  • Had video comment that introverts should not be wedding photographers. Here is my response to that.

I feel that most good photographers are introverts. That's why I'm behind the camera instead of in front of it. I prefer that people see through my eyes, then their eyes looking at me.

    Hey PAUL.......no
I’m about as introverted as they get and my dream is to be a wedding photographer/videographer or a creator in some sense and it’s taken me to 38 to realise this because I’m an introvert and I’ve had PAUL’s telling me all my life that I should just work hard at the job I have and things will get better, but you make your own success, I’m on that road now and i WILL succeed

I’m an introvert who’s been a professional photography for 20 years. I’ve done hundreds of weddings but i do them with my wife who’s an extrovert. Thank god!!! I’m the technical one and she’s great with people so our partnership works perfectly. Sometimes she helps me with the wedding and then goes home during the reception and I’m left to fend for myself. I struggle during that time by myself but I always seem to get thru it.

Taylor, as a high-functioning autistic and socially anxious person can I just say thank you for this video in particular. Videos like this take guts. I am just starting my adventure into professional photography after being a very enthusiastic hobbyist for a long time. One of the major hurdles I am REALLY struggling to get over is the big step from being out alone taking landscape and nature/wildlife photography and the occasional candids at family events, to learning to pose people for portraiture and eventually stepping into events and weddings; mainly just getting past being terrified of actually dealing with people. I think a lot of us photographers end up behind the camera because we'd rather be there than in front of it, and a lot of us get stuck when we have to step out from behind it to work with the people we're putting in front of it. I am blessed to have a family who have pushed me for a while to try and make money off my photography, and so it's just been my own ego that's been holding me back.
I wouldn't have it any other way though. Put a camera in my hands and give me something or someone to point it at and I am a different person to the one I am without it. I like me better when I have a camera in my hands :) It's just a step by step process to work on that person to get better everytime! I really appreciate this video.

Huge introvert here. I feel like Paul, although he's apparently been in the industry for a while, still doesn't really understand it. I regularly get comments from clients after weddings saying "We are So happy to have had you! You were a rock of calm in the storm of our day! At my friend/sister's wedding the photographer was always pushing, and it was stressful and annoying." We don't all need to be the same person, and do things the same way. There are many, many ways of getting this job done.

Taylor, I just stumbled across your channel and this was my first time seeing a video from you. I wanted to say how much I appreciate you posting something like this and opening up because it can be so difficult.
There are so many people that can relate to this and some of the things you mentioned are really helpful to keep in mind.
    Thanks and enjoy your weekend!

Great video. I am an introverted photographer also. I feel that at least some introverted people, who work in the arts or creative industry or as writers are often good observers of the people and world around them. They naturally don't need to be in the center of attention all the time. Thus, they are maybe better listeners, better observers, better storytellers of the things, which happen around them. There are surely also extroverted people, who have good observation skills and can turn that into something creative. But I view it actually a good thing, that i was able to use shyness and turn it into a creative observant form of creative work, which others can enjoy. So i agree with your point of view, that introverted people can be great photographers or artists. Specially since anybody can start his own you tube channel now and become better with creating things, self taught, learning by doing and learning from other creative you tubers and Instagramers.

As an introvert myself, this video resonates very well. A lot of RUclipsrs appear to be extroverts, which would give the impression that they dominate the photography market and its better suited to them. I too believe that there are far more introverts in the business, but of course, due to that very nature, it is less likely to hear from them... which is why your video is so relevant. Excellent video!

I appreciate you talking about how long it took you to turn photography into a full time career. I'm wrapping up my 4th year and I've been a bit down on myself. Even though things have all in all really picked up, especially during 2020 of all years, I thought I'd have this thing a little bit more figured out right now. Earlier this year I had even decided that I'd give it one more year before I threw in the towel. This video helped to change my mind to focus more on enjoying the journey. Much appreciated.

Dude! Thank you for posting this. I think being an introverted photographer makes you work at getting the images you want sometimes and pushes you toward the extroverted side at times, but you are able to capture those special moments by being a fly on the wall too. There were many times I found myself being like, “that’s exactly me” when you were talking.

This video resonated with me so much! I went to school for photography and always wanted to do weddings, but pushed it aside because of my perfectionist personality followed with being an introvert. It’s been 6 years since I’ve graduated and I am now getting back into taking photos. I’m so OVER thinking that I can’t be a great photographer and letting others success make me think I could never be as great as them. Working hard to get my business up and running by the time my temp position in the corporate world is over come October! 🙌🏼

Fuji XT4 for video review - great colour. Really glitchy autofocus, and exposure bumps. (Sorry about that) I'm on month 2 and still haven't figured out optimal settings. I'll be trading it in for an R6 when they're available. That said, the XT4 is an awesome system, and if I was photography only, I'd probably be on an XT3. For video, the autofocus is hard, and the pre-amp for audio is absolutely terrible. (I have to use a standalone recorder for videos like this)
Maybe I'll make this into a video someday.

You have a voice and you inspire me every day with your videos! I feel like I know you. I literally talk to my family about you and Lindsay all the time, like you're my friends. That probably sounds weird! Your content is like no bullshit, here I am, this is what you get and I have a ton of knowledge to put in your skull. Honestly, I think being introverted helps because you're probably less likely to get distracted by what other people think. I know whenever I get into a group of camera people, two hours goes by and we've discussed camera specs and wasted a ton of time and gotten completely off topic. So gross. Also, some people on RUclips are selling themselves more than they are selling their work or knowledge, etc. Not everybody has that kind of personality. A person who can literally talk about anything and light up the room. But, you are absolutely selling 100x more knowledge than anybody else I watch. And you ARE selling your personality. It's working for me. I haven't watched this whole video yet, but if you needed convincing, I'm your guy. PS: I'm not introverted.
