I always enjoyed how they showed what the village was like before the madness during the credits. The added context from Rodrigo's journal makes this even more interesting. What a tragic fate that has fallen on these people.
Less tragic than I imagined. I thought all the kids were killed by the adults.
@@NukeA6 That was my headcannon for it too. But considering that the Plagas are capable of popping out the skulls of their victims, no wonder the poor kids died from the infection. But there's also piles of bodies of villager corpses in the OG game too, showing not all of them took to the Plaga, or resisted it or whatever.
@@NukeA6 There are some childrens' bones in the first house in the original that Leon comments on.
RE4's credits sequence is truly iconic due to how tragic and sad it is. You just kicked Saddler's butt and killed a bunch of ganados and then the game makes you actually feel bad for killing these villagers.
@@EvilLordCanas The image with the guy playing the guitar really hits home. I hope they don't change it for the remake (if that's any good).
Another cut line of dialogue is after Leon and Ashley jump into the giant trash pit and Leon says something like "I knew you'd be fine if you landed on your butt."
lol, wow those devs are snowflakes.
It's a trash line
...I'll see myself out
@@lpnp9477 Yeah lines like that aren't flirty or cute, they're just plain cringey. Not offensive in the sense that they're mean-spirited, offensive in the sense that they're just dumb. That line' not even cheesey dumb, just bad, and it doesn't even fit too well in the setting and moment. Lines like that and the post credit scene only stand to be improved with rewrites, and indeed apparently the post credit scene is actually a good conclusion now instead of the unfunny "joke" it once was

I've always thought that we Spanish speakers have an advantage when playing Resident Evil 4, since we knew perfectly well when they called us "imbéciles" behind our backs lol.
They called me that so much I thought it was my name growing up
I love how some enemies literally say 'behind you, stupid' right before stabbing you with farm equipment, like if Leon only understood the language he'd have prevented several deaths i died from lol
But it also confused the hell out of me whenever they mixed past tense verbs with present tense verbs and the sentences didn't make any sense at all.
I know spanish is hard, but that's what professional translators are for. It was a different time indeed.
As a Spaniard i always laughed at the very, very Latin American accents all over "somewhere in Europe." Luis sounds straight up Mexican.
@@lpnp9477 And what do you think about the names of the monsters? What kind of name is Del lago? Or Novistador? And Garrador? El Gigante at least make sense thou is the less imaginative name to give this creature? And the name of the village is Pueblo?!?
it might sound weird but im glad they didnt do a “the kids all left the village” scenario for the explanation and instead they went for the most messed up reason they could conjure up. its a lot more interesting and sickening
What kind of dumbass explanation would “the kids left” be? Unless you were to then add a mission to save them. But as a piece of lore it sounds so idiotic i dont even know why you would think these people that make horror games for a living would ever say that
@@ULAER capcom have written stupid shit before, its not beneath them lol
@@ULAER Because kids are almost always off limits, even in horror media. It's a huge taboo to kill even a single child, let alone an entire village. Usually in these kind of scenarios, the kids either just disappear or they never existed in the first place, and it's never acknowledged in any way whatsoever. In the rare case they do kill a kid, it's almost always a singular kid related to the protagonist and it's almost always used for shock value or to give them a tragic past.
@@leetri yeah this is sort of what i was getting at, i couldn’t really find the words to say it. i admire that they didnt pussyfoot around it even if jt wasnt in the game or done retroactively, which was most likely the case
@@ULAER so much contempt lmao, and for what? This minor point on a minor comment? They’re not even wrong, media pulls punches like this all the time
Honestly I know I’m overstepping here but trying so hard to belittle someone and distance yourself in intelligence from them over such a minor point is so gross, and really shouldn’t make you happy
I don't even get why the "somehow I thought you would look a little older" line was cut out. Her name is freaking Ingrid, it's legitimately the only time I've ever seen anyone under 80 years old with that name and it has nothing to do with being flirty it's literally just talking about how her name is associated with being held by elderly women.
For me it was like, we are on a mission to rescue the president's daughter. I'm expecting the best of the best agents with lots of experience like Leon who survived an apocalyptic event. Then Ingrid well, she looks way too cute and young to look like a veteran, you know... like a 24-25yr or something.
Because the 1% of woke morons wants to control everythat else that the 99% comes in contact with.
Presidents daughter has ballistics? NO NO NO
Drag queens twerking infront of kids? YES MORE PLEASE DADDY!
There's bound to be someone out there who is highly offended by that line for, uh, some reason or another. Gotta make sure, in a gory game where you slaughter hundreds of psychotic, parasite-infected villagers, that there's nothing anyone says that might hurt someone's overly-sensitive feelings.
Maybe it was a reference. Ingrid was the name of a Capcom character from a cancelled game whom later appeared in a Capcom fighter. She appeared to be a young woman.
@@dynamicsketch Nope, it was Capcom being scared of the PC Police again. Crapcom strikes again. Tune in next time when Crapcom ruins yet another game in the RE series because they are stupid as fuck at this point and want to bow down to people that aren't even buying their games anyways.
This video makes me realize that there's more to the reason why this game is a masterpiece. Not only is it just a solid game with 10/10 gameplay, but everyone working on it genuinely cared about it's creation. There's so much revealed in this video that I'm like, "They didn't have to do that, yet they did!"
They didn’t have to do that yet they did Youve just described The whole DMC Series it’s Badass and cool and they wanted to make something they like 👍
@@WSendam DMC has a lot of detail, but not nearly as much as what they've done here.
Eh re4 is kinda mid
I think the series jumped the shark with 4 myself. Went way too action game-ish for me, and a whole hell of a lot less scary.
I think they can do better than chain saw man
I loved the atmosphere of the first two games
The description of the Chainsaw Man is literally the same of the Chainsaw Devil in the Chainsaw Man manga. “No matter how many times you kill him, he just revs his engine and gets back up” he was also considered the “Hero of Hell”
I was hearing that and thinking “dude Fujimoto absolutely knew what he was doing”

That Rodrigo story adds such a cool background to the whole village scenario. Wish it was included in the game as a file, gave me real Keeper's Diary vibes!
I don't see a problem with there flirty lines. There cheesy but they have a early 2000s charm to them
for some fringe Westerners, they're literally the END OF THE WORLD!
I love that there were misheard words that became a regional-specific joke.
The exact same thing happened when my and a buddy played the original back when it released.
The amount of times we were convinced we heard someone say:
"I am yellow!"
"I see a star."
And the best one:
"Your mom's an STD."
Still kills us to this day. Gonna keep an ear out and see if I can pick up any during the REmake.
My friend and I said "mummy STDs" every day for about a year after we beat RE4
My friend and I always heard "I need a car" from the village Ganados that yell out random stuff
As a kid I always heard “the lord said we can eat you”
Had zero idea about the entire Rodrigo story. Pretty disturbing but also amazing that the devs put that much care into it. Amazing work DYKG and Sphere Hunter!
I love how punchy the gunshots sound! One of the many reasons gunning down Ganado is just so satisfying. Great work, Yoshihiko Wada!
“It’s 2022 and this dialogue terrifies us, it’s a war crime it was ever said in the first place” I’ll bet the guy who made that decision sleeps with a night light, absolutely pathetic.
I understand some of the dialogue cuts but I think the ballistics line should have stayed in the VR release. Without it Ashley's tone toward Luis doesn't make sense.
It's also just a bit ridiculous. We'll gladly show Leon's head get cut off with a chainsaw and body horror monsters. But if a deliberately sleazy character says a chick has a nice rack. tsk tsk tsk.
They didn't need to be cut at all for any reason. It is an adult game and none of it is even that bad.
The cut content is a bad choice. The dialogue is meant to be cheesy and harmless. It didn’t mean anything back then and it wouldn’t mean anything now.
Instead of assuming it’s bad and blaming the current times. It’s better for people to make their own choice. Give people options. Skip the cutscene. Why should a hypothetical minority be catered to?
Flirting: Can’t have that

Capcom needs to tell the West not to censor their games.
Seriously screw that developer using the "It's current year" excuse.
It's sad more people didn't like Resident Evil remake. I thought it was a fantastic reworking of the original game.
Well thankfully those poor sales were from its original GameCube release, it's definitely sold many, many times that amount by this point with all of its various rereleases on various consoles and the numerous sales Capcom does.
@@StomachPlug Yes it had much more success after the Gamecube. It's just sad that during it's original run it should have pulled better numbers. To me, if you had a Gamecube or even later a Wii, RE-remake was a MUST HAVE for those systems.
It's probably just too hard and scary for many people these days. RE4 is a linear action shooter with virtually no puzzles (and a very good game) which made it more accessible to the masses, hence the huge sales. Its funny to see people going back to the originals after playing RE4 first and complaining about the difficulty of the puzzles, lack of ammo and no checkpoints. Lol.
Hey, that's what the series is meant to be 😁
It's one of the best remakes ever made. It understands exactly what works in the original and improves on what didn't. It's damn near perfect.
I feel like it was a mixture of things. PS2 and Xbox were also new consoles at the time and something like REmake on Gamecube didn't really target the right audience. I do remember lots of people and magazines praised it back then but no one buying it (Like Okami). It also had to compete with GTA and the PS2 which were still peaking at the time
I miss the old flirty dialogue of the old Resident Evil games and it would have been awesome for them to keep those moments in the new RE4 remake but some people just don’t really like the old dialogue in today’s games but still it would have been awesome to see everyone still playing flirty with Leon
They should have upped the ante and made Krauser thirsty for Leon too
@@lpnp9477 they totally did though, he calls him a "pretty boy" and has a photo of leon in his files, sounds thirsty to me
Also since it is Meta Quest exclusive, more kids will join in on playing RE4. So must be a corporate order from Meta themselves
@@chaisewashere you got a point there
@@JeskidoYT Damn Meta and their corporate orders screwing up quality in games
Anyone else think that maybe Rodrigo was the 1st ganado you meet? Given his reaction basically being "get out" while probably finally losing to the mind control completely. Probably not but it wraps things up in a nice bow to me
I like this idea, especially since him being loosely controlled would tie into him coming back a literal axe to grind after Leon had been implanted, counter to the cult’s goals.
5:35
*Come on, it's [CURRENT YEAR].*
So it is not allowed anymore to say “somehow I thought you’d be a little older”??
Oh lordy he asked for a girls number and was flirtatious. We have to censor that so not to offend anyone
Resident Evil 4 is one of the most influential videogames of all time, the over the shoulder thirid person perspective, the attention to details , etc, this game was state of the art when it came out.
Maaan I wish I could tell Shinji Mikami that RE Remake is perfect (cuz it is).
Ah yes, Dr. Salvador. He cured my leg pain, and now I always have a parking spot right next to any building.
I just don’t understand where everyone gets their info on what “tastes” “modern audiences” actually have. I loved the campy, flirty garbage. It fleshed the characters out and made the dynamics between them all make sense.
The amount of work and little details that went into the original RE4 are truly astounding. These kind of things usually went over my head when I played the game, so learning about this now deepen my respect for the team that worked on it hundredfold.
Thank you guys for your work on this video as well.
The dialogue change was a travesty
I know very little about the resident evil, but that won’t stop me from enjoying your videos. You guys should be proud of the work and dedication you put into these.
What a dumb reason to remove dialogue from the VR version.
Im glad this channel is back, it being taken down would be my library of alexandria
THEY CUT THE BALLISTICS QUOTE?!! TF? it was a great way to show the character's personality. A bit sleazy with a quick wit.
REmake sold poorly?! That's one of my favorites in the whole franchise! D:
From what I remember REmake sold poorly at first, but over the years it's sold more as people have come to rightfully appreciate it for the masterpiece it is
Only on Gamecube, it has sold respectably over the years with various rereleases
I had no idea about how it was the life of the villagers before they're all infected, that's pretty neat.
7:00 Save Room is great! Very zen, and I recommend it to *anyone* who enjoyed RE4's inventory management!
Imagine being so sensitive in this world they had to remove such benign lines from a video game lol. People are crazy these days. Oh well I guess. At least I still have the ps2 version
Oh so that's why we got this transition from horror to action!
this is why RE4 Classic (oh god, I still can't believe I have to now call it "classic") will always be in my top 5 games of all time. it was the game that helped me get over my fear of scary and violent video games :)
5:00 THATS what "pera pera sause" from Masterpiece Theater refer to. 😆
Holy shit, I totally forgot that Overtime part from Ashley LMAO!
"Tastes of modern audiences" lmao ok.
Those dialogue cuts in the VR version just doesn’t feel right.
Was the flirtatious dialogue really necessary to cut? I can at least understand looking up Ashley’s skirt, but this seems like overkill.
I consider REmake to be one of the gold standards for a proper video game remake. Sad to hear it did so poorly in sales. Certainly explains why the upped the ante with 2 and 3 remakes.
I think it being a GameCube exclusive probably was a factor, considering up until then the mainline games were all on the PlayStation. I would think most of the established fans likely had a PS2 at the time and couldn't justify buying another console for the one game. Not to mention, the REmake was definitely not geared towards the GC's primary audience. Sad that it had such an effect on Capcom and Shinji, because it was definitely amazing. I can only wonder how the series would have turned out had they not made that deal with Nintendo.
Dead Space remake to me now is the Gold Standard
@@JimbosVid I thought that too, Nintendo has that family friendly stigma to it. Shame that Eternal Darkness is lost to that purgatory.
The GameCube was a massive failure so it's no surprise sales weren't satisfactory.
I think Zero was what finally killed it even tho RE: outbreak were the last two games to use the OG style
Btw @spherehunter , I can almost 100% guarantee to you that he didn't play in a black and white TV, but in black and white with a colour TV.
Sometimes you'd get games in Brazil with the wrong video version for your PlayStation, PAL rather than NTSC, and then colours wouldn't be decoded properly.
I always thought that those who didn't speak Spanish missed some of the comedic tone of the game, that scene when the villagers hear the bell and go away made me laugh my ass off the first time I played the game.
As a random aside, one of the mobile versions of RE Degeneration is literally a reskin of a previous game called RE the Missions, which in turn was made by reusing assets from RE3.
Facebook cutting those lines went a little overboard lol.
Pleasant watch/listen. Well done!
I'm sorry, but why are the flirtatious bits considered to have not aged well?
because video games aren't allowed to be fun anymore when it comes to social stuff
God forbid your campy horror game has some camp in it.
The dialogue cutting doesn’t make much sense to me. Most of it was playfully flirtatious lines and usually the person flirting gets rejected pretty hard lmao. And the line Luis says is supposed to sound like an asshole joke.
First time I played RE4 was on PS2 . I've always thought that village backstory, explained in drawings only (during credits), was a thing of masterful storytelling.
4:17 I noticed already that the enemies aren't actual Spanish speakers from Spain. In that time stamp, he says "haciendo". Notice the sound of "c" in that word. Spainards use ceceo, where as most Spanish speakers from Central and South America use seseo. In Spain, if "c" or "z" is followed by an "e" or "i", then that c or z sound becomes the same like the English "th" sound. In the rest of the Spanish speaking world, "c/ze" or "c/zi" is pronounced with a normal "s" sound. I played the demo of new remake only for a short time and it sounded like the Spanish now use ceceo.
Maybe he's from Andalucia, where they have seseo.
When she said “mexican” accent I thought all this time I was believing it was a Spanish accent somehow but never really paid attention! Because, of course, “te cogí” totally means something different in Mexican terms 😂
Correction: Okay, we can use 4:35 for a better example. He said "hacer" in seseo. Listening again In 4:17 I can't really tell if it is ceceo or seseo.
@@forestmanzpedia For 4:35 he says "haser" with "s" instead of "hacer" with "c", while the one at 4:17 does say "haciendo" with "c"
as a mexican, this is not mexican spanish. it is spanish from spain. the commentator is wrong
5:55 That's one of the funniest jokes in the game!
6:07 As scandalous as that would be, I would take the invite if that means I would never get caught.
6:38 Shame that this will be cut.
I just wanted to point out that at 4:06 when Sphere mentions that most enemies speak a Mexican dialect of Spanish, that is a misconception, as it's actually Spanish from the country of Spain(dialects are also only endemic languages spoken by an indigenous population), very similar to our(Mexican) language but with a very distinct accent that would be equal to England English vs North American English.
That said, thanks for the video and the collab! Love y'all's content.
I was about to say that, thanks
I was looking for this comment. Thank God someone said it.
“American English” is a dialect, though. Maybe you use a different word in Spanish, but a dialect refers to a variety of a certain language that has distinct pronunciation and vocabulary.
@@OrangeXenon54 you are right in regard to the meaning of a dialect, as it is indeed a variation of a language, however it is still not the Mexican dialect that they speak in RE4, it's native Spanish from Spain that they speak, the language is from that country and it is not a dialect in itself, ours in Mexico would be considered one, though.
was expecting to know all the facts, but you listed some stuff i didn't know lol

RE Damnation is one THE best pieces of RE non-game content out there.
I'm surprised they didn't replace Leon's gun with a Walkie Talkie for that modern audience.
Uses the walkie talkie to shoot and talk with XD
They should have demanded that Leon wore a police cam all throughout the game.

Great video thanks for all the translation stuff
Only way this vid could have been any better is it Uncle Derek voiced it.
Uncle Derek definitely deserves a dykg spot but The Sphere Hunter does too. She earned it.
Wow, I've been subbed to DYKG for years, and over the past decade I've seen countless fact videos from other creators on Resident Evil 4 as it's my favourite game of all time (well tied for 1st place alongside Borderlands 2), I thought I knew everything there was to know about this game but surprisingly I learned a handful of new things from this video. Thanks, and well done DYKG! ♥
It's a nice touch that they added the fate of the village at the end there. Gives it a somber and sad tone after all that action. I guess the viruses and plagas are too much for kids' bodies to handle, or maybe there isn't enough biomass for it to turn properly.
im so glad that now 2022 has passed, women never get catcalled and no one flirts with eachother anymore.

This was a great video! Not only do I have 2 new movies to watch for some sweet Leon action and Lore. But I also unfortunately know what happened to the village before Leon arrives...
It’s amazing that how much the original is ahead of its time. With its sound effects to its Spanish speaking villagers. Plus Leon is a flirt back then. I guess it’s been removed in the remake.
"The changes were made for modern audiences."
That get jealous that a video game character is more attractive than them.
Huge fan of Save Room here! I will go back every once in a while to play it as relaxation from a stressful day.
Hearing those villagers scream expletives brought me right back to grade 8!
Great video, but I think you forgot to clarify that the original game did a poor job with the ganado's dialogue, like you said, some of their lines sound mexican while the game takes place in Spain, I'm glad they are doing things right this time.
You think that sounds Mexican? Where are you from? I'm Mexican and that sound Spaniard to me.

The resident evil remake on GC was a great game. I really appreciate the hard work they put into it. I remember completing like six times :)
small details like these, are what make games so much more immersive. Degeneration did have a game on mobile, and for a mobile game it was really really good! it played well on my ipod touch back then. XD
If i can be honest, removing these instances of Leon's flirtatious personality does annoy me. It shows how full of confidence he is even in the middle of a very dangerous situation, and adds levity to the game. How can someone find any of that offensive?
I got a few guesses, but none of them are particularly flattering, or even nice for that matter.
Soft ass people can’t handle flirting, it’s insane the majority of people wouldn’t even mind it but of course we gotta accommodate to the loud minority that probably never even played the original.

Those cut lines aren't even that bad. They're corny, like the rest of the game. They make me chuckle
5:35 LE CURRENT YEAR
9:23 Against what he says and others will say about the zombie and item management getting old at this point. I don't think it was that fact alone that caused RE Remake to not sell well initially. But rather it was the fact it was a Gamecube exclusive at the time. I mean, the Gamecube didn't sell too well as a console and this likely because of the PS2's dominance during that time and the stigma associated with Nintendo of just being a kiddie game company. Not to mention that the discs didn't have the best storage compared to a Xbox or PS2 disc.
If RE Remake was made for the PS2 or original Xbox; I bet the game would've sold massively better and RE probably would've never went down the action route in the first place.
4:35 ** Minced meat! My childhood friend and I would always start crying of laughter whenevever the villagers would shout this voiceline because it literally translates to "I'm going to make you minced meats!". How very kind and thoughtful of the villagers to make Leon a nice meal! lol
4:07 I could be wrong, as I'm not fluent (I'm primarily an English speaking Mexican/American), but to me all of the Spanish dialect sounds more like Castilian Spanish (Spain).
The dialog is vaguely Castilian but the accents are Latin American

Anyway, that background lore near the end was quite interesting.
It's just some stupid shit that doesn't mean anything, honestly. I'm the modern audience. The old dialogue was fine.
So was Luis Rodrigo's brother? That was a rather interesting story towards the end and more games need to have something like it.

An interesting expansion on the fate of the children, as it was long thought that the skulls under the stairs of the hunter’s lodge were the village children, killed after the adults were first turned, rather than as a side effect of the process.
Graphical limitations aside, the notion was based on the skulls being child size…
