this is my favorite fight in the game, and i think it is also one of the sickest demon designs in the entire overarching series. the monolithic presentation of the tranquil meditative state where he's just toying with the player and how it transitions seamlessly into a more beast-like form when he starts taking things more seriously is chef kiss material
However I don't think this voice lives up to all of that. It's not a bad performance at all though and this casting works well for Hikawa on his own, the actor does carry the air of someone who's clearly lacking something in his heart yet thinks highly of himself due to being empowered by extreme ambition and confidence, but he didn't really switch his performance effectively to a malevolent deity who's toying with the player. I think just a colder tone of voice would've done wonders.
I remember my first time fighting this bloke. I made a joke about him constantly sitting and spouting some weird rules to waste my time. So I taunted him. "You going to sit there all day and let me wail my fists on you?" Then he stood up and the sound track began changing. My only reaction. "Oh Shi- He got up! And He looks terrifying now!"
I don't think it's neccesarily the compression, it straight up sounds like a different version than the one released on the OST. With other tracks you can clearly hear it's the same theme but lower quality, but here the main organ sounds different and the guitar solo is much clearer.

Ahriman is one of the Demons who should be obtainable. As well as Chiakis Form. But nobody would wish for Noah. Smt 5 has also a few Bosses who should be obtainable Demons.
I once battled this guy using Dante's Provoke skill to increase my damage output, thinking dekaja would nullify the attack boost. Little did I knew that when Ahriman would use Apocalypse, it would deal over 600 damage to all my party so uhhh yeah, don't be a doofus like me
Are... you sure you didn't previously debuff his attack BEFORE using Provoke? If you did War Cry > Provoke, the Provoke cancels out the attack decrease, meaning Dekaja would be absolutely pointless here. If you did Provoke > Dekaja, the Dekaja should have brought him to neutral attack. Either way, Provoke doesn't increase Magic damage because it only raises physical attack like Tarukaja does, which means Ahriman was hitting you at neutral for 600 damage on his skill, regardless of the Provoke.
I'm not digging the Reason bosses having their summoners' voices. Baal Avatar doesn't even sound like a woman in the original version, so she(?) clearly doesn't have Chiaki's voice.
@@kichiroumitsurugi4363 the sponsoring gods are just glorified mechsuits/powerups, in pretty much the same way the Chaos Hero fusing with a demon works in SMT1. Ngl the compressed soundtrack makes the reason boss theme so much better
Still wish they would remove the PS2 sound compression effect in the Remaster though.
