to use the certificationon top of that but its def not a con.
@@PursuitPerfectSystem Well I read some years ago that it had become nothing more than a licensing dollar con. I’ve seen crappy $50 audio products labeled with the THX certification. They do, I have those at home. For a living room I would always go with the towers as they still offer a slight benefit when used without sub and no need to worry about a speaker stand that’s not going to look great due to the sheer size of the monitor. Also once factoring in the added cost of the stands the difference in price with the towers is not that big anymore.
@@dazaudio2131 which is why you should go with the 1723 floorstander for a living room situation. That’s what I did. And I think they are even a bit better still. But for the monitor the “target” customer may have a dedicated home cinema in a separate room. Then these monitors suddenly make very good sense I think.
Thats most companies not just Arendal for pretty obvious reasons- electricity and gas has gone up 50%+ and then more coming soon. Shipping costs wood costs all costs have gone up. If you wanted them you should have bought them before the price increaes but its how the World is right now sucks i agree but nothing can do about it
@@PursuitPerfectSystem Just went with the Wharfdale evo 4.2, partly on your recommendation, for US$999. I did forget about the crazy energy costs, so thanks for reminding. All my reviews are spot on Tom but thanks for noticing 💪👍😅

I just got some cheap Polk owm3s and they sound surprisingly good for 180 a pair: we’re 100 a pair a few years back but those days are gone..
Great review Terry!!I dont think that there is another speaker in this category that has more awards than Arendal 1723 Monitor!!!
i have been waiting so hard for this review, i was only teased with the name and no the model, and now here it is.
i am from norway and recently purchased one of their models, same type of speaker as reviewed but the newest and smallest version.
the built quality and looks are great at the price point, and the use of HDF wood is something special.
the sound is great and stands out i think. a bit edgy top end for a month or so, but really nice after that. i use them nearfuld and they sure brings the dynamic's to another level.
Just picked up a pair of 1723 THX Monitors and testing them against a pair of S400 MKII. So far pretty impressed with the 1723. Thanks for the great review Terry. These are huge but also sound that way.
Would love to hear your conclusions! I currently own a S400 MKII and I’m interested in the 1723 :)
And what are you're thoughts now?
@@slyfoxx8540 I ended up getting a pair of CSS 1TDX and really like them. I preferred the S400 over the 1723 but it was pretty close. The 1723 had more lower end but gave up some inner detail. I also really liked the highs on the S400.

@@stevehoang5289 I picked up 2 from the outlet. They made an error and only sent one, but hopefully this week the other one will be here.
Everything arendal sound makes is... big.. i love my 1723 sub 😍
Great review. I'd like to see you review the Ascend Acoustics Sierra LX. It's a phenomenal bookshelf that puts out full bass extension and is in the price category of these speakers. Wish it was in the comparison.
Excellent review mines come tomorrow can't wait

I'd like to compare those to my ATC SCM 19v2 which are my current reference, which are also larger stand mounts. They are also over 2x the cost.
I am sure there a quite a few of us wondering how these speakers around the 2K price range would compare.
it is important to me to have 5ft to 6ft singer a lot of audiophile systems have squashed sound stage.
great vedio do u think the arendel towers suit my anthem mrx740 mainly for music listening ty .
Ooh thanks for letting us know where the tweeters are from, I thought SB Acoustics. Also the midbass look very similar to Peerless

Excellent informative review! I have a questioni: how would you describe the tonality of these speakers? Warm, neutral or analytical/dry? Thanks a lot
Neutral - flat freq response, reasonably analytical but not dry - get the amp and setup right and great results are possible

Terry, thank you for being so generous to your fans.
Absolutely your professional suggestions of any other brands are welcome.
We're stuck with strict COVID-19 restrictions in Toronto and it's not convenient or easy to schedule time to travel from dealer to dealer.

That is possible, and no I didn't apply a specific tilt as the speakers were already at ear height not below
I do not tilt mine and have no issues with the sound being affected.
Hi Bro " Iam Currently using Atc Scm19 speakers as Main speakers for Home theatre with C3C" Will this Arendal Performs similarly
Are these good for low level listening, like late at night?
If you research them in depth, you may think different about them "not being audiophile" speakers.
What stands are you using for the 1723 monitors?
@PursuitPerfectSystem thanks for review. How do you think 1723 Floorstanders compared to Klipsch RF-7 iii?
I haven't listened to either to say sorry
They seem like they would have a very small sweet spot, but being home theater speakers I suppose a center channel is assumed to be a given.
Not small sweet spot overall just depends on how flat you want things in one small area of the treble
Will a receiver like a Marantz 8015 be able to drive these efficiently or a pre-pro setup? Home theater use, also maybe the 1723 S
At 4 ohms, I would expect you need an outboard amplifier to get them to sing.
hi, do you remember the vocals of the Arendals are as good as from the acoustic energy ae500 ?
the Arendal sound nice and clean in the vocals, they dont have quite the same character as the AE, you would need the character you want from your amp and a lot of solid state amps dont have much vocal character, until they start to get a little more expensive but it depends of course, you could add the character in other ways too
Do you know how Arendal compares to a JTR system. Really want to know spending extra for the JTR is worth. Please help.
It depends on the size of your room, how far back you sit, and the SPLs you need. The upper level JTR's are beasts.
This is on my list!!!
AS THE OLD SAYING GOES "THERE IS NO REPLACEMENT FOR DISPLACEMENT."
Its a saying for a reason yes 😀
As they say, "go big or go home".
Wouldn't that off axis response be a problem for home cinema? Also, how far from the front wall would you recommend with the ports open? Thanks!
Not sure about the distance from the wall, maybe ask them about that - remember for stereo we are always more fussy, multi channel less fussy and high frequency lift can be a good way to balance a lot of HC bass so it might be there on purpose. But again the benefit of Dirac is the same for all - if its an issue manage it
When will you review the Quad Z2?
The Speakers are so Big and I believed that were focused to home cinema, to combination with subwofer .On other hand I have roksan k3 ampli. Would be good partner at size room 12 square meters ?
So many reviewers say these are "more for home cinema". That is completely false. I use mine in a 2.1 system only and they are incredible. Terry was absolutely correct, you would think the two 8" drivers would be bass heavy BUT they are not at all. Very accurate and dynamic. Yes, they will also work well for home cinema.
shouldn`t there be a comparison also on a higher db volume
Thank you for those great reviews! For me it seems a bit unfair bc the 1723 has two woofers. How would the 1723s compare to the others here?
Great review! I've got my eye on Arendal. Does SVS compete with these at all or are these at a whole other level?
I think they are skinning the same kind of cat in their own unique way, That is all I can say
Arendal wipes the floor with SVS
Svs midrange is a big let down, sounds like a pillow case is over the vocalist’s head
@@Cujobob, the brochure I still have doesn’t list the crossover point. I will see if I can find out on their website.
The SVS Ultras are known to be a bit on the bright and sparkly side in the treble range. These would be a little bit less zippy.
At that point all things will be right with the world.🤣
Do you think they could be placed on the floor with a backwards tilt? Or is that treble driver too low 🤔
I think likely too low and trying to support these at the steep an angle would be a challenge -
Absolutely don't do that.
Can I ask why you didn't use the 1723 bookshelf speaker, it would be closer in design to the other speakers in the test.

I have their new heights on order to replace my svs elevations because they don't keep up with the arendal
nice
Sooo 1723S's or Wharfdale EVO's?
If you're comparing the Evo 4.2 which are also large monitors, the Arendal are much more expensive and being sold direct by the manufacturer, they likely have a higher build cost. When it comes to sound signature it's probably a lot down to personal preference.
How well were enclosures damped?
Its hard to say but if you tap the cabinet it feels very innert which is I think the benefit of HDF
They have 3/4" in. side panels and 1" front baffle as well as the speaker bottom being 1". Very well damped. When you lift them you'll agree.
question which Stand you use foir these monster ?
I used Atacama Nexxus - the new XX ones but I think you would be better off with a more substantial stand for these, probably the Arendal made stands are ideal but a little toppy on price
@@PursuitPerfectSystem thanks
Yeah they are Behemoths
Dust Cover? 😄
@@bobb.9917 yup, dust covers. My room is a dust magnet so I have to clean it every couple of days. The ATC drivers have a sticky coating which would probably get filthy after a few years of use. Not willing to take the chance given how much I'm looking to spend.
I use these "plugged" with a SVS sub (80hz crossover) and they sound excellent.
great review, I don’t want to sound like a jerk, but I’m thinking… instead of buying the stands just go for towers, plug the ports if in a smaller room maybe
Maybe yes that could be a way to go
Definitely floorstanders over floormounts + stands any time any day. There isnt a thing that floormounts have over floorstanders besides space only in certain situations. Gotta love a great floorstander!
@@AbsoluteFidelity those 1723 towers look mighty, room size could be a problem…
@@Dpro78 i personally have not experienced any problems with large speakers in a small room, in fact I prefer it. Lol! If bass gets boomy and overwhelming, plugging the ports would solve it almost everytime, and plugging the ports in most cases can be a very good thing. Get a wee bit less deep bass but in return you get a very fast, precise and tout midbass.
@@AbsoluteFidelity did you mean standmounts?
Hi Terry, i d rather buy the 1753s towers....but i can Not listen to them.....and Sendung them Back ist quite komplicated 80 kg and big package. So i ask you If i can Go wrong Not buying the evokes 20 and buying the Towers from arendal. The evokes i really Liked with the Not fatiguing highs. Are the highs with the arendals fatiguing? Thanks in advance, best regards Jochen 😀
They give you 60 days home trial and arrange for them to be shipped back - there is a fee for this but that is understandable. - There is a more present treble with these than the Evoke 20 as I said in the review but how present that is will depend on a lot of factors like source, dac amp, room acoustics and the speakers setup. Hard to say best to listen to them if you can - I appreciate its a big package though
@@PursuitPerfectSystem thanks A Lot. You're the only one that has Reviewd them for music. Before your Review i didnt know of them. And IT seams to bei the better package with the arendals. I think i ll try them. Thank you again😁🤗💁
@tom Boyd: thanks dir your coment
Gonna be honest. The fact that the 1723 line has no plastic parts whatsoever is a HUGE selling point for me. I hat the idea of spending 2 or 3 grand on a set of speakers that're half plastic. There should be no plastic on a pair of $3,700 tower speakers. None. Ever.
"Tee Haych Ecks" LMAO!!! "Haych"
Can you guys please review Totem speakers?
2:57 😂 😂
Looks a lot like Amphion PRO TWO 18 monitors. Which is the choice of Billie Eilish brother Finneas O'Connell.
That might explain a few things haha cheers
When you do the sound demo, please don't use Dirac
Then you will hear too much room and too heavy bass
Every time I see these, all I can think of is the speaker-salesman scene with Judge Reinhold in Ruthless People.

7 min 20sec...Paul McGowan of PS Audio, has stated any speaker with a flat linear response will sound awful...but here you are saying the opposite...I'm getting confused ?
I think all sounding awful is an untrue - different to what he thinks is good possibly true - such is the way of things.
@@PursuitPerfectSystem thx, but I'm still confused...Paul, said linear response means clinical, cold, sterile sound like all B&W's produce..(his words not mine)
@@DrBroncanuus it can do yes if its totally ruler flat from top to bottom that is not the case here. Bowers don't measure flat either haha
i did not interpret Paul's statement that way but this way: microphone measured flat in room response is awful.
either way it won't matter what speakers frequency response is if you got dsp. and that you need for any speaker once you place them in a room, and account for your own hearing.
Maybe it’s something you could research and clarify in a video. Personally I don’t give it any credibility having seen plenty of audio rubbish THX labeled. Possibly those items were using the THX symbol illegally.
@@aussie8114 There wont be many labelled THX ULTRA
There are 67 speakers rated for THX ULTRA Certification that is it www.thx.com/product-finder/
@@PursuitPerfectSystem The old cynic in me still thinks it’s more about royalty dollars, but then again I think the same of MQA so I guess I’m just an old cynic. I have absolutely no doubt many products displaying the lovely gold THX symbol are great products, but are they great products because of the THX symbol or are they great products regardless of it.
Not home theatre speakers guy!
why didnt they just make a floor standing speaker, these things are huge.
The FS are even bigger :)
@@BenSietze the main thing that puts me of these is that they look would look ridiculous on 90% of the stands out there.
They may be big but this is part of why they sound so good. For me, a speakers size really doesn't matter as long as they sound as good as these do.
25% price increase in less than 9 months . No thanks.
I used to live in Germany a few years ago and it cost me over $3,000 to fill my heating oil tank for one season. I can't imagine having to pay $10,000 now.
