  • I traveled just over 3 hours north of where I live in Washington state to Merritt, BC to visit Chase @EdisonMotors . I wanted to see what all of the buzz was about their Diesel/Electric Hybrid.

This is close to how locomotives work. The biggest difference is that locomotives don't use battery packs.

Diesel-electric propulsion is nothing new. It was used already in the 1930's. Almost all big cruise ships - and even smaller ships today use the system and here we talk about really big power. Some big earthmoving machines also use it. Like on locomotives - a lot more practical than mechanical drive and more fuel efficient than hydrostatic drive.
But without batteries you don't have a hybrid.

Just remember children a little older than Remi are digging the precious metals to make the batteries. I’m sorry we are not there yet. Maybe fifty years. An electric car catches fire. It takes 8 hours to put the fire out. I can’t imagine how long it would take to put that truck fire out. Sorry I’ll say it again we are not their yet.

While I agree with you on pretty much everything you said, this is a hybrid. Don’t you want innovation that is done by the people and not big government funded mega corporations? The government is pushing electric vehicles don’t you want an alternative?

@@DauminiqueTheDumpTruckDriver Yes but there is more weight and less power in that truck now with all the batteries. As I said we are not in a position to put these on the road. Why would anyone except a liberal mind that 5 year olds are digging for the precious metals. The batteries are only good for 5 years at best. What do we do with the old batteries. Just run with what we have.

@@user-hb4ed8ej1r There aren't enough 5 year olds in the world to supply us with the quantity of Cobalt that we are currently using, so NO, 5 year olds are not mining Cobalt. Every major company in the world is sourcing their Cobalt from Responsible sources that do not use Child Labor. Interestingly, there is more Cobalt used in the refining industry than is used in all the worlds Electric Vehicles. Additionally, the Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries, like will be used in future Edison trucks, do not contain any Cobalt, so any concerns about child labor are moot if the batteries are Lithium Iron Phosphate.
Another note: Cobalt is being used less, and less, in Electric Vehicle batteries, as a matter of fact, 50% of Tesla's EVs are using Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries.

@@bbcooter388 really we are watching two different news sources then. It is not just kobalt being mined. Again after the battery dies what happens to it? We do not need electric cars in America. The infrastructure cannot handle it. Electric cars and trucks belong on train platforms! Not on our roads. America is the cleanest country in the world because of the emission standards.

@@user-hb4ed8ej1r The batteries in EVs are 90% to 95% recyclable. There are several companies that are currently recycling EV and other Lithium batteries, Redwood Materials and Li-cycle are two that come to mind. Additionally, many EV batteries have a second life in Grid Power battery systems as well as Off-Grid Solar systems. Many off-grid Solar systems are using the Tesla battery modules to store energy. I even have two Tesla batteries in my RV to store Solar energy and to power my Inverter.
By-the-way, I drive an EV and my wife and I thoroughly enjoy driving it. I recommend you at least take a test drive in one before you completely discount their validity.

It could be used that way BUT it can also be on charge during down time if it is a single operator truck. Like the hybrid cars and pickups.

So you are not getting a electric truck because it's powered by a cat diesel engine 😂 where's the benefit just turn up the fuel and hammer down. Cat's forever.roll the coal.💯🎯👍😁😂🤣

What is the benefit? Just stick with diesel.

The engine only runs about 1/3 of the time. Much more torque with electric motors driving it.

    Zero emissions is a fantasy.
And I don’t think I know of a truck that is used 4 or 5 years and thrown it away. Causes me to wonder where the old trucks we love came from……
