- Filmed on 2C47 Preston - Barrow-in-Furness. You could hear 37401 anywhere in the station before it even started! I've never been behind anything like it. Terrific! Turn it up very loud and please enjoy!
Here another great thrash from 2022. English Electric Heaven!!

Magic ! I remember about 1978 being in an oil depot right next to the Newcastle to Carlisle line when 45 iron ore tipplers pulled by 2 class 37s stopped at the signals right next to me . The signal cleared and the driver gave it some welly, the noise and air vibration was almost frightening. Absolutely awesome. 37s rule
Brilliant story! We’ve got to get them in now while we can. This was my chance and it was superb!! So glad I did it. Great memories. P
AWESOME!!! What a totally trouser-bulging sound! 👍🏻
The sound of thunder on the rails, very satisfying to hear that performance, looks good too.🙂👊👍
Wonderful to see these still running in the 21st Century. I love the sound of the engine.
It was a great week up there experiencing them 👍👍👍
They are awesome & the rumble of their engines is divine 🇬🇧👏
It was a very good day!!
@@pauljones401 they are great to watch & cherish the memories 🙏
The sound of them in the south Wales valleys was awesome
That’s is the best quality video I’ve seen in a very long time 👍🏻 What a sound firm a super class 37 🤣
Thank you Stevie! I shake naturally as you can see at the start but I wedged myself between the bars ( yes they had 5 metal bars across each door window due to the potential of people sticking their heads out and flailing about! No joke ) and having driven a 37 for my 40th understood when we’d be off. iPhone 5 was what it was filmed on but I’ve you’ve got a good subject then who cares!! Lovely comments, really positive, so appreciated. All the best Paul
What a top man you are for filming this and im going to watch your mental health story - very brave and inspirational.
Thank you very much. You never expect to do a film on mental health but if anything can help then I should. All the very best Paul
My nan used to have a house near to a train station in North Wales and as a kid these trains used to scare me by the sheer sound and look of them. The start up noise, the aggressive look, the power. My favourite train class.
Once con a lifetime start!
My dad used to drive these in the 90s early 2000's. Chester to Holyhead or Birmingham. Went with him numerous times and loved every bit of it. Could hear them for miles away late at that when it was quieter. Class old diesels.
I’d have loved a ride to Holyhead it would have been amazing! Just seems naturally noisier than others!!
Nothing like a dirty diesel.
I drove these on that route too. Bet I know your Dad. Evvo.
*This is why we love trains.*
I’ll take a first coach windowhang any day behind one of thes
Always knew when a 37 was coming past the Crewe branch line near where I live. You could hear it before you could see it. Memories of my childhood. Still makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. Thanks Paul.
All the bashers basically were sat down Daz as they’d got the something like 0550 from Carlisle down. So I had a free window and chance as they were knackered!!! I only filmed it to show my brother. As you sent such a kind and generous message I’ll send the actual whole film it came from which was basically a visit film!! All the very best! Paul
Here it is in context. Paul
ruclips.net/video/_AUMkkdJNk0/видео.htmlfeature=shared
@pauljones401 thanks for this Paul.
@@daz4643 there’s some more 37 action! My brother was quite ill ( now better ) and I just wanted to cheer him up Daz.
Great video ! 👍
Fantastic thanks for posting 👍this noise brings back so many memories of preston station early 80s
That was Awesome Brilliant Footage 👏
Nowt better than a 37 giving it all the guns 😁👍
Watched the video several times now cos I just can't get enough of that beautiful 12CSVT noise!
Pure fluke in one way but grateful to be there! Never seen someone flooring it like that! Ps all the 37 fans were sat down so I took full advantage of no one being next to the window! All the best Paul
Great POV
Thanks 👍
37s Rock !❤❤❤
If only that clip lasted an hour. When Arriva ran the Northern franchise, they put on a York / Leeds to Carlisle 4 coach top and tail 37s as part of the timetable. I was lucky enough to be able to sample several journeys behind these glorious machines. Wonderful times.
@@Grid56 I had a great week up in the lakes with these too. Really happy to have done it.
Thats why i love 37s. Just HELLFIRE.
Paul Marley hope you get the chance to enjoy too!
I visited may times, had em loads on the 10.04 ex Preston. Good days.
WOW! absolutely fantastic video...lovely thrash from my beast 37! this video says it all :)
TrainsFanUk Hope it keeps running till next year. Thanks for joining! P
I'm sure we all love the shape of the Class 43 HST power cars. But I think the next best classic diesel locomotive is the Class 37 - those things don't like to hang about do they!
The 43s and their Mk3 coaches are an elegant design that has aged extremely well, the 37s have a menacing look and sound but are equally cool, they are both British icons of the railways.
Chalk and cheese my friend
Best 37 thrash video on the internet.
@@jameswise5650 All the bashers decided to sit this departure out which meant I got the window. They had been drinking since 5am mind! And this was 10.15!!
What a beast! I loov it! Thanks for sharing this with us.
Tim Mungenast Was a great day out. Thanks for watching!
I am french.
Oh my good, so beautiful noise… wonderful. 🍺 Guinness
Outstanding video
My lordz what a belter - if only I had been standing right where you were!
All the 37 fans were sat down behind me having come down on the something like 5.30an from Carlisle so gave it a miss!!!
2021 The class 37s sounds will live on with great video like this
It was a wonderful opportunity to remember the 37’s from when I was a boy. Just didn’t expect the driver to completely floor it!! All the best Paul
Amazing view! 👍🏻
Wow that is amazing video love the soundtrack 👍
In 1980 my wife and I were staying in a campsite near the station in Inverness. You could hear these beasties for 20 minutes before they arrived! We travelled to Fort William behind one. And back!
Brilliant experience I would say! This was the closest I got for a week up there. Superb fun and I loved the airbrakes!
37s are king when it comes to guteral exhaust note
Class 31s we’re alright too😉😀
They have Soot (clag), too.
@@Shelfandtabletoplayouts00gauge 31s have a very similar power unit to the 37s, though if you’re lucky enough to find one with the original brush power unit it’d sound a world of different!
God the sound of that beauty
37 on stock, along the coast, with thrash and clag, in the sun !! What a trip, doesn't get much better than that . 👍👍😎😎
It didn’t! Changed at Barrow for another one! 4 in 8 rail rover
Thats incredible!... straight into my faves :)
Thank you. Get yourself up there if you can. The 10.04 from Preston!
I remember these when i was a kid & was terrified when they passed even when stopping. Great vid though thanks. 👍
Ive Made A Video They are big pieces of kit when you’re young!!!
Paul Jones thats an understatement lol
Just Fantastic.
I remember sleeping in a tent on Roydon camping, virtually alongside the tracks. And by night they started to run freight trans with these engines...
born levensregt Aw it was brilliant to be took back to the 70’s for me with great memories of these engines! Think everyone be going to South Wales now to see them running from Cardiff! Thanks for your comment and watching!
You managed to sleep through that?
@@richardhebden5603 Not really. The waking up was the worst when I realized that again I had been dreaming to be a sleeper....
reminds me of happy days with 37s going through the West Highlands!
Must have been incredible to see that. I was so lucky to see this! Happy Christmas from English Electric!!! Paul
Used to hear these late nights in distance in cardiff, pulling coal to docks...good days, nights rather...brings back memories of childhood...thnx
russell morgan same here from holidays in north Wales. Was a great day out!
The acceleration on these beasts Is scary ive seen many of one flying around from 0 mph to 50+ mph in a few seconds they're just hell-fire 🔥 loco's 🤩😍🥰
I was hanging on! Great driving mind!!
Considering their age, and the fact they're diesel-electric, they have absolutely superb acceleration and pulling power! British engineering at its finest. Shame all modern trains are not built to last anymore; Built with cheap plastics and poor quality metal.
@BritishTrainspotting Definitely a pleasure to ride behind. I particularly enjoyed the air braking system. Really took me back
Superb😊
Terrific tractor action there. Superb.
Norbert Nedsworth Thank you! Was a brilliant day out!
SUPERB! - and little or no wind interference either. I don't think driver was QUITE on top notch throttle, but not far off!
the 37s have the best diesel sound ever :D
Watch in my channel videos which is have , you can feel the CHUGGS of diesel alcos from Indian Railway
@@eastdeltarailfansclub9322 i'm not interested in alco's
@X X 20's have also a great sound :)
Anything from the English Electric has a great sound .
37’s are my second favorite loco class of all time behind my No1 the 50’s ..
Oh yes cannot beat some Hoover Power 😊👍🏻
It's a good sound although I do prefer the HST Paxman Vallenta scream
Amazing over 50 years old and these class37s just keep going. Things were better build in those days, and the country was much better run.
Amen to that!
I agree. Our parents' fridge lasted 40 years, but you won't get even 10 out of a new one today.
Start with giving Boris the boot
GOOD OLD SYPHONS! GO BABY GO!
nice vid, that's me on platform talking to the driver !! my vid as your camera out of the front window !
Phil Berry I really like your films. Just found your film!! Was a great day. Just fun to be loco hauled in such amazing places! All the best Paul
awesome view !!
freighttrainsahpassing I got away with this!
What a MONSTER!!!
I have 37401 boxed as a model I used to love travelling on it
I never saw it after this. Then I’ve heard it’s been saved for preservation with LSL so I hope to see it out of crewe soon 👍
God damn the filming equipment is good!
I saw a class37 this week on the Colchester to Clacton line, I nearly crashed the van I was driving getting the window down so I could hear it!
That’s brilliant! Glad you’re ok though but we do love that sound!
Off with the brakes and straight on the noise lever
Brilliant
Rip Roaring Fantastic
I got very lucky and I’m still to find a driver that floored it that long on that service!!
Terrific
Glad to of been of assistance 💨
Can tell it’s you standing chatting by the loco. Remember you telling me the story about this particular departure....
@@davelewarne6818 There wasn't many decent 37s to drive but Mary held her own on this day. She seemed to have a small burst of energy when I opened the taps 🤣🙈
Hell fire
That was bloody fantastic. Subscribed! 😁
ChopperV Productions Thank you! Top day out!
Helfire! I love how you can see the reflection of the Clag
Simon Lewis it was something! Really glad you enjoyed it! I did!
Saw this loco on the WHL in the Autumn of 1985 when it came out of Crewe works after being fitted with ETH
Awesome. I watched the other video of the same pull up by Steve's Gaming and Transport Videos, and I could see your head sticking out :)
MultiMusic I was hanging out it was amazing! Thanks for watching
What a Syphon!! 🥰
She’s alive!!
Locomotive services in Crewe and hopefully back again soon!
Outrageous
Bloody awesome.......
He did not stop the driver! He just went for it. And all the 37 bashers were just quietly sat in the front coach so I didn’t have to wrestle anyone out of the way! P
Makes the heart skip a beat when you hear one of the beasties, wonder what their 0 - 60 time is?
This one certainly had a go!!
Yes that footage comes pretty high on the thrashometer this driver knew his engine and the road leaving Preston
I didn't know you could do an italian tune up on a loco! The load wasn't huge (200 tonnes?) but still skilfull driving to get it notched up so quickly,
Still had another loco on the end which stopped soon after which helped that day.
Growler, God's own loco...Long may it be so. Accept no substitute..
Here endeth the first lesson.
One word; Proper!
Immense power
1750HP :-)
@@LawnMowersThingsThatMakeNoise Impressive. Always loved the 37s.
The class 37 sounds louder than a cannon
Growlers at work 😊😊
Who needs "The ride of the Valkeries"? 😂
I love the smell of red diesel in the morning, it smells of victorEE.
The sound of a 185L turbodiesel at full chat. Noice.
Pleasure to have been there!!!
only recently am I coming to notice many, many trackside e-relays around GB there nowadays
Good lord that was massive
chanels Lewis it was an amazing trip for sure
Wow
They will be missed on this route.
They'll be missed everywhere they're not.
Lovely machines, at least many heritage railways are giving them homes.
When are they phasing them out on the network?
Pulling north from Platform 5 past Maudland Bank at St Walburges Church.
My Lordz!!!
He was driving!!!! Actually to clarify I wasn’t quite sure as there was that much smoke!! But quick story. Those trains on the Cumbrian coast were filled in the front coach by bashers. However for some reason they decided to sit this one out and well it’s about one fifth my RUclips channel!!! Paul
Great channel and video, i subscribe now !
FUKIN FABULOUS,
Thats some thrash. Music!
The driver let her know he was in charge that day.
Still not found any film that had that length of consistent acceleration.
Oh happy days 😎
Why I was so lucky to see it Bud! Too right!!!
When people say they want a Bloody Mary, that thrash isn't what they mean 37716.
very good
All the deltaic engines I've seen on youtube smoke a lot. Is this a feature or just bad maintenance?
Hot oil goes near the exhausters. It’s in the design. Wouldn’t be allowed now!
Full power from a standing start, and I would have been in front of the boss in my day as a driver!!
I got very lucky with that driver!!
Thrash of thrashes!
Belter that 401 never fails in giving a good thrash
Class 37 fan superb run and it's still running
Yeah was on 401 last week mate did a cracking job as always thrashing the coast
Class 37 fan Superb! Thanks for commenting and enjoy lots more 37 action! P
Paul Jones will do mate it's such a shame these are getting taken of the coast in may the 37s still do a solid job u got any more trips on them before they gone
Class 37 fan whoah you just made sure I do one before may. Thanks for heads up
wish England was England and proud again
I know exactly what you mean... I work in engineering, and its a shadow of the country it usee to be... the fastest diesel loco in the world HST... fastest jetliner in the world Concorde..... the Class 37.. now what have we got, a shitty mini that is not a Mini and owned by BMW . Sad.
@@paulshepherd1348 engineering and heavy industries were sold off in exchange for banking.
If you ask me- why was it either or, why did they not keep investing in the engineering too? Now we have little products to boast of . The class 37 it still working after 60years so products were decent at one time. All gone now
They were used in Scotland too
Massive.
Unexpected an understatement!!!
😊👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🌟
Sounds like a demented tractor!
We used to test them on 1500 ton coal trains up Stormy bank Port Talbot
That must have been incredible. 👍
@@pauljones401 On max power for 30 mins, been in the cab with three in multiple on the iron ore years ago . Fastest test run , light engine 100 mph between Cardiff and Newport in 1992 on nights. Me working on 37405 and driving it at Canton ruclips.net/video/jCztnjx77Q8/видео.htmlsi=ZyZAiNGqQaP5RzfQ
Had the vol up a tad below max for this vid( normaly reserved for "Motorhead" vids) will it chug..?
yes it will....Deltics no longer on the Port Talbot to Shotton run,so don't hear/see them across the road at Caergwrle bridge.....DB diesel electrics now.
Lemmys bass one of the few things louder!
Was that uses on a normal passenger service??
Yes for about 3 years I think. It was incredible
@@pauljones401 nice!! I know they are still used but i thought it was only freight and special trains!!
Probably a novice question so please excuse my ignorance but why when setting off do they 'pulse' the throttle, see. Various videos with them doing this,
Ryan Foreman I think I get what you’re saying. I drove one for my 40th and actually you have no control over that pulse. The engine just does it naturally. They aren’t feathering the throttle. It still moves forward but the engine does work on that cycle.
@@pauljones401 thank you for your reply, yeah I wasn't sure if it was something like that or a way of building up the boost, either way I always love to hear them, they were operating on the Norwich to Lowestoft line when I was holidaying in September. Could always tell it was these beasts over the newer replacement
it to stop wheelslip. A 37 deals with wheelslip by cutting fuel until the wheelslip stops then it reapplies power but if it slips again it will go through the cycle again. If the driver takes no action it will just carry on doing it
