For the past 3 years, I have planted my sweet potatoes in metal filing cabinets. Last year, I got 75 pounds of sweet potatoes! They loved the heat of the cabinet and just flourished. It was nice to reuse something that would have landed in the land fill and get a successful crop that was so easy to do. I enjoyed watching the vining go over the cabinet and all over the backyard gardens. Bonus, the vines helped keep the weeds at bay as well.

@@nicolephillips4320 I did take the drawers out, making sure that there is a bottom to the cabinet or the dirt a would fall out. I filled it up with some smaller logs on the bottom, some straw, used up potting mix and a few bags of new soil to keep it light for a growing medium. The sweet potatoes were various sizes from small to large! Best harvest to date. I can't garden directly into the ground anymore because of severe back issues, so this is one way I can still enjoy gardening. Everything is in raised beds, large pots, bags or Greenstalks now. I also use the metal drawers to cut grow flowers in or herbs. These file cabinets work great.

@@nicolephillips4320 the cabinet sits on its backside, upright, so where the drawers would be is facing the sky.

Suddenly feeling a lot better about my sweet potato planting last week 🤣 My slips weren't looking great but I also didn't have my grow bags yet, so I stuck them in water so they wouldn't die. Then after I got them planted, the only part of my garden that fit them was partially shaded. Now I'm feeling confident that those were both were actually good things to do for them! Yay!

I’m growing my sweet potatoes in grow bags. I saved some of the plant from last year and had it in the house as a house plant. I kept making new plants from it. When I planted it there were little sweet potatoes. I got a good harvest last year, so I put them in the same spot. I just started another bag because I found some slips on a sweet potato in the house from the store. You guys are great. So much fun. 😊

You need the gopher spike that vibrates. They don’t like the vibrations in the ground. Pinwheels also vibrate the ground slightly when they spin. If you can find the hole opening sprinkle some hot pepper powder in it. Next year put hardware cloth in the ground around your borders. They can go above ground and back under to get past the hardware cloth but then maybe a predator gets them while they are above ground. I put it around my entire property, vertically buried and horizontally. Hardware cloth is usually 25-50 cents per square foot.

I'm growing sweet potatoes in Birdies and your grow bags this year. I started my slips in my kitchen from sweet potatoes I bought in the grocery store produce dept. I also kept mine covered with shade cloth for two weeks. I live in the central valley of CA zone 9b. The micro climate in my yard is very hot on hot days because my home is in a track housing development so I use shade cloth a lot. I built a pannel trellis for them to climb on. Right now they all look healthy. I'm excited to see what they do when I get to harvest them. I love to watch these test videos you share. Can't wait to see what your results are, too! Thanks for sharing!! I'malso very interested in the gopher stakes you're testing!

My sweet potatoes went in 3 weeks ago. Zone 8 GA. We've already had a couple days of 100+ degrees. They're taking off.
I started my own slips from last year's minimal harvest.
I didn't do nearly as good a job at loosening the soil as you did, but I did improve on last year. I've been dumping grass clippings on that spot since I pulled them last fall. I tilled that in back in April.. now it looks like there were never clippings there.
    My ground eats organic matter.
Most of my garden is in grow bags...
    a few pots,
some 18 gallon totes (squash, low in the bin, we have wicked winds over here)
and 5 of those stone looking, above the knee high, round planters.
I'm starting asparagus crown in two of them.. marigolds, lots of them in another (my transplants come out of that one)
and the other 3 are catching all my summer garden pruning debris on top of native dirt (can't call it soil) preparing for my winter garden.. I want broccoli, cauliflower and dwarf peas in those.

I lobe my cattle panel arcs! If you want it a little wider to have room to walk through after everything starts climbing on it I space mine wider but then lift it off the ground 18inches to 2foot off the ground on both sides! Still get the great height and plenty of width to walk through when the plants that are climbing it go crazy! 😅

I’m growing sweet potatoes for the first time this year. I have no clue what variety, I just grew slips off the organic ones that I buy at Costco 😆 I have a very short growing season so I don’t anticipate a major harvest but our summers are very hot and we have a lot of sun hours up here in a northern state so 🤞🏼

For the first time growing sweet potatoes I used a grow bag, an experiment. It turned out well but there are things I am going to do for the new growing season in Tasmania, Australia in my cool to temperate zone. Working on a micro climate to build up the heat for their desired growing conditions. Love experimenting in the garden. I have to work out if I can grow out of my zone. Just gone into winter now, can't wait for spring in October.

    That's it!
It seems that soft soil is best.
    My soil was packed
I couldn't even fit my fingers in, let alone my hands.
So I could only make micro mini carrots😭
It was the size of my little finger
I also tend to squeeze my onigiri very tightly. 🍙
    Please try the onigiri too.
Looks like I need to pile up some soil.
Each time you water it, the soil gets firmer and harder.
    What shall I do
You are harvesting big, big fruits. (👀!)
Touching the fruit brings back a nostalgic sound😏🚼🎶
Is that how you shade potatoes?

It is a constant disappointment with friends and you-tubers: these men build a great, fulfilling life and once all the hard work is done and rewards are coming, here comes the “girlfriend”. And she gets to decorate his home, decide his sleep schedule and actually takes him away from the things that made him prosperous.
    In this case: his garden.
Kevin, I hope you see this.
This girlfriend will crush you out.
I see it around me with successful men that fall for it.
Here are the crush out steps: hard working man, ready to get his rewards.
Here comes the girlfriend. She wants you to work less.
    She becomes wife.
    Has a kid. Two.
    You have to work more.
She complains you just grew apart.
    Here comes the divorce.
She keeps the garden , the kids and half of everything.
She moves in the boyfriend. Your garden becomes lawn.
And you are back to your patio garden.
Hard working men: the girlfriend that comes in your life to decorate your home, is the girlfriend that will destroy your life and you will never get to your retirenment.
    Just stop please.
I have seen it too many times.
This is the wife of a successful man, that has been for 20 years and we both started with nothing.
Please believe me: if you are already successful , just stay single.
