I am getting pretty sick of people saying that one and two halves is equal to two. Of course it is! That's why you can walk through! But *the mob AI sees the half blocks as full blocks*, so they only see a one block gap in the middle, which is why they don't walk through.
NanoRex im not saying this to "annoy" you or anything. im not saying "you have bad computer" im sayin Can you put your video settings little lower? because would be easier to watch your video without lag that comes somepoints! thanks!
I returned to this video 6 years later to check the comments to see if the sign-carpet entrance was patched out. Saw nothing, so I tested it again in-game. I can’t believe it still works! Double props to you for finding such a long-lasting fix for large practical entrances!
There has been a common misconception about this. This door should be used to generally keep mobs outside of your base without restricting your access. If a mob gets pushed through, just kill it for goodness sake! And if there's a skeleton, just move out of range! This is just to make sure you don't find mobs *IN* your base!
i really like your designs but i have a tip for what you said about the spiders. use the 2 wide one then put hatch doors on sides then you can open them at all times or close them then the spiders cant jump through cuz it's less than 2 blocks wide
It's a lot worse in Australia. Also, a scientifically proven fact is that this is how far Australia is away from the sun: " . O " the dot is Australia and the O is the sun.
The tutorial wasn't clear enough, I ended up escorting 13 dwarves and a midget through mountains and forests while they did their best to get everyone killed, while a magic mushroom addict lectured me about a bad trip he had. And my voice is hoarse from shouting at them all.
I really like the horse stable application of this. I have been looking for a good way to keep horses in an enclosure without having to constantly destroy and rebuild the entrance. Skeletons can still shoot through, though, and creepers can destroy it.
Dude, this is Bloody brilliant! I always had to spend ages making sure that my buildings were mob proof with a ton of fences and doors but seriously man, this is gonna help me so much!! Thank you!
If it's not working, you're doing it wrong. I've tested it in snapshots up to 14w11b. EDIT: In Minecraft 1.8, you must have a *6 block deep* gap underneath the carpet for it to work. EDIT: I haven't tested this in 1.9 but I suspect that it doesn't work due to the mob AI updates.
as of 1.16.1 this works if you put a sign or pressure plate (anything mobs don't think can support their weight) in a 1 block deep hole with a carpet on top. mobs can push other mobs over the carpet though, so if you make it more than 1 block across they will be much less likely to push each other through the "door".
Blk380 I like to hook up a timed tripwire which activates lava. If mobs get pushed, it tends to take a few ticks for them to travel a whole block. If the tripwire is activated for more than, say, 10 ticks, it activates the lava and the mobs die
I love love LOVE your design! It's the only one that doesn't look butt ugly! I had no idea you could put carpets on fences and signs and stuff. That's so cool, thank you!
They must have updated this recently. Zombies and like mobs walk onto the signs with carpet on them now. It confuses their pathfinder a little, causing them to spin around, but they make it through into your base.
i think its worth noting that a) the carpet bridge has been used before and b) if the mobs happened to be pushed onto the carpet, they dont move because they think they are on a 1x1 block with a drop in all directions.. but, great video, super informative. Keep up the good work (:
How have I not heard of you? You're obviously a builder who knows what you're doing, even with redstone, but none of my friends have ever mentioned you! You have earned a sub my friend!
Why is nobody ever mentioning the Wooden Door AI Exploit? Is it really that unknown? When you place a door, go on the block you want to place it on, look sideways (so you have your back to one side and looking at the other side) and place the door. You will have to "close" it for the door to be closed, but the AIs will see it as "open", so they'll run into it but zombies won't try to break it because they register it as "open".
Amazing tip thank you ! And it works on 1.7.2 ! For those who have ISSUES with this: At the beginning I couldnt make it work, but it was because it was only 3 blocks deep. I dug more and it finally worked ! I don't know how many is required though. Thanks NanoRex !
I used the last idea for my horse stable and an awesome castle that I'm building and no mobs came through the doorway to the caste and the horse didn't get out of the stable. Thanks for the ideas. Keep the good work up.
Hey guys when building the sign/carpet trick, put occasional blocks that they can walk on to improve it overall. What it does is sometimes when the zombie(or any other mob) sometimes becomes stupid and walks over anyways, it makes it able to walk over the whole trick. But if you put a random block and the mob lands on it again then it gets stuck again, making it almost impossible for it to cross your little trick. :D
Tested them, they still work in 1.7.4 As for how I found your video, was directed from one of mumbo jumbo's videos (Supercharged 4x4 Vault Door [Opens in under a second!]) to be exact. These are some pretty good designs that I'll be using in my hardcore game.
Despite the flaws in the door, such as with spiders and skeletons, i still do like it, and i applaud your thinking. also, to those who whine about the skeletons, they have ALWAYS been a problem, if you have a door that the enderdragon can't get through, then show us, otherwise, shut your traps!
are you guessing or do you know? because obviously it's not a full block and I've already made this assumption (that the can't) but i wanted to know if anyone knows for sure or has tested it
Another good thing about these doors is that whatever version you are playing (if it is the Pocket or xBox and obviously the PC) you can still build it!
Expectedd RBLX I clearly said in the video that the gap is two blocks when added up, but is composed of a full block and two slabs. Nowhere did I say that 1/2 + 1 + 1/2 ≠ 2.
+Tom de Kler but if you put the door, like sideways or what, and you "open it" the zombie will see it open, and don't tries to break it, but can't go thru'.:)

i like the two half slab idea but the baby zombies definately still wreck my villagers. instead i used the carpet on top of the sign trick for the walk way through the door and its like magic! thank you nano!
You can make door with end rods or lightning rods. Only player can pass through the gap between those rods. The other mobs think those as full blocks through which they can't pass.
I've been using a series of catwalks from my village to a cave and to a enderman hunting ground. I have a few 3 block wide paths that I set up a 1 block carpet with two cactus on the sides, and It has saved me from creepers quite a bit.
Love this, I've tweaked it using lava underneath to not need a 6 block drop (needed to for cosmetic reasons, got it to 3 blocks -fence, lava, bottom block), and the ai still sees it as a fall they can't make
I actually use the same design as the Fence door for my Spider Cage! I use this to make playuers squeeze thorugh while the spider can't! (NOte if I put half slabs ontop! Nice job NanoRex!
instructions not clear enough, killed ender dragon with a massive army of magical charged creepers riding flying pigs and then proceeded to take over the universe while half asleep
I challenge you to make a Player-Proof Door that's always open for Mobs.
Just put 1 space between two blocks so spiders can go through but players can't
Hugo Aloha Instead, make it Justin Beiber-proof.

HAHA LOL FOR A MOB PARTY :,D !!!!!

in my horse stable i put carpet on the carpet and my horses got out
Mikk kaasik Commas are a nice thing to use.
Mikk kaasik Actually the mob AI does not see signs as a block that they can walk on.
Mikk kaasik no, no they don't before you call other people "noobs*", you should test things your self
I love the carpet one! Nice job!
If it's not working, you're doing it wrong. I've tested it in snapshots up to 14w11b.

Okay...
will it work on the xbox edition?
Maureen Sikora no lol noob
NanoRex you seem like quite an arrogant person from your comments
Carpets don't work. The zombies go on, then start running in circles, slowly getting closer XD
dude those were some really cool ideas
mobs also see sugarcane as a solid block, making it so they can't shoot you or walk though it, or even see you there.
thx
Is David Tennant your profile picture? nice :) i love Doctor Who =)
Annee Clark yep :p Tennant was the best doctor!
ikr?

Capaldi incomiiiiiing !
-This DOES work for ONE zombie.
-If there is a GROUP of Zombies, they push each other across the carpet.
Lets be honest though how often do you let a group follow you to your house?
I went and see if they can get past, but the moment they go on the carpet, their rotting brains go offline XD
Keep it up man!
No way 9 years ago and NO REPLIES??? I’ll fix that
as of 1.16.1 this works if you put a sign or pressure plate (anything mobs don't think can support their weight) in a 1 block deep hole with a carpet on top. mobs can push other mobs over the carpet though, so if you make it more than 1 block across they will be much less likely to push each other through the "door".
My horses have no problem with just strolling off cliffs...
Diggin the stable idea.
I have just confirmed that this is in fact working in 1.7, so don't worry!
What if mobs stack up and push other mobs through the doors? does that happen?
Awesome video definetly using the 3rd one
Blk380
yes it does
Blk380 I like to hook up a timed tripwire which activates lava. If mobs get pushed, it tends to take a few ticks for them to travel a whole block. If the tripwire is activated for more than, say, 10 ticks, it activates the lava and the mobs die
i have one quick question how do you make that avatar it is so cool
I love love LOVE your design! It's the only one that doesn't look butt ugly! I had no idea you could put carpets on fences and signs and stuff. That's so cool, thank you!

then minecraft steve can play with him self lol
+Zenith Gaming (Elixir) You just blew my mind
+EvilNecroid You made my dirty mind tingle ^-^
+hendrik visch Dirty mind tingles...is that like a pervy form of ASMR?
Your design isn't so much a door as it is a mob inhibitor... which is very useful!
This just came up in my home page in 2022! Miss these Minecraft days
1:56 "It's a hole that you can go through pretty easily"
2:38 "It's hard to walk through sometimes"
make up your mind man lol
i actually love your carpet method, thanks :D and AMAZING outro music, keep it up
They must have updated this recently. Zombies and like mobs walk onto the signs with carpet on them now. It confuses their pathfinder a little, causing them to spin around, but they make it through into your base.
make a hole 4 squares deep to solve the issue :)
Thanks for these awesome designs NanoRex!
i think its worth noting that a) the carpet bridge has been used before and b) if the mobs happened to be pushed onto the carpet, they dont move because they think they are on a 1x1 block with a drop in all directions.. but, great video, super informative. Keep up the good work (:
Although, i think that you may just be the original creator of this carpet bridge, that comment was to all the people doubting its usage (:
How have I not heard of you? You're obviously a builder who knows what you're doing, even with redstone, but none of my friends have ever mentioned you! You have earned a sub my friend!

One year later and I still wonder why you wouldn't use an iron door.
Dr Linden Why would you want a boring iron door when you can have awesome carpet floors?!
Sam Hem why would you use an awesome carpet when you can use a boring iron door?!
Dr Linden Touche. It seems we are at an impasse. Truce?
Sam Hem ok lol
Dr Linden because if you properly listen to the video its meant to be a way to easily and quite openly enter the house
Brilliant, Sir! I will most definitely use your design on my next build that involves a bridge.
Why is nobody ever mentioning the Wooden Door AI Exploit? Is it really that unknown?
When you place a door, go on the block you want to place it on, look sideways (so you have your back to one side and looking at the other side) and place the door.

I tot dey still break it
Wow, so that's how no mob enters my magical themed house!
Amazing tip thank you ! And it works on 1.7.2 ! For those who have ISSUES with this: At the beginning I couldnt make it work, but it was because it was only 3 blocks deep. I dug more and it finally worked ! I don't know how many is required though. Thanks NanoRex !

YOU SHALL NOT PASS!
These are AMAZING NanoRex! So simple yet keeps the mobs out! Thank you for this! :D
It doesn't seem to work anymore.. in snapshot 15w41b atleast. They pass right trough the carpet
I used the last idea for my horse stable and an awesome castle that I'm building and no mobs came through the doorway to the caste and the horse didn't get out of the stable. Thanks for the ideas. Keep the good work up.
I think I'll just stick with a simple door. That keeps the mobs out just fine.
The horse stable is pretty awesome, great application
INTELLIGENT QUESTION: What happens when you spawn a Zombie on a floating carpet held by a sign. And will that Zombie be hostile to you?
1 block + 2 half blocks = 2 blocks. Did you even know that 2 half blocks can make a full block? GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT!
wait... zombies... can make BABIES?! why did i not know of this?!
the babies are faster too
that sucks
***** ... i must see this... can you make a zombie farm?
***** I believe you can (Crouch)+Click the Zombie Egg to create babies (same goes for other mobs w/ baby versions) IIRC.
they have a random chance to spawn just like spiderjockeys do...only a small percentage though IIRC but still LOL
Hey guys when building the sign/carpet trick, put occasional blocks that they can walk on to improve it overall. What it does is sometimes when the zombie(or any other mob) sometimes becomes stupid and walks over anyways, it makes it able to walk over the whole trick. Can someone please tell me if this is broken in 1.7 or not?? I've heard it is but I don't have time to test it.
What screen recorder do you use?
Tested them, they still work in 1.7.4
As for how I found your video, was directed from one of mumbo jumbo's videos (Supercharged 4x4 Vault Door [Opens in under a second!]) to be exact. These are some pretty good designs that I'll be using in my hardcore game.
wtf? it takes 1min to test it, almost as long as writing this comment o.0

Despite the flaws in the door, such as with spiders and skeletons, i still do like it, and i applaud your thinking. also, to those who whine about the skeletons, they have ALWAYS been a problem, if you have a door that the enderdragon can't get through, then show us, otherwise, shut your traps!
Can mobs spawn on the carpet suspended on signs?
are you guessing or do you know? because obviously it's not a full block and I've already made this assumption (that the can't) but i wanted to know if anyone knows for sure or has tested it
cool, thanks man.
And if you light the area properly then it doesn't matter anyway.
DrAaronWeir Mobs physically cannot spawn on anything less than a full block, which is also a good reason to make your roofs out of slabs.
You just gotta sub. I tried your design in a mountain it's epic! Nice vid bro! Keep it goin!!
First vid I watch of you, subscribe!
Another good thing about these doors is that whatever version you are playing (if it is the Pocket or xBox and obviously the PC) you can still build it!

i wonder who will come complaining THE FENCE DOESN'T WORK thinking you use the same type of fence xD
holy crap, that's amazing!!!
what if a hoard pushes one and one get in?
Yeah, I've abused other people like that. Sometimes people AFK in their bases, and I draw a horde of enemies inside to kill them.
The one you made yourself is very creative!
aidan cowie it is creative
"it's not 2 blocks, it's 1 and 2 halves."
1/2+1/2=1 and 1+1=2 last time i checked
I think I'm going to start deleting these comments soon. You people need to get informed before commenting.
the gap is 2 blocks, it's just offset by 1/2 a block. i'm perfectly informed.
Expectedd RBLX I clearly said in the video that the gap is two blocks when added up, but is composed of a full block and two slabs. Nowhere did I say that 1/2 + 1 + 1/2 ≠ 2.
lol how many times have you had this exact argument
Expectedd RBLX Tons, and I'm getting pretty sick of it
These are some pretty cool ideas, especially the carpet one. Thanks for sharing!
How about crafting a door?
Creative m8 not survival. But I think you can do it in survival
TheMasterkREEPz OFC u can do it in survival
ye, but the wooden door will break.... but, ye, you could make it in survival
***** No one said "wooden".
+Tom de Kler but if you put the door, like sideways or what, and you "open it" the zombie will see it open, and don't tries to break it, but can't go thru'.:)
And on todays YT reccomends....
Though I also watched it when it was first posted, quite a blast from the past, cant believe it's been ~6 years.

With the carpet one, do villagers also think of it as a pit?
This is amazing! Your design is a really clever exploit of the mob AI.
damn, this is actually pretty cool
I like the horse stable best. I mean COME ON!!! That's cool.
That's pretty neat! So simple, yet so effective!
the carpet method absolutely saved me
i like the two half slab idea but the baby zombies definately still wreck my villagers. instead i used the carpet on top of the sign trick for the walk way through the door and its like magic! thank you nano!
You can make door with end rods or lightning rods. Only player can pass through the gap between those rods. The other mobs think those as full blocks through which they can't pass.
love your designs bro keep it up your definatly my favourite!
This is a great idea Rex! I will be using this in my world for sure!

Nice job NanoRex!
Cool nice job explaining what they all do thanks for uploading this !
Thank you for fixing my bridges, i had always had problems with mobs chasing me over my bridge into my home
These designs will help me a lot!
Thank you so much :)
instructions not clear enough, killed ender dragon with a massive army of magical charged creepers riding flying pigs and then proceeded to take over the universe while half asleep
If enough zombies are trying to get in, they will eventually push each other past any of these designs.
Wow last one is really smart! Nice job!
With the last 2 models, the zombie is like: "WTF a flying villager!" xD
The villagers like YOU CANT GET ME NOW!!! HAHAHA 3:44
NanoRex I love your creation Its so Intellegent
Ironically the designs he didn't like are the only ones that can stop spiders XD
You have just earned yourself a subscriber
That's a really clever idea! Thanks for the vid! now I'm going to use that in my world
why is youtube recommending me this after 4 years
Really nice job dude, I use this very often
5:30 Lol "maybe they can" funny ;)
Awesome, I'm sick of having to open up my iron doors with the button. I like your design best.
