Even if you look at Google's "international" emojis you see thumbs up and thumbs down for various things. The only time it's sort of for directions is when a hitchhiker is asking for a rider or "thumbing a ride" they face the cars coming and point their thumb in the direction of travel. But that's probably just easier to use the thumb to point behind you while walking backwards.

Local Indonesia language is not a "dialect". Local language is THE LANGUAGE. Indonesia has 700+ different local languages.
Languages have their own characteristics that meet the requirements of language:
*) symbolic representation
*) grammar and syntax
*) semantics. example: Javanese language using Hanacaraka
*) pragmatics. example: Javanese language which is divided into ngoko, madya, kromo inggil based on politeness

dw, chances are the people who really need to know these distinction are the ones who move to Indonesia, starting to notice the differences, or language students.
There are some Indonesian regional dialects which used a different vocabulary, but her example you are right that is more like a different languages
Genesia means people will have their dialect of Indonesian languages. She didn't mean locak languages. So Indonesian languages is easy in grammar yet practcally difficult in practice.

Honestly as a brazilian we say it's rude to point at people but we still point at things, never heard of using more than one finger (sometimes you can use your lips to point tho) and the thing about accepting food varies a lot, in some regions you would be rude if you accept it and in others it would be rude not accepting it 😂
It's not rude to point at things, it's rude to make it known (loudly or obviously) that you're pointing at someone behind their backs or at their faces in anger, and I never saw anyone in any culture who didn't think that was rude.
Like, there is the expression "when you point your finger, there are three fingers pointed back at you", but that's about making an accusation or otherwise badmouthing people. It's not about doing "look, she's the girl I saw yesterday" for example. In this case, it would be rude to do it loudly enough that the girl notices it, but otherwise it's 100% normal.

As Genesia said, it depends on the region. Bali is the most liberal while Aceh and West Java is the most conservative. Even in Jakarta cities, some district are very liberal while some others are very conservative.
I give an example for wearing swimsuit in city public street.
In Bali, it is okay as long you are not in holy sites : e.g temples, mosques, church, cemetery, sacred trees.
In Jakarta, it would be considered as a sign of mental health. People would ask whether you are okay.
In Yogyakarta, an old man would slap you for being disrespect of locals.
In Aceh, you would be taken to prison.
