  • This glovework, saving little Alvaro Espinosa from a notch in the error column, is no more important or poignant than any of the other gems that The Don gave us in the 80s. But it sure is a sweet little reminder why the man has such a place in the memory of the game.
More than just a titan bat in the middle of the line-up during the most turbulent era of Yankees ball, that glove made the man the epitome of what a ballplayer was supposed to look like. Put a Tom Sellick-esque stash on the guy, accent with a touch of eye-black during a day game, and you've got the icon that rests in a 80s Yankee fan's mind. And just look at the way the fella wore his cap; not the welded-on look that El Duque and Conie sported in the 90s, distinctly different than the flat brimmed, fresh-off-the-rack styling a al The Giambino or Mike Ford. Yeah, that scrunched up, just out of Mum's washing machine look screams dude's era of the game.
    So, so good.
    Viva la Don!
