Excellent. I had failed to do the drop down COM4 issue or press the boot button prior to powering up. This tutorial help me sort the process to success. Thanks!
I just got the RM Pocket in ELRS and a bunch of receivers ER4, ER6 etc. even got some RP2 and RP3 to play with. So I'm super excited to start putting them together. Your videos are so helpful to learn this stuff for those of us stepping away from spektrum and learning to stretch our legs a bit. It's fascinating stuff and definitely adds to enjoyment of the hobby to hse the available tech to expand capabilities. Thanks!
You're very welcome. Enjoy learning. It doesn't take long and when you get it all figured out, you'll be rewarded with an excellent RF link for your models.
Another outstanding video. If you use the write log function as a blackbox recorder, you need both rx voltage (RxBt) and total lipo voltage recording simultaneously. Is there a simple way to do this on the ER6 rx?
I have x2 of the ER5A rx and flashed both using the pwm header pins G/P/ch2/ch3. So the pwm pins do work. You have to hold down the boot button on top.
Hi there! Thanks for the video, it's a great help! :) Can you help me out in a bit different topic, regarding the usage of the CRSF/Sbus connector? I use an ER6 for a different project, where i only use the Sbus to gather data. As your video shows, the ER6 can be powered up by using that connector, it works for me as well. But i still couldn't find answer on the net, that this way of powering can be use without any problem or it is not healthy for the device in case of continuous usage. Can you (or anyone who has knowledge in these receivers) let me know is it safe to use, or it's recommended to use the dedicated pins on the PWM side? Thanks in advance!
I have an Eachine TX16S that I have had for quite a while and I am now getting to the point that I am going to step up to ELRS. Part of my reluctance has been being 78 I have not wanted to step off the dock easily. I figure its time for now or never. I do seem to remember a while back that you said with the right bootloader I could have both Opentx and Edgetx on the radio. My question is am I able to go with an ELRS module having both Otx and Etx installed? BTW right now I only have Otx on the Eachine. I do greatly appreciate the info and directional help your videos give. I also say to anyone that is not on RCVR's Pateron why not, I live on only SS and I am gladly giving up the Starbucks cup for this.
The bootloader allows you to flash OpenTX or EdgeTX, but they're not flashed simultaneously. Also, the most recent version of EdgeTX does not convert .bin to .yml model files on the radio anymore, so it's really time to make a choice. My choice of course is EdgeTX.
I’m new to RadioMaster and ExpressLRS, I just ordered two RadioMaster ER8’s, can I plug and play the new receivers, or should I always flash an update before setting up and flying….?
Awesome video thanks John. My new ER6 receiver arrived at the pick up depot but they can't find it it just disappeared 😢. Hopefully they will refund me or send me a nother one. Thank you very much for sharing
Thank you for the video. I do have a dongle or FTDI and will need to resort to that. New PWM receives do NOT do WIFI... Noet even when enabled via LUA script. The just do not.. So i guess this is the only way to go. I sure wish they would state this somewhere... The manual states they make an access-point.... well. mine don't... Cost me 1.5 days and still no result....
@@RCVideoReviews I thought so as well but it sure fails me how to activate it. It does sort of reboot after 60sec. I think it is firmware. I will flash them usin s dongle this evening and then we will see if it works as advertised.
@oReviews Tested it and you are of course correct. But the thing is.. it needs enough oomph (mA) when it goes into Wifi mode. It consumes 160~170 mA in Wifi mode. My mini bench powersupply was too restrictive... I gradually raised the mA and indeed it even goes into Wifi mode at 4.5Volt provided it has enough mA. Super!
Just to update this very important video, Radiomaster just released their dongle kit that includes the necessary cables to flash their ERX receivers. Among the cables is the 4 pin UART that connects to UART on Dongle (so UART - UART). The RM Dongle also requires a driver, link is provided in the write up.
Thanks John! You've saved me. I mucked up an update of an ER8G. I think I watched this video before, because I had that dongle in my toolkit.

Thank you for a very informative video like always making everything easy for us thank you.😊

Well explained! Thanks for sharing this detailed knowledge.🥰

Not that I'm aware of. These RXs allow one voltage reading. Input rail if vbat is not connected. Vbat if it is connected.

No, that only works on the ER5x, not ER6+. The physical UART pins are removed from CH2/3. This has been confirmed by ELRS and RM.

Love your videos, you make them so easy to understand
Glad you like them!
Thanks for your clarity, do you use the same port on the ER6 you flashed with to connect it to a drone flight controller for betaflight?
Actually, you already answered the question towards the end of the video. Thanks again.
talking on color patterns, on my receivers I like to use Yellow for TX and green for RX
Seria posible usar los pines pwm para los servos y sbus para armar una controladora de vuelo al mismo tiempo?
You can use SBUS and PWM at the same time.

You probably want to flash a binding phrase. I usually flash everything ELRS with the latest firmware.
When you do sbus to say gyro can you still use the rx side to hook like Flaps and Retracts to rx
Absolutely yes.

All Radiomaster ERx receivers provide wifi access.

did you make up the uart to sbus cable?
UART to SBUS was in the box. I did not receive the same cable in the review samples. I purchased these two ER6s retail from RDQ.
so, i found out that radiomaster are not including the sbus cable anymore@@RCVideoReviews
How to recover channel 5 in ER6, I want to use it to control the aileron.
Ch5 is reserved for arming. You can remap it or you can enable 16/2 channels and ignore arming.
I don't know the procedure how to do it.@@RCVideoReviews
Thank you for pointing out the Switch Mode setting.
Can i use this elrs er5a for fpv flight controller
Please mention the rx tx pin
Pre-Crimped wires is key
Those little devils are too small for me. I don't like trying to crimp them that small but I have done it.
@@RCVideoReviews I’ve done it and my crimps are not reliable.

What is the purpose of flashing this receiver
To update the firmware.
how do you get rid of the Chinese writing on your radio ?
Not sure to what you are referring. I don't have any non-english characters on my radio that I'm aware of.
Updating radios and receivers is the most annoying part of this hobby.
Especially when they add must-have features. I feel ya.
For this most rc fixed wing, helicopter and car is dominated by the "traditional" rc tx/rx brands.
