I get really damn nervous when speaking to companies over the phone and even while watching you just wait for a phone call my stomach drops. Can't wait to go through this process myself in a couple weeks when i start applying for grad jobs!
Just imagine they are naked and have a funny hat on. It will put a smile on your face and you'll sound much more relaxed and positive for the other side. Good luck!
I have also been using a Casio F-91 since primary school(Over 10 years now). My friends tell me it makes me look like a high school kid, but who cares, I see Jake you are also using the same watch.
Hope u gonna find a perfect job soon ALL THE BEST JAKE ( U know all ur squased videos i've seen ,really today sports person actors are getting attention more than study toppers... Keep good hope Jake ) Goodluck ❤
There are loads of opportunities, he's just so picky and keeps chopping and changing from one to another. Could have easily of kept the previous job whilst looking for something better. More often than not people have to do jobs they dont like 100% but not this guy.
you should check his videos from when he was at cambridge. he puts so much hard work into time planning etc. he's just looking for work that would suit him which software developers have the privilege of doing since there are plenty of opportunities
I left one job that I didn't enjoy. I don't think that really counts as chopping and changing. There are lots of opportunities in London-I'm very lucky to be living here. You don't just get offered jobs without going through interviews though and unfortunately they can be slow.
hats off to you to apply so many jobs in same time and getting response as well - it seems UK has good amount of job as compare to your neighbor country- Paddy
I was beginning to worry about you do hope that you land on your feet and I feel that in the end, you will and the job will be better than your last, hang in there and all. will be fall in place.
Hi Jake I really like your videos this is not a critique but I would recommend you sound more upbeat in these phone interviews and also get a suit and tie for the face-to-face interviews I would also recommend you look at how to sell yourself and your set of skills and turn the fact that you left your previous job in the probation period into a positive I know that you didn't detail the full phone interviews in your video and this is just a general comment I never comment so and I was not going to but I wanna help you
I thought this as well. I'm actually surprised that a Cambridge graduate doesn't wear a suit for interviews, or work on their charisma. Maybe it's just the way programmers/their department is?
Thanks for the advice! The suit is an interesting one though-wearing a suit for developer interviews is just not really a thing. I've never known or seen anyone do it (except for jobs where you'd actually be expected to wear a suit, but this is very rare for developers).
Not that I am all knowing but for an internship for a software developer assistant at the cdc me the guy before and after me were wearing suits just thought that might be interesting
Good luck with the current leads; you've been on the market for a while now, and I'm surprised there've been no takers so far. Both Monzo and Ovo are cool, fintech flavoured, startup firms. But you've done startups for all your roles so far, and the FT could be a good option. You'll have less competition from younger startup minded devs, and get to experience the corporate environment. More stability, much better pay, but less interesting work. Another upside of corporate experience with FT is that it will equip you to work as a contractor at banks in the City of London where there's lots of well paid regulation driven work. And yet another upside of corporate experience is that it also equips you for senior tech roles at B2B startups that target corporate buyers as opposed to B2C like graze.
Man, i finished college in december and i'm doing the same thing as you, applying to a certain number of jobs, going to interviews, doing challenges and waiting, A LOT of waiting.... kk' Its hard here in Brazil too... Good luck for us two ;x
I had a job interview yesterday for a summer job. I have had great internships but I don't really care anymore. I might as well be unemployed next summer.
Just keep fucking trying. It's the only thing one can do in this crazy world today. Work harder than everyone else and demand from yourself that the job you want is definitely going to be yours. Persistance & Patience is the only way. Good luck 🙏
I'm trying to get my first compsci internship and it is so stressful because my programming skills and knowledge are so buggy that I feel I won't land anything for this summer. I also haven't worked on any big projects yet :(
let me give you a piece of advice, give us a video of how to make a table.. you should focus on those kind of videos, it musnt be difficult for you dude, and that will boost your visits.. looking forward to watching your coding videos
Why don't you apply for jobs at Whitehall, The Treasury or The Foreign Office ? Your Cambridge degree would make you an excellent Whitehall mandarin and you chances of getting a job would also be higher .
As somebody currently in their final year at Cambridge; the civil service is one of the worst places for Cambridge Students to apply. All of my friends who have applied have been rejected, they are not interested so much in where you studied your degree, placing far more importance on online assessments than CV/University reputation and grades.
Jake, you come out of a great name, Cambridge, impressive! You are quite unique in your presentation, but I feel you are far more of a people person than a developer, even though that is obviously your passion and are very good at it. You are very good indeed at marketing, and you give a good narrative, a company would be wasting a man like you if they just plonked you behind a desk with a computer and keyboard and asked you to design and type code. Still, this is just my opinion
Very surprised that a Cambridge computer science graduate is unemployed and being rejected. But i sympathise with you when it comes to small companies who just want to work you to death....
the mere title is already stressful
I really like this monthly-ish summary format, don't feel bad about doing it this way again if this works better for you :)
2:50 wow that’s a helpful trick, when I had my interview I had trouble remembering on the spot why I did certain things
I get really damn nervous when speaking to companies over the phone and even while watching you just wait for a phone call my stomach drops. Can't wait to go through this process myself in a couple weeks when i start applying for grad jobs!
What I do while I wait is stand up and stretch. Put some positive music on and have some water nearby.
Best of luck
Just imagine they are naked and have a funny hat on. It will put a smile on your face and you'll sound much more relaxed and positive for the other side. Good luck!
Omg Claudio's sudden appearance made me blush, he is so handsome
Thanks for the update. Something good will come along soon...I can feel it! #staypositive
Good to be updated on your job application!! Hope you will land a job that you both match each other, good luck!
I have also been using a Casio F-91 since primary school(Over 10 years now). My friends tell me it makes me look like a high school kid, but who cares, I see Jake you are also using the same watch.

I thought jobs for comp sci are plenty in London? Weren't there supposed to be lots of opportunities
There are loads of opportunities, he's just so picky and keeps chopping and changing from one to another. Could have easily of kept the previous job whilst looking for something better. More often than not people have to do jobs they dont like 100% but not this guy.
The kid is clearly rich and doesn't 'need' to work.
anarki777 That really couldn't be further from the truth, look into these things before saying stuff mate
you should check his videos from when he was at cambridge. he puts so much hard work into time planning etc. he's just looking for work that would suit him which software developers have the privilege of doing since there are plenty of opportunities

I'm going to a career fair with my friend Jake in an hour and watching this video now sure isn't helping me. Good luck, Jake, I have faith in you.
Ziming Wang what happened?
😎👌 working on renewable energy is the gift to the future children.
the way we are heating the planet now, there won't be any future children.
You reminded me of those days
Thanks God i got my job and i got my freedom again
You're going to do brilliantly!
4:55 nice editing bruh
I was beginning to worry about you do hope that you land on your feet and I feel that in the end, you will and the job will be better than your last, hang in there and all. will be fall in place.

Russell Tbh, the suit or charisma doesn't make the programmer. But I haven't applied for any IT jobs.
He was being himself while probably performing the technical part admirably. If I was doing the interview that is a perfect candidate.
I'm getting stressed just by watching this video LOL! 😂

Glad things are going well!
good luck jake!
I can understand “I watched the shell ad before the video”.

Claudio is still very camera shy
I'm surprised that you haven't had a good job offer yet.
Interview at Pivotal!
can you make a video of how to answer interviews of why the company and how to sell your skills?
2 months behind not bad
Just keep fucking trying. It's the only thing one can do in this crazy world today. Work harder than everyone else and demand from yourself that the job you want is definitely going to be yours. Persistance & Patience is the only way. Good luck 🙏

Nice Tips

10:28 that's what she said
Where do you find companies hiring? what resources do you use to search? please don't just say google XD
Hey Jake, while you’re unemployed you’ve got a lot of time to create some coding challenges for us to complete. Make us some puzzles!
That's a familiar accent :) the guy on the interview is a Kiwi right?
Did you have any internships during university?
No I didn’t, I always used the summer holidays to go travelling instead.
haha this is so accurate. nice video man
You know when you say "they can't see", I wonder whether your potential employers find this exact video in their Google search of you
Well Done Jake! Hope you get one of the jobs.
more html vids please
Goddamit please create your own company like a information platform for education.
same here. compsci grad and jobless 😂😂👍
I think at least you got some money from Brilliant.org, so..that is brilliant anyway :)
