nope! I owned M50x , M70X , Hifiman Sundara and latest Austrian Audio Hi-X65 open back. ordering Audeze M100 soon. the M70X is too intense mid to top, treble emphasis is too much. it does sounds more refined in texture all across the frequency. low is extended and goes lower than M50x. Instrument separation and resolution is much better than M50X but not much better than any that is around its price .
i got the m50x and the m40x - and they really are more precise in mid and high frequencies and are able to fulfill some audiophile needs in combination with a good dac/headphone amp. the m50x really appear muddy and too bassy while lacking sound staging. kinda like the drivers are out of control, in a way.
@@FDothat M50 x better for a vocalist to track her vocals so they dont need monitor headphones? Thats all I can think of because they are not Monitoring anything if they are not flat.
@@HOLLASOUNDS you are right, they are anything but flat. that is exactly the reason why i do not use them for vocal tracking hahaha. i dj with them. sometimes i produce my tracks with them and then switch to the m40s later on. the m40x are a little more stressful for the ear, so it is nice to use bigger, more relaxed sounding drivers for the first steps. hope that helps haha.

@FDothat you do not need a dac or amp to drive the m50x or even the m40x, there's such a little increase it makes it not worth the time or money. A smartphone with an aux can run them.
M40 price fits my budget, upgrading to M50x I just need to add a little amount, but higher to these two is beyond beyond beyond my budget. I am a podcast audio editor and I believe that 40 and 50 are enough for me 😁. Kudos for this in-depth review...
Hi luke thank you for an excellent review. I've had the mx 50 for a few years now I really like the sound but I find them very clampy and I don't like the small ear cups. So I changed them for some brainwavz hybrid pads they don't chafe my ears now. Also to my ears they sound a little less closed in now I actually think they sound a bit better now but some people might disagree
I jus bought th M40x as an early Christmas present for myself & absolutely luv them. Be warned though, these bring alot of detail out of music & will make a poor recording sound like shit. They are a very honest headphone, you'll hear all th good & all th bad. If you're a Rap guy that wants sub-bass, you'll want a different model
Awesome job man, you're really easy to listen to and described these clearly. I've got 50xbt2's and 40x wired, and I think you're spot on with those at least. I prefer the 50s over the 40s for listening (brighter & rounder, more fun), I've only used the 40s for monitoring as they're clear and they're already plugged in. Thanks man.
i have a m50x that i bought in 2014 and i havent heard a single pair of headphones better than it, unfortunately i think they changed the way they make them, i tried buying a new pair 3 times and returned them all. it's just so much bassier, so much worse, in every aspect. the thing is the ones i have now are pretty beaten up, theyre old, i need new ones. i tried buying the dt990pros from beyerdynamic and i also hated their low mids. whys everything so bassy? i dont know what to do. i feel like all brands cheapened their products in a terrible way.
Have you tried the M40X? It doesn't have that added bass and you really can pick out different sounds with it like he mentioned in the video. Best headphones I've ever used.
Hey mate! I wonder if thats to do with "burning in" your set? I.e. the longer you wear them the better they get. Some people say its not a thing but most of the companies agree that its a factor. (could be just to make sure you run past warrenty though)
*I want to use m50x to listen to high quality music on iphone 14 pro max, what device do I have to buy to connect without losing sound quality. Please help me tell me that product.*
Buy a DAC!!! Like fiio jakeaudio, helm audio bolt, audioquest dragon fly or the popular thx onyx. Maybe you’ll need an other adaptor for usbc to lightning port but!!! These dac overrule the max amp of the iPhone! Do not forget, you should have lossless file or a lossless /hifi streaming to really take advantage of the amp
I still have a pair of Audio-Technica ATH-M30 and they are excellent for laying down things like guitar tracks when recording. Nice detail and midrange
they serve an entirely different purpose. for mixing i´d use the m70x or the m40x. in my opinion (i got the m50x, m40x and the sonys for listening on the go) the wh100xm5 are entirely lacking midrange, which leads to miserable reproduction qualities if you are producing music or mixing. with mixed and mastered music they are a lot of fun, especially if you like music with present bass. the sound coloration is kind of cold, if that makes sense. it sounds technical but not analytical. The M40x in comparison have a super precise upper midrange and a lot of clarity. the m50xs often lack those properties and only offer the benefit of being more bassy while not performing well in terms of sound staging. they come accross too dense
Yeah my m50s lasted maybe 2 years and by the end the driver just snapped off the hinge and I used to baby these headphones in a hard case the hinges should be made of metal or a more robust material than plastic I mean carbon fiber is pretty cheap to use nowadays. I have used cheaper headphones like the micxder e10 which lasted me about 3 years and I only replaced them because the Bluetooth 5.0 was outdated.
@@S9universe not neutral but yes compared with m50/m70s.... m40x sounds slightly v shaped with bass boost around 50-200hz and slight treble boost around 8-10khz, timbre is pleasing than the other two
