I would like to than all of you for your encouraging comments and kind words.❤ When I first started on RUclips, I expected that there would be more trolls but so far, I have experienced almost no such comments. The kind words from all of you is what I would miss the most.
When I edited this video, I felt like the content of this video is more trough that what I had realized. I spent most of Saturday filming and recording the voice over and all of Saturday cooped up in my office editing the video. All the time the farm and my family where neglected and that Sunday it was Mother’s Day so that just made the guilt worse. Running a farm, having a full-time job and being a good father and husband while on the same time being a full time RUclipsr is not sustainable and so things need to change. I have been taking the camera with me when I have been out working but it will be less videos from us in the future. I am working on a plan for how I can make videos that are quicker to edit but for now we don’t have a clear plan.

Hi Eric, my tip would be : do not let YT get a source of stress for you. If making videos spoils the joy you could get by just doing your farm-related tasks, then the meaning of the whole exercise is drifting, and this is basically what you have noticed and if I understand you well, you are not totally happy about that. Getting attention sure can be satisfying, but is it worth becoming a pursuit in itself ? Whatever way you decide : I like your calm demeanor and the honest way the show the reality. 👍

I enjoy your videos on the small farm life in Norway. Thank you for these. You can speak in either Norwegian or English, that would be fine by me as I understand both. But I understand that English opens up your market to a much larger worldwide audience (there’s a reason the Scandinavian countries require children to take years of English). My family moved to America from the Bergen and Skien (Telemark) areas because of the availability and lack of good farming ground in Norway (less than 3% is farmable ground there). So my hat is off to you, your wife and family for taking on such a hard endeavor. Keep plodding along, keep your spirits up, and lastly, you are Norwegian, and stubbornness runs in our genes…. We don’t give up so easily! God helg til dere!

    Dear Eric and family
I've been watching for about 8 months and have really enjoyed your channel. I come from a rural village and understand what real farming is (real work!) and that the big payoffs are never in money, but in community and in the land and animals.
I think your insight into RUclips "gurus" is right on - they are there to serve themselves not you.
I think your decision to put videoing on the back burner for the most part is sound. You need to stop listening to everyone else and listen to your heart. You want to farm. So farm! Give it a year of really focusing on it and uploading only when you can. I'm subscribed so I won't miss a video if you post ( *Hint to others!* )
    Wishing you the best

I really respect your efforts and all that you have done to try and grow your channel. Mabey its time to take a step back and instead of analyzing and listening to people selling their seminars and tips on how to make it big on you tube that you actually look at what has made other homesteading or homes out in nature a great sucess for these creators. Right now we are living in a crazy world where half the population are dreaming about quitting the rat race and moving out to the country / wilderness. I follow these type of channels and I do it because their content is both inspiring and very relaxing. In this video you had the perfect scene and that was around 15.07-15.16 and this my friend is what people love love love to see. Quiet nature scenes without talking and mabey some suitable calming background music. You should do more of this which can also be combined with your daily routine down on your farm. Dont give up my friend you are living in the most beautiful country in the world and building the type of life than many can only dream of and that deserves to be shown to the world . Im proud of you and your family and wish you lots of luck for the future 🙏🏻🍀🍀🥰

Hello! Huge farming/homesteading consumer here, I just wanna say I definitely love you’re videos and the algo did push me towards you’re channel! 1 thing I would say about everyone else trying to do the same type of videos is that very few seem to be in a cold climate! I am. So I will always look for homesteads in the snow first and I’m sure many others have this issue with all the tropical homestead videos out there! I think you have a breakthrough coming 😁

Hi, I wanted to offer my perspective as well, maybe it helps: I only watch youtube videos that inform me on topics I find interesting or make me feel good / dream of another life. I think to be successful with a homestead-channel you have to do one or both. What works often is showing projects and explaining what you do (and ask for advice if you don't know something) combined with beautiful nature/family-life/animal clips. The reasons why you've not been really successful yet could be: 1) The projects that you show often feel more like a chore and not like a problem that you are excited to find a great solution for. 2) Your narration style sounds almost a bit bored or as if you were reading a script. Maybe that's also because of your norwegian voice pattern, but it increases the impression that you are just working on chores. 3) The bought stock-clips are really detrimental to the feeling you want to transport: I want to see authentic beauty and not fake happiness.
Now don't get me wrong: your life sounds incredibly full, juggling a full-time job, a family, a farm, and youtube and I admire you for keeping up with all that. But I have the suspicion that the overload from this gets into the youtube-videos and influences this chore-like impression that I get. I think to make youtube work you need to learn to get both a feeling for what your viewers want and the technical/filming/storytelling-skills that are required to transport these things. Learning this will take time though, and if money is the main objective right now it's faster and safer to rely on the skills you already have (your day job). Good fortune to you! :)

Couldn't agree more,it's not the best approach to intentionally make YT videos only to get more views, and earn a penny. Also true that he sounds more depressed than excited on daily routines. All the best channels are the result of one enjoying what they do,and then willing to share it with the others.

Hi Erik. Think yr doing the right thing. Focussing on yr farm, yr family and maybe quitting yr 2nd jobs, should be yr aim. I watch yr channel cos it,s interesting seeing how a farm in Norway works. And always find you genuine and intelligent which adds to the experience. Find the best videos, where you are trying to do something on the farm...laying a fence, clearing a field etc. The videos should always show progress which hopefully will come in line with making progress with the farm. So this should help forvthe future, focussing on the farm....My other point is that rare breeds are quite popular, whether for meat or just for keeping stock to sell...Maybe this could be something else to develop, as you touched on in the video...Anyway best of luck and agree the way forward is to develop the farm...

This, exactly! I've been thinking the same after publishing a few videos. Thanks for being so honest and sharing this.
If you want to use the animals for something useful, I recommend watching Talasbuans videos. They feed the sheep outdoors in the snow at different locations in the field where they grow hay in the summer, so the feces and urine are trampled into the snow and melt into the grass in the spring, resulting in better crops. You also have chickens that can follow afterward, and then you can potentially grow your own vegetables directly on the ground (unless there's flooding...). You might already follow them, I don't know. There's a lot to be inspired by.
There's so much fun you can have with a farm, but it has to come from your own interests and desires. I don't think you'll lose followers by doing things a bit differently on RUclips going forward. I enjoy the content you create and will continue to follow as long as you keep at it. Hope you and your family find balance in your daily life ahead!

    Eric,
So was finde ich gut.

    Dear Norwegian farmer,
I've been following your channel for a while now and I'm always so impressed by your work. You're living my dream! I am 47 years old and still live in the city, so it's likely that my dream will remain just a dream. I envy you for the chance to raise your children in such a beautiful and healthy place. I also envy you for being able to pursue your passions and for showing me how it's all done.
I watch many people who have been like me but who have had the courage to give up city life for a simpler life in the middle of nature. I can only imagine how difficult it is to financially support such a business. In fact, money is the only thing preventing me from realizing my dream. But if you stop, who will I learn from? Who will give me hope that I can do it too? RUclips is a tool, you have to use it, don't let it use you. I like it when people build, how they build, how much they enjoy building... the rest is nothing.
