  • This is my first ever Deftones reaction and my first time hearing Be Quiet and Drive by the Defines. Super stoked to see what the hype is about!

    You should check out their entire debut album, Adrenaline (1995); it's raw and gritty from start to finish.

    They won a grammy for Best Metal Performance for their song Elite, its very much in your face heavy. Around the Fur and White Pony are must listen albums for metal heads!

      Adrenaline is better than Around the Fur and arguably better than White Pony. It's their most aggressive album though so I could see why it'd turn a lot of people off.

    This was released in 97, so they were before those bands you mentioned. If you want heavy I’d recommend “Bloody Cape”, “When Girls Telephone Boys” and “Hexagram” probably they’re heaviest songs

    Just got into them last year and it's been so fun diving into their discography! For heavier songs, check out My Own Summer (my favorite), Royal, Street Carp, Lotion, MX, Korea, Needles and Pins, and Bloody Cape. Have fun on your Deftones journey :)

      To be fair though, P.O.D is actually a really good band, even live. But, no one is the Deftones. The Deftones are legendary 😎🤘

    They came out nearly around the same time as Korn so they had a similar ticks for their sound, but after they're 2nd album they broke away from the Nu-Metal sound that dominated the mid 90's.

    It was out late '90 the song and I think video too. Remember when MTV showed videos anyone? The ending of the song was him screaming but trust me we saw them live and he screamed live.

    This song makes me feel on top of the world. This song is exactly how I’ve been feeling since a kid. “This town don’t feel mine” holy fuck that hits so close. Like I can’t decide if I wanna smash up shit or cry listening to this song. My body doenst know what it wants. Pure goosebumps.

    My own summer
    Around the fur,root, bored, engine no9,hexagram back to school. Too many to name start at the begining of their catalog and listen through its awesome. I was a junior in HS when this was going on. Deftones are one of a kind and Chino as crazy as his vocals can get he can hit notes most professional singers can't.

    Ibanez Tubescreamer pedal is the effect on the guitar most likely. It was a (and is) a staple of any Nu Metal guitarist's kits.

    "Elite" is pretty brutal, big energy. It won the Best Metal Performance Grammy in 2001 against Iron Maiden, Slipknot, Pantera, and Marilyn Manson surprisingly

    This song came out in the 90s... 94/95? ...... POD and Non Point were influenced by Deftones.
    As for Aggressive, look up Kim Dracula by Deftones.

    You just lost me at “nu metal”… the weren’t nu metal ever, they only called them that way because the had one of their booms on that time… their lyrics aren’t anything numetal. They are more close to shoegaze, new wave, and alt metal… they have even said that they have never been nu metal.
