- SPEED - HARDCORE WORLD (DOCUMENTARY)
PRESENTED BY VANS
Sydney crew SPEED are currently spearheading a fierce resurgence in Australian hardcore. Embarking on their first national tour in September 2022, this documentary follows SPEED as they play four sold-out shows across the country, with Melbourne heavyweights AWOL also on board. Featuring interviews, behind-the-scenes footage, cameos and unprecedented insights into SPEED's unique dynamic, HARDCORE WORLD captures a pivotal chapter in Australian hardcore - but more excitingly, it shows that this is only the beginning for SPEED and the scene at large.
Directed, filmed and edited by Pablo Barnes
Sound by Elliott Gallart & Mike Jaballah
Colour by Thomas Elliott
Music by SPEED, AWOL, 3ndles5 & CrazyMike
Additional footage by Thomas Elliott, Hugh Rochester, Dan Gerada, Erin Nugent, Christopher Roese, Xavier Podreka, Beth Morrison & Candace Kreiger
Special thanks to Luke Bennetts, Dougal Gorman, Vans Australia, Brick & Mortar, Last Ride Records & Flatspot Records

RESPECT EACH OTHER *guy throws a full drink at someones head immediatly*
One in every crowd
Hahahahaha
That’s exactly what I thought when I read this comment.
I mean, that’s how respect works at a hardcore show haha
You can tell Australia is very confident in their hardcore scene. I love to see their passion for hardcore and keeping the spirit alive! Hardcore won’t ever die there, you can just feel it from these fine gentlemen. Gang Called SPEED baby!
There were bands here in the 90’s that were even better than some of the bigger bands from the states, just couldn’t get the same attention
Super gay🤡
@@andrewashford5617 Throwing this around below a Hardcore band doc as an insult. Sad.
the sydney hardcore scene is literally never gonna die i promise you, its so different to everywhere else and is special and unique
- a hardcore fan from sydney

Stood outside in the rain for two hours trying to get a ticket to the Brisbane show from anyone who had a spare, seeing the Brightside footage hurts! Feels like I really missed a moment in Aus hardcore. The scene is fucking vibrating right now with energy so I'm sure I'll get the opportunity to see them again soon, in the meantime go to every gig you can! Support your local bands and grow this scene!
Same here. I was thinking "oh its a local show, surely it won't be sold out and I can just rock up"
That was a bummer
@@edwardr8226 mate I was gonna fly to Sydney for speed + turnstile but the bastard sold out in
Super proud of this band, having known at least a couple of the guys all their life😆😆😆 Keep doing what you love with and for those you clearly love and reminding us all of the power of one-ness and yet appreciating the uniqueness in everyone one🙏❤️❤️ Awesome quote by @Joel Alexander - “Anytime someone faces their fear and takes one step forward, everyone wins”
I grew up around the scene in Canberra from 2007 - 2012 sort of time and can remember seeing Dennis, Josh and Jem around/on forums/wherever else. Hardcore was never my number one thing, more of a death metal fan, but I had some truly special moments within that scene back then and had no idea it was resurging in such a way. Makes me excited to check out more new Aus hc bands. I got offered a Speed ticket for the Melbourne show and had heard the name thrown around here and there but didn't end up going. Regretting it now. Cool shit.
Love what dude said about the potential of today's hardcore music. So true, the old rhythms are being used in more creative and heavy ways than ever.
“Anytime someone faces their fear and takes one single step forward everyone wins”
I get the feeling he was off his face on MDMA
Came to Sydney in '97 had the chance to witnessed Agnostic Front played at Resist records first spot in '97. I Left in 2007, it'd be an understatement to say how i miss this city and the hardcore scene. Seeing this video, nostalgic to say the least.
I don't even listen to HC or any rock/metal (mostly Hip Hop and a lot of bass-heavy dance genres) but these blokes got me hella interested.
tbh hardcore and beatdown is not far from Hip hop at all. Both is about energy and representing, straight in your face.
I’ve been trying to start a hardcore band in England for the longest time it’s cool at to see this, had no idea Australia had a big hardcore scene it’s great
I grew up on Candiria, E-Town, and Blood for Blood. In the last few years I've really gotten into bands like Knocked Loose and Boundaries, but I've sort of accepted that old -school beatdown hardcore has been long gone. Then this morning I heard these guys and I was absolutely fcking blown away. This is so damn powerful. Might even bring my old ass to one of their shows if they come to Florida
Old head here. I get misty eyed seeing the sprogs gettin some. All the bullshit modern life throws at us being transformed through music, all the bad energy converted to good. It gives me hope. Godspeed to this scene and others like it carving a path. Look after each other people and protect what’s good out there.
Greeting from cebu, phil.🇵🇭 Hardcore punk rules!!!
Fantastic doco guys the good you are doing for the scene right now is off the charts keep pumping it keep the energy rolling!
Sunami Speed colab is needed, US and Australia united!

Saw these boys at Sound and Fury not long after finding out about them. Instantly became probably my favorite Aussie hardcore band. Can't wait to see them again.
Also, recommend me other Australian HC bands please n thanks 🙏
awol, no apologies, nerve damage, the chain, the others, phantoms, primitive blast, denial, burn in hell, miles away, break even, mindsnare, extortion, histamine, blkout, carpathian, 50 lions … hard to go wrong!!!!
AusHC & HC-adjacent: masochist, persecutor, gravitate, outright, stabbitha and the knifey wifeys, volatile ways, j.o.y, cherish, terminal sleep, blind girls, shove
Great watch, even better band
this shit is so beautiful man, love this band
It's a shame not to see them here in Chile, and maybe as a follower, I would go more than once to see them, just to go crazy with the songs, keep growing friends, they are a good Australian hardcore band and what a good documentary, despite knowing little I was able to understand something and I felt a bit attached to the band, really continue to grow, greetings from Latin America, Santiago, Chile, a hug!!! sons of bitches!!!!
…it’s true, not just HC but the heavy music scene in general across this vast land has stepped up. Good times!
From here on out all shows should have powerlifting competitions in-between bands
I really hope I will have the chance to see a Speed show once in my life. Shit seems lifechanging. Keep it up boys. Big love from Québec Canada

Just ran it's course. Jems spoken about it before and said in the end it was 5 hardcore kids trying to write pop songs. They all have their other projects now and focus on them. I don't believe the band ever posted up that they were broken up so I guess just a hiatus
