Haven't watched a review in awhile but my initial thoughts on being a reviewer was to be like you. Watching this I still feel that way. You just get how to talk about an experience and not just a hit it and quit it approach to covering games. I appreciate that, don't stop being you.
Backed this today as I know my gaming taste is similar to yours. Quite frankly, this was one of your best reviews imho. I didn’t want it to finish 😂 . Seeing you so enthused about a new game and ip is really encouraging and I’m looking forward to giving this a go towards the end of the year . Thanks very much for taking the effort and time to make this👍
I have had this on pre-order at Team Covenant and patiently waiting for the rest of the KS fulfillment to finish. I'm a huge Marvel Champions fan, I enjoy LOTR:LCG, but not big on horror for AH:LCG. This looks like the kind of theme I would want over Arkham Horror. I still would love to see a Stormlight Archives or Cosmere reskin of these co-op LCGs.
This looks like a more involved version of lands of galzyr, which we have been playing a week straight every night for two hours. (One month of game time) the difference being ‘cards making paths’ ’ over story telling and choices from the app, even though there are lots of cards in galzyr as well. . The narrative in galzyr is great and it’s more of relaxing game and can be absolutely hilarious as you share your adventures in a two player game. We never play games more than once or twice before packing them away so to play the same game every night is a first in 25 years. Rangers looks like it might be similar. Or course, the animals and cuteness of galzyr makes it more appealing for people who love animals. Absolute hit with my wife. Hopefully earthborn Rangers will be back in stock again at my store at some point.
Hadn't heard of this before - it looks amazing! As a massive fan of Miyazaki and the FFG LCGs, this is so far up my street. Definitely going to pick this up - thanks for reviewing it, and bringing it to my attention!
Just watching this review as I finish organizing my copy. Can't wait to dive in and explore this game! Everything you said is basically why I got so initially exciting for the Gamefound campaign originally.
Breaking this out tonight with the group. We've played AHLCG since its release and obviously enjoy it a lot, but I am ready for something a little different. Im very glad to hear that so many people are finding it to be a winner. Go go Earthborne Rangers!
I skipped around to just get a feel for what you thought about this game, and now I know I need to watch the whole review. (will listen to it tomorrow at work). You are knocking it out of the park with your reviews and I appreciate your channel so much. I preordered this a few weeks ago from Team Covenant with a few of the add-ons and am eagerly awaiting it!
I’m still looking into this game but your review among a few others I’ve watched gives a much better overview. One of the comments I’ve read that has stuck with me is that this game doesn’t punishes you for exploring. Which is a refreshing play experience.
Thanks for the excellent review. Ive been very interested in this game but I was having a hard time understanding if it was for me (despite absolutely loving arkham horror tcg and enjoying marvel champions). I really think my wife and I will enjoy it now and will seek it out in their upcoming reprint.
I'm only about 1.5 days in (an extended 1.5 days as I was able to manage fatigue pretty well). But your review is absolutely spot on. I love the world, the mechanisms, the way it plays. Although I think the Arkham Horror LCG is a good game, the setting and flow just didn't quite work for me. Earthborne Rangers is apparently l absolutely what I'm looking for in a card game. It just feels good. It's nice not having deadly threats in every corner. I can't wait to see what else they have in store for the EBR world.
Thank you for the review! I really appreciate your thorough explanation and enthusiasm. I received my copy and am looking forward to playing it. The theme is what sold me over Arkham Horror LCG. Like you say, this is a world I would like to inhabit.
Solo was just one character. I did try it once multi handed. It was fine. Just too much juggling for the effort when (for me) a single character was already satisfying.
The corner "cups" in the box are designed to be inserted into the divider from beneath so they add rigidity to the divider. You've got them inserted in a kind of an odd way.
@@DriveThruReview I suppose that's fair. Having to have the box on the table during the game is a little obnoxious. I keep it on a side table next to me.
The WEI (World Engine Intelligence) is really well done in EBR. It's one of the reasons I love this game and I'm definitely not a deck construction fan! 😅
the narrative and gamplay enabled by these mechanics sounds like what hendrick was trying to achieve with games like barbarian prince and star viking, but with 40 years of innovation and refinement. the only real disappointments imo are the unwillingness to give up the inevitably mediocre storybook and the visual aesthetics. good sandbox games are rare, its nice to have options besides mage knight and pax renaissance
Thank you for this very good review, But my only question now is what about replayability? If it is a story campaign even with the free open world do you think it would offer replayability?
I think so. I've been playing it even more since the review. Just played some more last night with a friend. I'm sure eventually it will run it's course, but I'm almost ~40 plays in right now.
1. Is it worth to buy is one already owns extended set of Arkham card game? 2. What is the foot print of this game in solo mode (comparing to LOTR or AH card games)?
I prefer this type of games, than Oathsword or Gloomhaven. For me I like more the visual appealing of a card than miniature or standees also, cards are easier to store and transport.
I also think this looks amazing! I have no experience with LCGs, but this looks appealing. Thanks again for an awesome review! Is this coming to retail?
I'm not 100% sure on that. I do know you can order it from their online store directly (and there will be a Gamefound project coming... in the near-ish future).
Saw D:I - Uprising on your table in the intro... got my copy recently and am very interested in your thoughts! (Assuming that's a video in the near future 🙂 )
@@DriveThruReview 😄 I must also add--more on topic for this video--how you wonderfully articulated your final thoughts on this game. You spoke compellingly about the feeling it nurtures, its narrative and thematic quality, and how taken you were with the experience. Well done! I'll have to keep an eye on the subsequent gamefound campaign. One of the many reasons yours is among my favorite boardgame channels. 💙
game looks cool 🏂! as usually your reviews very very informative and useful! One question? This game have modified difficulty level and if is not is challenge enough for experience player? i don't wanna walk 🚶 in the park i need real adventure! thank you
It does have a modification with the weather system... Rougher weather makes the game harder. Some games I'm more worried about the weather than the "monster" in front of me :)
Yes, but "kind of". I explained it a bit throughout.. It won't have a bunch of small monthly releases, but larger expansions spread out from each other.
This colorful post apocalypse with the future tech, it really gives me horizon zero Dawn vibes. I didn’t care for how story telling happened in the Arkham lcg or with the constant drip of content. I’ll be giving this a try

Dang. Thanks Jeremy. I appreciate that.

Just got Earthborne Rangers in from the kickstarter today. Really looking forward to playing it.
Thanks for the in-depth review! I was searching RUclips for a proper review and yours just popped up. And I've been following you for years.

Ooh, a Cosmere version could be amazing! Especially if they were about one of the lesser known worlds, like Sel or Taldain.
The review I've been waiting for! Thank you so much!

Was looking to pull the trigger on this and your review now has me looking for more ammo!
Thank you Joel 🙂
Oh wow, I hadn’t paid attention to this one, but now I am intrigued! Another great review video, Joel.
This is so good to hear! I have had a good feeling about this game for a long time and pre-ordered it.
I am a huge fan of all 3 of the Fantasy Flight LCGs. After watching your review, this is a must have for me.
Which three?
Thanks for the well thought out review !
I really enjoy the look of this game. Can't think of another game with a similar look
Thanks for the review. I just got my KS copy. It’s been one of my most anticipated games since the campaign.
Just did the All-in pledge on gamefound. Thanks Joel, your review sold my wife on it lololol
Great. Hope you all enjoy it!
Hell yeah brother. So hyped for this one. Great review as always.
Appreciate it!

Ya... I did that way to pull them out of the box with the set of cards in them.

1. Is it worth to buy is one already owns extended set of Arkham card game?

Not sure how to answer #1. Footprint is on par with any of those LCG games.

@@browe Thank you kindly. I appreciate that.
have the developers said what's next for earthborne rangers?
Gamefound project is supposed to be up and running soon. Not sure on the dates.
This looks great, thank you!
Just ordered!
Thank you 40 plays is a lot for any game.
Spot on!

This game really gives me hunter x hunter vibes. Rangers and Hunters and magical creatures and exploration and having fun on the way
kind of Land and Galzyr meet lcg?
I think so.. I haven't played that one, but I'm (somewhat) aware of it.
is this an lcg?
Yes, but "kind of". I explained it a bit throughout.. It won't have a bunch of small monthly releases, but larger expansions spread out from each other.
