Looks like the Emboss function works just fine. Maybe they fixed it in the last update. I did exactly the same, except that I put my plan tangent to my surface.
I keep getting a "create parting line failed" issue when I am trying to split. for reference I am trying to monogram a wine glass, it is always the middle letter that doesn't work. The middle one is bigger than the others, still had this issue with the middle one when I kept everything the same size. Any help?
Hello, I used your work for my projekt. It's realy nice! THX. But now I had one other question. How can I add a chamfer to the "thicken/offset" text? Regards Toby
Hello. You can do very simmilar result much faster this way: 1)offset all affected object's surfaces as new object, 2)then extrude text 3) apply boolean for this two as intersection 4) voila :) ..anyway thanks for nice tutorials
If you don't have "Convert to geometry", 2d sketch your text, extrude/cut text into face, 3d sketch and include the outer geometry, patch the text, thicken/cut. TFI helps me out of all the grief.
Great solution but I am needing to install another SHX file to match up the geometry to a font that is used elsewhere on this model where I was able to emboss. Can you help a brother out and show how to import my new SHX fonts?
Hey thanks for the tut it's great but I have am issue when I try to add another embossed Text to the same face I get a fail. I also find it really in consistent but I am using 2018. I get issues where the split wont either work for one letter out of 4 or get 2 different errors in the same line of text. One is "Could not build this Split The selected curves for the Split Face operation did not fully intersect the faces to be split. Try with different inputs." or "Selt intersecting paths or loops are invalid for this operation" But I can split the other 4 letters without an issue?
That was very good. This is the first time I have watched any of your clips, it was informative and easy to watch. Thanks. Have you ever drawn a steering wheel with the lumpy bits on the back of the wheel for the fingers? Cheers Rod
G'day Neil. Love ya work. Took me forever to figure out how to do this in Inventor 2015. Can I explain simply? Offset a surface from compound curved face same distance as the depth of text you want, extrude text that's on a workplane offset from part surface to the part surface you want the text on. Then use the previously offset surface to trim the extruded text. Same result as you got, maybe a little quicker? Text isn't perpendicular to the surface, not sure if it is with your method. 'bout time I tried to contribute. Thanks for your work.
Hallo TFI, found the solution, have to click on Emboss/Engrave from Plane (and not Emboss from Face) now it's working fine :)Sorry for the inconvenience :(
Neil this is great. Question on the "convert to geometry" feature: can I get this done manually if I'm using Inv. 2016? Also, can we make a debossed feature this way? I mean does the thicken support anything that would work to cut the model? Thanks for the excellent videos!
I CANNOT get this to work, when I right click on text to convert to geometry the option is not there, I'm running 2017 Pro...any ideas? thank you! Just found you on youtube and love your vidoes
Ooooo shit I think that command is part of the R2 or R3 update for 2017, which is available to everyone (providing you have a legal license!) but you need to update Inventor through the application/desktop app. I should make a note of that in the description.
This isn't a truly wrapped emboss. An easier way to achieve the same result would be to extrude a new solid of the text and split it using an offset surface and then combine. That way the text remains parametric.
This was the inspiration for the latest video, converting an image logo into vector using Illustrator and etching it into metal. Thanks for that, and heads up, a question you asked is featured in the next video which should be up either in the next few hours or some time tomorrow!
Thanks. If the you are referring to the question regarding mitred different-height flanges in sheet metal, I'm searching for the vid but can't find it. Will keep searching.Edit: Scrap that I found it tucked away in a long video. Thanks for clearing that up.
Wow - looking at this in 2021 and Autodesk still haven't added a way to project text onto a surface. I get the feeling they are letting Inventor die a slow death so they can migrate everyone to their newer software.
This finally solved my problem that I've been struggling with for days. Thank you, brother. God bless you abundantly.
You just saved my life! I spent whole day to solve this problem, and you finally gave me a solution. Thank you so much! Thumbs up and God bless you.
'and if it gets the job done, happy days'. This made my day!
** You'll need the R2 & R3 update for 2017 to do this, this will then be available as default in all future Inventor versions.

Can you cut the letters into the curve with this method ?
This still works in 2020.
Thank you so much
This is amazing! Where has this been all my life? But in all seriousness. Thanks for sharing this is great!
“God dammit, I didn’t want to commit to that!” 😂😂
Thank you TFI! I was on the right track already, just needed the split at the end to fix my problem!
Does this also work for engraving?
hallo thanks for the tutorial!!!!! works fine in inventor 2014!!!! is it possible after that to do circular patern? I cannot select the ofset
To transfer text on surface is almost Caesarean delivery ! On Rhino this is a piece of cake....Any way thumbs up for it !!! Subbed

Using the timeout font or any other, the split tool will not select anything. Has something changed in inventor 2019?

AWESOME. This was exactly what I was looking for. THANK YOU so much for sharing.

i won't use it. but it's awesome!)) love so much to watch u in work. thanks for what u doing

Is this available in 2018? So far I'm not finding it. My forehead is getting closer to breaking my desk in half though.
what about cutting in?
Wow! . . . . Nice one Neil . . . . . Jim
Hey TFI,
Do you know how to arctext in inventor, same like as in autocad?
Thank you!
wow! thanks, you helped me a lot with my school project!
Thanks you for this tutorial :)
It's also possible to engrave text with Emboss or Extrude (0,5 mm deep) on a plastic FreeForm part please?
That was very good. This is the first time I have watched any of your clips, it was informative and easy to watch. Thanks. Have you ever drawn a steering wheel with the lumpy bits on the back of the wheel for the fingers? Cheers Rod
I keep getting a "create Parting line error"😭😭😭😭
I had that trouble myself, but I fixed it by making sure to select the innermost lines first and work my way outward.

how DO you rotate it though?

Man i looked for this... Thank you so much.
Awesome videos as always mate.
that is bloody genius!

ok great thank you, yes all legal here man haha
How do you move the camera view at the same time as keeping your curser still?

Exactly
mate you're a bloody legend. Cheers!
very nice, keep up the great work.
Very clever. Nice job :)
Like em boss 😅
Excellent!...thank you so much!...
informative and funny! thank you
Nice. I guess to use an actual font, just outline it in Illustrator and bring it into Inventor as DWG.
Yea that sounds like a plan, and gives me an idea for another video for something relating to this!

Very creative !!
Love this
i was struggling to do this in Solidworks! Great Job! Let me try this later in Solidworks 2016....
Good shit baby!

Thanks for the content, but please leave God out of it.
