      Hmmmmm instead of paying attention to the subject of the video “what is Shinto?” You instead focused on or were distracted by the music. Interesting, since the subject of the video is not the music.

    Thank you so much for sharing this.
    As a UK pagan animist Druid, I am reminded of the extraordinary similarities between my own path and the Shinto way.
    As a dear friend from the Dakota nation in the US would say, Mitakuye Owasin - we are all related.

    Imagine a Jazz Bar and their are Jazz bands sitting together taking turns playing music. While they are waiting their turn, they are enjoying listening to each other. They all share one thing, their love for music. Their is no sense of competition or despise for each other. And this process continues after each turn. Reverence is there in that Jazz Bar. "Reverence is having the right amount of respect, awe, and shame" -Paul Woodruff.

    @younguy1979 The early Japanese miko was an important figure who associated with the ruling class. "In addition to her ritual performances of ecstatic trance", writes Kuly (2003:199), "she performed a variety of religious and political functions." For example, the Heian statesman Fujiwara no Kaneie consulted with Kamo Shrine miko before he made important decisions. (Found this in Wikipedia.)

    It wasn't really a question, it was more of a statement.
    And what I was reffering with "Shinto is making more sense" is that they don't have so called "facts" it's all myths and legends of old tales that no one really belives... unless your really young or extremely old... or was actully there (if that was possible).

    nice video. Greetings and respect from a European polytheist, who follows the native Slavic religion. I think that polytheist ethnic religions are the best ones and I hold respect for Japanese that they are faithful to their own. Slava (Glory) to your and my Gods and Goddesses!! PS. do Shintoists in any way cooperate with polytheists from other cultures? It would be an interesting experience to met some of you...

    @theend1245 In Japan Buddhism and Shinto coexist. My Japanese friend said at some points they can even seemingly mix into one. Buddhism is more of a theology then a religion. It spread through out all of asia. While in modern times when china conquers a land (being the corrupt nation it is) it forces the people to become buddhist but originally I dont think it forced buddhism over Japan

    I was raised as a Christian but I have to say that when you look at the state of the world, it seems most of anything 'Abrahamic' (though it's brought people together) has hideously reversed our evolution. I think it's the serenity and humility of eastern spirituality that draws us westerners your way and makes us smile. Lets hope some day the shells of fundamentalism will fall away and we become the benevolent essence that is common to all spiritual traditions.

    That is the difference between living in a Christ like way and just knowing the teachings. Similarly you be well versed in any religious text but if you lead a life where you harm so many beings and don't want to cultivate your own compassion you tend to be a Christian, Buddhist, Muslim, etc... in name only. I seen people who don't identify with a religion live such a life of reverence for nature and animals.

    You can never undo something you have learned, it is in someway a part of you. If it wasn't for growing up with Christianity and experienced other significant events in your life, you probably wouldn't have had the unique way of thinking you are experiencing right now. I am NOT saying that Christianity should take all the credit, I believe our wills merit it all, so long it contributes to a universal harmony. Together, we are understanding this harmony.

    The good thing about Shitoism is in its simplicity. There is no concept of good and evil bullshit, no Satan, no holy bible, no absolute GOD who loves to preach me. It just tells one thing. You are a part of the nature and the nature itself is the GOD.

    I think Shinto honours the nature spirits that are present where you are. So ni Florida there will be other spirits than in Japan. If you see a tree you can honour the spirit of the tree, or you could honour the spirit of a nearby lake for example from a Shinto understanding (I think that means you should live in harmony with nature surrounding you).
    You could mix this with doing Ki-training as well to balance the energies in your Hara/Tan Den.

    If preserving love and life were the one thing to share amongst all religions, their wouldn't be any stupid people criticizing on other religions and making the ones they represent look bad. Bear in mind, its people, not the religion at fault. People use religion, not the other way around. Thus reverence is something to be learned first, or better yet, practiced first.

  • @bodhimian

    In this video you say 'Buddhism believes nature is bad.' Most Buddhist traditions i know view nature as basically good and that the sufferings of birth, old age, and death are real. That everything that happens is 'natural' because it happens out of karma. We are not separate from nature but already part of it. If anything is bad it's our attachments and not-knowings that keep us doing things that hurt ourself and others. Arigatou

    the word "God" is not the correct translation for 神
    but the correct word is "Deity" because deity is to define one of many

    Gods = 神々
    Deity = 神

    Women can become a Guji (high priest) in Shinto. And the highest God in the pantheon is Amaterasu OoMikami, Goddess of the Sun. The highest religious official other than Heika Tennou is a Priestess related to the King of Japan. Shinto has no holy books, and there are no rules for laypersons other than to live in Kanagara, not to be wasteful, and not to insult the many Kami. There is no difference if you are male or female, the rules are for everybody equally.

    To answer the question about "Shinto making more sense" is that their religion does not have as many "dumb traditions" as many others. But ofc the religion itself and not what the ppl said to controll others (like Christianity did during the medieval ages).
    All they want u to do (today) is to visit the shrine every new year and donate some coins and maby buy a fortune note or 2. And if u want to get married, do it in their temple. It is a litle weirdish, but less than most others.
