Let's not forget that apparently carrying your groceries in the rain is humbling
I genuinely wish I was as stupid as Shane. Imagine living a life where even the smallest most innocuous things can blow your mind. Life would be one hell of an adventure.
oh man I wish I was alone for like the first escalator and stuff like that, it'd be so cool
And rich.. Ahh.. How has he not gone broke though?
Yeah but then you'd have something in common with Shane Dawson :(

But imagine how you're gunna feel when the sun is going down :
For someone to have “grown up poor” he sure seemed to forget generic brands existed once he got famous
Yeah seems like it like ......bro
he literally used to make jokes in his old videos that they used to always get the generic brands because they were too poor to buy name brand stuff
he probably researched “poor” brands when he was telling his lil fake story before😂 or walked into the nearest walmart & just searched the aisles for anything but name brand
generic brands hit different sometimes, if he had actually grown up 'poor' he would certainly remember them
@@NAUTU yepp exactly
If Shane is shocked by stores having “off-brand” food and stuff, wait till he finds out about medicines doing the same😮
oh man wait till he learns about acetaminophen, he'll have an aneurysm
Wait until he finds out you can buy second-hand things at a thrift store. He'll grab a shirt and say "Wow, this looks brand new! I can't believe some stores will sell something like this for 60$ when you can buy it here for 5$, why doesn't everyone shop at thrift stores? Is this even legal?"
And you could actually make a point about the massive price desrepency with medicine but this shit is so silly. "Sugar corn snackems are just frosted flakes the deep state is behind this!"

Could you imagine coming in to Aldi to do your weekly shopping, only to find Shane Dawson and his friends freaking out over generic cereals?
i'd report them to management for being rowdy and filming people without permission
They would have to take ME out of the store because I would aggresivly explain very basic concepts to that adult man against his will. I've seen his stupid conspiracy videos I deserve the catharsis.
If I’m not misremembering I think someone did see him and film him discreetly and uploaded it on TikTok. The video ends abruptly when Shane makes eye contact with the camera 😂😂
“Omg It’s a RUclipsr! Ahh what shall we do?!” Is that how y’all’s view these people? wtf 💀😭😂😂😂🤦🏽♀️💁🏽♀️
😂😂😂😂
Seeing how surprised Shane is by store brands, everyone's like "oh that proves he's been cosplaying as a poor person this whole time" but it's deeper than that. Him being so shocked makes it seem like he's literally never been in a grocery store.
They definitely get all their groceries delivered lol you could tell even when ryland says carrying all their groceries through the rain to their car was a “humbling experience” like jfc these people are definitely living in a bubble. I’m pretty sure they themselves have even talked about how they get all their stuff delivered too
I genuinely wonder how much of his reactions is fake outrage
im super poor... like very... and... this guy definitely just doesnt understand anything. when you're poor you still know bigger brands but especially know off-brand generic shit??? im so confused on how generic brand things would even be that exciting even if he really didnt know what it was beforehand. what.
@@killswitch69 right i'm constantly looking for the generic brand of things.
@@poopoopeepee318 the fact that he got the animal crackers on Amazon really says it all. He was already going to go to all these grocery stores for the video, but it's just easier and more convenient to have the carbon footprint of yet another single item being (probably next-day) delivered. I also can be part of this problem, and I'm trying to make sure I am at least somewhat sustainable, but this is just absurd.
as someone who grew up in poverty, Shane's video is literally the funniest thing for the wrong reasons. it's the equivalent of that one video of Kendall or Kylie Jenner cutting a cucumber.
you naming off both of them is so funny to me. idk if it's because you just couldn't remember but i am choosing to believe it's because you can't tell them apart

the fact that shane claims he grew up poor makes it even more bizarre. hes acting like hes never seen a cheaper off-brand version of a product before? thats like... stage one of being poor???
Did he think they were going to like genetically engineer their own pistachios? Of course the pistachios are the same
I was thinking this too. Like the "Tesla of pistachios"??? The f is he talking about? It's a pistachio???? It either is or is not a pistachio, that's it
I was thinking the exact same like buddy…. Its a nut. it grows off a damn tree lol.
...You know that there are copyrighted strains of common food crops, right? Like, producers pay for the seeds, and pay extra for genetically modified strains that perform, yield, and taste different, and have varying nutrient levels?

"how is this legal" is giving "how dare these poor plebs eat the same food as me for less money" energy

@@zhebebeDeveloping a product is a lot harder than just copying one and cutting cost it makes sense they cost more
@@zhebebeit's not a conspiracy, he's just stupid
To be fair - and I hate to do it when it comes to Shane - at least in the way the video is edited he seems to be talking specifically about the animal crackers that are literally using the same shapes as the original brand. Usually generics won't go that far and I wouldn't be surprise if Trader Joe's got in trouble for it.
Jarvis here has the energy of in school when you KNOW you fucked up badly because the super sweet and laid back teacher is actually visibly angry.
Yeah when he was cursing and shit I was like Oh he's really mad now like this isn't just content he planned to make he just is really mad at this video for absolutely justified reasons
I had a laid-back teacher like that once, and once he got so mad he cussed at this kid and we all just stared in shock. He’s still one of my favorite teachers ever

I never realised he tried to replace Andrew so directly oml did he go hunting for someone with similar mannerisms or did he straight up tell the man to act that way
thats what i was literally thinking. It has been freaking me out a bit 😅
I'm so glad someone else said this, the laugh is identical it is so off putting
I was thinking the exact same thing. I wouldn’t be surprised if he did make the poor guy laugh like Andrew did. Like almost down the the EXACT mannerisms there no way that’s a coincidence
omg i thought it was just me... when i first watched this i genuinely thought that andrew had come back or something until i realized it wasn't him LMAO i wonder if shane wanted someone similar because of how popular andrews personality was and how people always swooned over his laugh
@@drizzuI it wouldn’t surprise me! He has the exact mannerisms down the the laugh, the way the camera zooms, everything

and made a fuss when he opened the package like it was the most exciting thing to ever exist 😂
Who tf cares where someone got their animals crackers from? Everyone throws a fuss over anything they can think of. Bunch of children.

I loved the fact that Shane acted like he's never been in a grocery store in his life. Grocery stores always have the generic brands next to the name brand because it's there to be a cheaper alternative. Thank you for going through the pain of watching that entire video to give us this GOLDEN content.
I wonder why they would put what is essencially the same product in the same aisle? Mmmmmm suspicious
@@Edelara Yeah, they should divide us into poor people and rich people. That way I have a half of the store dedicated to my cheap poor people animal crackers that I can buy instead of the more expensive name brand ones. 😞🥺👉👈
@@Edelarabecause it doesn't really matter. The way they get you to buy the brand name is by giving it value (marketing), and that's expensive. Part of the reason the product is more expensive is because of the value that the brand has... And also there are strategies, cheaper less known brands pretend to sell more and make less per unit sold, while others might want to sell less but having a higher profit per unit. How do they do this? Marketing. Substitute products, complementary products, customer loyalty, trust in the brand, experience with said brands... There's a lot studied on this. It's not new, but maybe if people knew more they could be more responsible consumers
your missing the whole point, the name brand is marketed as higher quality or more organic, but their literally the same product from the same factory packaged differently
@@masterlee-xi3re But that's not a conspiracy, lots of people know about generic/off-brand products. That's the point. Shane spends all this time hyping up a well known feature of marketing and capitalism as some sort of conspiracy.
The fact that he's treating generic foods like this just proves to me that he was never as poor as he claimed

YES that was so confusing to me! Like its a nut, why would it be different between different companies??? Its a fucking pistachio my guy, what did you expect???

It would be different if they were like. Different flavors, or were cooked different (one not roasted or one has sugar on it) but NO they’re. They’re both cooked the same . How can someone be so caught up in their own delusions to not realize what they’re saying. “This brand sells THIS nut!!!! And THIS brand sells the SAME nut!!!! THEYRE THE SAME?????”
The fact that the entire first theory was just Shane realizing that off-brand foods are a thing is pretty annoying for someone obsessed with playing poor.
which is insane bc he admitted to eating off brand foods growing up bc he was poor 😭
Wait. So there's people who actually believe that if there is one brand of food item. They won't think twice about a cheaper, third party, possibly healthier options?
God he’s so obnoxious
The main point of the whole video is talking about how these foods are made by the exact same company but the “off brand” is being sold for half the price. They’re the same product just packaged differently. I can understand that might not be shocking to some ppl but to others who had never heard that before or seen how many products it happens to it’s kinda crazy 🤷🏼♀️
I feel like this video wouldn’t be as annoying if Shane didn’t call it “conspiracy theories.” Just call it “Grocery Store marketing tricks” or something. This whole video is the “Great Value” version of MattPat’s Food Theory Channel.
As someone who works at Chuck E Cheese, it’s kind of infuriating that I work so hard to make pizza dough, go through rushes by myself, and make menu items for people to then accuse me of reusing someone else’s work.
Edit 9/18: I just got a promotion! I’m a kitchen trainer now! I have lots more knowledge than before lmao
I’d like to add on that at first glance, that theory is very slightly believable. But if you think about it for like,, 3 seconds it’s not hard to realize that the pizza is just cut by a teenager and/or someone who just doesn’t care or wasn’t trained properly, so of course it’s not gonna look right. Adding on that everything is done by hand. The pizzas are NEVER a perfect circle. Sometimes that’s just the shape of the screen we stretch the dough on.
@@rosegonzalez5818 i got dragged to chuck e cheese way too many times a few summers ago because of my sister and i could tell the pizzas were made there. also they tasted pretty good tbh. i had an online "friend" who unironically believed the pizza conspiracy though
I just thought it was a dumb conspiracy given that it violates all health and food safety laws so obviously they wouldn’t do it. All it takes is one inspector visit for the entire chain to fall. No one looking to pinch pennies is that dumb
My husband used to make pizzas there. The cutter they use is this weird see-saw one that isn't like the typical roller pizza cutter. They throw it in an oven, do whatever until it's ready, cut it in 5 seconds with the see-saw cutter thing and then it's done.
@@IamYasuraka Yep! I wasn’t even really trained properly on how to use that cutter, so the first few pizzas I made looked,, wonky to say the least.
i work in a craft store and so many people complain about them losing service and try and argue that it’s so “they can’t access the coupons and pay more” but it’s literally just a giant metal building
in summary these “conspiracies” just show how out of touch and boomer-esque shane is to use them for an hour long vid
@@abbybinch real crafters don't leave the car until you've got that coupon loaded up onto either the app of whatever store or on a tab on your phone's web browser. Like, sorry not sorry Patricia but learn how to streamline your shit so you're not holding up the line.
Yeah like why tf would stores care about cutting people off the internet. People nowadays are addicted to their phones, they'd prefer exiting the store as early as possible to be able to connect. More and more stores are providing customers with WiFi, smh Shane use logic it's not that hard
@@TheImpossiBelle I take a screenshot of the coupon, that way there's no issue at all with service.

Shane Dawson saw an "Everyday Essentials" box of Toaster Pastries and lost his mind

@@smallspooks As someone who got over that and cut my grocery cost down about 40% I highly recommend doing the same. No hate, you're just wasting money on pretty packaging.

@@sourgreendolly7685 I can definitely understand doing that, like I do like generic brand granola bars, but most generic things I really don't like. Like Doritos or Captain Crunch.

@@gilbert4394 But that doesn't make any sense either. Food scarcity, cost of transport, area cost of living, etc. can make the same product vary wildly in price depending on where you buy it.
Even if we're talking generic vs. name brand, the same product isn't necessarily the same product. Aldi's might have different quality control requirements than Kellogg's.
You get the guarantee that what you're buying will taste how you expect it to. Dr. Thunder is not going to taste like Dr. Pepper. Most generic diet root beers have an extra herbal taste that A&W doesn't have.
You're also less likely to find promotions, coupons, and deals for generic products which can make them cheaper than the other versions which don't go on sale as often.

I got mad because pistachios are just expensive in general like it's gonna be pricey no matter what, he got like two pounds of them
Is it even possible for pistachios to taste drastically different beyond just coating them with something else besides salt? Cause I am very confused at what he expected 😅
Maybe I don't understand this because I've never done research on this but isn't it obvious that all pistachios taste the same? Like it's a plant from nature you can only change it so much it's like going crazy because two different carrots taste the same like what do you expect

The psychology of store layout is very real and very well documented. Costco moves things around intentionally so that you have to go through the whole store to find the thing that you want.
Right thats the point. These aren't conspiracy theories. It's just stuff that exists and is real and well known. Its like saying I have a conspiracy theory that facebook targets advertisements to individual users. I find it wild Shane felt so comfortable making content based on his own cluelessness. Looks like he'd have done a Google search, realized that it wasnt a conspiracy and like...picked a new content.
Weirdest part is he clearly DID a google search, found out what private labelling was, and then continued acting like this was ground-breaking information 😂
You mean he had to come up with actual interesting content? Impossible :') I honestly can't believe he still has a platform somehow

So one time Shane was reviewing a video that “proved we lived in a simulation” in a conspiracy video. This was also the last Shane Dawson video I ever watched cuz it annoyed me that much. It was a video of someone on a train filming a bird that was stationary in the air. That apparently proved everything as it was “the earth glitching”. I’m a paranoid person at the best of times. But oh my god that is just proof of a lack of understanding. I tried to talk to my friends about it and THEY ALL BELIEVED IT TOO. Should we tell Shane Dawson about the conspiracy theory that people who work at these grocery stores wear the same outfits? I think the stores may be forcing them to do this. Sometimes different stores with the same name have same outfits too.
Would you tell him just so he'd make that dumb surprised face?

If this is a surprise to Shane imagine how absolutely pissed he will be when he finds out the pears at different stores all come from the same place.

This reminds me of when I worked at Marshalls and I overheard two teenage girls looking at the clearance shoes section. They scoffed at the prices and one of them said, "Why would you buy this here at Marshalls for $20 when you could buy it at the actual store for $200?" They laughed, put the shoes back, and left the store.
To clarify, Marshalls does sell the real designer brands, just at a discount for being last season, etc. They just wanted to be able to brag about spending the full price.
“Why save 180€ when you can make the rich richer”

As a person who has directly profited off of selling shitty makeup just because it was under his name/label and Jeffree Star’s name/label, you would think Shane would intimately understand the value of branding and why companies charge more for it. Lol.
makeup isn't a necessity like food is, and also most people buy groceries in the US, and I imagine only a fraction spend money on makeup. This is probably why Shane is more passionate about uncovering this kind of scam.
I was looking for this comment looool
@@sum_seal5220 It’s not a scam. It’s a well-known fact that helps people save money by not spending it on branding.
exactly, its a well known fact at this point that Kylie Jenner just sells Colour Pop with "special shades" for a markup. These people literally just own the intellectual propriety to their branding and color formulations and combinations usually. They may tweak the actual ingredients rarely but you can only do that so much with manufacturing without eating into their absurd profit margins.
@@lexinicole4317 but it's also making people spend more because they think they're getting higher quality products. it's dishonest and a trick. You could look at it from both sides I suppose. At one point though those companies noticed that people might not have been buying their products because of the price, so instead of lowering them as a whole they created a new brand that was cheaper as a ploy to not only get lower income people to buy their product but also raise the worth of their name brand products, which are the same as the generic brand. They're making extra money off tricking people. Even if they were forced into this position it still says a lot about the priorities of the food industry in the US.
Shane asked people on twitter to share this video with their friends because it wasn't getting much traction and he blamed the algorithm. I think more of his audience has grown past him tbh

Okay but even growing up middle class, we still always got the generic brands because companies charge extra for branding, and that was understood.
This just came to my mind, but Matpat from Game Theory actually came out to disprove the Chuck E. Cheese thing. He even tested it out across multiple restaurants and came to the conclusion that they look like that because it’s cheap pizza cut with a dull rocking knife. The funniest part of the whole thing is that he refused to say Shane's name out loud, as though just mentioning him might get him demonetized 😅😅😅.
What's more, Matpat tested it out during lockdown when the restaurants were only doing take out and there literally were no leftovers to use, and the pizzas came out the same.
Shane's theory was pure bs.

RUclips will sometimes cut out audio for videos that are seen as copyright, so that’s probably what it is. The audio was untouched when I first watched the video, so maybe someone tried to copywriter claim it?
@@gizmo_gadgets6482 I second this; I watched it the day Jarvis posted and it wasn't cut out like that. It's most likely RUclips automatically doing it because something got copyright claimed, like a song playing or Shane claiming his own video

The pistachios in particular really tickled me. Why does he expect a different brand of nut to be different. Its still a nut 😂
Also he showed the “name brand” pistachios but not a bougie brand. Like sure it’s not the store brand or value brand, but it’s not the absolute best, super expensive brand. 😂
Apparently Shane not knowing something then finding it out is what makes conspiracies.
conspiracy theory: shane dawson doesn't have a brain.

Actually this is weirdly true like I guess when people discover new things but he's just in suspended disbelief permanently about things and thinks it's all hidden knowledge kept from the general public
As someone who grew up with parents who saved money on generic brands, Shane's shock and roasting of generic brands is so...out of touch and off putting. Literally every grocery store has a private brand and that even extends to gas station corner stores and stores like CVS and Walgreens, why is this so shocking? It's every day stuff x.x
He's so out of touch cause he's been rich for too long. The dude literally bought crackers from amazon instead of walking into a Walmart. And him being shocked that he's having trouble getting phone service in a store is so weird? Like, does he not even understand that phones get a better signal when you're not in a concrete building? Has money rot his brain?
Equate is my shit
I would love to see his face if he ever sees that potatoes come from the underground, I bet he thinks they grow on trees or some shit 😂
My conspiracy: The reason he doesn’t know how generic grocery store products work is because he orders everything off Amazon instead of going to the actual store. The footage we saw was him entering a grocery store for the first time in his life.
Makes sense. This is a man who post mates just ranch.
Now now, remember, he grew up poor. Meaning he didnt amazon as a kid cause he sent his servant to the store to get his doritos.

the "frosted flakes OF CORN" thing was more shocking than anything shayne "exposed"
I think the reason it feels so icky is because one of the really good aspects of making generic versions is the lower price for the exact same thing. Shane seems to be trying to almost criminalize making things cheaper instead of calling out name brands that needlessly mark up prices (or just mark up prices specifically for the name, ie Starbucks reusable cups).
This is what I was thinking too! The whole video felt really classist to me
this whole video is basically rich man angry that his bougie products are not exclusive - can be bought by "teh poor".
@Argleblargle right?! How dare they!? I mean they take everything and leave nothing for the wealthy!! When will it end!?!?
@@birdmassman5431yesss literally this. the part about the pistachios where he calls the generic ones dry or garbage or whatever is so weird because isn't it good that you can buy it for cheaper, with slightly less attractive packaging, but get the exact same product! The dumbest part of this whole thing is that he *knows* about private labeling because he worked with morphe- a private label makeup company. He’s just smelling his own farts at this point.
his conspiracies always felt like he heard a random rumor and thought it was more important than it was. "theres a conspiracy that if you eat beans they make you toot. there is even a children's rhyme calling them 'the musical fruit'! They arent shown that way in grocery stores, so today we eat some beans to see if the conspiracy is true!"
Shane Dawnson is like if you turned the,”Number 15: Burger King foot lettuce” meme into a person
The truly sad thing about this is that he literally browsed makeup components with JS and saw how different brands use all the same parts and just slap a product in them and a label on them. This isn't much different yet his brain is mesmerized?
I was just about to comment this! Private labeling is huge in the makeup industry (components and formulas). For a guy who claims to have been fully entrenched in the beauty space, this oversight is embarrassing lol
I don’t think his brain actually is mesmerized, he’s just acting like he’s freaking out bc he has zero respect for his audience/their intelligence and wants to do the bare minimum to get paid.

So wait, did Shane think that some random store has their own factory where they produce their own milk, oil, toilet paper, cheese, batteries, chocolate, detergent, soap etc.? And that those products are sold only in their stores for some reason?
Yeah I can kind of understand being surprised about it initially, but after like 10 seconds of critical thinking you realize it just wouldn't make sense for every grocery chain to make their own products. Anyone who's watched an episode of How It's Made knows how labor intensive factory production can be. There are whole factories that exist just to make the PACKAGING for the food, let alone the food itself.
“did Shane think…” imma stop you right there, I can assure you that he did not.

The difference between Shane’s and Eddy’s videos was that Eddy doesn’t frame it as an outlandish, larger than life conspiracy. He grounds it in the logic of hyper competitive business practices and then breaks down the impact on consumers. Shane just seems to enjoy finding problems, or even non-issues and not putting any effort into why these things exist.
@Judy Mwanzo agreed, I can see how it may appeal to a kind of audience that wants a spectacle and nothing else. But it seems icky to use other people’s content to such an extent and not add anything to the conversation
I loved Eddy's so much because first off he starts it off with 'Ok you know what ghost kitchens are and if you don't here's a brief explanation but now I'm going to show you extra crazy stuff I learned and things I can debunk '. And he straight up does his own testing and research. Where Shane is basically like a little kid who hears something from his friend in school and now he has to tell everyone... And no matter what, the way his friend said it is basically the gospel.
Right? You can tell Eddy put so much work and research into his video and Shane's just looks like he saw Eddy's video, took two elements that took the least amount of work, and just did that
