  • I am currently restoring an old tool grinding machine.
A check of the slide revealed that the round surface which carries the table was out of parallel to the ways by 0.4 mm (16 thou)
The video shows using a Wohlhaupter UPA 5 boring and facing head to correct the error.
    00:00 introduction
    02:00 cutting
06:05 result - ready for scraping

I have a UPA-5 as well. They are a very beautiful tool to use.

That facing head is an elegant tool; perhaps I'll be able to justify the purchase of one some day.

Yes, it is an excellent tool. I just love it. Perhaps you can donate one to yourself as a Christmas present 🙂

@@HaraldFinster Wohlhaupter are fantastic. Lucky enough to have a UPA 3 for my Thiel 158-s.

mew? wouldn't "micron" or "micrometer" be better? I've always though that the true sign of an intellectual is a conversation filled with the pronounciation of greek letters instead of the concepts to which they refer. You, sir, have done that exact thing, but for machining. But thanks for showing the UPA 5 in action. This kind of footage is underrepresented on the internet and thanks to you, it'll be here forever.

Thanks for your constructive comment! You are right with regards to the pronunciation of the "µ". I should have used "micron" instead - I agree. My mistake is probably due to the fact that I am German and not a native English speaker.
Glad that you enjoyed the video anyways.

I have the upa 1,2 and three. Love them! Also have a Narex 36 whicg works similar to your upa4, but is considerable smaller.

What kind of work do you do with your heads? I would like to have a smaller one as I wouldn't dare to run my heavy head on high speeds.
