hi creeper xo
'i need to shop my own bookshelf... as I'm sure do you' OOF YOU CAUGHT ME
Odd request but could we have a bookshelf tour of your mum’s collection? I mean library with a ladder 😍😍 I would love to see that hahaha
I remember watching your 2018 bookshelf tour when it came out. Feels like yesterday. Time flies by fast!
I know right! The glow up from book pile to organised shelf has been reeeeeal
The romance of three kingdom!!! An absolute classic. It is so deep rooted in Chinese culture that there is no Chinese that do not know the name of this book. So many people uses references from this book without even having read it. It is definitely one of the most important book in Chinese culture. Highly recommend!
Happy to see the curly girl method has worked so well, your hair is popping girl!
Also totally with you on the fewer hardbacks. I only used to care about keeping my books pristine when I read way fewer books, the more I read the more my attitude just relaxed and now I'm bending them left and right, writing in them, just having a good time!
Thank you!! My hair was playing ball. I totally get you, books do be books, we wanna enjoy
you should *definitely* read perfume. It's absolutely outrageous and swift and bizarre and graphic and you'll probably never forget the experience of reading it. Read it 3 years ago and still think about it often. It's.... it's an experience.
sigh *slides it onto the physical tbr pile* tehe
Perfume is so fucked up but amazing
Emma, as a fellow bibliophile whose library now runs well over 10,000 books, I hope your collection keeps growing and growing!
Honestly the level of excitement when I finally got round to watching this video, my heart was THUMPING. Love your bookshelf tours Emma, honestly I just love listening to you showing off your library and your totally unmatched commentary on your faves❤ I'm already excited for next years😂
Yours are my faaaavourite bookshelf tour videos❤️
I love the covers of those Vintage editions of Nancy Mitford's biographies so much. I love curling up with them, it really helps to relieve the stress of these times for me. Thanks for the fab tour!
Incredible hair and style Emma. Learned a lot, very relaxing and always curious about what you'll do next. Thanx
Thank you for finding the time to film this Emma! :D
One of the best bookshelves I've ever seen. I'm so jealous.
I recently read Romantic Outlaws and I fell in love with it! I think you would really enjoy it as well so whenever you're in the mood for a biography, you should pick it up!
I’m happy u have oxford worlds classics, they’re my favourite and I feel barely anyone appreciates them
I am the same with my books. I don’t annotate, but I don’t take immaculate care of them because they’re just books. I always have a book with me, and there’s no telling what will happen. Sometimes it rains, sometimes I spill coffee, etc.
I'm currently reading A Journal Of The Plague Year by Daniel Defoe because you recommended it and I'm genuinely shocked by how easy to read it is?? I didn't expect it and now I'm looking forward to reading other novels by Defoe!
I love your literature taste so much! And please please read Perfume!!! You’ll love it!!!
My yearly rituals ^^ this is my version of therapy ^^
Whenever someone asks me why I write on my books I simply say "I want to leave pieces of me on these pages."
I am currently reading Zofloya by Charlotte Dacre, I keep thinking to myself you would absolutely devour this! REALLY recommend. Literally squealed when I saw this video in my notifications! : )
Yeesss please do an update on what you thought about Brianna Wiest's books! I've been so interested but haven't pulled the trigger to get them yet!
it's so funny seing so many french classic being your favorites.
I had to read a lot of them in school since I'm french : )
For romance of the three kingdoms, the amount of historical reference people use even nowadays in East Asian is equivalent to Iliad/odyssey. Because we are heavily influenced already as we grow up, the more we read this the more we enjoy it, numerous characters, the rise and fail of individuals, the kingdoms etc.
Honestly so psyched to read this
You will love La Rochefoucauld's Maxims!
This is something I've always been meaning to comment whenever you talk about Sappho in your videos, but I'd really recommend Anne Carson's translation of Sappho, 'If Not Winter'! It comes highly recommended by one of my professors whom I took a module on Sappho with. I haven't read the Penguin translation but from what my professor said, it's not as good as Carson's.
What I love about Carson's is how she retains the essence of Sappho's poetry whilst still making it absolutely beautiful to read in English. Would recommend if you ever wanted to read a different translation of a classic, which is something I try to do because you can always gain something new about the original work from doing so :)
ooooooo yes yes this is such a shout!!!! okay new take - multiple editions IF WE GOT MULTIPLE TRANSLATIONS TO WORK WITH OOOOO
@@sarcastic_fish We stan the character development 😂
I feel like we need a tour of your moms bookshelves too!
So many good reads!
When you said Roxane was your favorite, I literally thought "but what about Orlando and Giovanni's Room" 😅 glad I waited before accusing you for forget about Woolf and Baldwin.
When I watch book tubers I always feel like they’re so different to me and they always so like mild mannered and have such mild opinions on books and I always click off the video not knowing which books I should really read but with your videos your so much more like to the point and just talk about your favourite things and I love it so much and I organize my books the exact same way as you and I feel like I’ve around the other half of my soul in this video 😂
I'm so happy seeing foreign people reading the leopard and other typical italian books!
anch'io.
I’m looking forward to reading Last Night at the Telegraph Club. I am saving it for my Pride Month TBR.
Really enjoyed it, found it a super interesting story world
which pen do u use for annotations on books?
I recently ran into the issue of wanting beautiful copies of books but then not wanting to annotate them. It's a strange one and goes to the very heart of what a book is for. Horizontal and vertical books on shelf for me is a major no no but I feel for you when you run out of space. Not listened to the whole video as I gotta get the kids to school, will definitely come back as you have some interesting recommendations.
Love you shelf / video as always ! Major girl crushing !!
About to start crime and punishment too.. i have been digging about which translation is best - any reason why you didn’t choose the Oxford edition (since you said those are your usual favs editions) with Slater instead of Vintage (who use P &L) ?
Only reason is that most of my Russian lit is in vintage classics, so keeping them grouped like that
I've to keep all books by an author together, otherwise I cannot find what I own of which author. I keep my "not read" separately. Other than that just keep fiction and non-fiction separately as much as I could.
The tour 💯
The Name Of The Rose movie is a really good one!
Yes, but the book is even better...🙂
Also if u haven’t read les liaisons dangeruese, u should, it’s my favourite classic of all time
where can you purchase those red vintage classics??
Have you read the brothers karamazov?
Just found your channel and enjoying it so much ❤ have you ever read D.H. Lawrence The Rainbow might be a good fit for you
1: “The Final Theory: Rethinking Our Scientific Legacy “, Mark McCutcheon. 2: “The Unique and Its Property “, Max Stirner, 1844/2017 Landstreicher translation. 3: “The Bible Came from Arabia “, Kamal Salibi plus his 3 other bible study books. 4: “No Treason: the Constitution of No Authority”, 1,2, and 6, Lysander Spooner.
Hey Emma🥺 have you heard of Milorad Pavić? He's a Serbian postmodernist author and I think you might like him if you liked Orlando. He's very cryptic, mystic and intuitive. I recommend "Landscape Painted with Tea"
Oh my god I found a booktuber that enjoys the classics and philosophical texts too. Oh my god!!!!! I'm ecstatic. So many booktubers are into fantasy and romance and I don't judge at all; reading is supposed to be enjoyable for everyone so if they like those books then awesome! But I don't, and just haven't found anyone that likes the books I do. This is a wonderful day.
You should read Maurice by EM Forster if you haven't already!
Please!!! Do a review of 101 essays and mountain is you 💗 I trust your opinion so much!
Wish my book shelf was as organised as yours, I have no repeating editions or authors.
Roxana is brilliant! Still can't decide if she 'changed' or remained the same though
You are so fast in speaking, fantastic eloquency.,and beautiful lady.❤
Could you pleaseeee do a video with members of your family?? I would love to hear their preferences and see how you all interact. Book loving families are always so fun!
Yasssss
every time i watch your videos my tbr gets significantly longer
I bought Italo Calvino because of you and your mother. Montaigne and de Sade are waiting until I have money for books again.
she understood the assignment
That odyssey joke made me laugh a lil too hard
Nice hair!
I have to read the aeneid for a class..please help me through it lol
OMG. Marquis de Sade.
Naughty... 😉
hi, what is this lipstick on you?
Its my fave!! NYX Lip Butter in Cannes 🍒🍒
Do you have any recommendations for female queer sci fi or fantasy . Mostly focusing on bi female characters .
C.L Clark is meant to have some good ones? I haven’t read them but maybe something to look into
On a Sun Beam by Tillie Walden (sci-fi graphic novel, also available as a free webcomic. no male characters at all!!)
An Absolutely Remarkable Thing by Hank Green (contemporary sci-fi duology with a bisexual woman mc)
The Long Way To a Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers (haven't read yet but only heard great things about this series)
Which Place of globe .
im a book historian and i'm w/ you, books need to be USED. i hate going through my own books and noticing i havent left annotations & marks in them.
I read Anna Karenina at 15 for some ungodly reason. 😅 BUT SO WORTH IT! The penguin edition is the best translation in my opinion or.. maybe I'm just being partial because the cover is beautiful.🤷♀️😂 🥰
Absolutely ADORE your shelves! I now have some great old/new titles. THANK YOUUU! 🥰
emma saying “i do *this*” to avoid calling herself a booktuber 👀
👀👀
Really? I loved both of Stendhal's major works.
Ur mum sounds amazing!
Why do people like Sade I have never read it. Please explain to me what about it is good.
He’s rooted in history and though he reads more like fragmentary rants to a contemporary reader. He has been influential and is an antecedents to a more developed form of thinking that began as a foetus in the mind with Sade
Buying books just for decorating hahaha. Spending money on books that i won't read, however I'll pretend I've read them. Stupidity in a shape 😛😉🤠
"I need to shop my own bookshelf. As I'm sure do you."
I'm in this comment and I don't like it.
You sound like Vanessa Hudgens in the princess switch
