"does it hold up 20 YEARS LATER" ... that hit me, that hit me hard. I played this when it first came out as an ADULT just out of college ... so old, so so old
There actually is a lighting effect from your bullets though more subtle like in 3. As for Samus reflections they have been taken out of the mirrors. Replaced with reflections of the surrounding world which works in its own way. The HD rumble is fantastic in this game and occurs way more than you let on though there are even more ways it could be implemented. The sound is so good that I would love to feel the light vibrations of her footsteps. Or her splash into the water. But they gave each charge beam a unique rumble which I thought was cool. Dude its a metroidvania... There is supposed to be back tracking. It doesn't have to be an end game collectathon. You scan the totems and look as you play...
There is a controller setting to switch the beam swap and missile buttons. This was way better for me because you can hold R to switch your beams instead and then press Y to fire a missile.
I bought Trilogy on Wii U ages ago, but have just never managed to stick with it to the end of even Prime 1. Caved and bought this remaster yesterday, and it's crazy how much more I'm enjoying the experience. I think the two main differences are... 1) Gyro works regardless of whether or not I'm pointing my pro controller at the tv, so I can sit in whatever way is most comfortable to me at any given moment without worrying about my accuracy. 2) Reaching over to press a Wii remote's minus button just isn't that comfortable. This doesn't matter when it's just a pause button, but in Prime Trilogy it's how you switch visors, and I'm constantly bringing out the Scan Visor to check for cool lore or anything I can activate. Using the d-pad on a standard controller is definitely preferable here. So, basically, if I had to sum up the reason I like Prime Remastered more than Prime Trilogy, it would be "comfort."
When Pokémon can’t make a game that looks as good as a remade 20 year old game then you know something is going on. BTW you can swap the buttons for the beams and visors and turn on gyro controls for stick aiming for a true hybrid control.
For me, thingsI loved (what the video didn't cover): - They didn't remove the trick that allows you to use rapid-fire missiles with the Power Beam. - Ghetto jumping is still a thing. - Spring Ball is still a thing in Pointer Mode (the way I played the game) as soon as you get the bombs just like in the Wii versions of the game. - Missiles chase Meta Ridley when he's flying about for an aerial bombardment for longer than in previous versions (they still don't hit him) Things I didn't like was that (what the video didn't cover): - One thing you already mentioned (the reflection). - When seeing Tallon IV for the first time on the Frigate, the planet lacks the crater and cracks showcased all over the planet in the original. - The heavy rain was more transparent, making the rain look more like a drizzle instead of a downpour. - The lack of scan dashing, which was getting me hit by enemies needlessly as I scanned them (yes, I'm aware it was removed in later versions of the game, and were gone from the Wii versions to prevent Sequence Breaking, which no Metroid game should ever do). - I was fine with holding the fire button shoots out multiple shots before charging with the Power Beam (as that was both useful but reminded me of something I liked about Metroid Prime Hunters) but not the other beams. With the other beams, it's not that useful as it slows up the charging up the other beams and interrupts ambushing unaware Pirates with said charge shots. - The new designs for the Doors. I was hoping for an HD version of the original doors. - Frozen Ice Troopers can no longer be shattered with a missile like in all other versions of Metroid Prime. I guess this makes them harder to kill as they were too easy in previous versions of MP. - Samus, without her helmet, lacks her mole (yes, I know it wasn't in the original, but it's now an established part of her character). Hopefully, updates and mods will be able to fix some of these issues, but I hope updates don't remove rapid-fire missiles. Still, Metroid Prime Remastered is still probably the best legal way to play Metroid Prime, however, the Definitive way to plays Metroid Prime is with Primehacks.
In my opinion I think the $40 price tag is evidence we will see a metroid prime 2 and 3 remaster. I know there were rumors of a trilogy release for awotch and I wonder if it was decided to release them separately, but at a lower price
I love this remaster so much. T hey went above and beyond with new textures and lighting. As far as I'm aware, this is the source code ported to a new engine. The attention to details is incredibly high, with stuff like individual rain drops on the suit in Tallon Overworld, real magma in Magmoor Caverns, and individual snowflakes in Phendrana Drifts. They also applied some much needed weapon buffs and quality of life changes, like higher projectile velocity on the Ice Beam. This is an amazing remaster, which plan on doing a 100% run of.
For anyone who wants gyro aiming with Dual Stick controls there are options tucked away in the menu for them. Might need to adjust the sensitivies a bit to your liking but otherwise it works amazingly well.
@@sistakastet from what I’ve seen, it pretty much is the same, the only difference being that it’s in first person and the right stick can move vertically

While the inability to swap the gyro reset and beam buttons are little more than just a personal annoyance, I'm still more likely to wait for a physical/trilogy setup.

I’m surprised no one is talking about the Fusion suit or lack thereof. It was a great feature in Metroid Prime and it looks like they neglected to bring it back
My theory. Originally it was planned as a simple hd trilogy to release before 4 but as that game restarted they sat on it and slowly decided to basically remake it and split the trilogy into the 3 games

I loved it, it far expected my expectations. My only nit-picks are that the Thermal Visor was too blurry and hard to look at. I also didn't like holding X to switch lasers. But I loved this remaster regardless. 10/10 *chef's kiss*
I think my biggest issue is that there's no way to go straight into a charged shot; you're forced to autofire a few normal shorts before the arm cannon starts charging. It can really slow down combat, especially if you're trying to use super missiles. It looks like an accessibility or QoL feature that backfired. I hope they patch in a way to turn it off.
Pretty sure it's the exact same time to fire a charged beam as in the original, it's just giving you a few extra shots of fire power beforehand. Good addition.
The wireless Gamecube controller for the Switch is better for this game than the original Gamecube controller because it has more buttons, so the pause menu problem is not an issue with that one.
Amazing review but I wish there was more details on the gameplay as I have never played the original before. I will say though I am enjoying my time with the game so far.
I feel like the triple shot before a charge beam is so the player can’t abuse rapid fire partially charged shots. This was OP in the original with the wave beam.
I believe the switch has a lot of potential for high detailed games, this remaster the BoTW being the prime examples so far. Not sure if the less games taking the full potential are because it takes too long to polish the game before everyone releases the next gen of consoles, if the Switch has something complex to it for developers to learn compared to xbox and playstation, or if its just general stigma of non-Nintendo developers focusing more on the mobile-console portion of the Switch and underestimating what they can do on the console because of the expectation of mobile consoles being weaker than home consoles. The first two queries would probably be similar to how Skyward Sword was developed to take almost top advantage of the Wii's motion controls, but unfortunately was released at the end of the Wii's life cycle because many developers had to play it save and focus on new gimmicks with the release of new consoles rather than release more games on an old console as they were finally learning the functionality of the Wii and reduce the number of launch titles on the console released after.
@@SALTYTOAD00 Somewhat, but it can still be visually realistic and good looking without lag when connected to the TV as long as its something singleplayer and not multiplayer.
My only real complaint is I would like a control method that is dual stick with gyro only enabled when a button is triggered. They kinda have it but it only happens when locked on so opposite of what I want

Great review but I have to ask about the "especially 6 years into it's life" comment. Games typically get better looking as developers figure out how to fully utilize the systems. Plus the games likely have more time in development. Unless you're saying that late stage games are not given high production levels but rather quick cash-ins. It doesn't make sense to me that "because the switch is 6 years old" it can't produce these visuals but maybe back when it was new. Sorry just had a coffee. I may misinterpreted.

I think the only thing they could’ve done better is the transition from ball form to regular Samus. I wished you can either move around while the camera pans back into first person or the animation was more seamless. Other than that, the game is fantastic.

They put auto-saves in zelda skyward sword, they could have done it on Metroid prime for every door you go through. That's a bummer damn it. Most of us are adults with work and family life trying to get some gaming time in & that makes it daunting when you can barely get an hour & no time to find a save point 15 minutes or so out of reach. And fully customizable controls should be the standard in this generation of gaming no matter what game it is.

"does it hold up 20 YEARS LATER" ... that hit me, that hit me hard. I played this when it first came out as an ADULT just out of college ... so old, so so old
Metroid prime 2 and resident evil 4 are the best looking gamecube games!
By the way: Metroid Prime Remastered Physical edition is No. 1 in sales on Amazon US, as well as being sold out in Amazon Mexico and Amazon Spain.
Yeah because the Switch has nothing else
This game is stunning. I thought I was playing on an unreal engine mod.
Retro studios magic. Imagine what Metroid prime 4 is going to look like.
Unreal games usually do not run as well on Switch. More 720p 30fps
For me, thingsI loved (what the video didn't cover):
- They didn't remove the trick that allows you to use rapid-fire missiles with the Power Beam.
- Ghetto jumping is still a thing.
- Spring Ball is still a thing in Pointer Mode (the way I played the game) as soon as you get the bombs just like in the Wii versions of the game.
- Missiles chase Meta Ridley when he's flying about for an aerial bombardment for longer than in previous versions (they still don't hit him)
Things I didn't like was that (what the video didn't cover):
- One thing you already mentioned (the reflection).
2:09 I really hope that's a bug they will patch, it's too cool to be missing from the new version!
The only thing I'm bummed about is you can't see Samus's face through the visor anymore. 😢
Is it similar to splatoon? Because using motion to aim and the sticks at the same time to aim faster/adjust is my favourite way of aiming.
@@sistakastet from what I’ve seen, it pretty much is the same, the only difference being that it’s in first person and the right stick can move vertically
@@sistakastet I also really enjoy the way Splatoon handles gyro. You can basically replicate it by putting the vertical stick sensitivity as low as possible and adjustting the rest of the sensitivities to your liking.
That awesome thanks for the answers. I think that settles It. I want to buy this game now. Never played metroid it is about freaking time 😂.
@@sistakastet spent 10 min finding an tweaking controller options but you can set it as splatoon controls and it feels really good
This combined with target lock is perfect
Definitely the best looking switch game with semi-realistic artstyle
Yeah, I don't like that. Makes the game look kinda lame and more like a PlayStation game instead of a Nintendo game.
@@SALTYTOAD00 I enjoy colorful, cartoonish Nintendo games, but it’s great for them to have some variety and range. They barely do anything that’s like this, so why begrudge them the one franchise that goes into this stylistic territory? That’s like PlayStation fans disliking Ratchet and Clank for being Nintendo-like.
@@BIGBMH Yeah, maybe it's just because I'm not into the more mature Nintendo games like Zelda and Metroid.
Alien isolation
While the inability to swap the gyro reset and beam buttons are little more than just a personal annoyance, I'm still more likely to wait for a physical/trilogy setup.
well you CAN swap them via the switch button remapping itself..
like, a native way to swap buttons is always nice but given the switch has it build in makes it less jaring
@@weberman173 I had thought about that, and failed to mention it, but that method is "incomplete" because there are a quite few controllers out there without the ability to be remapped.
Not mentioned, but there's a neat new loading screen when you boot up the game showing the last place you saved.
2:34
The mirror was an artistic error according to original dev team, it being removed in the remaster is more in line what the devs originally intended.
RIP the comment that explained the lack of graphics
Graphics don't mean gameplay.
It has rlly good graphics
What?
@SaltyToad00 except for the beam lighting. This game is dark sometimes and that used to help navigate. Now it's a pain getting around some of the darker places
I have to admit, I only got to play Prime 3: Corruption, and with each year passing and me growing up I only loved it more and more. I'll wait for the physical version of the game, 'cause I like it the old way, but I can't wait to play it.
I’m surprised no one is talking about the Fusion suit or lack thereof. It was a great feature in Metroid Prime and it looks like they neglected to bring it back
I saw a few people say the code is in the game but it's set to false. May come in an update or may be connected to gba fusion when it comes to nsp
So it wasn’t just me turning into Morph Ball during a boss fight.
I just played Primehack, and I was using a significantly different setup, so needless to say, Samus was doing some wild stuff on my playthrough, haha
Great review! Although metroid prime looks great on the GameCube, I would probably say RE4 was the best looking game on the system from my memory
My theory. Originally it was planned as a simple hd trilogy to release before 4 but as that game restarted they sat on it and slowly decided to basically remake it and split the trilogy into the 3 games
I love what they did with this game looks amazing and plays even better then the original which I still have on the game cube. I went back and compared them together and there are so slight differences but the switch ver. controls make it so much better to play. and I cant stop looking at the awesome graphics. this just blows me away how good it looks and plays. Thank you Nintendo for this killer updated Metroid
I'm not gonna lie this is my first Prime game, but yes its good was not expecting 3D Metroid to actually be this good. I've been opened to a new option really enjoying this game. got to play the trilogy now for real and at $40 this game is must buy if you like first person shooters
Beautiful game. Hoping that this is the start of very good looking remasters for switch.

I loved it, it far expected my expectations. My only nit-picks are that the Thermal Visor was too blurry and hard to look at. I also didn't like holding X to switch lasers. But I loved this remaster regardless. 10/10 *chef's kiss*
actually there is a menu option to change map to r or z depending on if you're using an actual cube controller vs a switch gamecube style controller
@IonSquared Really? That's actually neat then. I hadn't noticed!
That mirror oversight was very unexpected, especially since fans are always raving about it.
It would be cool if it was updated in tho
I just don’t understand what kind of black magic they used to make it look this GOOD.
The wireless Gamecube controller for the Switch is better for this game than the original Gamecube controller because it has more buttons, so the pause menu problem is not an issue with that one.
I'm waiting for the physical release. My first gme ever!
PLEASE RELEASE MP4 AND REMASTER 2 AND3 so happy about this please support this
I disagree on HD Rumble! They did a great job with it!
They need to make Prime 2 and Prime 3 remasters. You don't just stop at the first lol
I wish they didn’t make us wait for the physical. I want it sitting next to my GameCube copy
This is why the Switch has nothing
Shadowdropping physical games with launch date of "Available now" is impossible.
Why do i feel that metroid prime 4 will be released for the next generation console and not for the switch. Hope I’m wrong.
Amazing review but I wish there was more details on the gameplay as I have never played the original before. I will say though I am enjoying my time with the game so far.
I feel like the triple shot before a charge beam is so the player can’t abuse rapid fire partially charged shots. This was OP in the original with the wave beam.
This is a pretty good review!
The Switch is underpowered and that's why it sells more than the competition. Because it's cheap.
My hot take is that the switch doesn't need to be replaced within the next 2 years. Gameplay is king. I'll take MP Remaster over a maxed out COD game.
@@SALTYTOAD00It’s powerful enough to have beautiful games, apparently. Cheap isn’t always a bad thing.
Probably the best Remaster to date!
Now make a Remaster or Remake of "Severance Blade of Darkness"! Thats all im ever asking for...
Man fast travel between save rooms would have changed this game for the better
@@The_OstrichOutdated game design.
Someone from the Metroid team way back then did warn point and shoot won’t be as good on the switch as it was on Wii
At least they put GameCube controls in
Kind of
Also someone find out if they use the superior GameCube phazon suit get cutscene instead of the trilogy version
@@NongIng I forget the difference, even though I have both.
IMO gyro aiming is better than pointer aiming anyway
Great review but I have to ask about the "especially 6 years into it's life" comment. Games typically get better looking as developers figure out how to fully utilize the systems. Plus the games likely have more time in development. Unless you're saying that late stage games are not given high production levels but rather quick cash-ins. It doesn't make sense to me that "because the switch is 6 years old" it can't produce these visuals but maybe back when it was new. Sorry just had a coffee. I may misinterpreted.
I'm so glad one of the best games ever is even better.
Yeah because the Switch has nothing else
@@knuclear200x As far as 2023 goes and not counting remakes or remasters, we've got Fire Emblem Engage, Bayonetta Origins, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Pikmin 4, and Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time. Plus, we have Professor Layton and The New World of Steam and Metroid Prime 4 to look forward to in the future. It's a really good line-up.
For the classic controls, Retro needs to make "A" morphball, "B" fire, "X" missile and "Y" jump...so it feels like the GameCube
They should add an option on the Prime games to play in third person. That would be cool AF to be able to switch based on preference.
Please let this be a testament and gateway to remasters of 2&3 preferably before 4 releases, and let this be a learning experience for studios, developers and Nintendo that Metroid is still relevant and people want more...
A fair video. I also keep forgetting Y is morph ball as it was L in Dread and the same finger placement on the Wii mote
I've played up to the point of getting the morph ball bomb so far, and I really am loving it. took me a while to get used to the gyro controls in the his game. I found them way too sensitive for me, but after tinkering some and spending some time with it the game feels great.
I think the only thing they could’ve done better is the transition from ball form to regular Samus. I wished you can either move around while the camera pans back into first person or the animation was more seamless. Other than that, the game is fantastic.
You can still move
I never played it as a kid but I watched my older brother play it (I wasn't allowed to play it because I was like 5 or something) and because the Wii died out in my teenage years and because I never used any Wii emulators, I thought I'd never get to play it so when Nintendo Shadow Dropped it out of nowhere, I bought it immediately and I've been hooked ever since
I remember when this first came out and I thought these graphics looked better than Halo, I only wished that this game had a multiplayer mode, because hey, if you can play multiplayer on Halo as different color armor of Master Chief, then why not play multiplayer in Metriod Prime as different color armor of Samus?
Actually, that exact thing happened in Prime 2. It wasn't all that good, but it happened.
@G.F. Martian Shipyards cool, let's hope they improve it when they remaster that game
I used to play Metroid Prime Hunters online multiplayer on the DS. It was really impressive for a handheld at the time. It was developed by Retro too.

I really wanted to get three amiibo (worth $70) but this is cheaper so I hope I can get the game soon as it is $60 but I might not because it doesn’t have to much difference from the original

it's a gamecube game...
Nintendo...
PLEASE do this for Twilight Princess, Mario Galaxy 1 & 2, StarFox Assault, F-Zero GX, Luigi's Mansion, Mario Sunshine, and Pikmin.
The only problem I have with this game is that I learned how to do a lot of the sequence breaking tricks growing up and having them all patched out makes the game much less replayable.
Please, for the love of God. Being this to VR. That's all I'm asking for
Having thoroughly played through Metroid Prime on GameCube and Wii, I hope they remaster Metroid Prime 2, which I've never beaten.
I LOVE the HECK out of Prime, BUT I have to say Luigi’s Mansion 3(switch) looks really really good. It’s hard to dismiss.

Havent noticed, watched the italian Version, thanks for pountung this out, you are amazung😊❤
How much involved was Retro studios in the remaster? I mean do they have staff to be involved in remasters of Prime 2 and 3 while making 4? 🤔
Begs the question if we're gonna get remasters of those games aswell..
The current theory is that while another company was working on Prime 4 before they restarted development with Retro, this was the project Retro was working on.
@Landry Pierce Yeah I heard the story. It also says Retro was done with the remaster mid 21. Which was my point, the other company mentioned in the video Iron something, how much did they do? If Retro studios did most of the work maybe we shouldn't expect any more remasters.
What happend to the first upload?
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have zero excuses for the poor frame rate when this game is perfect
