+1 for Core Space! It's campaign rounds are simpler and more limited than this, but the missions themselves create all sorts of fun situations. I played a semi-competitive mission once where I had to make a deal with my "opponent" to drag my KOed Captain onto their own ship so he wouldn't risk getting caught by the Purge or the cops. Another crew member wound up in an emergency transporter accident that left his mind in a completely different body, meaning I had to swap his mini out for another but keep the same skills he had before.
I would like to see more. I love to see how the stories play out, and it's cool how fast the scenarios go (though I wonder if that throws off the setup-time-to-gameplay ratio!). However, I wouldn't mind seeing some of the rolling on charts & tables. It seems like some of the fun of the game comes from that experience.
Hi Andrew! Thanks so much for watching and you've got it, about 1/2 of the game is all about rolling on the charts and creating the scenarios etc. I got you on doing another vid and showing some of that!
@@OneStopCoopShop I REALLY ENJOYED this play-through, Colin. The game system itself is fantastic (I have the game, have skim read it, but have yet to play it) & you ALWAYS inject so much infectious enthusiasm into your play-throughs & clearly explain what you are doing (which is a HUGE help for those of us who are learning a new game…). You also add a lot of very much appreciated, genial humour into every episode, sometimes by design & sometimes by virtue of your forgetful errors, (which you very commendably own up to & also manage to augment with even more humour). 😃👍 I can’t adequately communicate to you, just HOW VERY MUCH I enjoy & appreciate this Channel… If ever I want to investigate or learn a new game or set of rules, yours is THE GO-TO CHANNEL for that & always gives me a really good overview of anything that I might be considering purchasing, as well as providing very entertaining videos of games I’m already familiar with & would like to watch played… PLEASE DO CONTINUE with “5 Parsecs from Home.” It’s a BRILLIANTLY conceived & implements Solo Space Adventure system & you already demonstrated in this video, what an excellent imagination & story telling ability you have, in the way that you crafted the very plausible & clever background stories for each of your crew members… You also carried those narratives through into the gameplay, lending credibility & consistency to some of the crew members’ in-game decisions & actions. That degree of imagination & storytelling immersion is EXACTLY what 5 Parsecs is all about… encouraging the player to REALLY CARE about their crew & engage with the game’s opportunities to create a cohesive & persistent narrative, that links every single mission (& the intervening events) together, into an unfolding adventure that goes WAY beyond the isolated & totally disconnected tabletop encounters afforded by most Skirmish Game Rulesets… Best Wishes & Kind Regards ~ LOUIS
@@the5thmusketeer215 WOW that was awesome! Can't thank you enough for your wonderfully kind comments and hope you continue to enjoy the channel! Good luck on your own adventure!!
I'm so glad that you found this game, Colin. I love to play it myself. It's really cool how the random rolls at setup create a story as you play. I'd love to see another couple of turns if you are up for it. Having my favorite gameplay channel playing one of my favorite games is the tops.
John! So glad you enjoy this one too. I agree you let the dice create the situation and then you get to feel the story it's awesome... thanks for watching!!
I would LOVE to see more of this! Unlike most other campaign games, you could play a full 20-mission campaign of this game and never spoil a single plot point for anyone, since it's all procedural. I really dig the Battle Systems terrain, too. Every time I see it used, it makes me want to get another kit just to pop it out and play with the pieces.
This is a great fast solo game. All you need are figures, terrain, rules, and dice. The most difficult parts of the game are pre and post-battle, but its fun because youre creating your own story while doing it. Love you used two colors of dice for determining who goes fast or slow. Its easy to forget if someone activates fast or slow. Panic fire is a little hidden gem in the game. When I created my crew, I had enough firearms for two per crewmember. Panic fire with a multi-shot weapon can be devastating.
Totally best part of the game is how you can really do it any way you want and use your own stuff for it. Gotta love that panic for when you are in a pickle!
@@OneStopCoopShop or...panic fire when youre not and just like the added firepower. I agree on the figures and stuff. I have 40k, Warzone, Heroscape, Star Wars, Heroclix, and some figures I cant remember in my games. Some of those picked up in game stores in junk boxes for $1 each.
I've had this for about four years now, the PDF version, I'll have invest in the book as it is a really excellent sandbox miniatures gaming system. I was actually looking for the old Traveller Ruleset when I stumbled across this. Never looked back. 👍. Nice job Colin.
Coming back to this video to say thanks for how well you explained everything. I watched it a long time ago, and ended up buying the book. Now I'm even doing my own batreps! It's interesting to see how you used the indoors terrain to make e game feel different from many of te oter battle reports I always come across Nice work!
Great game. Need more. As a bonus, if you end a scenario and hold the field, which you did, and one of your crew dies. You get to add a Story Point (see page 67 heading “A Bitter Day” ).

Very nice! You keep making the videos, I'll keep adding them to the Five Parsecs from Home playlist! Have you looked at the other Nordic Weasel Games offerings? Five Leagues from the Borderlands is the fantasy flavour and is set to come out with a 3rd edition from Modiphius. It'll be all fancied up with art and a phenomenal amount of gameplay even compared to Five Parsecs. Weasel-Tech is also noteworthy as an anime style mecha game with a procedural social system that creates some amazing dynamics between the pilots and the command staff of your squad.

Great play through of a very fun game, but I do have to point out that you had a mistake on your reaction roll at 16:52, Maria could not use the 2 you rolled as her reaction on her stat line was a one, in order to go in the quick phase the reaction rolled has to be equal to or lower then the reaction number on the character stat line (page 113), so Kat, Croby or your bot should have been chosen to go
