Some boxes that you really need to order from USPS are the Regional Rate boxes. They come in 4 sizes; there are 2 different "Region A" boxes and 2 different "Region B" boxes. These do not show up as an option until after the buyer pays and you go to ship the item. The price of these packages go by distance rather than weight and they can save you lots of money on shipping, especially on items that ship within a few states from your location. I just found out about these boxes recently and now I can't be without them!
Chihuahuaization Amelie don't know if you found your answer, but do a search on the USPS site for regional rate boxes, you can do a price comparison between the priority and the regional rate to see which is cheaper. You may even have better luck doing a Google search for the regional rates box rates. You can only order them on line and sometimes the post office workers aren't familiar with the pricing structure for these boxes.
Selecting your packaging, shipping carrier, and service rate are like paying taxes. You have to calculate everything out many ways before you lock it in. So many ever-changing tricks to learn and forget.
Hey I can save you even waaaaay more money!! Check out the regional rate boxes. Must order them on line. Box A ships at the 2lb rate even if you put 15lbs in it. Box B ships at the 4lb rate (up to 20lbs)!!!!! Ignore the word "regional". You can use these boxes to ship anywhere in the US.
Thanks for the tips! I just ordered some of every box, and envelope on their site (except express.) I ordered 25 of each when I could, otherwise 10 of each. Didn't cost a cent...gonna cost them to ship it to me though. Better them, than me. You can also get a roll of free fragile, and priority stickers. They screw us enough, surprised they don't charge shipping! Be safe man.
Happy Bird I am having an issue figuring out to ship them. I just ordered them.. I clicked on enter weight , priority mail it shows choose your own which I always use my own. Wondering if we can just use the Priority mail cube box. Sometimes it's hard for me to find small boxes to pack my small cups and glasses.
@@uchibauki2515 you can. Clothes usually go first class (under 16 oz). If over then, you can use the flat rate envelope. Search YT for flat rate envelope hack or trick.
The priority boxes are for priority shipping 1-3 days. The flat rate boxes ship priority shipping too. The plain priority boxes are just another way of telling the workers how the box is shipping
I was looking for a way to ship my dreamcatchers as they are quite fragile with the items that are on them as well as the feathers. I am going to bust down boxes to make them the right size and send first class as that is gonna be much cheaper for those out of country. If yall didn't know yet.. as of now 3-25-19... they no longer give you free priority tape :-(
I need some advice. I have to ship about a 50lb box of clothing to my son in London. Using the USPS, I know it's going to cost me a bundle. The last time I did this my son had to pay duty tax once it arrived in London. Was it the way I listed the items or does everyone have to pay a duty tax? Do you have any helpful hints about shipping overseas?
Yes, Priority boxes need the priority USPS postage. It can be purchased from at the post office or online at USPS.com. The boxes need the priority postage or you could encounter problems getting your box to destination.
Go ahead and check, today I stopped at two off shoot post offices (they are contract official post offices one is located in my bank and one next to a distribution post office) any way both had EVERY box , envelope and padded supplies and served freely. I took a few of each. And the great thing about those contract locations I experienced was they had boxes preformed on display with flat rates posted on them. Take a picture of the display so next time you have an item you can refer to the flat rate prices and know your items best method before listing. ; )
If you're using the Priority flat rate box, regional rates don't apply. To get regional rates you must use a Priority Mail Regional Rate Box A,B or C. Ebay provides a regional rate chart on their shipping. When you post an item for sale on Ebay, then under US Shipping Select, Calculate: cost varies by buyer location, there is a regional chart to give you some idea how much shipping will be to various locations. When an item for sale with this option, Calculate: cost varies by buyer location, click the calculator icon next to the item posted and you will find the regional rate chart. You must use a Priority Mail Regional Rate Box to get regional rates from usps.
I only use Priority Mail Regional Rate Boxes A,B,and C. Unless you are shipping something very heavy across the USA, I see no need for the Priority Mail Flat Rate. Remember, Priority Flat Rate ships with one rate around $13.00 for a medium box. Priority Mail Regional Rate calculates weight by location and this can save you dollars. There is no reason to pay a flat rate if you're shipping to a nearby location. I hope this helps.
Yes, my experience has been that I was able to pick up a few at a time every time I drop off packages. I suggest you try all post offices in your area. Including the contract locations. (usually smaller, located in or near postal distribution facilities with no public counter.)
I have a huge question that I hope someone can answer. I really like the medium flat rate boxes becuase of there size but can I use it and not pay the flat rate due to something in the box being extremely light. Like a backpack.
Super helpful, I was trying to understand why I couldnt find the small flat rate square box, now it makes sense, because its under priority.
The Priority Mail 7x7x6 box is not flat rate.
Totally helps. Glad this video is still up in 2021. Couldn't remember the size of the mug/hat box. Super helpful.

+Shanon Thatcher Doesn't the price increase with greater distance? Mailing zone 1/2 to zone 8/9 will be more expensive than using a flat rate box.
Why would you ignore the word "regional"?
THIS LITERALLY JUST SAVED MY LIFE 😂 *in 2020*

Had no idea how to make it lol thanks

Who knew! Thanks!
How would you get dinged for putting a coffee mug in a flat rate envelope?
Thanks! It helps 😊
USPS...if it fits, it ships. You can turn that flat rate envelope into a box shape and ship big items.
Mojo702 can I send clothes inside the envelope? Box is too big!

Why is the cube or show box by weight and not flat rate? I thought that is what priority mail boxes are for? Thanks for your time :) (NEWBIE here)

Simple... if the box doesn't say "flat rate", it isn't flat rate.
Any box that's not a flat rate box can be used for priority mail cubic

How long did the boxes take to get there?
when you have the usps priority box , do you have to use a usps made shipping label

I just took a Priority Box to the PO & was told it was ok just to write in the addresses.
If you mean the Usps sticker label to write the address, no you can write it right on the box. :)
