I'm from Boston was born in 1976 and I still have a note for Christmas that I wrote to my mother. I asked her for Don mattingly rookie. She got it for me. That guy was so smooth at the plate
Of course Don Mattingly pulled his own rookie card in a random draw, out of just two packs, on video. That's exactly the kind of man that Don Mattingly is.
Don Mattingly was one of my favorite baseball players growing up. I collected a lot of his cards and I have that 1984 Topps rookie card in my collection.
I am from Evansville IN like Don and when I was a kid I met him at my cousins basketball game. I was beyond excited to meet him and he signed a piece of paper for me that my mom had pulled out of her purse. I still have it all these years later with one of his cards in a frame. I will always remember how kind he was to me.
Being from the Evansville, Indiana area, and loving collecting cards as a kid, Mattingly is one of my all time favorites. I never got any packs until '86, and Topps was my favorite card company. I did pull a Tony Gwynn out of a pack of '83 Topps I fond while helping the owner of a store that I used to by cards at as a kid, in the early 2000's. Speaking of Topps, I now have almost every 1986 Topps baseball card ever except the Topps traded Tiffany set, and a few of the harder to find Topps 3d cards.
This is fantastic. Thank you so much for doing these. Mattingly is what every kid should aspire to be -- clean-cut, humble, respectful, studious, and one of the purest hitters the game has ever known. Thanks for the wonderful memories, Donny Baseball. He WILL land in Cooperstown eventually.
It kind of amazes me as time has gone by that Mattingly never got a coaching opportunity with the Yankees. He'd be a great manager for the Yankees today.
Now Donny baseball will always be my favorite and this is a fun video miss you playing 84 was the 1st and best year for me collecting baseball cards still wish I could meet you Don you were fun to watch play a great game.
It makes sense that Don Mattingly is totally oblivious to the condition of the cards since he could actually play baseball and was involved in other stuff like actually dating real women, etc. And I say this as someone who has many PSA 10 graded cards.
Don mattingly was my hitting idol growing. Seeing him pull his own rookie card after just 2 packs made me sick after what i went through. Im sure that was a coincidence.
claudell washington. i remember him playing right field in yankee stadium. there was a guy in the bleachers that had a big sign that said "claudell washington slept here".
THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN SO AWESOME TO SEE HIM AUTOGRAPH HIS OWN ROOKIE CARD AS HE PULLED IT OUT OF THE PACK I THINK THAT CARD THEN WOULD HAVE BEEN WORTH A TON
Legend, I've opened a bunch of packs trying for that card and he does it in 2 LOL. Favorite card was the Mattingly, but love the Carew. most of all love all the stories! Thanks for sharing this!
I've never seen a pack of 1984 topps where Don Mattingly was pulled and Broderick Perkins wasn't the card before Donnie baseball. Ive personally pulled a few and every single time, the pre-cursor card was Broderick Perkins for the Indians. Kinda weird.
JUST AN INCREDIBLE HITTER! HE SHOULD BE IN THE HALL OF FAME! BEING A HUGE YANKEE FAN, MATTINGLY WAS MY GUY, AND IN MY OPINION, HE WAS THE GREATEST FIELDING FIRST BASEMAN OF ALL TIME! PERIOD!
“Gotta keep those edges perfect” as mere seconds earlier she’s tapping the bottom edge of the card on the table like she’s straightening out a deck of playing cards.
Saw the Yankees play a weekend series with the Brewers. Donnie would not sign and he took his own car not the bus when leaving. 1984. Be careful with that card, put it in a sleeve!
1984 Topps is still my favorite design.
The obvious Hall of Famer. What a player, what a man.
The world became a better place on Thursday April 20,1961 with the birth of Donald Arthur Mattingly in Evansville,Indiana!⚾🇺🇸
LOL 7:00 You just gotta love her reaction to him pulling his own card :)
Even though I'm a Red Sox fan (!), Donnie Baseball was my favorite player when I was in college.
I'm from Boston was born in 1976 and I still have a note for Christmas that I wrote to my mother. I asked her for Don mattingly rookie. She got it for me. That guy was so smooth at the plate
I ripped a lot of 84 and never could pull Donnie Baseball. He rips 2 packs and does it. He could always get hits. Donnie 4 HOF!
Bc its staged
@@kmangio Yep. I never found his RC until I was 40+ in of all things a mixed Dollar Tree pack!.
He is very deserving of the hall!!!! I hope he gets in before my lifetime!!!👍
@@dannysunay4386 If his team had won a WS, he'd be in.
Revealed silly.
My favorite Yankee of all time! #23 forever!
Met Don many, many times in his hometown of Evansville. He's 100% one of the nicest human beings you would want to meet.
This is an enjoyable podcast concept
Still my favorite player of all time. Wore 23 in Little League back in 86 and it's still my favorite number to this day.
So right about Carew. Top 5 professional hitter all-time. Mattingly was a pro's pro. Enjoyable clip......
Of course Don Mattingly pulled his own rookie card in a random draw, out of just two packs, on video. That's exactly the kind of man that Don Mattingly is.
exactly....kind of like his line drives always seemed to find a gap
Don has a great personality and communication skills ans so down to earth he would be my manager if I owned a team
Very cool! All time favorite! Get him in the hall!!!! Donny baseball is legendary
This is really cool, it’s like watching someone go through a photo album of people they used to work with at a job they really liked
My all time favorite. What a good guy.
Mine too!
Yes what a great person
Don Mattingly was one of my favorite baseball players growing up. I collected a lot of his cards and I have that 1984 Topps rookie card in my collection.
Seems like a great person to talk baseball with. Donnie Baseball was such a fabulous player to watch!
Back in 85 the mattingly donruss rookie card was worth $200 . It was the most valuable card of that year by far.
Wow. That was a mint. I remember the Canseco a year or two later. If you had that card/ you were the man!
Brandon huh? Haha too cute.
How ridiculously cool is Don, and that he pulled his own RC? Awesome stuff, Topps

Word Josh.
love ya Donnie but killin those corners! LOL
Yes he was, but that signed rookie would still fetch a nice price.
Donnie was THE card to have back then. Never had a rookie 😢
Strawberry card was equal.
Love this video and Don Mattingly is a class act
Put this man in the HOF, He was better than half the guys that are in, Seems like such a great guy, Donnie Baseball
It's ridiculous.... he almost made it the last Modern Day voting session. 8 votes out of 16, needed 12.
Put Donnie Baseball in the HOF right now!!!!!
It kind of amazes me as time has gone by that Mattingly never got a coaching opportunity with the Yankees. He'd be a great manager for the Yankees today.
A doorstop would be a better manager than Aaron Boone
Popcorn upgrades like Choco Carmel drizzle and those cool popcorn balls ✌️
This is so cool to watch
Love donnie baseball ⚾️ ❤️
Donnie Baseball was my favorite player. Consummate pro. Wish he had been healthier, would have put up amazing numbers. Still should be in the HOF. 🏆🏆
He simply took too much BP. Always hitting. Swing after swing. He mentioned that in a documentary that he basically wore his back out.
So awesome that Donny Baseball pulled is own card during the rip, very cool. Favorite player card Don pulled Is Nolan Ryan. Thanks
He’s super magic. That’s why.
That's why he's Donnie Baseball. Man has so many baseball stories it's insane.
My all-time favorite player growing up
I have soooooooooo many Donnie Baseball cards, memorabilia, autographed jersey...awesome. Favorite player. Go Yanks.
Raw Mattingly 1984 Topps rookie card = $15-20. Raw 1984 Topps rookie card pulled, dented, and signed by Mattingly = priceless
The legend! Lots of great cards there. Mattingly RC!! 💪😎
This was a great episode of topps Ripping Packs!
7:00 he proceeds to destroy the condition of the card in the next 30 seconds or so haha....
Pretty awesome that he pulled his card! He was my favorite player as a kid and I collected all of his cards that I could find!
Yeah. What a fuckin coincidence. 👎
@@flipjupiter1lol total opened up the pack and slid it up in there. Setup.
Now Donny baseball will always be my favorite and this is a fun video miss you playing 84 was the 1st and best year for me collecting baseball cards still wish I could meet you Don you were fun to watch play a great game.
It is CRIMINAL that he is not in the Hall
It makes sense that Don Mattingly is totally oblivious to the condition of the cards since he could actually play baseball and was involved in other stuff like actually dating real women, etc.
And I say this as someone who has many PSA 10 graded cards.

claudell washington. i remember him playing right field in yankee stadium. there was a guy in the bleachers that had a big sign that said "claudell washington slept here".
My favorite baseball player ever !!!!
I have about 20 raw NM versions of Don's topps RC and still can never have enough.
Loved how Donnie was manhandling his rookie card and lowering the value by 5 points.
Both of them
Yeah, she was quick to put it in a sleeve before he dinged the card again.
Thought that the whole time! I’m like I love you Donnie but cmon this isn’t a card game!!! Those are a different!!!
RIGGED!!! But I love the interview with Don Mattingly....he is awesome
Probably a resealed pack. Maybe not.... rip som gpk!!
Love Don Mattingly
Love how he bangs the cards on the table
My childhood hero, Mr. Mattingly.
Excellent share.
My favorite episode yet.
i loves so much collect cards
THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN SO AWESOME TO SEE HIM AUTOGRAPH HIS OWN ROOKIE CARD AS HE PULLED IT OUT OF THE PACK I THINK THAT CARD THEN WOULD HAVE BEEN WORTH A TON
11:20
Seems like such a nice guy
Always loved Donnie as a kid until I got to meet him. He refused to sign an auto for me when I was 8....heart broken.
Also love to mention my Roar of 84 bless you boys Tigers winning the World Series in 84. So it made it a very fun time for me collecting 🙂
Hell yeah! Donnie Baseball!
If I was the host, I would have been having an internal breakdown not being able to correct Mr Baseball on card handling.
Eh most of those were commons anyway
Yeah, he was definitely manhandling those cards...look at all the bent ones on the table...lol
Should say something only a fool wouldn't.
Even Donnie Baseball knows it’s all just junk wax hot garbage with the exception of him. Yet he had a story to tell for most of them.
He’s a multi millionaire, what does he care?
Legend, I've opened a bunch of packs trying for that card and he does it in 2 LOL. Favorite card was the Mattingly, but love the Carew. most of all love all the stories! Thanks for sharing this!
of course topps gave a juiced pack for a channel rip. what else is new
This was spectacular.
Happy to see him with the Jays
Glad he pulled his own Rookie We
Subscribed to Topps Just now because you have Mattingly on here .. Pretty Cool !!!
Mattingly, get rid of those sideburns.
Kirk Gibson and Don were my heroes. Also George Foster to a lesser degree because he was in all the variety packs at Toys R US.
I've never seen a pack of 1984 topps where Don Mattingly was pulled and Broderick Perkins wasn't the card before Donnie baseball. Ive personally pulled a few and every single time, the pre-cursor card was Broderick Perkins for the Indians. Kinda weird.
Great interview young lady! ☺️
Love you Donnie 😎
Those packs are repacked. 😂
Can't belive that auto didn't turn into a 1 of 1 in archives.
what a great idea.
What a "coincidence" he pulls his own card 🙄
I Know right, and her reaction didn't help.
Yeah, that was fixed. Those wax packs were far too easy for tampering and then this video proves it once more.
Class act!
Donnie Baseball 4 Life!
He still got those sideburns!
A lot of people don't realize that back in the day if they autograph the card it hurt the value
Saw the Yankees play a weekend series with the Brewers. Donnie would not sign and he took his own car not the bus when leaving. 1984. Be careful with that card, put it in a sleeve!
He belongs in the Hall!
I had to buy his rookie, never got lucky enough to pull one. I do have a PSA 9 o pee chee Mattingly that I'm quite fond of.
Imagine : Don Mattingly, Ricky Henderson and Dave Winfield on the same team with no ring.
Bring back the stash Donnie!
Best hitter of the 80s next to Gwynn and Boggs
“Thee man, Rod Carew”
A's and Reds fan, interesting
GEE Wonder if there is no chance the pack was tampered with to make the video better? lol.......
I'll take the signed Rookie!!!!
Topps doesn't need to open a pack to know what cards are inside. Ofcourse he opens his rookie card
Rookie Mattingly what !!!!!
Grab some 2021 Series 1 NFTs - Topps 1st NFT release ever! SUPER RARE
People don't realize Don Mattingly kept his rookie cards when kids sent them to him to get signed I'm a Yankees fan but not Don Mattingly fan
Haha where did this story come from
7:22... He pulls his Rookie card, and then she bangs it on the table. WTF! Probably dinged a corner
She just told Donnie baseball…. That’s what baseball is all about! The nerve….
Donnie Baseball pulling his own card is just great! He deserves to be in the hall in my mind and that’s coming from a yankee haters since birth lol
So how much is a 84 Mattingly pulled by the man himself worth? With auto?
He pulled himself lol
