Without a doubt, use the M70x for mixing and mastering.

      nope!
I owned M50x , M70X , Hifiman Sundara and latest Austrian Audio Hi-X65 open back. ordering Audeze M100 soon.
the M70X is too intense mid to top, treble emphasis is too much. it does sounds more refined in texture all across the frequency. low is extended and goes lower than M50x. Instrument separation and resolution is much better than M50X but not much better than any that is around its price .

M40 price fits my budget, upgrading to M50x I just need to add a little amount, but higher to these two is beyond beyond beyond my budget. I am a podcast audio editor and I believe that 40 and 50 are enough for me 😁. Kudos for this in-depth review...

i got the m50x and the m40x - and they really are more precise in mid and high frequencies and are able to fulfill some audiophile needs in combination with a good dac/headphone amp. the m50x really appear muddy and too bassy while lacking sound staging. kinda like the drivers are out of control, in a way.

@@HOLLASOUNDS you are right, they are anything but flat. that is exactly the reason why i do not use them for vocal tracking hahaha.
i dj with them. sometimes i produce my tracks with them and then switch to the m40s later on. the m40x are a little more stressful for the ear, so it is nice to use bigger, more relaxed sounding drivers for the first steps. hope that helps haha.

Awesome job man, you're really easy to listen to and described these clearly. I've got 50xbt2's and 40x wired, and I think you're spot on with those at least. I prefer the 50s over the 40s for listening (brighter & rounder, more fun), I've only used the 40s for monitoring as they're clear and they're already plugged in. Thanks man.

i have a m50x that i bought in 2014 and i havent heard a single pair of headphones better than it, unfortunately i think they changed the way they make them, i tried buying a new pair 3 times and returned them all. it's just so much bassier, so much worse, in every aspect. the thing is the ones i have now are pretty beaten up, theyre old, i need new ones. i tried buying the dt990pros from beyerdynamic and i also hated their low mids. whys everything so bassy? i dont know what to do. i feel like all brands cheapened their products in a terrible way.

Yeah my m50s lasted maybe 2 years and by the end the driver just snapped off the hinge and I used to baby these headphones in a hard case the hinges should be made of metal or a more robust material than plastic I mean carbon fiber is pretty cheap to use nowadays. I have used cheaper headphones like the micxder e10 which lasted me about 3 years and I only replaced them because the Bluetooth 5.0 was outdated.

Do not forget, you should have lossless file or a lossless /hifi streaming to really take advantage of the amp

sony wh-1000xm5 costs 400 dollars is good at mixing and mastering or ath m50x that costs 150 dollars?

    • @FDothat
      @FDothat 5 месяцев назад

they serve an entirely different purpose. for mixing i´d use the m70x or the m40x.
in my opinion (i got the m50x, m40x and the sonys for listening on the go) the wh100xm5 are entirely lacking midrange, which leads to miserable reproduction qualities if you are producing music or mixing.
with mixed and mastered music they are a lot of fun, especially if you like music with present bass. the sound coloration is kind of cold, if that makes sense.
it sounds technical but not analytical.
The M40x in comparison have a super precise upper midrange and a lot of clarity.
the m50xs often lack those properties and only offer the benefit of being more bassy while not performing well in terms of sound staging. they come accross too dense
