Watch the NPR Tiny Desk series. The version of Anyhow is pretty cool. At the end, Susan is clearly flirting with Derek (“I would do anything…”) and Derek nearly blushes. Also, seeing all those people in that room is cool.

That bassist is Otiel Burbridge. He played in Aquarium Rescue Unit with Col. Bruce, Jimmy Herring. He Played with the Allman brothers for a long time and currently plays with Dead and Co. His brother, Kofi, played Keys and Flute. Kofi passed last year. You should do some stuff off of the performance from lockn where they covered the album Layla by Derek and the Dominoes.

I first met Otiel in 1991 with ARU, I’d never seen a 6st bass before.

My niece dated Kofi for a year and a half before he passed…. What a loss of a great talent and his brother is on the bass , formally of the Allman Brothers band.

Love the Indian-style raga intro, especially when both guitars play in unison. Such a groove, such smooth chord changes, such a voice and lyrics. And then the outro guitar solo, perfection.
Soul in bushels with that bass line. The whole band is stellar. Don't get no better. Allman Bros are so, so good. Trucks solos are musically to the point. Nothing wasted. Oh, by the way Susan is a 1991 grad from the Berklee School of Music. Enough said.

To me Derek is absolutely at the top of his game and my definitively #1 in the game today! That version of the band with the Burbridge brothers Kofi (RIP) on keys and flute and Oteil (Bass) was second to none!!!! Derek and Oteil played many years together with the Allman Brothers as well.

Lol, I've seen her live. Tedeschi is one show and Derek is the other. It is like two shows and one. Each day I'm alive it baffles me that some of the best music is not mainstream music. We all know that Chris Stapleton finally made it to the mainstream. I've been following Chris Stapleton for over 12 years. I'm thankful to have seen him before he was mainstream because now he is too expensive to go see LOL. I have been close enough to Stapleton in the past to get sprayed by a sneeze LOL.

Susan is not just a great singer but also a guitarist of rare expertise. I agree that Derick is probably the greatest slide player of his generation. The bassist is Oteil Burbridge who was immortalised by Tal Wilkenfeld as "Oatmeal Bandabe" on her first album. Sadly the keyboardist died in 2019. He was Kofi Burbridge, Oteil brother.
This is one of my favourite tracks and hopefully will get played at my funeral!

I loved your reaction. I think that hearing the song before you react has some advantages compared to the first time reactors. For instance many reactions miss the bass player. Both have their place though. On my first listen I liked the bass, but my second listen gave me a chance to appretiate how much he was making the foundation that the rest could work with. I also liked the brass, they were in the background but without them the song would be missing a key ingredient.
Of course Tedeschi and Truks are great muscians and have crafted a sound that is just the best of the genre. I usualy dislike singers who "sing scales" and never hold a note, but Susan does a masterful job. She taught me that when done right and used where it works, it is beautiful thing.

Love your reaction video! Only wondering why you used such an old version of this song. The band has changed a lot since that line up. Oteil Burbridge left (replaced by Tim Lefebvre who also left), Kofi Burbridge passed away, JJ Johnson left, added a trombone and another back up singer. Of the people in the line up you showed, Derek, Susan, Kebbi Williams, Tyler Greenwell, Mike Mattison and Mark Rivers are still in the band. New members are Gabe Dixon, Brandon Boone, Isaac Eady, Elizabeth Lea, Ephraim Owens and Alicia Chakour. The sound is even fuller with the trombone and another back up singer.

Listen brother, you should start snooping around Kelvin Damrell a little. If you haven't already, maybe you have. He is the latest lead man for The SteelDrivers bluegrass band. Definitely an adequate replacement for Chris Stapleton. And he is a Kentucky boy just like Chris and myself LOL. I love music I grew up with it in my whole family, my whole family plays music. Even to this day I've got people in my family that can take the country music world by storm compared to what we're listening to right now LOL. Most people don't even realize that Kentucky has some of the best mix ed country soul r&b blues singers that have ever existed.

Great reaction guys! The only guy that I'd compare to Derek with regard to guitar chops, being humble and embracing the idea of collaboration is probably Warren Haynes. How about something from him or from Gov't Mule? Some of their studio versions are fairly short and not so 'jammy'. How about 'Mule' off of their debut album? ruclips.net/video/ig7Jh3tAxcA/видео.html.
