    I have Eibach front and rear on my 88 735i and the ride is AMAZING!! Comfortable and nice riding, throw it into a corner and it feels taught and sporty. It's near a perfect off-the-shelve solution to a performance upgrade for our suspensions. And yes, most mechanics are garbage, just calling it. I'm in El Paso, TX and Ive been to all the "Euro" and BMW shops down here and the workmanship is very poor in general. They will not reach for OEM parts, they want to order NAPA etc, and your car always comes back with something wrong. It's better to just grab the Bentley manual and grind through most things ourselves. Keep the videos coming!

      I agree with you 100%! If we share the repair knowledge then we won't need the shops for most services.

      Agreed! I had the H&R's on my E32 735i before and those are garbage! The ride was so bumpy! I changed to Eibach and they transformed the car completely. Rides almost like stock yet tauter and sportier on the bends.

      I think we should be proud to maintain these cars by ourselves. Not many people do that and we get to enjoy the work and also the reward of driving a nice car!

      Hey I have a question for you. When you drive your Canadian car with the headlights in the Off position, do the rear tail lights and the front turn signals (the large orange blocks next to headlights) light up? Mine are always on and I wonder if it's normal...

    Very clean looking E32, makes me to want to get one like that too. I have one owner E32 in my sight, lets see what happens.
    About mechanics: I agree, hard to find a proper shop that does things with quality. They all seem to be in a hurry to take the next client.
    Not quite sure are those shock boots actually meant to be inserted over those rings or not, not sure.
    Canadian, right? Your climate is quite similar to ours in FIN. Do you drive your E32 all throuh the year? (I hope not)

    What a gorgeous car and a proper restoration. You’ve really tempted me now with the Eibach springs. My E46 is completely stock, and I want to keep it that way, but just like your E32, I always found the front to sit just an inch or so too high for my liking. I might just go ahead and do it after all…

    • @ClassicBMWFanInQuebec
      @ClassicBMWFanInQuebec  Год назад +2

      Thanks Marco! The E46 is such a popular platform, I'm sure Eibach have a spring that lowers the ride tastefully without slamming the car. If your car needs a suspension refresh, it's also a good time to do it. It does get expensive but it's worth it if you plan to keep the car.

    • @houseofno
      @houseofno Год назад +1

      Many iL owners convert to the standard sport suspension. The control diaphragm is completely unobtainium now, as are the rear shocks. A shop in Poland rebuilds them for several hundred dollars each, and I have heard that the E38 diaphragm can be adapted to the E32. I am not into any of that. Just convert to sport suspension and eliminate this expensive, complicated, leak prone system, esp since it's almost impossible to service. By the way, you have to replace the rear springs as the stock SLS struts and springs are specific to one another. Most owners go with stock Boge shocks for stock comfortable ride or go with Eibachs or Konis for a firmer ride.

  • @leecallaghan2202
    @leecallaghan2202 3 месяца назад

    Presumably the higher front ride is to give space to allow lowering during breaking when the weight shifts to the engine and they did this because the springs are relatively soft so as to improve overall ride quality. If they fitted harder springs, it would be at the expense of the ride quality. It is high obviously but the platform is still leval with the rears. They must have tried different springs but essentially moved the e9 and e12 set up over and updated it. If you look at e23 ride, they are also quite similar. I suspect at the time they couldn’t find a spring to allow a lower height with the travel needed and wanted the cars to ride more softly. Can you let us know how you have found ride quality as a result? What are the springs like on poor roads and undulating surfaces- does it feel like a compromise?
    Ive got some spare padding for the hood corners. Ive fitted mine and it looks 90 percent OEM. I really don’t like your foam idea. It’s also flammable so not great. Left me know i will post some over to Canada.

    great video. amazing e32..does the 735il have computerized active suspension? if so how is maintenance on this suspension system? thank you

    • @ClassicBMWFanInQuebec
      @ClassicBMWFanInQuebec  Год назад

      Hi, the 735iL only has the hydraulic system to adjust the ride height at the rear. The main failure points are the accumulators and seals inside the struts (they are no longer available from BMW but can be rebuilt).

      @@ClassicBMWFanInQuebec yea, Any part. Fcpeuro has them probably for less than $10. 1 washer should not cost 75$.

    • @ClassicBMWFanInQuebec
      @ClassicBMWFanInQuebec  Год назад +3

      @@kaywonderer Ah I see what you mean. 75$ was in Canadian dollars, which would be 55$ USD.
      The washer 31321139423 is 35$ on FCP Euro. If you add tax and shipping it's not far from 55$ USD.
      In Canada everything is more expensive and getting parts from the US is cost prohibitive because of shipping and duties. This is why I got the part from the local BMW dealer.
