wow, I thought I was learning Operator until you set 25 clips and 'Launch', and realized I was being enlightened on how to use Ableton period. thank you very much.
Im just on the 4th minute and i feel I've already learned something. thanks for sharing that. Operator is my favourite ableton synth too! My dream is to have a hardware synth exactly like Operaror 😁
Damn, not getting the same sound at all using Ableton Live 11, no punchy kick or heavy percussion sounds -- I don't know why they keep changing things like this, makes it very difficult to learn established techniques. Fantastic technique though man, that's some killer percussion right there!
@@rhinocore thanks, will do! Support have confirmed that this is actually a bug, but I'll try that as a workaround. It's not like operator doesn't work, it just no longer works like it used to, making a lot of old sound designs tutorials redundant (in terms of replicating exact sounds anyway, not in terms of learning the controls etc).
No, it's a bug in the software. Support never got back to me about it, I brought it up on Reddit and other people had the exact same issue. I haven't actually tried to recreate it or follow this tutorial in a while, maybe I will if I have time and report back later, but to my knowledge it's still an issue (if you're having the same problem, we can assume that it's still there, the filter update made the synth behave differently).@@fkapb
Supercool tutorial! What version of live are u using tho cus trying to replicate this in live 11 sounds like shit unfortunately, ive tried everything but cant seem to get the same full beefy sound that u got goin, mine sounds alot more harsh and thin
What device is triggering the parameters on Operator? An LFO? The clips are being triggered by follow actions right? This vid totally inspired me I thank you keep it up this pure gold!
Haha, sorry. I actually reuploaded this from a previous version where it was already darker. Somewhere along the production line, my videos are being given this dark matte sheen. Will try to sort it out by next time!!
Ableton have confirmed that there is a bug affecting the parameters of Operator for the latest version, making it difficult to replicate old tutorials unfortunately. Not sure what their plan is but hopefully it'll be solved.
Yeah mine has very little low end at all actually, not really replicating these percussive sounds -- the initial square wave on operator A doesn't have any punchiness to it and then the rest of the modulation obviously doesn't work the same way, I wonder if it's down to using different versions of ableton
@@toneparticle I have, yes. I'm not getting any of the fast laser hi-hat sounds or any percussive elements really, and the pitch envelope doesn't liven up or change the tempo when I do it. Still a cool FM bass effect though!

this is incredible out of the box creativity. looking forward for more. thank *YOU* very much. so inspiring. 🙏
Loving these operator videos. Keep it up!
Super creative. Thanks.
fabulous 🥶
What a gem of a video! Hope to see more here :) subbed!
Thank you 😊
This is really inspiring, than k you for sharing
Awesome
mindblowing
Well that's my evening sorted
this is insanely creative
🤗
Great tutorial! New to your channel here, I love how you connect concepts together: technical, musical and physics and stuff : )
Thanks for the kind words. More of that sort of stuff after Christmas!
very nice :) thanks!~
this is so good! any chance you could make a tutorial for idioteque by radiohead?
Wow
very cool. never would have used operator like this. do you have any resources on the math stuff?
wicked
Genuis.
Sick

Thanks for watching. That would be cool. There might well be some module that isn't far off. Have you looked at Elektron's Digitone?
@@toneparticle yeah i have! But ended up getting a model:cicles 😇
yum

Same problem here. Try throwing on a phat low eq 8.

Thanks for watching! Weird - a few people have said that. Will try on Live 11 next time I download it. It's possible that they've changed some stuff
Yes same here. Copied move-for-move and it doesn't sound the same, nowhere near as good.
What device is triggering the parameters on Operator? An LFO?
The clips are being triggered by follow actions right?
This vid totally inspired me I thank you keep it up this pure gold!
Thanks - I'm really glad this video inspired you! No LFOs, just clip automation, and yes the clips are being triggered by follow actions.
Another great tutorial. Turn your monitor brightness up, my eyeballs are screaming.

That's weird I m really not getting any low end compared to you haha!
hmmmm...weird. Maybe it's post processing I did on the video audio at the end
No actually just tried it again and I get plenty of low end without any effects. How about if you disable operator D and the pitch envelope?
Ableton have confirmed that there is a bug affecting the parameters of Operator for the latest version, making it difficult to replicate old tutorials unfortunately. Not sure what their plan is but hopefully it'll be solved.
@@final_animal that really sucks
Great stuff! How come yours has such beefy low end lol
Not sure 🧐 The "Hard" waveshaper possibly
