I would have assumed the reverse, but i read that hear the roar book last year and found it refreshing to see how overboard they went into making it a quality show. If anyone ever says Thundercats was lazy or cheap, we now have factual data that shows the opposite to be so per episode. If anything they overspent by the standard of the day.
The 2011 show is awesome. Still enjoy it on dvd.
Thanks, lioconvoy, this will go a long way towards helping me educate some people I know on the brand. It kinda makes you sad a little, though. This property has been through hell because Warner simply won't pit someone in charge who actually cares about the brand. Do you suppose we'll ever catch a break?
I didn’t like ThunderCats when I first watched it but it grew on me and I really like the characters now.

Tsuguyuki Kubo also worked on 'The Legend Of Kora', and in the late 70's, he worked on 'Dr. Snuggles'.

This show was ahead of it’s time during a time where animation is in a dark place and companies wanted to adapted toys to a show so they can marketed them. Thundercats doesn’t started out as a toy show. Instead, it was one that is comes from the heart and mortality of an original idea. Without this show, I don’t think we would get any anime influence shows until much later. Despite that the show wasn’t suppose to be an anime influenced show despite being heavily animated in Japan itself. But it’s legacy is what comes in later down the road. :)

Similar but different. The Marvel Tf comic had a long run, but went on to multiple popular subsequent shows and had additional short and long run comic tie ins and original non show comics such as the idw run that lasted even longer than the marvel run. In contrast the cats later comic book incarnations got short runs and mini series, and two aborted shows. Its a shame as the Thundercats are perfect for comics and never got a chance like TF to keep building new audiences every few years with new successful media.

For that time jump in aging Liono from kid to adult, are all of the thundercats in the original show supposed to be the same species or different species living on the same planet together before it blew up?
The time jump for Lion-O was never explained, and all the ThunderCats are different species of Thunderian.

Well at least Willa's getting a S7 toy now, though watching your reviews on previous waves has convinced me to wait to see the final product, no preorders. Yet I've been lucky with S7 so far. Lion-O only has a slight defect in the left knee joint, only one paint flub on Cheetara, no issues with Vultureman other than height.
I actually just started delving into ThunderCats this year, the amount of episodes seen in my youth able to be counted on one hand and being on my 'to watch' list for years. Maybe the fact that it wasn't made to sell toys at the outset, like Transformers and TMNT, is why I find it intriguing despite hardly any nostalgia.
Great video! I learned some facts that I didn't know from the Franchise. That part of the 2011 show where Pumyra is transformed into a monster bug... I'm only glad it didn't happen!

Sounds like the second show was really sabotaged from the beginning. It makes me wonder why though. You'd think they'd want to market things correctly.

I could totally see a crossover universe with The Masters of the Universe being plausible... HOW DO YOU FUCK THAT UP!? Eternia can totally be another planet in a galaxy that also holds Thundara and Third Earth. Hell, Imagine the deciet and backstabbery between Skeletor, Mum-Ra, and Hordak. Two supremely powerful sorcerers with undead motiffs and a Cyborg sorcerer, all vying for power with a menagerie of villainous lackies. How do you fail this!? Lol

It had strayed so far from the tone of the original, that Wilykit thing might not have been a necessarily bad choice, but the fact that they wanted to do hardcore sex slavery plotlines was nasty and hearing that Wilykat got turned evil ensured that I'd hate it cause I always thought he'd stay a heroic character.

My only addendum is that marvel uk comics are shorter page serials so just the number published without context makes it sound like more comics than there actually were as the assumption from non readers is that uk issues would be full issues like marvel us comics. I was surprised when i first read the full run of marvel uk TF and had no idea that 100 issues is really half that or less (by american monthlies page count) as its shared with other properties in the magazine size newsprint format. 🦁🐯🐅🐆

Also as far as Thunder Cats Roar goes, I'm not sure why the research was so poorly done for the series. I have to wonder why they couldn't anticipate how poorly it would be received.
