I rather had waited 2 more years. It's been since 2015. At this point, I was in no rush for a season 2. Id rather get the quality this show deserves

One Punch Man had this huge popularity when it first came out. But like any popular thing, it doesn't last forever.
Executives must've feared that if they kept holding back for long, some bigger show would come and dominate the space One Punch Man once held. I don't agree with the new art style, but I understand why they decided to put it out there.
We should just hope that they make a season 3 with the original director returning back.

The animation style is what made OPM so unique. Especially those sketchy quick-paced shots where the illustrator looked like they were in just as much of a hurry as the characters themselves. Really hoping the creative team doesn't do us a huge oopsie-doopsie.

It's hard to say. Attack on Titan was a massive success in the west. However, by the time of season 2, the hype was a fraction of what it used to be.
Estrogen Fury Yeah, I love KH 1 and 2 (didn’t play any spin offs) but KH3 just disappointed me. The combat gave you too many specials moves- it felt like the game was just playing itself. (Which is a shame because I liked that you could map spells to specific buttons and change between 3 keyblade easily.) And the story was really bad. So many things that needed time to be fleshed out and explained got shoved into the last 10% of the game. And the 90% before that wasn’t interesting. And Kairi had so much build up for zero pay off. I won’t be playing it again anytime soon

Yeah, animation is different but it ain't bad. And for average viewer it won't make a real difference.. biggest drawing changes are made on saitama. Others look kinda the same. Animation sometimes feels different but again it's not bad as everyone making it. Also I don't believe you watched One punch man only because of animation. And as far as plot and comedy goes it is gold. Episode 2-3 promise a better season than 1.

To be fair, in the 90s that's where the budget and best animators were sent to. The Opening.
Though, the English opening is not the same as the Japnese opening of Pokemon. Personally, the show did looked kinda bad even in the 90's. Shows like DBZ and Beserk looked better in my opinion even though I love the Kanto series of Pokemon and is after XY the best in my opinion (but I hate the Jotoh part, 90% was so bad.....)

Though I heard the novels had started up again, usually second or third seasons depend on the popularity there is for it in Japan because I guess the west despite having enough people, lacks anyway to give the studio our money easily or effectively. After all these years I would like to hope NGNL will get another season down the line but it probably lacks the hype for a second season in Japan.

I wouldn't mind it coming out is 2022 or later as long as the animation would stay at the same level. Tbh I hope in a few years another studio will remake season 2 with better animation

Even madhouse could not have topped first season without the Director Shingo Natsume, he is the reason why so many insane animator were in S, and he is working on Boogiepop so you would have waited more than 2020
@Nik3 I'm still willing to give them the benefit of doubt but with this half baked trailer doesn't really give me much hope. I am hoping though the biggest fights have some of the best animation and that's where the majority of the budget went.
The manga is way better. i feel bad for Yusuke Murata because his style and art-work its outstanding but this new season of One Powerpoint Man doesnt show the masterpiece this shonen really is.

@@AngeliTomato333 That's the thing though Murata's art "moves". There are GIFs showing action scenes from the manga flowing seemlessly after each flip. Murata has an amazing sense of camera angles, movement and impact.
OPM season 2 is really like a PowerPoint with a lot of jump cuts and overuse of still frames

Bones are the only studio that wouldn't have been a downgrade, I consider them a step above Madhouse.

If we focus more on praising specific outstanding members of a studio than on praising only the studio or anime itself, we can expect that analysts whose job it is to find out what people want will report a more significant correlation between those members of the studio and the public success of the anime, meaning that the company which owns the studio will be less likely to take those members away from the anime as it might hurt their profitability.

I like that this Video isn't about One Punch Man in general, but about animation studios and animators.
I'm actually one of the few people that is still hyped for OPM 2 but I'm kinda sad that, in comparison, it looks so bad like you mentioned. I will still watch, and if it sucks, I'm gonna read the manga and miss season one of epic animation.
The manga's actually great and really enjoyable. Prolly one of the only ones I've read so good it almost makes me not care if it's animated.

OPM's first season was too good. After it anything could only disappoint,... and thats why this bad trailer came to be. Sure, season 2 is probably not as good as the first, but by lowering the bar first with this shitshow of a trailer they probably try to lower the expectations enough to make it enjoyable for most viewers.

Credit Where is due. If Bones had taken the job for the 2nd season, things Would have turned out differently, hopefully.
@@kronkrian100 Assuming they weren't strained, at any point, which they usually wouldn't be, but then I look back at MHA Season 3's second half (wasn't horrendous, but definitely really rough, and the result of having the show and the movie being worked on at the same time in only 6 months), and I wonder if that would've been the case. There's a reason Season 4 is taking a whole year, versus just 6 months, because now that a second movie's on the way, BONES doesn't want to repeat that, ever again (one of the guys in charge even said, as much).
@@kronkrian100 That said, production's getting better, but we don't know whether all other studios had their animators booked on other things, and JC Staff kind of felt they needed to pick up the slack, I'm not sure, though, this is mostly speculation.
Madhouse and Bones are top tier, it's no wonder the show turned out the way it did with those absolute units working together on it.

Difference with having a good studio handling an anime:
Boku no Hero - every season just keeps better and better
Because studio BONES knows how to handle the series. Another example is MOB Psycho. They paid homage to ONE's artstyle whilst having badass animation. It boils down to the studio, cause they are the ones who reviews the finished product.

I think you underestimate the fanbase, 3 seconds into the trailer I could tell something was off, I thought it was a fan-trailer, now I didn't understand why I felt that way until I watched your video, but people can tell that the same energy is just not there.

As a casual observer myself, can I make a suggestion? When you make mention of those people in your future videos to keep them associated with their work, please make sure to have their name appear in text, possibly with a picture as well, when you mention them. At least the first time each name comes up per video. Not everyone is going to care, but the ones that do will have an easier time remembering those names with a visual associated, rather than just hearing the name spoken. At least ,that's how it is for me.

The project was failed from the beginning. Its unfair to think JC could replicate the insanity and string pulling that was done to make season 1. I feel bad for JC, they get thrown this project they didn't want, and it will be impossible for them to please the viewers.

watched 2 eps of the new season... they seem to have switched out voice actors and they seem to have gone with a more cost effective method of animation where they just animated the manga as keyframes and promptly neglected to edit and make things more physics related... There just isn't the same energy as the first season
Which is disappointing for me because Garou in the manga has been a fucking engine and if season 2 had been made a year or 2 later under Madhouse what we could've expected was basically following human Boros for an entire arc.

The event. Though the animation isn't as good as it was before it's still fun to watch and I'm already interested in the story.
That's why I'm not gettin all the hate on Season 2. The story of Season 2, IMO, is significantly better than Season 1. Animation isn't, but story is 100%. I was shaken by one of the episodes in Season 2. Won't spoil but I never was nearly as shook by what happened in S1. Their animation is still GOOD even, it's not like it's bad unlike *Cough* dragon ball's * cough* was. But there's also a consistent storyline to Follow in Season 2 that Season 1 didn't technically really offer.
Finally someone who doesn't type shit like "The anime is as good as if a kid drew it on PowerPoint" which is stupid because they can't even comprehend of drawing like that.
I also didn't even notice the "Change" in animation, it looked exactly the same as me, Geno's looked more shiny and detailed and Siatama isn't even my favourite character, Fuck Sitama, Garou is the one I'm waiting for.

The new one punch man animation really isn't that bad. It's lower quality over all but the most recent episode is probably above industry average. Tank top master Vs garou was awesome.

This season has the focus on the side characters to show how Saitama changes them for the better and I love it all the same. @@LeeBankai Well the difference is that when Madhouse animated Season 1 it wasn't just them, the director called in a lot of connections and freelancers to help him out with Season 1 which is why it looks so good, so we couldn't really ever expect Season 2 to look just as good especially if the studio changed but it still looks bad tho

I don't know what you are trying to imply, but Food Wars looks great. It has the look and feel of a lot of traditional Shonen battle series, but you know is just about the food. The food itself also always looks gorgeously animated so I don't know if you are taking a shot at it or what, but if you are referencing the fact that the show uses a lot of cut-ins and illustrations, that's part of the show's presentation. It's about cooking so you're not going to get action sakuga like you would in Season 1 of One Punch Man.
But it's a mouthwatering power point presentation.

This is almost *exactly* what happened to Steins;Gate 0. The original team moves on, leaving a sub-par director to slap together what's essentially a cash-in. The result is/will be a bog standard anime affair with hints of something greater hidden beneath the layers of not giving a shit.
Steins;Gate 0 was a VN that had the same lead writers, director, and producer as the original VN.

I know this video is old but the problem of the second season was its rhythm because it has a horrible conclusion that leaves you with the total feeling that you wasted time watching this (bad animation and terrible effects did not help at all) this second season should have ended with Cosmic Garou vs Saitama not with a shitty centipede.
Directors can place a big part in the quality of a show, but they can only work with what they've got. As an animator for over a decade, I can say regardless of who's directing, if it isn't as skilled of a studio, the animation will look subpar - and it generally is a studio thing. Often, they can't kept certain talents around and a lot of animators fresh from school are hired.
The trailer is showing not only missing camera work, but a lack of basic animation principles. Stiffness is a symptom of that. Directors give direction, animators follow it to the best of their ability. They aren't really responsible for making sure their animators are above student-level. The hiring staff is.

probably won't help, they can't just scrap all the footage they have so far they would all be fired.
I think if a series has been on hault for over a year, then they may as well take as much time as they need to get it done the way it was done before, or do it better. After a year of waiting, it's kind of all the same length of time to most people, even if they kind of risk losing members of their original audience.
You cannot reanimate an entire show in less than a year.

@Sawsers True, it's a bit indulgent, with way too many of those impossibly big monsters. I do wish we'd get to just see Saitama again (like, my god when did we last see our boii??), see this arc end, and finally get on to new stuff.

Sou Mik Give it to Bones they’re legendary animators too they made godly shows like mob psycho and My hero Academia.
JC Staff may have made good shows like Toradora, Planet With, and Food Wars: Shokugeki no Soma, but none of those shows were praised on a technical standpoint. JC Staff doesn't have access to or have the track record hiring talented staff to make high quality and artistic productions like Madhouse does.
Furthermore, the quality of shows made by JC Staff has been getting much more lazy. Season One of Shokugeki no Soma was good, but there was a noticeable dip in quality in season 2, and season 3 just looked downright flat and boring.
JC Staff is NOT GOOD at producing great action shows with high quality sakuga. You can argue that it's a matter of the staff rather than the studio, but the fact of the matter is that Madhouse has a much better track record of putting together that staff than JC Staff does.
So yes, it IS a problem with the studio, because JC Staff is out of their element.
Yeah, while Toradora was great, it sure wasn't a action filled anime that required action filled fluid animation. Can't really blame JC Staff, let's just hope they do their best.

Don't know what show you watched but Season 3 of Shokugeki no Soma looked fine. It isn't built around fighting or traditional action so of course you aren't going to get tons of action sakuga in that series. The animation for that show almost all goes into the presentation of the food and the food always looks stunning.

A more recent example of a show that could have used good fight animation but just didn't get it from J.C. Staff('s staff) is Index 3.
Though that one also had terrible pacing issues on top of it. Trying to adapt about 11 novels in 26 episodes is really story of that series and many of its faults.
Changes in staff and studio do not have to be terrible, take Oregairu for example.
But it is more reassuring to have a certain consistency. I'm just happy Chihayafuru stayed at Madhouse.

I enjoyed the first 2 episodes of season 2. Season 1 was god-tier, so season 2 would always disappoint. Be glad it went to JC Staff - they could have sent it to a much less capable studio, the list is long. I just hope they pull up their socks and turn up the heat on the quality & energy though.

The new studio is even more of an underdog than the first one, if you can believe it. Their only two credits on MAL are "Folktales from Japan" and "Milky Panic" which was made for the Young Animator Project. So basically, Kadokawa auctioned the production to the lowest bidder so they could use it as adspace for the idol penguin albums. Kinda like season 1 but without the miracle.
