The shows on the Lovesexy tour were divided into two acts. “Bob George” was the second to last song in the first act which was comprised of darker, and more sexually explicit songs. The final song of the first act is a more spiritual song called “Anna Stesia” which ends with the lyrics “God is love, love is God, girls and boys live God above” and leads to the second act which is about love and light. His “death” at the end of “Bob George” led to a sort of redemption in the second act. Bob George is said to have been a representation of one of Prince’s former managers and a music critic. It was on the “Black Album” which ended up being shelved at the time. Prince put out “Lovesexy” instead. The “Black Album” did end up coming out many years later. Anyway, it’s one of Prince’s more interesting songs (which is saying a lot). Your reaction was really fun 💜💜💜 For a very different performance from the same concert, you should check out the piano medley. It’s just Prince and a piano, and it’s beautiful ruclips.net/video/pazGdwrvM6Y/видео.htmlsi=rB5rsp-uxXb5f6mh

So a bit of context is in order here😅. In 1987, Prince was receiving a bit of flack from his black audience. A lot of them complained that he was too far out of touch with black listeners and black taste in the 3 years after “Purple Rain”. Each year leading up to this saw a new album, sound, style, and vibe that was very avant-garde and not always easy to grasp. So in late 1987 Prince wrote “The Black Album” which was to clap back at his listeners who questioned his black sensibilities. The idea was to make this album the funkiest album he had ever made. One of the things that threatened Prince’s place at the top was the quickly rising Hip-Hop revolution. He had songs on the album like “Bob George” and “Dead On It” that parodied rappers and initially wrote rappers off as talentless, tone deaf, non-singers with little to no musical aptitude. Basically Prince was salty but soon grew to appreciate Hip-Hop. The album was set to be released and then he instructed Warner Bros. to pull every album from every retailer because he stated that the album came from a dark and evil place and should never have been made. Prince then decided to replace that album with something more spiritual and uplifting and in 1988 we got the “Lovesexy” album and tour and this song was used to sort of transition from the dark stuff to the newer uplifting music from the new album.
