i like how both sides act like real soldiers, most films have that generic american suicide charge just to be cinematic, but this does actual military tactics pretty well.

@@Darth_Traitorous fixing bayonets was a legitimate tactic though, not to mention historically accurate.
It's rather unfair to cite Gettysburg/Glory and the Patriot since thats literally how people fought in the 19th and 17th century.
We were soldiers was based on real events where US Marines did fix bayonets as they were outnumbered and overwhelmed.

@@FloofyMinari it's shown in movies of something that we the viewer do not have the ability to time travel and see for ourselves. Also Japan did the bayonet charge they called it banzai which is a death charge because they died a lot from that. The idea of bayonet charges was to terrify your enemy. Bayonet Hill in South Korea was named after a colonel who would continuously fix bayonets until the US government told him not to terrify the Chinese. Because he read from a leaflet that the Chinese believed that Americans were wusses because they were not fixing bayonets and fighting like they used to and he did and prove them deadly wrong

The Philipinos had such perfect positioning and then the US marines patiently re-strategized and outflanked them taking the high ground.

From what I've read and researched, this was Heneral Luna's tactic against the imperialist Americans if he had lived and built his planned fortress north of Luzon. He knew he can't defeat the Americans head on what with their superior numbers and technology.
Therefore he wanted to wage a war of attrition against the Americans and with the Philippines' strategic locations and impenetrable terrain of mountains and forests he would constantly harass the American military for years until it would become very costly for the Americans to hold the entirety of Luzon. His plan would involved inciting civil unrest back on American soil so that their Congress is forced to withdraw American forces in the Philippines by referendum of the American public.
It is akin to how the Vietnamese were successful in repelling any and all of their adversaries be it the Chinese or Western Imperialist powers during the Vietnam War.
He had it all planned out too. Training sharpshooters to target high valued military personnel and conducting night time raids against American camps. Building his fortress in the mountains of Cordillera to withstand long and costly sieges against American forces.
Had Luna lived to carry out his plans, who knows if it would be successful. Though, knowing Luna's insane genius and tactical acumen, it would have been a very long and bloody war for the Americans to even contend with him and the entire Philippine army.

@@5678sothourn true that and Luna may still lose against the Americans but who knows, maybe he'll stall for time. Maybe he's hoping that the Filipino leadership would finally stop their squabbles and provide the much needed support the Philippine Military needs.
Luna could also take the mantle by a coup, instill martial law and make alliances with the militarist Imperial Japan and gain external support. But that's just what we did with the Spaniards. We kicked out a colonial power just so we could invite an even bigger and more powerful one.
And besides, if we had been a satellite state of Japan, we would be on the losing side of the biggest war in the history of mankind. So yeah in a sad kind of sense I suppose Luna losing still poses a positive spin on Philippine politics.
