This may indeed cause some difference in part throttle shift points, because it pertains to the throttle position adaptive reset. This is a rather well known procedure that was originally published by BMW, with a few modification's to the above technique. The procedure was used for resetting the throttle position orientation after coming out of limp mode. Limp mode can be triggered by a host of mechanical problems, but also with something as simple as a low battery, which will affect communication with the DME. After repairing/ replacing the suspect component, and registering new battery, and clearing the DTC, then the procedure is as follows. Place key in ignition. With no pedal depressed push start until ignition mode. Position 2 with engine not started. Depress the accelerator pedal for 30-60 seconds (more wont affect this). With pedal still depressed, turn ignition off, release pedal, and wait for 3 minutes. During this time you will hear a faint mechanical buzzing. Start the vehicle normally and drive. During the first start stop sequence and possibly the second, some people will see a AWD error message. If so, pull over, and stop the engine. If you have one, then it's okay to clear any codes with a scanner (ignition on), before continuing to drive. This may never occur, but if so, rarely does more than twice after the reset. Many times the AWD or 4x4 message will simply go out after restarting. I was told that after the throttle adaptation reset, the vehicles equipped with AWD will want to see the transfer case actuator perform a full sweep, before calibrating. This may be achieved by simply driving. Thus the word "adaptive". As another viewer mentioned, this procedure will not affect the transmission shift parameters, but the noticeable difference will be a result of the relative throttle position. Thanks OP for the video and good luck to all.
i have a question i replaced an engine and trans in a 06 bmw 325 i i got it running everything is fine except the 6 speed transmission, the problem is it feels like its going into all the gears but when i let the clutch out its holding back like the e-brake is applied and when i put it in neutral and let the clutch out it will move like its in gear i can actually drive the car out of the garage in neutral has anyone ever experienced something like this
Can’t thank you enough. Been stressing the last month or 2 thinking my transmission was going out due to abrupt shifting and lower than normal acceleration from stopped and in the bottom 2 gears. Did this and all my gears are consistent and not jerky, saved me the stress!

Great video and trick! Thanks for sharing, I have that message comes oddly with a 2011 750i xdrive with only 65000. It comes after every couple trips and only when you start the car for the next 3rd or 4th trip, it will disappear from the cluster and car status menu right when you drive. Even if I do this trick and I did it, it goes away when you drive any ways before the trick, not sure if it is coming back or not.... I will get it diagnosed and see. Is this trick suppose to erase the message when you start the car and before the car drives?
I have a transmission malfunction it’s in limp mode does run normal at 3 gear but once I hit a stop and try to accelerate it will just rev When I put it in reverse it drives normal any clue on how I could take it out of limp mode or is it my alternator
NO. You need the BMW software INPA, or ISTA, or DIS to reset the adaptations for the transmission. LIkely, if you have an automatic and it is a zf transmission, is that your transmission has one or more seals that are torn or damaged, and / or solenoids in the valve body may be failing. The only way you can be sure is to pull the fault codes.
In most cases the mechatronic seal fails to hold pressure and causes this. It's a $15 rubber seal part that goes between your transmission valve (AKA mechatronic) body and bottom of transmission casing. You don't have to remove the tranny though the pan, filter, and valve body has to be removed to replace it. Be careful of the conductor plate that it connected to the valve body because they are very expensive part.
A little clarification on the part makes. There is a sealing sleeve for the mechatronics for the wiring that leaks. Yes, It is common for them to have problems with leakage, but you won’t have shift problems unless it’s leaked to the point your fluid level is low. For my problem (car would get trans failsafe, park engage fail when revving in park, clunky stop and go in parking lots) it was the bridge seal or valve body seal between the mechatronics valve assy and the transmission. $15 or so part and the same for the mechatronics seal as well. Replace both and the pan / filter assy and use ZF fluid. Mine has gone another 60K miles since I did it.

Woke up this morning, got in my 2008 BMW 750 Li and the R N D P indicator on my vehicle are blinking as soon as I turn the ignition on. The vehicle starts up just fine but displays the message " Transmission fault...Drive moderately " on the dash board and on the navigation screen it says "The fault may be resolved by restarting " THE CAR WON'T SHIFT, NOT TO REVERSE OR TO DRIVE. ANY IDEAS ???????
Did you ever fix this I have the same issue and I’m like 300 miles away from home and I need to get back. I really need help solving this issue I have no one to help me and I spent all my money on hotel rooms but now I’m just about out and This is keeping me from getting home
@@breepina8578 The first few times it happened, I just disconnected the battery for a 15 minutes or so and it went back to normal mode but eventually fixed the transmission partially {cost was around 1k]. If this is the first time that's happened, it might reset by itself. Its all about luck. But rest assured, if some mechanic tells you to replace the whole transmission, you don't, only partial. Good Luck !
Hey....thanks for the video it was very helpful. I have a question that is off topic. When your E-brake is on and you go to take the car from park to drive......does it actually change out on the dash or stays in park? I have been working days trying to figure out the problem
Kissie 26 I believe once you go from Park to Drive it does automatically removes the e-brake, but when I use the e-brake I just push it first, then go from park to drive. A side note is unless your on a hill or driveway that has slope to it, I wouldn't use my e-brake, I'm always parking on flat surface so I never use it, Our cars have known to have e-brake issues that the e-brake wears out after much use, hope this helps:)

hello my friend thank you for the video that make me think many things now about my mechanic! i have a transmission problem my gears where kicking hard on my 750i 2006! and he charged me a new cpu of the transmission saying wait a week until the cpu gets adapted on my driving way! is that normal still after 2 weeks having problems with the shifts?? it dosent kick anymore by the way!
Like your videos. Very informative. 2004 E65 745i 105k miles and drives like a dream until this wknd when the dream turned into a nightmare. Was at a stop light when Abs light, park brake malfunction flashed on dash and info screen, pressed park brake button lights went out then transmission fail safe came on and only gear available was drive which i was in. Transmission failsafe drive moderately message on dash flashed so i Limped the 5 miles to home and parked with no other gears available, car when into park only when it was shut off. Battery was replaced on 11 24 16 and never had any problems or messages/ warning lights. What can it be, where should i start?

2007 M6 SMG Problem - HELP!!! Hydraulic pressure too low using GT1 Dis to run transmission adaptation. Problem: The old hydraulic pump was bad so I replace with a new motor, the car was able to start but was not able to drive long, maybe about 25 miles and car just shut off, all light on dash comes on with the red cog of death. It says I need to peform transmission adaptation but while performing the adaptation with GT1 Dis it fails, said the hydraulic pressure to low. Everything passes except that part. Troubleshooting: - got it in the air, topped off CHF11s fluid to SMG tank. It was a little low, but not much - replaced both salmon and black relay close by - at this point, SMG pump can be heard when opening door/etc - car stayed for a few days, after that upon door opening pump started and I was able to start car and shift gears... Everytime car don't start I use the GT1 and manually activate the pump, pressure raised to 85 shutdown value in like 5 seconds. - after that car starts and was able to go shift in gear. - when trying to do SMG adaptation with activating pump manually prior to that - it starts, goes into transmission adaptations and falls out with error "hydraulic pressure is too low". About to wire a manual switch to salmon relay lol Any ideas? Could it be one of these that is bad? 1. Pressure accumulator Part# 23 01 7 838 933 2.Temperature sensor water/oil Part# 13 62 1 433 076 3. Pressure sensor Part# 23 01 7 838 936 Maybe losing pressure too fast or could this also be hydraulic pressure sensor or oil/temp sensor? Why pump operates perfectly when I manually run GT1 to engage it, but not turning on on low pressure? Pressure sensor bad? Sorry for the long post. I appreciate any help! If you have any idea whats wrong or where I should start you can send me instruction to my email at longyoa@gmail.com thanks!
Long Yoa I have a 2005 645ci SMG. My car is stuck in 5th gear with the red cog. I used to hear the pump prime and the problem was Intermitten. But now I can't even hear the pump. The car just won't start. I realized I was driving for months with a ebox fan failure. Is my transmission control module ECU fried?
DIYsavecash, I been having my (transmission malfunction) drive moderate light on in my 2005 745Li. I took it to my mechanic and the transmission doesn't send any code, to give us an idea what could be the problem. But we still did a full transmission service, the car had 113k miles. So he put a new plastic pan w/ the filter attached, new oil and after he was done he put the scanner again but the transmission doesn't send any codes to reset it. The transmission malfunction drive moderate light didn't go away. Do you have in mind what could be the problem. I would appreciate if you could help me figure out how to reset or fix it
Great stuff Chris Don't forget guys, each key 'learns' different driving styles too. So if your kid is going to use the car give him a spare and when he returns, drive the car with that key for a while, the way it then shifts will tell you whether he's been ragging it or driving sensibly.
I have a 2008 750li seems to have a lag, not sure if it's turbo lag or not but after initial lag drives fine, had the car for 40k miles and it always had a slight lag, did this fix last long or did it cause more issues down the line, also thanks for the videos awesome information and its truly appreciated your channel is awesome
Hey Daryl, firstly, I'm new to your DIYs but really appreciate what I've seen so far! Thanks!Secondly, have you ever heard of a warning "Trans in N position only when engine on!" coming on after a transmission pan/filter and fluid has been changed? My 2002 745Li doesn't want to shift into gear right now... This is happening right now! LOL
I was ready to blast this as pure BS since most of the information regarding how to re-set the tranny adaptive learn is garbage. The only way I knew how to do it was using INPA. I have a 2003 E66 760Li with an M5 diff and it's touchy when you first re-set the adaptive learn and takes quite a few miles to get comfy with the new learn session. Otherwise, it goes into transmission failsafe because it's not recognizing my M5 diff's final drive ratio. Well, I was driving to work and thought I would exercise it a bit since I just got a new ECU upgrade, and since it had been 30 miles or so, I thought the trans was ready. I went into trans fail safe and did NOT bring my laptop. I was pissed. Decided to look this up on my iPad and try it and it got rid of the failsafe mode. I was pretty surprised. Thanks for posting. One comment, I seriously doubt the noise you hear is the adaptive learn being re-set. It's highly unlikely the mode is something in hardware. I spend a lot of time in radio-ready mode and you can hear all sorts of funny clicks and noises from fuel pressure rails charging up, to the AC flaps moving, etc.
Which is it fellas, I need to know before I do it. Just got my 745... shifts fast, so I wanna reset but engine light gave p0442, p2187, p2189.... so idk if I should reset it.
LeMicheal Wilson II Hello, yes I'm still doing videos:) everythings running pretty good right now, but I have a couple projects in the works:) Thanks stay tuned:)
LeMicheal Wilson II Hello, I checked my email I didn't see one, I think I may have given you my youtube name not my email try this one diysavemoney@yahoo.com Thanks:)
Man, this procedure has gone viral. It's really amazing how misinformation spreads. This does NOT reset transmission adaptations. The only way to reset adaptations is with the proper tool, be it INPA on a laptop or other BMW specific scan tool that has the capability.
+DIYsavecash Hi,I would like to know,if I do this to my e39 1999 it will work? actually I did it there was not any sound but I think transmission is change good and goes smooth, but i am not sure 100%this worked or not any way thank you very much for videos.
ZF6 transmission is as expensive as cocaine to work on. This reset procedure will not fix a transmission that’s starting to screw up. Very few people can even work on this ufo technology....
Simulating a prolonged kickdown only puts adaptive shifting into aggressive mode. This method achieves nothing in terms of gearbox adaptation reset. Also, as you drive along, adaptive transmission will go back to eco, normal or sport mode, depends on your driving style. This method has never reset any slip ratio adaptations in any single BMW model. Familiarize yourself with transmission electronics and then apply yourself.

Does this work if your vehicle keep saying transmission fault and keep putting your car in neutral
NO. You need the BMW software INPA, or ISTA, or DIS to reset the adaptations for the transmission. LIkely, if you have an automatic and it is a zf transmission, is that your transmission has one or more seals that are torn or damaged, and / or solenoids in the valve body may be failing. The only way you can be sure is to pull the fault codes.
more then likely its the mechatronic unit it's self causing it to erratic shift 5000 fix

Hope you have warranty it's expensive to change the stem seal valves. My 7 series had the same problem. Good thing I had warranty. You're looking anywhere between $6,000 to $8,000
You can buy or rent a tool to change valve stem seals its a job but not to bad if you can follow instructions
Please provide some info on this because I'm not aware of an instruction set to follow. Thanks.
Hello, I don't think you can do this with your OBD reader, I believe you can only do it the way in the video. I did some research and folks are talking about a nice difference. Enjoy:)
hi sir my bmw 530i model 2005 has starting problem some times its very delay and then after if i drive and start again its perfect but if its stay like 4 hours again same problem i change fuel pump filter petrol relay and battery also still the same can you guide me please
Did you fix the problem?
How many minutes you wait after start a car
2007 M6 SMG Problem - HELP!!! Hydraulic pressure too low using GT1 Dis to run transmission adaptation.
Problem:
The old hydraulic pump was bad so I replace with a new motor, the car was able to start but was not able to drive long, maybe about 25 miles and car just shut off, all light on dash comes on with the red cog of death. It says I need to peform transmission adaptation but while performing the adaptation with GT1 Dis it fails, said the hydraulic pressure to low. Everything passes except that part.
Troubleshooting:
- got it in the air, topped off CHF11s fluid to SMG tank. It was a little low, but not much
- replaced both salmon and black relay close by
- at this point, SMG pump can be heard when opening door/etc
- car stayed for a few days, after that upon door opening pump started and I was able to start car and shift gears...
About to wire a manual switch to salmon relay lol
Any ideas? Could it be one of these that is bad?
1. Pressure accumulator Part# 23 01 7 838 933
2.Temperature sensor water/oil Part# 13 62 1 433 076
3. Pressure sensor Part# 23 01 7 838 936
Maybe losing pressure too fast or could this also be hydraulic pressure sensor or oil/temp sensor?
Iceman08900 not sure it use a similar pump as the m6, i believe you have a bad pump motor. Usually, when motor is nad you will be able put it to gear.
This is just throttle adaptations reset.
Transmission adaptations reset can only be done through legacy software and OBD scanner.
I would appreciate if you could help me figure out how to reset or fix it
that is the proper method. you have to clear the error memory before adaptation reset if not the car does weird things.
Great advice I’ve tried and it works
Does this work on e46 chassis
Dear , when I need to do this ?
Great stuff Chris
Don't forget guys, each key 'learns' different driving styles too.
So if your kid is going to use the car give him a spare and when he returns,
drive the car with that key for a while, the way it then shifts will tell you whether
he's been ragging it or driving sensibly.
bustabloodklaaart great call on this one, thank you for the tip.
“Turbo lag”😂😂
Will that work on an x5
Anyone with a e66 have first gear bog down when you punch it then take off in 2nd?
I have the same problem did u find the solution to it?
@@BO-bd4nm not yet.
Chris Rodgers okay thnx
@@BO-bd4nm anything yet?
Very cool, I need to get my hands on this and redo some coding in my car, great find:)
LOL
Adam Smith did u ever fix ur problem
yes,i very happy to share it but if have any question about obd or anyting, you can ask me all times
Adapt gearbox ecu by pressing throttle??? Ok, you are the one with the website! The only way is to use ISTA/INPA. Sorry to disappoint.
Worked for me and no displayed messages, thanks.
Great, let me know if you notice any difference.

I spend a lot of time in radio-ready mode and you can hear all sorts of funny clicks and noises from fuel pressure rails charging up, to the AC flaps moving, etc.
slkttop thanks for the comment, glad the video could help:)
Yes you have to use INPA to reset tranny. What he's demonstrating in the video has to do with the throttle body.
And this work for e87 12d
Hood cable broken help
Excellent please let me know how?
My 745i 2002 is saying transmission malfunction what could be the problem I haven't moved the car in a year help please
it doesn't work for my 745li I tried 3 times
it has anything with the transmission reset! The thing you did was a throttle adaptation..
Whatever you call it, it's the same thing! It just resets the memory of your driving style and re-learns it. useful when buying a used car.
no it resets throttle sensitivity. you need a scan tool like inpa dis or other high end scan tool to clear it.
Which is it fellas, I need to know before I do it. Just got my 745... shifts fast, so I wanna reset but engine light gave p0442, p2187, p2189.... so idk if I should reset it.

Are you still doing videos?
LeMicheal Wilson II Hello, yes I'm still doing videos:) everythings running pretty good right now, but I have a couple projects in the works:) Thanks stay tuned:)
I was wondering if I can get your email information or #. I have a 2006 750LI and I would like your expertise on the ins and outs.
sure, you can ask here, or you can email me DIYsavecash. have a great evening:)
DIYsavecash just wrote you a email on your yahoo! Thanks again love your videos!!
LeMicheal Wilson II Hello, I checked my email I didn't see one, I think I may have given you my youtube name not my email try this one diysavemoney@yahoo.com Thanks:)
Dude you are the best I was really worried now I could tell my wife and she doesn't tell me
you website expired on 2018-04-09... so go ahead and fix that because I wanted to check your videos...
How does it go? "Eeh eeh!"
Do you know how to reset the ram backup ??
thanks very helpful I have a bmw 750i.
ZF6 transmission is as expensive as cocaine to work on. This reset procedure will not fix a transmission that’s starting to screw up. Very few people can even work on this ufo technology....
Ok sure thing!
😂😂😂
wow very smart trick! you are the best! all you'r video help my! thank you so much!
I like the downshifting in 6th gear by tapping the accelerator, sweet on the highway!!
U saved my life buddy
Well this fixed the issue that my transmission was having thanks a million
Awesome video 🔥💪🏾
do you want some in easy to make one and very cheap about27bath or about 0.863 dollar and software you can download in internet.

thanks Chris I'll try it today,,,
i have a problem in the transminssion. it gets stuck in the third gear. they said i need to change the valve body....is it true???
Great, thank you:)
