What do you guys like shooting!? I love shooting travel and people :) ALSO - WHO IS GOING TO SIGN UP??
I love shooting landscape and nature! I'm going to sign up!!
Chris Hau Abandoned Places 👻 and Murals 📸
What about the giveaway
When Chris Hau says you have to sign up I sign up. End of discussion. SIGNED UP!!!
Recently I have found a major love for night photography and cinematorgraphy.
Just a note: be really careful your "models" (if used) sign a release that they agree to have their image used anywhere in perpetuity. Some may not want their image used let's say in a HIV ad. Also, seasoned models won't sign in perpetuity as it may be a conflict later... so don't waste your time unless they agree to sign!
I'm new to models, how do you get those documents? A lawyer, write it up yourself? And where do you store it or send it once signed?
Sorry if my question is very "noob-ish"
The Abraham HD its ok! You can find the dicuments on line. Have a copy for yourself snd the model.
That was really helpful advice, thanks for sharing it.
How do you do the release? Download a generic release form and have them sign it?
@@TheCage132 If you're using BlackBox, releases are available when you log in. If you are uploading directly to any of the agencies, they all have releases available as well - be sure to use an appropriate release they supply as there are often big differences from your standard business model release (which often only allows you to use it for your own advertising, not for licensing). Some agencies will let you use another agency's release, so check for that in their FAQs as well.
The thought of putting my clips on a stock photo website never crossed my mind until now! SO MANY CLIPS sitting being unused! Thanks for the tip and as always fantastic video! :)
I actually saw ads for black box a while ago and checked out the site but was a little weary. Now that I’ve seen the owner and you supporting it, I may have to give it a try!
Acrylic Studios please do!!
Congrats on the 100K! You are a inspiration! Keep up the great work, from one creator to another.
Wow! This is amazing! Thank you for the resource!!! :)
Call to action is big in this video, very dope Chris. Thanks for sharing this information!
so rad! thanks for bringing this to attention chris!! and thanks for creating pat!!
This is AWESOME! I just came across this video today, but better than that - I uploaded my first 10 clips to Blackbox over the weekend and they are pending review now. Fingers crossed. Wish me luck!
Just sold my DJI Osmo Pro to a BlackBox partner, Richard Redman for Red Dog Media and he said it's awesome so this video was the cherry on top. Heading over there now. THANKS CHRIS!
Thanks for showing this to me Chris!
Much love man!
Thanks for sharing and supporting the community!
Means a lot! Respect!
Just signed up! I've always hated created multiple accounts and uploading was so time consuming, but this can make the experience way more enjoyable!
Excactly! Game-changing.
Kpnoodles welcome!
It makes uploading stock soooooooo much easier!
When ever i try to upload it says temporary unavailable, how did you upload it?
I just read...NO AUDIO. So does this mean that you we have to edit out all of the audio for the clips to be excepted? That isn't user friendly.
Of all the fantastic YOUUUTUBERS and VLOGGGGERS, Chris is definitely one of my favorites.
Dunna Did It Definitely one of my too. This is awesome lol
Chris, what do you mean by "clips"... 5 seconds? 10? 1 minute? And should these clips include full editing with transitions, effects, etc? And what about audio? And what resolution? Thanks.
Loved that vlog Chris!! Definitely getting into Blackbox! I have 5yrs of content just sitting on my hardrive. So happy to hear there is finally a simple platform!! Game changer for sure! Keep up the good work
Thanks so much for the tip Chris, just registered to Black Box today and i'm about to go shoot everyday to get those stock footage clips, thanks for the inspiration, one of your best videos so far :)
Damn $250 over the next 5 years? Let me go tell my boss I quit.
Extra clarification. That is for one clip. So uploaded 10,000 good clips clips x $250.00 = potentially 2.5 million / 5 years. Could be $500,000.00 a year if your clips were good enough. Hope that helps.
That's crazy money.
lol. I was just making a joke, but thanks for the clarification. How long do these clips need to be?
that's the potential per clip, it adds up
Clips lengths are 5-59 secs but 10-15 is the sweet spot
this sounds amazing! thank you so much for letting us know about it! :)
i hit that bell. today i did it. great video chris. thanks!
Now this is interesting... Congrats on 100K bru
South African???
WOW.. thanks Chris this was exactly what i was looking for. The best part is that Pat has a little gray on him..as do i.
I watch your videos always but am always reluctant to post or comment on anything thing because this all seems to be a "young mans game" i know its not but when you watch guys like yourself and Pete and Matt (who still have their hair) some of us older guys get a little intimidated .
Signing up for BlackBox as we speak. Thanks again.
Kevin Emans there’s something u hv that young pple don’t and that’s ‘experience’...I hope u go out there and achieve ur dreams and never let the age factor get into the way. Good luck Kevin.
MilesAndHeights thanks for that. I'll just keep pushin and see what happens. But you're comment is very very much appreciated. Cheers
Kevin Emans Chris is the young dog and I am the old dog!!
Absolutely love this video! Thank you for a game-changing tip! Question, should the videos we upload be edited already? Or would raw uncut footage be fine too? Guess it all depends on what the buyer is looking for. And is there a limit to how much you can upload?
This is amazing!
It would be great to have some insight about some technical stuff accepted like codecs, formats, framerate, bitrate, just to know if what we are uploading has any chances of being used.
I should do a part 2 - or this video would be 25 minutes long.
Gustavo A. Mendoza watch for the CURATION GUIDE email.
Yes! We need help with the boring technical details!
did you get the welcome email with the tech doc links?
Hi Pat. Not yet. I just got the email confirming that I was accepted (I´m glad for that!) and the passwort which I already changed. Nothing else.
Should you color grade the footage? Upload LOG footage? Standard profiles?
Just a subtle grade that people won't notice and looks natural.
Awesome channel and sweet content Chris! Just signed up with Blackbox and looking forward to watching more of your vblogs! Cheers from Sacramento, CA!
sooo much valueable info Chris! thanks a lot!
Other RUclips videos are stating that people in the real world are only getting $1 per clip and truly exceptional clips maybe $50 so how and where do the $200 figures come from. Can that be shown and proven?
I was thinking the same thing.
Because he said in this video "$200 over 5 yrs".... Which is $40 per year. And he has a knack for choosing topical and or conceptual content (and shooting it well) that buyers want to buy, so that puts him in a high bracket.
HAL - No the turtle shot was shown as making $200 for that one shot only.
5 Star I’m talking about timespan
because with blackbox your clips are uploaded on ALL the stock platforms, not only just one. So maybe multiply that average 1$ for all the platforms together.
I've also tried using stock but having to separately upload tens of GB of footage and photos to different websites is insane time consuming, given that you have to set descriptions, tags, model releases, locations for each of them
I can't believe I've never thought about stock before.. this has been seriously helpful and awesome!! 😁
Stock is amazing! I've been selling for a few years now and its a great way to bring in passive income! I recently discovered blackbox as well and its a game changer for stock footage creators!
What is a good length for stock footage?
Nice video Chris! I should definitely get into doing this
Just signed up for the service. Thanks for sharing this Chris!
Watching this video in 2020 to earn money on lockdown, thanks Chris. Lol can't think generating stocks sitting at Home.😬
Same here
300$ made during lockdown with clips about my face
@@danienteaqualcosa you are probably very good-looking
Leo Goggins I don’t think so, in my opinion I just made some useful clips ... that’s it 🤗
Just signed up! I have crazy footage of two Komodo Dragons fighting in Indonesia I'm ready to sell! Ha! But in reality the footage I submit of my neighbors cat will probably sell better.
Hey. An update on how the footage sold? Is it a good website or platform?
Any updates about this?
Did you end up selling it? How much did you make?
Thank you Chris!!! I watched your video today and signed up the same day! Already have two videos (Drone shots) up on the site! Very excited about the possibilities of stock footage! Again, thank you thank you thank you!
This is a huge help - thank you so much for letting us know about this - it could seriously up our game when it comes to freeing our schedules up for more creative work!
Should I color correct and grade footage before i upload it?
Tobias Aronsen yes!
And does it have to be muted, Patrick? Because all the stock videos I see online are muted..
no don't grade it, you can do basic adjustment but the person who will buy it will probably want to match it with his edit, can't work if its already graded
I can see situations where both graded or ungraded would make much more sense than the other. Is the main selling point of the stock video the content of the footage i.e. "woman dancing on balcony", or the aesthetic of the footage i.e. "woman dancing on balcony with dreary blue hues everywhere"?
you have to realize that people buying $200 clips are professional that work for companies and these guys know how to grade and don't care about blue hues because they gonna do it 10 better than you when they gonna put up their edit
Since a lot of people were thanking Chris for giving them this idea 3 years ago. I wanna know how many of them actually succeeded in the making and what was your experience ?
It is very rare to sell clips for that amount of money. You have to have tons of footage to even make 100-200$ per month.
@@billijsc thank you for sharing your experience. I definitely had doubts and was thinking that this can't be that easy but now I can see the clear picture.
This is just GREAT! And I have so many footage that I had no idea where and how to use it. Thanks Chris for introducing blackbox!🙏
Chris you're attitude and energy towards everything is so amazing! Im always so inspired just to be a better person after watching your videos.
Does anyone know what would happen to the media thats uploaded through the Blackbox service should they ever cease trading? As I understand it footage uploaded via Blackbox, is uploaded to their (Blackbox's own) accounts on Stock sites, therefore if they were to cease trading or be banned for whatever reason I assume any footage you have uploaded through the service would be gone? Can anyone clarify?
I believe it would be taken down but they state that they do not take ownership of your footage so I guess you could just put it back up if you had the time.
Thanks for your reply, thats what I suspected. I have emailed them to find out for sure. I am just starting to upload my own stock portfolio and my worry is having "all my eggs in one basket" as it where. Sure it would be easier initially to use Blackbox to get on as many sites as possible, however if for whatever reason things started going belly up, I wouldn't really have control. I mean, just imagine if you have 10,000 clips uploaded through them, earning you a nice little income and then "pop" they disappeared overnight....or they start creating their own little algorithms for highlighting certain content....at least if you have your own accounts on the major stock channels you are effectively spreading the risk a little....I guess its a case of convenience vs security. I am always careful about becoming to overly reliant on a single service....if you have everything uploaded to just one service, they kind of have you by the short and curlys...I have been burned a few times as a result of that!
Hey Sebski22 in the unlikely event that BB "goes down" you still own your content and you can do what you like with it. But we have no plans to fail.
Thanks for taking the time to reply. Do you know what the process would be for creators to retreive footage back from the stock sites you have it uploaded too?....or would we need to keep all our uploads stored locally just in case.
you should always keep your content archived, hopefully redundant backups
So is $40 a year the average a clip makes? (You mention $250 over 5 years quite a few times...) So you need around 650 videos making $40 a year to make 2k a month and I'd imagine a lot of videos wouldn't make anything. Just guestimating what kind of upload frequency you'd need to actually hit 2k a month....
Yeah - you need alot of clips uploaded. His footage was 4k too.
Building a big portfolio of solid clips is the key.
It depends a lot on what you shoot. Dont let him fool you, those numbers are likely way over estimates. To put it in perspective. I would consider myself about average to slightly above average on my stock footage. I have 1500-1800 clips on Pond5, Shutterstock, esp.ghetty, storyblocks, adobe stock, and a few other minor stock sites. I sell about 5-6 videos a month. Now I dont shoot models and high volume niches, as its just a hobby for me and I dont have the time to really sit down and work out shoots.
Hey Jared, I really don't think Chris Hau has reason to try to "snow" you and neither do I. A big and diverse portfolio of high quality clips will generate more than 5-6 sales a month. And if you have such a portfolio you could average $250/clip over 5 years. Maybe check in with the BlackBox Members Facebook Group and ask around. The numbers quoted in the video were examples of similar types of clips that have sold at those levels. Not every clip will sell and we do not guarantee sales. What we do is give you a friction free way to get your content to market and also be part of a great community of like minded people. I'm the first person to admit that BlackBox is not for everyone!
From what I've seen and read on other forums, the average income for stock footage is closer to $5-10 per clip per year. You can definitely make more for higher production value clips, but people making $40 per clip per year is extremely, extremely rare.
Thanks so much for sharing Chris! I’m definitely going to try some stock video now!
This video makes me happy! So many smiles and good vibes! Thanks for sharing😁😁
-60% agency and -15% commission of blackbox. No thanks
- 5% paypal commission, you work for everyone else but you
@@insanedb how much you are making by yourself selling videos directly to clients ?
@@Tienuyan i have my own ecommerce, so far I have sold over $50k on passive income, I sold film grains and filter for video, why?
Chris, thank you so much for doing a video like this! I want to get out of the 8-5 grind and I'm hoping I can take what you showed and use it!!
Don't quit your job to do stock, or you'll be eating worms.
Wow this is really cool! Thanks for telling us about it!!
Thanks so much for this Chris! Have been thinking about going into stock video as a young creator, but have had no idea how to go about it. Blackbox is bound to make this process so much easier, thanks for sharing! Keep up the great work, and know that your work really does make a difference to other people's lives 😊💪🏼
I think it's time we collaborated ;)
trip to toronto end of July? ;)
I'll join in too ;)
I think so too!
You've inspired me to take up photography and videography again... than you so much :)
Darsh !!! Chris inspired me to actually start
Definitely going to check this out. Thank you Chris for sharing. Its so nice to find more opportunities as someone who is new to cinematography.
Awesome video chris!
Just a quick question: If I submit a clip to a stock footage site and have already used it in a video of mine that's uploaded to youtube, will I encounter problems? Thanks a lot!
No problems, the video is your anyway. You can do it 😎
USE MODEL RELEASE FORMS... Dont get sued....
YESSS 100 percent.
eze creative if you don’t your footage will be rejected by the agencies
Any Easy way to get forms on the Phone?
Great stuff! I'll be checking out blackbox...thanks for the tip.
Chris you're awesome! Love that your channel is for giving hard to find tips and tricks to everyone! Keep it up
Upload stock videos yourself, what happens when Blackbox goes under? They will have all your videos on stock sites that you will not make any money on. And you cant do anything about it since you are not the person who uploaded/submitted it.
DaveFilm that’s the question I have. Is black box claiming IP ownership of this footage?
@@hautehussey you own your footage, BlackBox is not going under anytime soon
they adress that on their website. you will have all right to the footage you've uploaded to blackbox
What exactly is a stock video master? I have been a stock shooter for many years in Pond5, Shutterstock, and Storyblocks. Some stock shooters have 100k clips. Making money from stock footage requires many thousands of clips just to go over $1k a month. Competion is fierce because there are millions of clips available. Pond5 is the only place where you can set your own prices. Companies that gave these services before failed. Many stock video shooters lost their money. They could not handle the amount of data transfer required . Today is even worse. Top clients want 4k/4.2.2/prores and those files are huge. If you sell a clip for $200 in Pond 5 you get $100 (if you sell it). Competition will have a similar clip for $30. I went to the website ... no info? .... This looks as a start-up operation in diapers. My comments may be negative but it is not as easy as you say. Who are the staff of Blackbox. Do you have a booth in NAB?
Thank you. i was thinking the same. People can be easily deceived if its says earn money :D . But just follow your passions and do what you love doing, you'll end up making money while enjoying it.
we are committed to running a solid business that puts creators first, I am a creator too and i won't have it any other way
Good luck with your venture .... I went to your new front page. You keep 15%! 15% of my sales to your company is just too much. Somebody making $1k a month that's $150. For $75.month I can have a fiber optic 1000 mbits connection at home. ""business that puts creators first" .... I do not think so. Good bye Mr. Pat.
I think you misunderstand the numbers. We take 15% of the NET sale. And we do a lot of the work so you don't have to. I am sorry you don't see value in what we are doing.
I understand perfectly. You pocket 15% of our payout. Happy fishing.
THANKS CHRIS! THATS SO MOTIVATING AND INSPIRING!
I'm trying to sign up now! Chris you should do a video on how to shoot the best stock footage (settings and all that) :)
The whole black box thing seems a little sketchy and scammy... all the videos on it seem to be payed promotions. I can’t find any honest reviews
They are clearly on a drive to get noticed.
Just out of curiosity, what feels sketchy/scammy to you?
sorry you feel that way, I'd be happy to speak with you anytime and I think we can clear up your impression
I totally agree! Hahhaha nice one
Robert Hardy to good to be true maybe?
blackbox has actually crashed when I tried to register.
Keep trying! They are doing their best to keep up with you guys haha
Hey! Yes, the traffic from this video has been strong so we are working on more CPUS for the cloud site. Sorry for the inconvenience!!
That's why I couldn't get on last night!! That's amazing.
i registered sucessfully but cannot upload anything since i cant find the upload tab.. ?! PAT?
yeah im trying to sign up but its just giving me a blank page
Love this! Have been planning to jump into stock videography, and after an epic trip to the Dominican Republic with some nice 4k drone footage, I'm doing it.
Registered for Blackbox with your referral link & subbed!
HI Chris, Great to hear about this, thanks so much.
This is awesome Chris thank you so much for sharing man !
Signed up dude, love Pats mission for the company, hopefully I can make some sales!
Hey Chris, I recently discovered your channel and I do love the stuff you‘re putting out there and the positivity you‘re spreading!! Thanks for that! I want to know if it‘s better to upload the footage unedited or edited. Thanks in advance. Keep your work up :) :) :)
This a ton Chris! I love your videos and this one in particular. Right after watching your video i signed up and registered on Blackbox and word on the street is so have tons of others who have seen this video. THANK YOU, THNAK YOU, THANK YOU. And congrats on your silver play button! You earned it!
Totally awesome video.. I am a stock photographer since 2007.. yeap.. full time.. I actually did few tutorials about it. I started getting the itch last few months to try a bit of video for stock as I am also on youtube.. I am learning video so I thought naturally I could upload it to stock. Stock world is amazing and I am super happy I started back then and I continue uploading all photos there... Thanks for sharing this video, again... absolutely love it.
That company sounds awesome! Right now it’s such a pain to upload lots of clips. I use 3 different stock sites and you have to use an ftp and upload to each site individually. It takes forever. Then you have to title, keyword and make sure everything matches up. Also you can upload timelapses!!!
How would you feel about having 1 company in control of all your footage?....I am just starting out in stock and I am a little concerned that if anything went wrong with Blackbox in the future, any revenue could disappear overnight. The concept sounds great, I am just worried about the consequences of not having a back up plan.
Sebski22 I completely understand that concern for sure. I’m still looking into black box now. I always keep all my submitted stock footage on a hard drive and backed up on a separate hard drive as well. That way if something was to happen I still have the clips. It would be a pain, as usual, to resubmit everything but it’s better than losing all your footage in the case of something happening with giving all your footage to one company.
Mike Perea Photography exactly why I built BlackBox!
What three (3) stock sites were you uploading to?
Asad Naveed I upload to Adobe, Shutterstock and storyblocks
This sounds very intersting, we have to try this with our footage from our worldtrip. Thank you for introducing blackbox. What do you think will be most worth uploading. Landscape, landmarks or drone shots?
it doesn't cost, so just upload everything, worst case it gets rejected.
Gonna check that blackbox site ;)
thank you for sharing it with us :)
Just signed up thanks for the video !!!
Thank you for the great content and the information on Stock Video. I will think of ways to grab extra video now and also involve my family and let the start shooting stock videos while they are running around in various places.
Thanks Chris! And Pat! Definitely gonna sign up with Blackbox..
Great tip Chris! Congrats on the 100k. Keep it up Gouldylox
THANK YOU so much for this video!! I have been looking to get into stock footage (mostly with my drone footage) for the past few months now but the whole process has been so overwhelming. Very much looking forward to submitting my content to this site!!
Thanks for this Chris, you as well Pat. The Distillery is always a sweet location (I run my thing just a five minute walk North). Off to Blackbox to add another iron to the fire it seems!
Time to start digging through my archive files! Very cool, thanks for the vid and heads up Chris!
Nice video! Thanks for the stock video info too great to know we can make money that way!
Pat and Chris thanks so much! Blackbox 💻
Dope! I've thought about stock footage before, but it fell off my radar. Now it's on! Thanks for the reminder!
Turbo Life go smash it! Turn on the turbo on turbo life :)
I sind up yet. love your work Chris!
Working on an interview where I need B-Roll literally right now and I'm looking at some of the sites... the price ranges from 70-300$ per clip in 1080p.
Thank you for uploading this video; I'm gonna be looking into Blackbox real soon.
I'm closing on the $4000 mark in sales with Blackbox. I'm averaging around $200/month. Not great but not bad either. When my regular work is slow, I shoot stock. It keeps me sharp and I love the passive income. Thumbs up to Chris and Pat.
Chris, I caught this yesterday right after you uploaded. Went to the site via your link and after an hour of trying finally got signed up. I knew it had to be traffic overloading the servers. So glad you brought this to us. You are the bomb!!! Can’t wait to start. Heading out shoot today.
thanks Bob for your patience!
Very cool Chris...thanks for sharing! I can't wait get started! My wife and I have traveled the United States for the past year and a half and I'm sure we must have a few things in the hard drive we can put to work immediately. We are about to start an adventure in Alaska so I'm positive we'll get some great content from there! Safe travels!
You guy are great! Love watching you and know you have tons of excellent content! Good Luck!
Found this very helpful, and this is my first time seeing your videos...you have my sub and thanks for the great advice!
Sorry, I can't get to the register page right now but, I was wondering is it free or do you have to pay to register at black box?
Thanks for the lead. HDs full of footage, cameras to shoot with and just got a new computer so I am ready and have been waiting for something like this. IF everything works out I am all in.
Awesome tip! =D Congratulations to 100k ! you are worth it! 👏😀
This is awesome, I certainly see myself signing up. I’m curious tho, should the clips I upload already be color graded, or raw so that the buyer may have the option to color grade it as they see fit.
this is great! thanks chris and pat for sharing this! sometimes i have to delete my stock because i dont have a lot of storage..
nb : done signed up! :))
Chris , always impressed with your photography and film-making skills, learning a lot from you and applying it to my channel. Thanks
Love this! Do you have any tips for getting photography work published or noticed? I am finally at the point where I am ready to take the leap and go full time and quit my 5am-2pm job, but not quite sure how to get that initial traction to get started in order to do that.
Great video! Thanks for the tips!
Hello chris,
I'm new to photography and have seen this as a medium to raise money for my first DSLR, but that aside.
My questions are
1. Should thee stock videos be editted before uploaf. And how much edit is necessary
2. Any tip on the average duration?
3. What type of clip is okay? Slow mo, timelapse, open shot, or just a static clip with less movements and angles..
Hope I'm not late for answers.. Thanks
So stoked! Thanks for sharing this awesomeness!!!
Certainly a good conversation going, but quick question. I understand model releases, and most property releases as they relate to shooting in known locals (like Luxor hotel Vegas). However, how it work if Pat is shooting recognizable buildings (apartments, exterior of the large windowed brick building at 5:44) isn't a property release required from the owners? thanks.
Very Interesting Chris, Thanks Pat for the sharing.
